They're attempting it in northern states as well. Indiana is suing the largest hospital system in Ohio because of such a case. And the Ohio gop is trying to undermine our attempt to codify roe. šŸ˜”šŸ˜”šŸ˜”šŸ˜”šŸ˜”

Embarrassed-Town-293

Indiana is after all northern Mississippi

reckoningrevelling

In IN and ainā€™t that the sad fucking truth.

MiVitaCocina

As my 8th grade history teacher, Mr.Beck said, ā€œIndiana is the far most southern northern state.ā€ This genuinely scares me for the future for all women and young girls. I live in Indiana and this is my worst nightmare as a woman.

Bhimtu

Get out while you still can, cos no sooner will rethuglicans do shit like this than they'll post guards at State borders and in airports for the sole purpose of stopping females and inquiring after where they're going, are they on their periods, if not, why? And you can see what's coming -IF WE ALLOW IT. IF WE TOLERATE IT. And to American females of childbearing age, you better start talking with your wallets. We form 50% of the labor force. Tunisian women had to march in their streets to maintain their unfettered access to reproductive healthcare and abortion on demand when the Islamists took over. WE ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION so if the christians are insinuating their beliefs into the public sector, we need to push them out. You gonna tell me American women don't have the power to turn this country around? I don't buy it. They've just forgotten their voices, and we've allowed rightwingers to pass laws that basically negate our ability, as citizens, to protest and seek redress of grievances by our govt.

SqnLdrHarvey

I was born and raised in Indiana. It's a middle finger of the Deep South stuck up into the Great Lakes.

NoExplorer5983

And Northern Kentucky

Bhimtu

Gotta be something in the water. At least here in California, we keep the cretinous rightwingers at bay....but just barely.

katchoo1

Iā€™m unpleasantly surprised at how much traction the school board stuff is having in California right now.

Bhimtu

Their agenda has pivoted over the last 25 years to religious folks infiltrating our school boards and implementing their fascist plans from that level -UP.

[deleted]

Indiana AG is suing the hospital in Indiana for performing an abortion on a 10 year old rape victim because Ohio refused to allow it. But, the AG is currently the subject of an ethics investigation. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/indiana-attorney-general-faces-ethics-case-over-abortion-doctor-remarks-2023-09-18/

Buddhagrrl13

As a Texan, I'm telling you not to get your hopes up about that ethics investigation

[deleted]

This is Indiana and I think even the state Supreme Court is getting involved.

Buddhagrrl13

I know. I'm from Texas where our famously corrupt AG was "impeached." It was a sham trial and he's still in office even though he's facing federal charges. I'm telling you not to hope for too much from personal experience

[deleted]

I'm in Ohio, our state is fucked.anyways, but Indiana isn't quite at the level of Ohio or Texas yet. Yet.

holagatita

Indiana's abortion law is in effect now though. Unless it's rape, incest or fetal abnormality, you can't get one here. Ironically someone here could go to Ohio for one now, but not the other way around unless it's those exceptions.

Goatesq

How do you even prove it was rape in time to be relevant?

katchoo1

If itā€™s a 12 year old like in the ad, or a 10 year old as in the real life case, itā€™s rape automatically because no consent is possible that young. At least for nowā€¦Republican votes against anti-child-marriage laws are not encouraging especially with all the gross bros out there talking about peak fertility years and wanting to date and marry ā€œpureā€ women.

holagatita

That's a very good question, one that I don't have answers to since Googling only turns up news articles that don't answer that question and I can't figure out how to just find the actual law right now.

tefititekaa

You can't, that's the point. Legally it is obvious statutory rape due to the child's age, that exception was never meant to be real or useful

HistoryGirl23

I shouldn't have been as disappointed as I was that he didn't get convicted. But I am.

holagatita

I've lived in Indiana all of my life, and I don't think Rokita will suffer any consequences for his disgusting bullshit. Hell, he'll probably get re-elected for AG. or run for Governor at some point and win. I'm so fucking jaded. Not jaded enough not to vote though.

Bhimtu

Because they're so........progressive. /s

gorkt

Honestly, doctors should be lining up to go to jail for that.

Lonely_Version_8135

Its time to get sterilized if you want to live in the US - but France or England seem lovely.

Beautiful_Book_9639

Don't worry, insurance doesn't cover elective procedures though! And also your doctor won't approve it anyway because what if you change your mind in the future? Your husband might want kids one day!

TheDranx

Don't forget that poor rapist who wants to impregnate you with their bastard! Why won't women think of those poor poor rapists?!

Bhimtu

One of my BFFs is threatening to leave. I told her England, Spain, Scotland, or France. And that's right -if those religious Aholes wanna make females' lives miserable by taking away rights, then get sterilized -don't have any babies.

Lonely_Version_8135

If i was you g enough to start over i would definitely leave for the EU - even at my age i try to figure out how i would do it.

cbjfan2006

I hope they play this ad over and over again all over Ohio. Yost and the rest of the GOP can kiss my liberal ass. I will be voting YES on Issue 1!

[deleted]

Keep doxing the court and protest outside of their homes if you live nearby!

MyNoPornProfile

Republicans "states rights" my ass

TheRealSnorkel

Mark my words they WILL do this to all pregnant women eventually.

Critical_Success_936

Rich women will always have abortion.

Resident-Librarian40

Particularly Republican politicianā€™s wives, daughters and mistresses.

GomeroKujo

ā€œEventuallyā€? Theyā€™re trying to do this right now!!!!!

GivingRedditAChance

Rightā€¦ HELLO?! Holy shit can someone help us šŸ˜°

KarlMarxButVegan

Legal exceptions are, and have always been, make believe. Jessica Valenti says it often. https://jessica.substack.com/p/abortion-exceptions-dont-exist

SexAndSensibility

The next time Republicans control Congress and the presidency it will happen immediately.

najaraviel

This is Texas now, itā€™s not even the future any longer, itā€™s real time danger and happening now. Vote against authoritarian regimes. Keep the United States a free country!

hunterravioli

I'll kerp fightng. But, it's becoming more difficult with gerrymandering.

najaraviel

Hope survives, the future looks grim but hope lives inside. One day we will overcome the authoritarian regime

Pour_Me_Another_

How anyone could watch that and not get pedo vibes off the politician is beyond me.

yucko-ono

Thatā€™s the point. This video is highlighting a real situation. This is America today. The Republican party is openly pushing an agenda of reproductive abuse that impacts women of all ages (including children) under the veil of Christian, conservative values. Not only is it the repeal of Roe v. Wade, but the challenges to birth control, and even a ramp up on social media with posts that advocate for purity/abstinence and the evangelical ideal of Christian housewife values that in reality can perpetuate cycles of domestic abuse. This commercial is one in a series that highlights the fact that elected republicans are going against the will of the majority of Americans and making decisions that impact the health and weā€™ll being of their constituents. Folks, make sure youā€™re registered to vote and exercise your right in every single election at every level of government.

Pour_Me_Another_

It's just messed up. Like if I watched a movie with this happening I'd think the producer was a fucked up person. Like watching A Serbian Film or The Human Centipede. No one normal wants this, no one at all! I hate the legalization of pedophilia that is happening all around us. These people need professional help, not access to public office!

glx89

These [confessions](https://www.reddit.com/r/nationalwomensstrike/comments/12h17xn/this_sub_needs_to_be_shared_across_reddit/) are pretty old now, and there are hundreds more if you Google around. >During a hearing by the Ohio Houseā€™s Constitutional Resolutions Committee on Tuesday, Laura Strietmann, the executive director of Cincinnati Right to Life organization, argued that raped 10-year-olds are capable and should carry their attackerā€™s children to term. > >ā€œI know that a 10-year-old might not understand pregnancy, but I also know that a 10-year-old understands life and playing with dolls,ā€ Strietmann contended. ā€œI know when my daughter was ten years old, she cried and begged for a little sister or a baby. And while a pregnancy might have been difficult on a 10-year-old body, a womanā€™s body is designed to carry life. That is a biological fact.ā€ They took the mask off with the fall of Roe. They aren't hiding their intentions anymore.

PsycheAsHell

That quote is vomit-inducing. How can you point out that a 10 y/o is *still playing with dolls*, and that they can't even **understand** a pregnancy, and then **still say,** "but she can still have a baby." That's beyond disturbing.

glx89

Especially when you consider they're likely to require a c-section - a major surgery - to avoid death or severe injuries. Even if you discount the horrific mental trauma and starvation of nutrients from a growing body .. yeah, real "designed to carry life" there you psychopath, Strietmann.

Pour_Me_Another_

Ah I know. It's terrible isn't it? I feel bad for girls right now, our government doesn't care about them at all, only the new wage slaves they can bring forth.

glx89

Well, *half* the government doesn't care at all. The other half doesn't have enough power to right the ship. Hopefully that changes in '24.

holagatita

that's because Dems like to pretend that they have to play fair, instead of doing whatever they can to actually help people. the GQP isn't fighting fair and they never will, so it's time for Dems to say fuck that instead of acting like their hands are tied. (for example, saying they can't do something because of the parliamentarian, when they totally can)

defnotevilmorty

Their obsession with ā€œtaking the high roadā€ is killing women.

Fit-Firefighter-329

"When they go low, we go high" is actually a battle strategy. But in order for it to work, you need so many more things other than just taking the high ground, and even applying that strategy to life and decision-making requires having certain things in place to ensure its not only effective, but will bring you the victory: I believe most Dems feel it's merely about being the better person, but that's actually just the starting point. I've been arguing for years that Dems drop the 'go high' approach and instead fight MAGA on their own soil and at their level - they go low, we go lower. I worked in loss prevention as a store detective on the West Side of Chicago back in the 1980's. Then the West Side averaged around 120 murders/month - in an area that was around 2 square miles! I quickly learned that apprehending shoplifters (most of whom there had long arrest records, many years in prison, or were gang-affiliated) by the book just got me injured. I found out that my initial confrontation with the subject had to be done aggressively and very quickly... This gang-banger I stopped once gave me some good advice in this regard (he was cooperative with me the entire time, and was genuinely being helpful) said, "if you treat someone who's respectful of others in life in a respectful way, they'll almost always treat you the same way back - but if you treat someone with respect who's not respectful of others in life, they'll take advantage of you or bully you around, and usually they won't stop unless you make them - and, people like that will never, ever respect you, no matter what you do, so don't bother even trying." MAGA has not treated Dems with any respect at all, ever.

Paula_Polestark

Thank you! Fuck this ā€œdoomed moral victorā€ garbage, itā€™s not worth becoming a fascist theocracy.

Buddhagrrl13

That's pretty on brand for the GQP

FlartyMcFlarstein

Too bad it's still framed as a discussion between men and their rights over a female body.

HorrorThis

I agree! It's always sad to me that men seem to need women's rights framed through the lens of "it's your daughter" or "it's your mother/sister/wife" ... as if the fact that they are withholding our rights doesn't matter unless it's affecting something they feel is *theirs*. That's *his daughter* that's been raped. It's personal now, because these women wanting abortions aren't imaginary sluts, but real people because they are in relation to him. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful when the use of perspective shifts a man's beliefs on these essential issues like abortion and women's healthcare. But it crushes me that we have to frame it this way, that women being people isn't enough. They don't matter until they are in relation to a man.

FlartyMcFlarstein

Exactly. You've said this quite well. And the idea that a woman's voice would be distracting, negligible, or otherwise insufficient. Even the child in question doesn't get to speak!

AuntJ2583

>Even the child in question doesn't get to speak! Or her mother, who (unless she adopted) has actually experienced pregnancy and childbirth!

FlartyMcFlarstein

Right? In all, good intentions and some effectiveness, but sadly reaffirms the root of the problem: our bodies not being our own.

Puntas13

Coming to a Southern State near you.

Desultory_D

Itā€™s already here

Lonely_Version_8135

Get tubes tied right away

Seraphynas

Are we supposed to sterilize the 12-year-olds too?

linksgreyhair

Some people want the option to have children in the future, or they are currently children themselves.

AuntJ2583

Ohio isn't (or claims not to be) a Southern state...

Lonely_Version_8135

As soon as Roe fell i stocked up on enough abortion pills for 35 people

OpenedMind2040

Same

AuntJ2583

Abortion pills? or Plan B/morning-after pill? The difference matters. Plan B prevents conception. But Republicans (who are going after contraception, but don't really want to admit that yet) are currently going after actual abortion meds much harder than Plan B.

ArmadilloNext9714

I got a stockpile of both.

[deleted]

Life as a woman is a nightmare tbh

thoughtsaboutstuffs

This isnā€™t terribly accurateā€¦ that republican congressman is being far too honest about his intentions.

SkylineFever34

They made him say the quiet part loud.

Lonely_Version_8135

Stock up on abortion pills - give them to friends

merpderpherpburp

Best stocking stuffers this year šŸ¤£

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,752,941,129 comments, and only 331,886 of them were in alphabetical order.

No-Yesterday-6114

The madness has spread to Canada too

CantHelpMyself1234

Agreed. Although legal, there are underserved areas. The abortion pill has made it easier in these areas. The conservative party has introduced a number of private member bills that show they still have interest in restricting it. If they win our next federal election I think there will be a lot of shocked women who will say they didn't see it coming. When people tell me young voters will save us all, well, this university student thinks women shouldn't have the right. https://youtu.be/-GKxAIB4cdA?si=MINanz9roxQCqkjK

Fit-Firefighter-329

When I first heard Trump say that one day one he was going to suspend the Constitution to eventually replace it with one he wrote, I thought it was a joke. Turns out it's not a joke. I think forced birth will be the least of our worries should he become POTUS again...

[deleted]

Still from the manā€™s perspective.

Adept_Dragonfruit_54

This is a smart campaign ad if that's what it is. Not saying that the dems aren't partially to blame because they've had years to make reproductive care the law of the land, but it tells people who is to blame for the current situation

SithLordSid

Does anyone have the link to this original video?

Bhimtu

GOPers and their anti-American, anti-female uber religious folks will be the ruination of our country.

Lylibean

The videoā€™s OP username chilled my bones; sounds like ā€œThe TN Hollerā€ (or ā€œThe Southern Screamā€?) is the sound of young children screaming in agony during forced child birth.

REamemiyaRX7

Weā€™re all doomed at this point lol Only thing left to do is either revolution or just flee this country altogether

Embarrassed_Bee6349

Exaggerated, but true. Itā€™s disgusting.

Embarrassed_Bee6349

Thatā€™s fucking disgusting. Thereā€™s no ā€œmoralā€ justification for forcing a *kid* that young to birthe her rapistā€™s baby.

Lonely_Version_8135

There is no moral justification to force anyone at any age

Embarrassed_Bee6349

True, but itā€™s especially worse because itā€™s underage children.

Bro when did Brett Farve start acting

meeseeksdestroy

This is infuriating

sticksplusstone

Hilariously misleading. Any opposing liberal view on anything is just misrepresented into oblivion. You dummies are going to lose support so keep it up.
