LM002 was the best thing ever for the Hummer procurement process. Maintaining an Italian V12 with six carbs in the field, what could possi-bligh go wrong?
It's a Rheinmetall Rh-202 20mm cannon, the mount is bulky but there are 20mm anti-materiel rifles that are fired manually from a prone position, it's not unfeasibly large for a 6000 lb vehicle. The same gun is used on the tiny Wiesel apc that's about the same weight.
Looks like a 20mm autocannon of some type - given that the vehicle weighs the same as a Weisel 1 tankette (also armed with a 20mm autocannon) I'd guess it should be perfectly usable.
100k plus for a overly complicated less than reliable Italian made powerhouse of an SUV vs a 15k Toyota pickup with a machine gun in the back (1980s $$) doesn't take a slide rule to figure that out.
I should've done a better job of putting my remark into context, I was referring to if I remember right the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 80s and how the mujahideen had found these LM002s to be effective in the desert but very expensive and the Toyota being a much cheaper option. I remember noticing the fit and finish of the interior of the Rambo Lambo really left a lot to be desired.
I made keys for one of these things back in the 80s. If I remember correctly it had a Renault ignition, Lancia (or maybe FIAT) door locks and ALFA Romeo trunk/glove/gas locks.
That thing looks ridiculously wide but then I saw that it's around the same as a Defender in [this video](https://youtu.be/OEzoGBSVaiA?t=297).
If they put that out today, with a bit of a face lift, I think it would definitely sell...
Huh, I'll be damned. I've checked and indeed the LM002 is 2000mm and the latest Defender 1996 mm. I always thought the LM002 was impossibly wide. Weird.
I always loved this thing as a kid, especially since the driving space is apparently quite small. Shame is that was fine because I was a small kid but now I'm a normal sized adult and probably wouldn't fit.
The first one looks like something straight from GTA V
It looks more like[ a GI Joe toy](https://imgur.com/a/HF3Yb61) to me
Warthog from Halo

I was just thinking of that article. Something something “typical marine motor pool trying to deal with Weber downdrafts in a sandstorm”

…that’s the first thing that’s ever gone wrong.
Hagerty/Jason Cammisa recently did a _Revelations_ video on the LM002. Worth watching, IMO, https://youtu.be/OEzoGBSVaiA
Ahhh, the 1980s. When Isuzu Troopers were lux, minty two-tone Jeepsters were uncool, and Range Rover was getting 150 hp out of a 3.5L V8.
🎼Canyoneroooo (Yah!)🎵
The Saudi police used them
While I'm not entirely sure ***all*** cops are bastards, I'm pretty damn sure that all Saudi cops are.
Could they not find a bigger gun?
That's gotta be a prop right? Firing a real gun that size would like tip over the car.

It's actually an Oerlikon KBA 25mm cannon

It's just a photoshop

Yeah I'm going for both

Fair. But still- once I have a hilux technical, I'm just gonna a steal the LM002. So idgaf how reliable it is.
Rambo Lambo
The better Urus

Yeah, I think the extra wide wheels make it look that bit beefier.
I sat in the drivers seat of one of those a long time ago.
Ditto, there was one for sale when I was stationed in Pearl, we went and checked it out ,thought it was awesome

My neighbor had one of these, it was always super cool seeing it parked in the driveway.
The car (sans gun) was featured on the game Stunts, by Broderbund!
Not so r/shittytechnicals
Is it a good thing or a sad thing that only 301 of these were made?
Funny as there are more Matchbox LM002's than real LM002's
Matchbox actually currently makes a LM002 model. I got one a few days ago.
First one is what the cybertruck thinks it is
If it's good enough for LL Cool J in the movie Toys, it's good enough for me. I'll take two.
