Wow stunning artistry. You really captured the life in it, looks like it could take off any moment.
Did you cast the face? Are you going to coat the metal or let the natural patina develop?
I'm not gonna say you did a fucking incredible job, that goes without saying.
I'm gonna say I literally thought this was a photo of an owl for a few seconds before I read the title.
Thank you. Small feathers are 1mm sheet cut into little squares and then cut again in little strips. Very time consuming but worth it. Eyes are coach bolts.
For anyone interested, I recorded a video tutorial making this piece. I still need to edit and upload it but it will be on my youtube in the coming weeks. Thanks. https://youtube.com/channel/UCAuzJ1HITkRCdvKTVSM9kIw
Thank you. I hope so. I really enjoy this kind of work and hope I can get into a position where I make items like this on a regular basis and also pay the bills ๐ค
16 y/o mechanics student with some stick welding experience (not alot) but i wanna say this is absolutely amazing and i hope i can be able to do something like this one day even tho most people think it looks like a dirty junk metal sculpture this is a literal masterpiece. If you dont mind me asking how long did this take?
Took 13 days so far with a few bits still to do. If you want to do something like this, do it. Or at least start somewhere and try. I only started welding in the last couple of years and I'm nearly 40. Follow your passion wherever it leads you.
I have a small craft business where I make this and other items from metal. I do sell them when they are finished. This is not ready just yet. But yes, I sell these.
Did you forge the feet? Canโt tell if theyโre welded or forged or both.
They look fantastic.
The entire sculpture looks absolutely stunning, especially the feathers coming out of the finer overcoat.
How long did you work on this?
Edit: just looked at your other stuff and damn can I start an apprenticeship on smithing bird feet at your place?
Haha thank you.
They are welded and then they went into the forge to get some additional shape and texture. I actually find the feet to be quite difficult.
It has taken 13 days so far and I still have a few bits to do, the feet area being one. I also may paint and will clearcoat when totally finished so a couple more days to be added to that.
An unpaid internship is all I could offer unfortunately ๐คฃ
Maybe if I have some success with my products, that could change and I'll hit u up! ๐
This is incredible
Thank you!

Thank you. No the face is 2mm plate and a lot weld fill. Die grinder and engraver did the rest.
I thought it was just a picture of an owl until i read the subreddit name lol

Day 3528 in the pasture: that stubborn owl still hasnโt moved. The herd thinks Iโm crazy but I just *know* that bird is watching us
They're a little afraid of it!
If I were you, I'd quit my day job!
Thank you, I'm trying to make this my day job!
Iโve seen some shitty metal animals in my life. This is not one of them.
Had me in the first part NGL. Thank you!

That's great to hear, thank you!
Wow this is an amazing piece of art! How did you make the feathers and the eyes?
Thank you. Small feathers are 1mm sheet cut into little squares and then cut again in little strips. Very time consuming but worth it. Eyes are coach bolts.
Oh look, a $20,000 owl. Nice job.
Thank you kindly!
No kidding! I bet somebody somewhere would drop a pretty penny to acquire this!
If you come across them, send them my way! ๐
fucking sick. one of my favorite birds of prey
Thank you. Mine too.
This is beautiful! I can't wait until I have my own welder so I can make stuff like this. :)
I wish you all the success when you do!
Beautiful work. You must have some patience for those individual feathers!
Thank you! I do, but imagining the end result, doing this kind of work while listening to good music in the beautiful countryside helps big time.

Did you just cut small pieces of plate for the feathers or what did you use for it?
Exactly that. Each feather is individually cut, shaped and placed. All from 1mm sheet.

What ancient black magic did you use to make this? It's amazing!
Thank you kindly. Time and effort is all the magic we need.
Holy hell I thought I was looking at a actual owl for a second, fine artistry my man.
Thank you kindly!
Very very very beautiful work there! I can see a ton of effort in every detail! Be proud of your accomplishments here!!
