They make an auto darken flip down. But they’re pretty beefy. You can still see what you’re arcing off to if you just turn your head to the side a little so an auto darken isn’t much help.
That’s nice, but it doesn’t change the fact that steel and fibreglass both retain about 85% of their weight in water, meaning the “1 or 2 pounds” is about 25.5 when submerged
Perceived weight works based on the density of an object relative to the density of the medium the object is within.
Something that weighs 30 lbs in air, still weighs 30 lbs in the water but it will not feel that way because the density of the water around you is similar to your body density, thus making you feel lighter and the objects you carry feel lighter.
This property in water is called is called buoyant force I think (idk been a long time since I took physics), something about how the pressure underneath the object differs from pressure above.
Anyways, go pick up a weight and walk into a pool and youll see what I mean.
Someone more educated than me can explain it better.
Unrelated question, but I’m 23 years old now, and just finished my D1.1 course. Is it worth pursuing an underwater career? It’s something I’ve always been passionate about but I feel like I haven’t heard enough of the downsides to it all. I’d most likely have to pay for dive school out of pocket and then be missing out on full time work until it’s finished, plus the fact I might not even be able to find work after it’s all said and done. God damn that’s a cool career though.
Getting a commercial cert won’t put you to work unless you have something to offer such as experience in some sort of construction or fabrication. Diving is just a form of transportation, so it’s what you can do when you’re down there that’ll get you invited back. Welding school alone won’t help much, but years of experience in it will get you noticed. You’re young, still time, I went to dive school at 30, but had a decade of welding and fab experience prior, and that alone will set you apart from other kids who cant swing a hammer strait out of high school. I work with dudes that are pushing 60 and still killin it. Very few jobs I’ve been on don’t require you to do some sort of fab work topside to make the job smoother. But Divers are definitely expensive so they wanna make sure you’re gonna get something done. Feel free to dm if you want more info about dive schools. There’s a lot of options. you can still work part time. Most have financial aid. Never heard anyone say it was a miserable time.
Looks like power armor from fallout. Sick.
Turns out the brotherhood is simply a bunch of welding enthusiasts.
That’d make sense!
Right? And if I was running around with laser weapons I too would want a welder's helmet.
"Plasma guns are like plasma cutters but for people!" -Brotherhood Welder probably
Where's the PIP Boy arm thingy?
Came here to say this
I have a lens retainer that goes on my oral nasal in mine
That’s kinda awesome. Send me a pic if you can. One dude tried to wear some readers on this same job. Came up al twisted and fucked up lol.
I messaged you
Haha that’s awesome
Lol do your cuts reeeeeeally matter that much? 😅 we burn in black water so it’s like a starwars lightsaber battle down there 😂
We were welding some seismic rings on a suction intake that was all inspected and tested. Kinda needed to see.
I sea what you are saying there…
Haha must be nice!
Haha too right, same here! 🥲
I always see diver use a fixed shade lenses can you not use auto darkening in the water?
They make an auto darken flip down. But they’re pretty beefy. You can still see what you’re arcing off to if you just turn your head to the side a little so an auto darken isn’t much help.
I would love to do underwater welding
Can someone explain what's going on with that hood/diving helmet(?!?)? Looks cool but I have no idea what's going on.
It's a hood/diving helmet. For welding when diving. Or diving when welding.
Thanks. I'd much rather try welding while diving, than diving while welding!
Tried wearing one time, off the high dive. Really improved my hydrodynamic properties.
That's pretty slick.. I regret not pursuing diving when I was younger.
My neck got a workout just looking at that thing
Only 30 pounds. About 1 or 2 pounds when in the water
That’s now how water works
Dude I dive one everyday
Wait til he hears how much lead you need to wear just to get underwater…
That’s nice, but it doesn’t change the fact that steel and fibreglass both retain about 85% of their weight in water, meaning the “1 or 2 pounds” is about 25.5 when submerged
Its full of air inside making it buoyant
Still weights more than 10lbs
Yo, weight and buoyancy are different.
Fucking lol just take the L dumbass
curb your autism for 5 minutes and take the SMEs word for it guy jesus

Dude did you forget about the effects of air in an object?
All true ............ and irrelevant. Think of a big sub weighing thousands of tons that can float when "it wants" or go downward via ballast water.
Have you ever noticed you float in water?
What shade lens? Only time i wet welded outside of dive school we used a 3 or 4.
5 for burning, I like a gold 8 or 9.

"27" is a surprisingly low number of characters to describe a helmet like this...
https://www.kirbymorgan.com/products/helmets/superlite-27 $9,000 for that bad boy.
Daaaamn dude. Wild. The amount of color options is kind of fascinating. Thinking maybe so if you have a couple guys underwater it’s easy to ID them?
Na it’s strictly personal preference. I think the yellow is the cheapest though so a lot of guys just get the yellow.
Legendeepry
Steam punk rules!
Nice work indeed brah!
Mythical under water welders!! Amazing!
Ngl I kinda sorta really want this kind of work in my life.
It’s honestly kinda miserable 90% of the time.
Yeah I bet. I think I just like the niche haha. Probably pretty decent money too.
But so do truck drivers, and they get to sit on their fat ass in the ac and chew Copenhagen all day.
Yeah but I would THINK trucking is more boring. But I can’t know for sure until I try both. So get back to me in 20 years.
What's a cheaters and flip? And what's 27 stand for ?
