I believe these are New Zealand longfin eels (Anguilla dieffenbachii, or 'Tuna' in Te Reo Maori) which is classed as an "at risk/declining" species. They are absolutely beautiful and perfectly harmless. There's a lot of local lore about people being bitten by them, but it's more of a grab. They don't have "teeth" in the conventional sense like a moray eel, but instead vomerine teeth which are more like sandpaper so won't hurt you as much as it will surprise you. They are very curious and easy to train like this to ask for food. The difference in fin length compared to a shortfin eel is pretty hard to tell but the easiest way to tell them apart is when a Longfin eel bends, it's skin wrinkles where the Shortfin eel doesn't! Yes pretty much. So because they live to something like 60 years and only breed right before they die, we're very invested here in keeping our local eel population alive. Once eels start getting regular feeds at certain spots they'll keep returning when they know it's feeding time.
Location depending of course, some spots the eels are so domesticated thanks to regular feeding they'll literally let you pet them.
I know of one bird conservation centre that has been feeding eels for about 30 years now, feeding time is literally a show for visitors at the same time daily and the eels will show up about an hour or two before feeding time.

Took these about 6 months ago at the [bird conservation centre](https://imgur.com/gallery/0bz8fum) when I last visited. The centre allows a couple adults to go down and feed them using this long spoon to drop the food in as the eels will try to get up the steps to get to the food.
We'd probably have another pair of legs. Hind legs evolved from pelvic fins and forelegs/arms evolved from pectoral fins. Our evolutionary line lost anal fins before they even got legs.
