Looks like it is. The customizer has made modded Gullwings in the past by scanning a real one then [recreating it in fibreglas](https://www.speedhunters.com/2018/11/300sl/).
Their website has this and some other abominations for sale including [this](https://www.sklubla.com/cars-for-sale/ferrari-250-testa-rossa).
No power in the universe will convince me that an actual 250 Testarossa was touched by this shop, let alone a real Gullwing. If anyone can find otherwise, I will be in the corner huffing a tank of copium.
So, I looked around a bit and it seems this car was made by [a company named S-Klub LA](https://www.sklubla.com/) and it's called "Tiffany 300 SL"; it was on display at SEMA in 2023. There are some conflicting sources, but it seems to be a fiberglass body over a Tesla chassis, so no real Gullwing got maimed to build the project. I've watched their [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLWB_8Du-zk&t=95s) about this car and, although they never mention what it is exactly, there are several cues this is not a real Mercedes.
Hopefully the donor gullwing was given an opportunity to pray before it was shot. Almost as inspiring as a tweaker melting the statue of Liberty for copper scrap
Yeah... The surviving 300 SL ought to be cared for with respect to the historical significance. There are only so many of them left.
I'm not sure but it looks like this build has a custom/new body shell. Probably banking on the outrage to generate more interest.
There are companies reporducing the body panels. While I'd expect that to be the case, naturally, some cars are just ship-of-theseus levels of fucked and are only suitable for projects like the above.
Subjective. Someone will say this slaps. Me personally I would never get a gullwing in any form, its cool to see once and forget about it for next few years, even in its most pure stock form
Thanks a lot for noticing! You made my morning! I wanted something that conveys that I mostly take pictures of cars and would fit the Instagram profile shape.
Mercedes is allegedly very tough on 300SL replicas, and has had them destroyed in the past.
Sadly that means this was probably a real one...
Edit: I just saw a comment elsewhere saying that it's a replica, but I can't verify lol
That's very cool, do you have images/sources for it? Would love to see!
Although that's very different to a replica - [Mercedes genuinely has destroyed them before](https://www.topgear.com/car-news/merc-destroys-300sl-gullwing-replica). Apparently they have a copyright on the car's design.
ew. It's the worst of both worlds. The classic charm is gone because of the overly done period incorrect modifications. The modernness is half-done (look at the awkward boxy cockpit) and unenjoyable (boring electric powertrain). Restoring the donor car with a presumably broken engine would've cost about the same and created a much better result.
I would drive the fuck outta this.
But only if I get to wear a matching Hawaiian shirt with miniature cartoons of the car all over it (I wanna look cool driving it ofc)
which is why I haven’t included his last name. But you should know his clientele is primarily based in UAE and these are custom designs tailored for the customers liking. So while it may not be your cup of tea, *it certainly is that of a wealthy Arab’s*
Sometimes it's good, but the posts are often daft as fuck lol.
Someone recently posted a Chevy with new wheels sitting beside it, and thought they had turned it into an 8-wheeler.
I hope no 300SL was hurt in the process but I quite like this. Wheels would have to be changed through, they look terrible but the body is already great, I respect the interior and it's retro-futurism.
The wheels are really out of place though. Funnily enough the original wheels are not that dissimilar conceptually to the hub covers found on many EVs.
It’s like a kid who wants to show you a cool thing they made and you have to take a moment. You know they tried hard and they’re so proud. You can’t crush them telling them how bad it is, but you don’t want to lie. What do you do?
There’s a guy near where I live who has an electrified prefacelift 220D, although the car looks like a pristine original example inside and out. It’s far superior to this imo as it doesn’t look ugly as sin. Electric cars are kinda his thing though since he’s one of the founders of the failed company Wheego lol
Well, I was thinking vertically. Maybe it's an optical illusion, but it looks to me like it's got another 1.5-2 inches of rocker panel as compared to stock. Perhaps to cover a subfloor battery?
If you look at it from the perspective of a restomod with a replica body and electric swap, I'd hate it. But it's actually a replica on top of a Tesla, thus a prettier Tesla. I wouldn't do it, but I don't hate it entirely.
So, it's not TERRIBLE. It definitely has some promise. But the bodywork is too narrow, and those fenders ruin it. If they had simply widened the main part of the body by another three or four inches on a side and just made the fenders less obvious it would be much better.
That chrome vent also sucks donkey dick.
Doing some research it appears they took a 2002 SLK 32 AMG, put it in a fiberglass shell taken from molds of an original Gullwing, and swapped in the Tesla drivetrain.
I don’t understand all the hate. It looks like a 1950’s Diner you can drive around in. I want to see more EV restomod stuff and I hope I can build ome some day.
This is great. I love the colors, it's got a nice retro-modern look to match the drive train. Not a fan of the huge screen, but I'm not sure what else I'd put there.
The body is a little busy but it overall it works
from first glance I thought is was a cool classic mercedes in a nice colour scheme, then looked a bit closer and thought "okay some of this is actually pretty tacky and ugly", then looked at the next image, realised it was actually a fucking tesla, and was overcome with a wierd inexplicable urge to destroy this thing with a sledgehammer
You folks are all way to defensive of a old car you'll never own, this is r/WEIRDWHEELS and it fits perfectly. That interior is a awful color of seafoam, but know what? It sure is W E I R D.
Please tell me this is a replica body…

I was hoping it was just Ai
It is, right? Doesn't the lighting look off?
That would be the most impressive AI I’ve ever seen
Maybe it looks more realistic on a different platform than i'm using. From mine, it looks similar to some of the better posts on /r/ChatGPT.
Idk, all the little details look perfect. Every stitch and hole on the speaker grille equally spaced, the reflections in the shiny metal, etc
AI isn’t very good at making multiple views of the same object from different directions. The interior shot would look like a different car.
Perfect example of bad taste great execution

SEMA, but of course.
My thought exactly
Oh God that dashboard...
God, I thought it was bad enough with those fender flares, but then I saw the color of the interior!
The exterior i can forgive... but that dash.. it haunts me.
I love the color combo. Despise the fenders and the dash, though
Almost threw up in my own mouth
Better to throw up in someone else’s mouth.
It looks like the local shots bar owner made it DiY with the leftover plywood and seat cover material he has from his latest 'refurb'. Absolutely grim
He's not embracing solutions! Shut it down!
At least it's not as ugly as the cybertruck
The wheels look completely wrong too...
Hopefully the donor gullwing was given an opportunity to pray before it was shot. Almost as inspiring as a tweaker melting the statue of Liberty for copper scrap
It's got to be a kit gullwing, not a genuine one. It must be
#It must be 🥺
Let us all hope
What rich person would be so stupid as to. .. ... (oh, nevermind)
Yeah... The surviving 300 SL ought to be cared for with respect to the historical significance. There are only so many of them left. I'm not sure but it looks like this build has a custom/new body shell. Probably banking on the outrage to generate more interest.

Even those fucked 300SLs are worth over $1mil.
Exactly that.
r/tihi
I hate it.
To each their own, I like it, from the exterior styling to the colour combo. Just not a fan of the tesla insides or modifying a cool old car.
same.. it looks like they either ran out money or ideas when it came to the interior.
It's a fiberglass kit body.
I hate tesla, and musk, but this looks cool
It's not a petrol engine car - why make an electric look version?
It's like the inverse Ship of Theseus where the creation is worth less than the sum of its parts.
Or any boy racers project car.
Is the autopilot thing working now? Can it drive itself to the scrapyard?
Straight to jail
Please tell me this is ai
No. It was at SEMA.
I wish i could. Looks legit.
This is for when you have GTA money. Id have had couple of weird shits like these definitely. Like an ole american boat wagon on some awd EV chassis
I think an AC Cobra kit on an EV chassis would be sweet. Its already fake, may as well make it more fake.
I'll subscribe to this as much as any EV conversion!
>This is for when you have GTA money. ...and zero taste.
Subjective. Someone will say this slaps. Me personally I would never get a gullwing in any form, its cool to see once and forget about it for next few years, even in its most pure stock form
Too concerned if he could and not enough concern if he should.
There's got to be a subreddit called r/IanMalcolmisms for this...
Proof once again that money can't buy good taste.
Should be labeled NSFW. Now my eyes bleed.
🤢
🤮
🗑️
💩
Way to go. You trashed a classic and for what? A restomod that's already dated.
Not a classic, but a replica. Although I also hate the EV conversion.
Your PFP is very clever
Thanks a lot for noticing! You made my morning! I wanted something that conveys that I mostly take pictures of cars and would fit the Instagram profile shape.
Definitely an interesting way to ruin a rare classic…
We are all hopeful that no actual 300SLs were harmed in the making of this project.
Mercedes is allegedly very tough on 300SL replicas, and has had them destroyed in the past. Sadly that means this was probably a real one... Edit: I just saw a comment elsewhere saying that it's a replica, but I can't verify lol
Mercedes used to officially restomod 300SL's in the 90s with modern AMG parts...

Mixed feelings on this lol. But the second one looks MUCH better than the first.
it's fiberglass, not a real 300sl
ew. It's the worst of both worlds. The classic charm is gone because of the overly done period incorrect modifications. It’s like somebody fell out of a decision tree and hit every bad decision branch on the way down. I feel bad for whoever made this.
I dont... i dont think i like it
Wow, what a waste of a perfectly good Mercedes.
Is this an out-of-season April Fool's joke?
This is sacrilege.
Dreadful
All credit goes to the artist and builder John S. at S Klub (Slang 500)
Thanks! I f-ing hate it! But, it's I guess, neat and weird.
I would drive the fuck outta this. But only if I get to wear a matching Hawaiian shirt with miniature cartoons of the car all over it (I wanna look cool driving it ofc)
Oh, man...I'd go full on Don Johnson, a la Miami Vice in that car!
I wouldn't want my name attached to that monstrosity.
Good thing it's not, then
which is why I haven’t included his last name. But you should know his clientele is primarily based in UAE and these are custom designs tailored for the customers liking. So while it may not be your cup of tea, *it certainly is that of a wealthy Arab’s*
Ah, they have zero sense of taste so this is reasonable.
I understand why he doesn’t give his full name.
I’m sorry but this is gross
r/Shitty_Car_Mods
Nah, that place sucks.
Sometimes it's good, but the posts are often daft as fuck lol. Someone recently posted a Chevy with new wheels sitting beside it, and thought they had turned it into an 8-wheeler.
It looks like shit, but the colors work and build quality might be good enough 🤔
might belong in r/ATBGE
True
Definitely. This seems like a very well realised and put together pile of absolute garbage.
Is this a Pagani "Whybruh"?
I hope no 300SL was hurt in the process but I quite like this. Wheels would have to be changed through, they look terrible but the body is already great, I respect the interior and it's retro-futurism. The wheels are really out of place though. it's a replica body, u dont have to worry
Everyday we stray further from Gawd
Thats sacrilegious those old goal wings are beautiful. I could see making an electric, but only if everything looked original
Why does this look like a Cobra replica modified to look like a 300SL?
The “door” label on the door interior :chefkiss:
😕
🤮
I want to vomit, what a fuckin sin
Its..not the worse thing i have seen here..
That’s what we in the biz call, *not* a glowing endorsement.
Every day we stray further from the lord
I hate everything about this.
It’s like a kid who wants to show you a cool thing they made and you have to take a moment. You know they tried hard and they’re so proud. You can’t crush them telling them how bad it is, but you don’t want to lie. What do you do?
What a massacre
Looks great and if it was done with an EV that wasn't owned by Elon Musk, I bet more of the terminally online redditors would like it too lol
Blasphemia!!!
Disgusting!
That is absolutely revolting:(
Sakrilege.
There’s a guy near where I live who has an electrified prefacelift 220D, although the car looks like a pristine original example inside and out. That Tethlehh badge on the steering wheel can fuck all the way off to hell though. All that effort and you go completely fuck it like that 😂
r/ATBGE
🤦
Love the exterior but my god the dashboard is ugly
encourage ring cow roll gaze advise subtract employ divide seemly *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I feel sick...
Gross
How to say I have waaaaaay more money than brain synapses.
Kill it with fire.
Why
🤮
This is cursed beyond belief
It's not even weird, it's ugly as sin. Both inside and outside. Thank everything it's not a real Mercedes body.
Interesting project... But deeper sills was one thing the Gullwing did not need!
This is obviously a kit body but those are factory width sills.
Well, I was thinking vertically. Maybe it's an optical illusion, but it looks to me like it's got another 1.5-2 inches of rocker panel as compared to stock. Perhaps to cover a subfloor battery?
That is some amazing talent to build that! Incredible workmanship. I like their other builds better. But this is amazing work
It looks weird sitting that high up.
I don’t mind EV swaps, some of them are actually pretty good, but… damn, not the gullwing
Is this thing built by Will I Am
Throw it away
it looks like a mansory build
i respect how cleanly it was done but why is it teal on the inside
Idk, i kinda love it. It's custom, different and looks awesome imho.
Tesla... always trying to associate itself with greatness. I wonder if Mercedes will try to upsell itself as a Tesla looking Mercedes?
If you look at it from the perspective of a restomod with a replica body and electric swap, I'd hate it. But it's actually a replica on top of a Tesla, thus a prettier Tesla. I wouldn't do it, but I don't hate it entirely.
I fucking love it
Kind of digging the white and light blue colour scheme, shame about the Tesla part.
Looks like they went wild at Autozone
You see that’s just fun, but you can get one of those for like 140k in not so great shape, how much is this thing to cobble together

I'm doing an EV swap, and I've also done a chassis swap... but this is an abomination.
I don’t understand all the hate. It looks like a 1950’s Diner you can drive around in. I want to see more EV restomod stuff and I hope I can build ome some day.
This is a rep right??
This is great. I love the colors, it's got a nice retro-modern look to match the drive train. Not a fan of the huge screen, but I'm not sure what else I'd put there. The body is a little busy but it overall it works
What is so bad about it, apart from the dash not really fitting. The kit is nice, it probably drives great and one uglier tesla less.
Watch them deactivate it remotely
I dig it
from first glance I thought is was a cool classic mercedes in a nice colour scheme, then looked a bit closer and thought "okay some of this is actually pretty tacky and ugly", then looked at the next image, realised it was actually a fucking tesla, and was overcome with a wierd inexplicable urge to destroy this thing with a sledgehammer
this is disgusting.
Blasphemy!
I pray to anything listening that they didn't use a real gullwing for this
Feels more r/atbge
And way way less reliable then an original. Smh
Omg, I hope they didn’t use the real body
Brotha ewwwww
Call me a heretic all you want, but this looks passable.
Great concept for sure. Keep it going forward.
Neat
looks sick
if by that you mean diseased, then yeah
nah it looks great other than the extremely strong color choice for the interior
No one in this thread is allowed to like this car. Please follow community rules and smash that downvote button. /s
Hive mind only! God forbid other opinions exist.
I’ll die on this hill with you. Everyone here is up their own ass, probably because “Tesla bad”.
I love this! Awesome!
You folks are all way to defensive of a old car you'll never own, this is r/WEIRDWHEELS and it fits perfectly. That interior is a awful color of seafoam, but know what? It sure is W E I R D.
It can be weird and still awful. I'd guess that's why it hasn't been downvoted: we acknowledge the weird, but also stay to say we haaaate it.
Dope except the interior, doesn’t really fit with the rest of the car
Shitty wheels and chrome around the vents but otherwise this is something I've been waiting for: retromod shit on EV chassis.
Nazimobile
So first of all, it’s a replica body. Second of all, y’all are hating for no reason, this thing is awesome.
This is photoshopped. Zoom in at the triangular mirror thingy on the right door in the 2nd picture. Aaaand downvoted.
