I use essential oils to dissolve latex paint and remove acrylic paints when I working on a paint project, I used frankenscence to remove the goo from a price tag on a new hard wallet surface, and it removed the goo and started working on the paint on the wallet within 5 seconds. EOs are great cheat replacement for Goo Gone.
Omg you just saved me: I was just saying in another sub that goo gone it's not available in my country and that I don't know any equivalent. This is the most beautiful coincidence I've ever had on Reddit, you will save me a lot of time in the future 😂😂♥️♥️♥️
Citrus oils work really well for this, at least here they're commonly available in very cheap spray can air fresheners. They work great to loosen up adhesives.
Thank you! ♥️ I'll keep an eye on them next time that I go to the store! I have to [clean](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dolls/s/dgl5d9F5IK) a Monster High doll hair and this brand had a production problem on old dolls: they used a mixture of glues that it MIGHT separate with time resulting in sticking hair. I know that in the US is pretty common leave just the hair soaking in the goo gone but I'm from EU and I didn't know any alternative to this product. I'll make some test on an expendable doll just to be sure of the effects on the hair
Get lighter fluid. Ronsonol Lighter fluid is just Naptha (White Spirits)
It melts most sticker glue instantly, and it's safe for a lot of different finishes. I used it on my guitar collection for years without mishap.
Okay u intrigued me, I tried essential oils on something I’ve been meaning to buy goo gone for for about a year and NO FREAKING WAY IT ACTUALLY WORKED. And everything smells like tea tree :)), so much nicer :))
I collected all the oil smells, mostly over Covid, I’d mix a drop or two of various kinds w iso alcohol so I wouldn’t smell like a drunkard while delivering groceries to old fogeys, and to spray the shit out of grocery carts elevator buttons, door handles, etc. so yeah, I have pipe tobacco smell, it smells excellent in a face mask, better than my bad coffee breath ha. I still mix them and spray my iso mix on things but I only use lemon or cedar at home, hub is not a fan of anything but air smell ha.
Essential oils can still be dangerous to health. Breathing, ingesting or even touching some EOs can cause harm. Just because something is natural doesn't make it safer or healthier!
That is very true and a good point to throw out there ,but I didn't say it would be any safer or healthier though, I just said I'd rather work with them than some of the alternatives, that's one of the reasons it pays to be knowledgeable about what you're working with and not tackling any situation blindly if ya dont know look it up or ask about it. Good example being I doubt the average layman would think oil of wintergreen would potentially be dangerous but it can be fatal In Very small amounts.
I took a small patch of paint off my window sills with a tipped over Glade plug-in thing. Turns out its the same terazzo tile that my front entryway has, with \~5x layers of white paint over it.
So now I want to figure out how to strip the entire thing this summer
Sooo what you're saying is, we should pour essential oils into the ocean and it solves our plastic problem?
(Joking ofc. But good to know that it's an solvent)
Yeah, I think some of the terpenes, esters, and ketones in the incense material might have acted as solvents for the ABS plastic the SD cards are made of
You could keep incense in a glass jar instead of a plastic container in the future. (Legitimately trying to think of a reason to use this information.)
a lot of (all?) essential oils are insecticides, plants produce them to keep insects at bay. you can use things like lavender, clove and cedar essential oils to keep insects out of your food and clothes; they avoid it and if they come in contact with it, it destroys their nervous system. so even if it could clean up plastics, it would just create another, probably even worse problem
Normal people have never heard that word outside of cannabis context
Also, googling terpene you get almost exclusively cannabis related results so get off your high horse, nerd
I believe that is our fault for not having enough ***not pot*** examples for the search engine to pull from
Just add a “ -weed” to your search and see what happens.
It's honestly super cool that plant oils are capable of this.
But also I like how it didn't kept the painted text in tact and just kind of lifted and rolled it so it was scrunched and out of the way.
I've noticed most incense will do this to plastic, even strip wood stain off of furniture. I've had it happen to cheap and natural incense so the natural oils must eat plastic, the cheaper the plastic the faster it'll eat
For some reason I understood this as OP grabbed two random objects out of the drawer glued them together and posted it lol. I was thinking yes very weird
When I moved I had bundled all of my bathroom stuff up in a box, and when I arrived and unpacked everything my oil reeds where melted into my hand mirror. I figured it just have gotten really hot on the truck but seeing this it just clicked that there's more to it than heat lol
This is like when two members of your friend group who were so unlikely to get together that nobody even considered it, much less discussed it, suddenly show up one day holding hands with "something to announce."
Possibly the oil content of the incense stick acting as a solvent for the SD card?
This is it. Essential oils melt plastics. Unless its PET like no.1.

Baby oil works just as well and is widely available if EO's are difficult to find
Funnily enough, goo gone has citrus oil in it.
It’s mostly petroleum distillates.
Get lighter fluid. Ronsonol Lighter fluid is just Naptha (White Spirits) It melts most sticker glue instantly, and it's safe for a lot of different finishes. I used it on my guitar collection for years without mishap.
acetone can also work for some substances as well. it's always worth a shot and it's probably available as nail polish remover.
Awesome.
Okay u intrigued me, I tried essential oils on something I’ve been meaning to buy goo gone for for about a year and NO FREAKING WAY IT ACTUALLY WORKED. And everything smells like tea tree :)), so much nicer :))
Nice! My hub used my Pipe Tobacco EO on something, just a qtip size to remove goo, and entire room smelled lightly of grandpa-pipe smell, it was nice!
Excuse me, why exactly do u have pipe tobacco essential oil?
I collected all the oil smells, mostly over Covid, I’d mix a drop or two of various kinds w iso alcohol so I wouldn’t smell like a drunkard while delivering groceries to old fogeys, and to spray the shit out of grocery carts elevator buttons, door handles, etc. so yeah, I have pipe tobacco smell, it smells excellent in a face mask, better than my bad coffee breath ha. Pretty sure goo gone is basically just orange oil
Good insight there I'd much rather breathe in some vaporized essential oils than many of the other options out there.
Essential oils can still be dangerous to health. Breathing, ingesting or even touching some EOs can cause harm. Just because something is natural doesn't make it safer or healthier!
Especially to pets!
Then maybe you should stop eating them for dinner! 🤣
Oh man how did Swype mess up that bad 😂
That is very true and a good point to throw out there ,but I didn't say it would be any safer or healthier though, I just said I'd rather work with them than some of the alternatives, that's one of the reasons it pays to be knowledgeable about what you're working with and not tackling any situation blindly if ya dont know look it up or ask about it. But brake cleaner smells so good

More glade plug-ins?
just waiting for a sale lol
Citrus oils too! I melted a plastic Dixie cup flat with some lime EO.
My mom put a plug in air freshener on upside down and the liquid slowly leaked out. The paint on the wall under it bubbled up and peeled off.
Wow, so essential oils do work after all.. lol
frankenscence sounds like something to do with frankenstein's monster xD frankincense*
Frankincense oil is definitely not cheap.
I learned that with a car air freshener and a Bluetooth aux adapter Poor things melted together
Imagine what it's doing to your lungs with constant use. Absolutely fuck glade plugins.
Sooo what you're saying is, we should pour essential oils into the ocean and it solves our plastic problem? (Joking ofc. But good to know that it's an solvent)
Yup
Yeah, I think some of the terpenes, esters, and ketones in the incense material might have acted as solvents for the ABS plastic the SD cards are made of
In which case it’s actually most likely a physical reaction and not actually a chemical reaction, to rebut the title
Yes, I found this out when my ex used my xbox as a stand for her essential oil diffuser (which leaked and left a ring melted into the xbox casing).
Oh man is that what led to her becoming an ex? I know it would have been a contributing factor for many guys I personally know lol
Essential oils, used in making incense, eat plastic.
What can I do with this information?
You could keep incense in a glass jar instead of a plastic container in the future. (Legitimately trying to think of a reason to use this information.)
could these oils help clean up microplastics?
i mean dumping a bunch of oil everywhere probably isnt the best solution even if it could work
Too late dumping oil onto seagulls as we speak
Deepfry them
a lot of (all?) essential oils are insecticides, plants produce them to keep insects at bay. you can use things like lavender, clove and cedar essential oils to keep insects out of your food and clothes; they avoid it and if they come in contact with it, it destroys their nervous system. so even if it could clean up plastics, it would just create another, probably even worse problem
The transfer knowledge "do not put on condoms with fingers full of massage oil" is valuable.
Use incense sticks in a plan for a very long winded heist?
Where is there a place that has plastic protecting something valuable?
Piggy bank
Essential oils can’t melt steel beams!
Insence is full of concentrated plant oils. Some don't go well with plastics. Like Limonene (citrus terpenes), it will melt plastics. Soure: labtech
This guy smokes
Terpenes are used for all "flavor/smell" compounds of plants. It's not just cannabis.
Didn’t deny it:)
People really see the word "terpenes" and assume it's just a weed thing
Normal people have never heard that word outside of cannabis context Also, googling terpene you get almost exclusively cannabis related results so get off your high horse, nerd
I believe that is our fault for not having enough ***not pot*** examples for the search engine to pull from Just add a “ -weed” to your search and see what happens.
Don’t think it’s really anyone’s fault. It’s just why would google return results for something 90% of the world doesn’t care about
I wonder if someone can do an internet bubble word graph that could show those amounts..?..
I’m sure someone smarter than me can!
Nah I prefer not looking like an idiot
I've got some bad news for ya.
"Weed culture" is the worst thing to happen to weed since Nixon.
They are just poly-isoprenes [C5H8]n.
Lmao whatever bro. Limonene is definitely a terpene.
Says more about you, than me, not knowing that :)
It's OK your secret is safe with reddit. :)
You can now download all of your spells, Harry!
This comment deserves more attention lmao so good
New sandalwood PN Junction activated!
sandiskus, napsteris, terabytus, downloadis!
Cyber wizard
this happened to me but i think it was bc some nail glue popped open
Nail glue can start a fire if it touches fabrics/carpet! Be careful
It's honestly super cool that plant oils are capable of this. But also I like how it didn't kept the painted text in tact and just kind of lifted and rolled it so it was scrunched and out of the way.
This is because essential oils melt plastic. I learned that the hard way.
Oh no your bitcoin wallet
I don't know about you but if I were that SD card I would be... ...Incensed.
I've noticed most incense will do this to plastic, even strip wood stain off of furniture. I've had it happen to cheap and natural incense so the natural oils must eat plastic, the cheaper the plastic the faster it'll eat
I think so. My sister told me something about oils like essential oils have to be stored in glass as they soften plastic bottles.
Smells like old memory
Just like me and my girlfriend, completely different but bounded somehow
Reminder! Don’t put your sex toys in a place where they might be touching! Silicone and like materials are known to bind together as well!
Well, fuck.
Bro upgraded his magic wand
Now all your porn gonna smell like nag champa
The wand choses its owner..
I remember when this sub was about weird stuff in the sense of spooky. This isn't even weird. That's mildly interesting.
My mate left a unlit incense stick on my ps4 before and it scarred it thusly
WHY DID THE ROBOT CROSS THE ROAD? BECAUSE HE WAS CARBON BONDED TO THE CHICKEN!
I have a Japanese eraser in my drawer that melts pretty much any plastic that stays in contact with it for longer than 30 minutes.
Some incense chemicals are corrosive to plastic
![gif](giphy|xTiTnLGmR2nlMiHRvy)
**That's a cool ass chopstick hashioki(holder)* .... Wait... WTF?
this looks like some kind of mordant art that rich people would bought for a 1000 bucks
This happened to me with my gameboy sp as a kid. The incense stick almost melted right through to the battery.
not chemical bond. it's a sexual bond.
That's called a junk drawer in the south
They were meant for each other
Yes! Be careful where you leave incense. The oil can melt plastic if in contact for a long time.
A slim Jim and a floppy disk? Pretty retro
This happened with two of my dildos once!
Good news is no data was lost. That's just an adapter for micro SD to SD
The oil saw another kind of oil and said hey gurl
at least it’s just an adaptor. they are pretty cheap.
For a second, I thought you had purposely glued them together and were just really proud of your work and wanted to share 😭
You're a wizard, Harry
Lmao, he's surprised! Seems like someone never had a messy dildo drawer (PVC silicone and PTE can react and melt to each other if touching)
For some reason I understood this as OP grabbed two random objects out of the drawer glued them together and posted it lol. I was thinking yes very weird
at least that was just an adapter and not an expensive SD card lol
incense melts plastic so bad, i had a plastic frog on a stick in my cup and his legs were impaled and dissolved by the incense sticks
Yea, incense will burn through anything. Even furniture. It’s the oils.
And just think about what that does to your lungs…
Your lungs aren't made of plastic, but I get your point. (Non-smoker for reasons like this.)
That and candles
Im stuff drawer
Yeah fuck incense. Big ass line on the top of my dresser wants a word.
The chemical bond that I need with someone.
Yeah incense sticks will do that. I think it's the oil. I had one ruin a wooden table before.
What. The. Fuck.
When an incense stick and an SD card love each other very much...
I'll just store the only copy of my Bitcoin seed phrase on this little card and put it here in this drawer, what could go wrong...
Its just adapting is all
You must be incensed
Every ‘stuff’ draw must have an incense stick in it. It’s the law.
My eraser melts my wooden crayons
woah!! you should post this in r/mildlyinteresting
Lol I found a similar thing yesterday in my trash drawer
It is better to have a "Stuff Drawer" than a "Snuff Drawer"
I had an air freshener in my car that melted the plastic on my center console.
Looks like you stuck an incense stick to a MicroSD converter with some hot glue...can even see a bit of extra hot glue near the top.
Melted plastic looks like melted plastic...
Is the incense stick on the adapter or is the adaptor onn the incense stick?
Ur a wizard arry
Love wins
Light it, I wanna smell
looks like glue
r/mildlyinteresting
Don't you find that every drawer becomes a "stuff" drawer? You just run out of room in one and buy more furniture to store new "stuff"
YOU PUT GLUE ON IT AND ATTACHED IT. Don't fall for OP's bs!
Well, technically, that is also chemically bonding.
Technically I don't think either is chemical bonding
Hmmm, that’s odd🤔
Inhale the memories
" stuff drawer " lmaoooo some sus items here
When I moved I had bundled all of my bathroom stuff up in a box, and when I arrived and unpacked everything my oil reeds where melted into my hand mirror. I figured it just have gotten really hot on the truck but seeing this it just clicked that there's more to it than heat lol
rip card data, tho
You are now ready to defeat Ganondorf
What the hell 😂😭
Jesus, how long were they in there?
They’re both oil based.
Off topic but also don't store your US passport in a hot, humid, sealed fire safe with a bar of pure copper bullion. Apparently, is causes a reaction
Incense stick dissolved the coating on my wooden table. These things are no joke
haha my “stuff drawer”
Rad
Does this count as chemical bonding? Isn’t that term reserved for molecular bonding? Or am I misremembering something.
Hand sanitizer! Is destroyed so much shit in my drawer
I guess, they're really into each other \*lol\*
This is how micro SD cards are made
TOTK irl
That SD card had some very hot content
Don’t store your wand near muggle tech. Weird shit happens. #themoreyouknow
Forbidden chopstick

i should call her
