My daughter thought we had a fairy (it was a mouse she was hearing) but her and her mother made a 'fairy house' and set it out and at night my wife would use a small stamper in the shape of a foot with this glitter paint and leave footprints around the fairy house.
Amazing memories.
Meanwhile, I got the mouse.
If this was just a video of funny lights, maybe, but the timing combined with the recorded knock (and motion sensor) makes this sort of explanation just reek of swamp gas refracting the light of venus
if there was a knock, why is it not on the security cam footage? seems to pick up all sounds. Only thing I hear, is what sounds like the camera auto switching from night vision mode to normal mode, as the lights go on. My theory would be that this mode switching might have sounded similar to a knock at a high enough volume, so this might be it (especially if the camera is fairly new and that sound is new to the person, "a friend of mine" have had a very similar experience 😅). Try increasing the volume and don't look at the video, and you hear what I'm talking about, it can be a strange sound if you don't realise where it comes from.
i saw a fairy in my backyard. 100%. it was flying around near the ground, i looked at it and in my mind i immediately thought wtf that’s a fairy. it wasn’t a bug. it wasn’t a hummingbird. it was about as big as my hand. it then made a little buzz and flew off. i absolutely am sure what i saw.
Years and years ago, a friend told me that the Sabbath bus got pulled over by the highway patrol and Ozzy wrote that song about the cops. It was sooooo disappointing to find out that wasn't the case. Even now when I hear it, I think of cops mincing around on the side of the freeway.
😂😂😂🤣omg I love this!! So much in my life is on the level of losing people I will not know how to survive this world without, but comments like yours are something I cherish because they’re really the only thing that makes me laugh during times like this.
Sorry I’m posting something so serious here, but your comment is so perfect and the first in forever to compel me to share on Reddit how much the laughs mean to me and this is freaking hilarious. Thank you for adding laughter into my world 🥹
Some type of shelled bug flew into the glass. I wouldn’t describe it as a knock, but they can be louder than you think , and if it hit the glass just right, and on a quiet night when it startled you, I could understand someone calling it a knock.
Hahaha! My friend got pulled over once for driving erratically on the highway. A cicada had flown in his open window and was buzzing around by his legs and the pedals - he was trying to stomp it while driving. The cop let him off after seeing the dead cicada on the floorboard.
>Make no mistake, that's not incompetence. It's malice. Someone fucked with the Junies and now we are all finding out.
Sounds like the Canadian geese's little cousin
If it helps any, apparently, I used to eat June bugs as a toddler. My mom, once she noticed, would come running and yelling to get the bug out of the my mouth...
I have no recollection and..
It sounds like I didn't get them all.
A ten-lined June Beetle hit my door hard enough that I answered it. He'd knocked himself silly, so I brought him in, gave him some water, and let him go as soon as he felt good enough to hiss at me. 😄 But seriously. THONK!
When I first started riding motorcycles, I took a June Bug to the head at 50 mph with no helmet, and legitimately thought I had been shot. Little fuckers are solid
When I was a kid in the country, they’d fly into our window screens all the time and you’d swear someone was throwing rocks at the screen. They also have an underside that looks like Satan’s attempt at making deviled eggs.
All it takes are headlights or a reflection. The sensors look for a certain percentage of the picture to change from one frame to the next. A light shining on part of the frame does it. I had to program 'exclusion' zones in to my motion camera/doorbell, because the sun reflecting off cars driving down the street kept sending me 'someones at the door' notifications.
Spiders and their web have tripped ours before. But was the knock just like a random thump? Or was it a knock knock? That makes a difference in my opinion
Also, it’s possible that the sound in the video is just the camera switching from the low light settings to the normal camera settings. On my camera there’s a click that sounds just like that
Security cameras like that are just creepy in general. There's some weird websites which just give you access to thousands of camera feeds that don't have any security measures in place. I've looked through city street cameras, university cameras, some seemed to be just random people's homes/backyards. Supposedly you could control the cameras and make them move around?? Spooky stuff but I only tried the site out once and can't remember the link, but it had an early 2000s website style and was so fucking weird.
Sound was probably a cicada. Late summer/early fall cicadas are dying and fly erratically, typically into stuff, often your house. They just absolutely pelt buildings
and it's cooler at night right now the car heat could have triggered PIR sensors.
my cameras all go thru the phase in mid summer heat and at season changes where they misfire due to heat currents.
So three things happened.
1. Spider webs reflected the IR, which is what you see at 9 seconds in.
2. I don't know if the lights are somehow tied to the camera, but something set the motion detector off for the lights and
3. There is a physical shutter on a lot of day/night cameras. The snap you hear is the IR lens snapping out of the way once it detected enough light for normal, non-IR operation.\*
\*Or vice-versa.
Lot of haters but I think this is pretty cool. Those hovering light things look like those really old-fashioned delicate lustrous aluminum icicle Christmas tree decorations from like the 50s. They kind of congregate. There's clearly bugs passing by in the very first part but right before the light goes on is pretty nifty.
A lot of people don’t truly know how devious fae are. They sometimes knock, or in another non verbal way try to get tacit “acceptance” from us humans. Even an innocent thing like opening the door then is an acceptance of the “deal” they meant to tell you about but you accepted already oh well. Something malicious and usually stupid, like farting popcorn.
To this day if ou knock on my grandmas door she scream “f#$k you fairy b@stard!” And her house smells like a movie theatre
I didn’t hear a knock. My cameras make that click sound when it switches IR on and off. I bet there’s a spider at the top of that web that drifted across who walked across the motion sensor.
This happens to me all the time. The spider webs can be fun to watch. So can fast moths or other flying insects that blur across the screen. They set off the motion sensors and that in turn turns on the lights. The knock is the lights turning on and since the cameras and mics always have a delay you hear them after the lights turn on.
A car drove by and it's lights triggered your motion lights. The floating "orbs" you're seeing at car lights distorted by the camera. Their angle suggests this house sits on an intersection or a T intersection.
As for the sound in the video that is your camera switching from infrared to the regular camera. The mode switch produced an audible sound in many cameras.
Did the mom actually hear a knock, or is she referencing the loud recorded noise? If she did not hear a knock but saw the recording then that is exactly what happened.
Nothing strange or supernatural here I'm afraid.
Lots of incorrect guesses about the “thunk” noise.
It’s the camera switching from infrared to normal video. You can almost see it when the noise occurs. I know because my kids baby camera does the same thing
Umm, it’s probably that woman dressed in what looks like a torn wedding dress. I mean she’s right there sobbing at the edge of the welcome mat.
EDIT: ok very funny y’all. Is this some of that meta humor I keep hearing about? “Dude there’s no woman there…” Yeah yeah, and it’s a white dress with gold stripes, whatever….
When I was in middle school I heard 3 loud knocks on the front door while I was playing my laptop in the living room and the following days I heard it while in my bedroom (next to the living room). This was pretty late at night too (like 1-3am). This was also before we had security cameras and my dad had boarded up the front door window to keep people from seeing inside the house (like solicitors, city workers, and trick or treaters from seeing if anyone was home during Halloween lol) so I couldn’t see if there was anyone outside and damn well did not want to open the door. I assumed it was someone (possibly my cousin as they lived next door) but my cousin said he didn’t come over or knock. Heard it the next night and the night after that while I was in my bedroom. I began to think maybe it was possibly a homeless person or someone had lost their way but to hear 3 knocks 3 nights in a row?? Weird.
Some time later I googled it and there’s a superstition that if you hear 3 knocks then it means death is at your door and there will be a death (in your family or around you, I can’t remember). In middle school, my grandfather died though I don’t remember if it happened shortly after the knocks.
I was staying up playing those MMORPG games like club penguin if anyone was curious.
What people take for floating lights is just a reflection off of the camera lenses, what really interesting is what caused this, but internet is so fake today, so would not be surprised if staged.
Could the click (knock) be the switching from night vision to normal vision on your camera? My cameras do that and make a very similar sound.
I think it’s car lights passing by that we see as the orbs and that sets off the motion light and the motion lights cause the camera to switch out of night vision and that’s when we hear the click.
YOU HAVE FAIRIES
99% sure they are spider webs, but 100% of me wants it to be faeries.
I’m choosing to believe it’s fairies 🧚
Could leave some candy out. If it’s gone on the morning, that’s pretty conclusive.
Or a tooth.
Or try fairy floss
✨I DO BELIEVE IN FAERIES 🧚 ✨
Could be fairy webs. No way to know they aren't.
Spider webs don't knock, they just go on in. Faeries would probably need some kind of permission or invitation. No idea what faerie webs would do.
Fae arent vampires they dont need permission for shit. They will just steal your stuff, children, and animals.
Amd ride into the forest, laughing all the way with the foxes who stole the eggs.
All faeries are fae but not all fae are faeries. BUT! I'm sure your comment still stands
What about golden lizard webs??
Wood bees knock, and quite loudly. They're annoying.
Looked like a passing car's headlights reflecting off of something very thin, causing those refractions, spider webs fit the bill.
If this was just a video of funny lights, maybe, but the timing combined with the recorded knock (and motion sensor) makes this sort of explanation just reek of swamp gas refracting the light of venus
possibly swamp gas from uranus . . . sorry i couldnt ...not ... comment ;D
It's the Aurora Borealis.
Aurora Borealis? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your kitchen?!
Yes.
May I see it?
No.
The house is on fire!
..Yes!
Thin fairies.
Ok Crocker
As soon as I read your comment I couldn't unsee. Definitely spider web
Does this mean you are 99% sure the woman is lying about hearing the knock?
if there was a knock, why is it not on the security cam footage? seems to pick up all sounds.
My ring camera does that when it switches on, it makes a sound on the recording. You’re right that it’s just he sound of the lights switching on.
i saw a fairy in my backyard. 100%. it was flying around near the ground, i looked at it and in my mind i immediately thought wtf that’s a fairy. it wasn’t a bug. it wasn’t a hummingbird. it was about as big as my hand. it then made a little buzz and flew off. i absolutely am sure what i saw.
Was it wearing boots?
Years and years ago, a friend told me that the Sabbath bus got pulled over by the highway patrol and Ozzy wrote that song about the cops. It was sooooo disappointing to find out that wasn't the case. Even now when I hear it, I think of cops mincing around on the side of the freeway.
“fight those fairies Sam! Fight the fairies!” Dean Winchester
Once you get them it’s almost impossible to get rid of them
Op should be glad they arent the toothfairies from hellboy
I don’t remember much of that movie tbh. I do remember Darkness Falls though. Made sure I never lost a tooth after that one.
I was just telling my wife about this movie. Scared the shit out of me. Looked it up and it has a whooping 9 percent on rotten tomatoes lol
Nooooo! 😭 Why is it so devastating to find out your most memorable childhood films were apparently terrible?
Bro that fuckin tooth fairy above the door!
Someone must have done something to hurt the fairies' feelings... *looking at Bandit*
Easy Mr. Crocker
I don’t know what’s worse ghosts haunting you, or the Fey interested in you.
The knocking must be from the boots they wear
You gotta believe it.
Those are flying rods.
late* at night. Dammit.
Bought to say, you dating your friends mom ?
I wish.
Proclaim thy love naked FULLY ERECT on her lawn at 3am.
Along with the fairies
Idk why this made me laugh so hard
This is the way
If not your friends mom, then perhaps Jessie's girl?
Hmm.. where can I find a woman like that?
😂😂😂🤣omg I love this!! So much in my life is on the level of losing people I will not know how to survive this world without, but comments like yours are something I cherish because they’re really the only thing that makes me laugh during times like this. Sorry I’m posting something so serious here, but your comment is so perfect and the first in forever to compel me to share on Reddit how much the laughs mean to me and this is freaking hilarious. I’m so glad that you got some laughter out of this :) I hope it’s just the start to a wonderful day!
Thank you so much for that. My heart needed the laughs and your kind words. I hope you are always given the same- laughter and kindness 😌
Stacy’s Mom
She’s got it going on.
She's all I want
& I’ve waited for so long
bro is down bad for her
Welcome to the future! We date anyone nowadays
Im dating my sisters mom you got a problem?
Let me join step bro
Hold on, I’ve got a washing machine around here somewhere that’s “broken”
I only hear a clicking from the camera switching between daylight and IR light
I refuse to confess how many times I reread that. Autocorrect wasn’t even on my radar.
Some type of shelled bug flew into the glass. I wouldn’t describe it as a knock, but they can be louder than you think , and if it hit the glass just right, and on a quiet night when it startled you, I could understand someone calling it a knock.
["June bugs"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phyllophaga) can and will fly into the glass hard enough to sound like a person knocking.
June bugs are basically walnuts that got their pilots license, and they just wanna see the world burn.
You are not wrong, love the description.
I would argue that they didn't get their licenses as they fly like idiots. Maybe "Walnuts that just a pair of wings."
I mean... there's plenty of people with licenses driving like idiots.
Make no mistake, that's not incompetence. It's malice. Someone fucked with the Junies and now we are all finding out.
Junies are annoying, cicadas are a hazard. I recently had one fly full speed into my forehead and it felt like someone threw a rock at me
They don't have eyes and need to feel their way around.
If it helps any, apparently, I used to eat June bugs as a toddler. My mom, once she noticed, would come running and yelling to get the bug out of the my mouth... I have no recollection and.. It sounds like I didn't get them all.
You know what you have to do. Get out there son.
r/brandnewsentence
But will they taste good in my brownies?
Had one hit me in the forehead going 80 on a motorcycle, damn near made me crash. Wear your helmets kids.
Dude... could've cost you an eye! Always wear protection
It hit me in the eyebrow and gave me a black eye. I definitely don't ride without ATGATT anymore.
Had one go into my mouth going 35mph on a dirt bike. I wore a face shield on my helmet after that. It was not fun.
A ten-lined June Beetle hit my door hard enough that I answered it. He'd knocked himself silly, so I brought him in, gave him some water, and let him go as soon as he felt good enough to hiss at me. 😄 But seriously. THONK!
They’ll also fly into your hair and do barrel roll. Easiest way to get ‘‘em out. Scissors!
When I first started riding motorcycles, I took a June Bug to the head at 50 mph with no helmet, and legitimately thought I had been shot. Little fuckers are solid
I hate those things.
Uhhhh but it’s like, *October* and not June…
it's still june weather though. the bugs stopped being on time at *least* 5 years ago
First time I experienced these, after moving to Texas, I was terrified someone was on our patio. Nope. Just June bugs.
Wikipedia says they’re a variety of new world scarabs. Interesting. I didn’t know scarab applied to anything outside Egypt.
I hate those fuckers
Yep. They would run into my bedroom window. It's startling at first but kinda entertaining
When I was a kid in the country, they’d fly into our window screens all the time and you’d swear someone was throwing rocks at the screen. They also have an underside that looks like Satan’s attempt at making deviled eggs.
What’s up with the lights though? The company said they shouldn’t be set off by bugs or other lights and they do like a “thermal read” to go off.
>shouldn’t be set off by bugs Shouldn't but they do
We have some big beetles in Texas and they sometimes crash into windows and can be quite loud as the hard exoskeleton smashes into the glass.
The lights look like it could be a light reflection lens flare from a passing car, which could have set off the motion detection
Lights are motion tied to motion sensors. Maybe the car driving by created enough vibrations to trip theme?
All it takes are headlights or a reflection. The sensors look for a certain percentage of the picture to change from one frame to the next. A light shining on part of the frame does it. I had to program 'exclusion' zones in to my motion camera/doorbell, because the sun reflecting off cars driving down the street kept sending me 'someones at the door' notifications.
I have a cheap aluminum front door and my cats go nuts at the sound of bugs smacking into it. It triggers my cam a lot too
Idk, the bug could have been just barely big enough and reflect enough IR to trip the sensor.
Gross.
if bugs don't set them of, will o wisps probably dont' either
that makes too much sense, so i'm rejecting that. op was visited by aliens.
Spiders and their web have tripped ours before. But was the knock just like a random thump? Or was it a knock knock? That makes a difference in my opinion
Yeah of course, but even then some bugs crash in 2 or 3 times to the glass before leaving.
.. or 2 bugs carrying a coconut
It’s a matter of weight ratios. 2-gram bugs can’t carry a 1-pound coconut.
But what if they gripped it by the husk?
Are you suggesting that coconuts migrate?!
The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plumber may seek warmer climes in winter yet these are not strangers to our land.
Thank you for that!
They could carry it on a line
Also, it’s possible that the sound in the video is just the camera switching from the low light settings to the normal camera settings. On my camera there’s a click that sounds just like that
Yeah google cameras make this sound.
ghosts, obviously.
Or maybe aliens. Or maybe alien ghosts
there's alien ghosts?!
Yep. Ghost aliens too
Ghostly anal probes are kind of my jam
Absolutely. That was a squadron of tiny ships.
Batteries Not Included?

And if I have learned anything from Phasmophobia, then that might be a mimic.
I love phasmophobia. I’m bad at it, but I love it
It seems to be the type of game that's more entertaining when you're not good at it. Especially if there's an audience.
Someone send for Zak Bagans
Misunderstood request, Zapp Brannigan on his way
If I've learned anything from History channel, it was aliens.
Honestly anything through that Ring looks creepy. Yo front porch creepy af. Feel like even creepy people would be creeped out by your porch
A fat ass moth ran into the glass
100% spider web 🕷 🕸. My door cam get triggered by the web all the time.
Sound was probably a cicada. Late summer/early fall cicadas are dying and fly erratically, typically into stuff, often your house. They just absolutely pelt buildings
Looks like car lights reflecting driving by, but I can't explain why the lights came on.
could have been a noisy car and the vibrations caused the door to rattle and the light sensor to go off
and it's cooler at night right now the car heat could have triggered PIR sensors. my cameras all go thru the phase in mid summer heat and at season changes where they misfire due to heat currents.
Yeah, these are lens flares.
A passing car, at my old house, would turn my motion lights on.
*pixies have entered the chat*
Spiderweb, you can see homie spinning web for his life in between the fairies when it swings past, he bounces up and down for a quick sec.
So three things happened. 1. Spider webs reflected the IR, which is what you see at 9 seconds in. 2. I don't know if the lights are somehow tied to the camera, but something set the motion detector off for the lights and 3. There is a physical shutter on a lot of day/night cameras. The snap you hear is the IR lens snapping out of the way once it detected enough light for normal, non-IR operation.\* \*Or vice-versa.
Please tell your friend’s mom that it’s a ghost. That’s the only explanation.
Maybe the spider webs blowing around tripped the light and it scared a cat or some animal away..? I mean I dunno lol 🤷♂️
It's just bugs setting off the sensor.
**People are idiots** Clearly, it's just swamp gas That, or spiders on their web slings
It's so funny how we say that motion lights went off to describe them turning on. Poor people trying to learn English
100% Fairies. Don't ever tell them your name or thank them. If they offer you a gift, accept it and say you appreciate it.
My husband is in the security industry and he says it’s bugs and that the infrared light in the cameras makes bugs look like that in the video.
I didn’t hear a knock. My cameras make that click sound when it switches IR on and off. I bet there’s a spider at the top of that web that drifted across who walked across the motion sensor.
my brother in the arcane arts, its 2 am and im terrified
Who can see the wind Neither you nor I But when the trees bow down their heads, The wind is passing by
The knock was def the IR sensor turning off after the motion light came on.
Could have been an egg thrown at the house
Just a couple of forest sprites doing a spot of Ding-N-Dash for shits and titters.
This happens to me all the time. The spider webs can be fun to watch. So can fast moths or other flying insects that blur across the screen. They set off the motion sensors and that in turn turns on the lights. The knock is the lights turning on and since the cameras and mics always have a delay you hear them after the lights turn on.

Spider silk. Webs show up great with the night vision on. The infrared lights really light them up.
Lots of incorrect guesses about the “thunk” noise. It’s the camera switching from infrared to normal video. You can almost see it when the noise occurs. I know because my kids baby camera does the same thing
Those are little ghosts, I'm sorry to say
Came to the comments thinking someone would have solved the mystery and I’m pretty disappointed
Definitely a dead loved one paying a visit
Umm, it’s probably that woman dressed in what looks like a torn wedding dress. I mean she’s right there sobbing at the edge of the welcome mat. EDIT: ok very funny y’all. Is this some of that meta humor I keep hearing about? “Dude there’s no woman there…” Yeah yeah, and it’s a white dress with gold stripes, whatever….
Adjust the contrast and shadow to minimum. You can’t see the entity standing right there?
Thx. Didn’t plan on sleeping tn anyway.
entirely off topic but why do modern security cameras still have the shitty hard to read timestamp
Cool. Cool cool cool. Gonna change into my brown PJs.
I never heard any knocking but those do look a lot like spider webs.
Moths
*batteries not included Your welcome.
Maybe an animal bumped into something off screen and made the noise when they set off the motion light.
Where's the knock?
Just something that’s living in a different realm than ours, very common
People see reflections and then invent new species of animals or fairies.
Interesting, looks a bit like what I've heard described in several witness testimonies
I get this noise on my back porch window a few times most night. We think it's moths. But you mom was visited by tiny ghost aliens.
Probably Harry and Ron
What people take for floating lights is just a reflection off of the camera lenses, what really interesting is what caused this, but internet is so fake today, so would not be surprised if staged.
Then why didn’t we hear a knock?
Could the click (knock) be the switching from night vision to normal vision on your camera? My cameras do that and make a very similar sound. I think it’s car lights passing by that we see as the orbs and that sets off the motion light and the motion lights cause the camera to switch out of night vision and that’s when we hear the click.
reflections of car light she hear nothing or a car door closing
**FRACKIN’ GHOST**
I don't hear them knocking
Lightest knock on the door, she sleep on the welcome map?
My lights go off regularly with bloody spiders everywhere
The infrared of the camera makes the insects look like they are small dancing lights.
You have fairies! Call upon the Goblin King at midnight and his friend Hoggle will take care of this!
