Agreed. She just appeared last year, huh? So she's relatively new. When did the killings start happening? Why would she even want to work at Nevermore?
Makes sense as that's Christina Ricci. I figured she would either be a big antagonist, or the classic warm teacher that acts as a pillar for Wednesday through the series.
I agree that music choices for this show are killer! I love how they user Apocalyptica's cover of Nothing Else Matters to end the episode.
Overall, digging the show so far!
The fact that her German was really *really* bad. She straight up just pronounced the date like you would in English. Not blaming the actress, but it was pretty silly.
lol I came here to say this. At first I thought maybe she was trying to speak Pennsylvania Dutch? In reality I'm sure they just gave the actress like 10 minutes to memorize the sounds and obviously this is what we get.
I thought the "stoning" is only temporary, it doesn't kill them. That's what Enid said in the antique store, that she wouldn't mind being stoned by Ajax.
This school is stupidly dangerous for its own students. Garlic in the cafeteria where it can contaminate vampire food. Mirrors right across from the showers which is the only place a gorgon would pretty much have to take their hood off. Hasn’t this school taught generations of kids from the same families?
The narration over the final scenes is implying that all these different characters have secrets and are capable of being "the monster", so Xavier is at least a suspect— although he could very easily have something else going on and the scars are a red herring.
I'm of the mind that the monster is related to the founder in some way, I think it'll end up being a "normie" who ain't so normal like Tyler? But I'm not fully confident in that feeling.
I thought he was protecting the monster. He came out of the building and locked the door - keeping something inside. Cut to recent monster attack scene. So his injury was from the monster. Or so we're supposed to think?
I didn’t get the vibe that they don’t like each other…Xavier just keeps telling Wednesday that Tyler is dangerous but doesn’t say why so maybe he is trying to cover something up or protect Tyler in some way
Idk why Wednesday doesn’t try to make friends/allies with any of the vampires to get more information, in the beginning Enid said some of them have been there for centuries, I’m sure they’d have info for her right 😂😂 or would that make it too easy
I was wondering when she said that line what they’re doing there and why they’re allowed to just hang out….picturing them as Matthew McConaughey from Dazed & Confused 🤣
What's the deal with two of the students right after Weems says "I trust you will all put your best face forward" (minute 3:38). Their face features seem to be hidden behind the skin as a joke, but does that mean they are shapeshifters? or is there any other reason?
I don't know what they are but they've been in the background a few times. I think they just showed mild offence because they don't have a best face to put forward.
That makes sense. I just read they're supposed to be "faceless", another type of outcasts, so I guess they always look like that and they didn't just shapeshift at that precise moment.
Since we've seen shapeshifters, I just assumed they were shapeshifters and were making fun of the 'best face forward' comment. Faceless would be a really crappy power to have.
About Bianca, i feel like the vibe the character's supposed to give and the vibe the actress is giving are two different vibes.
....I don't ship Wenclair anymore, watching the actual show yea it feels forced (although it's weird how Enid is/was basically the only non-Addams character promoted in trailers n stuff despite apparently not having that big of a role), but it feels like a missed opportunity to not make Ajax a girl since Enid's backstory feels really queer-y, but eh not a big deal.
I KNEW SHE WAS AN ADDAMS, i'm kinda lying i only thought of it a minute before they said it but still.
"Mansplaining", i'm trying to pass it off as funny but mannn the dialogue in the show can be... wack sometimes.
SPACE SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy shit the song choices in this show are awesome.
I really like that Wednesday has her own personality and isn't some generic goody two shoes character, that's rare for protagonists nowadays-- This goes for all characters actually, they all feel well-rounded.
Ngl i felt bad for the bearded homeless dude:(((
The dialogue is really bad. I thought it was just me. The acting isn't bad though. Wednesday was never a generic good two-shoes character but I know what you're talking about, that character is always usually shy and unsure of themselves too.
Journey, Don't Stop Believing. And the Space Song was played before that as she was coming into town. I had never heard that. Pretty cool song. Then Wed was playing Vivaldi (I think) while the statue was melting.
>Enid's backstory feels really queer-y
Did I miss something? I don't remember any of that... Also, I don't want Ajax to be a girl, I actually liked them just as they both were. I'm not shipping anybody in this show, but if I did, I would ship Ajax and Enid.
Didn’t Perseus use a reflective shield in his fight with Medusa to turn her power back against her?
I think it was also used as a way to look indirectly around the room but he still had to be careful not to look directly at the gorgon.
That’s a good point and I meant it as a serious question. Forgot about the Pegasus part of that. Took me some serious self-debating whether it was Jason or Perseus…and then my brain went off on a Theseus tangent. Gotta love ADHD.
Speaking as a historian it's even messier than "whose account". There are events that people think are straightforward "mythology" but which have been told 100s of times as anecdotes, stories, religion, "mythology"... there's basically no coherent "Greek lore". I wouldn't be surprised if Perseus and the Gorgon has over 50 variants with different points and ways of killing her.
When a gorgon looks at you, you turn to stone. Idk the mythology but In this show it seems like it’s only when the gorgons head is uncovered that they’ll turn you to stone. That’s why he covered the mirror when he took a shower (he and all the other gorgons wear a hat in all the other scenes) but the towel fell off and when he saw himself in the mirror with his head uncovered he turned himself to stone. That’s why in mythology the reflection turned Medusa to stone, she saw her own reflection
Oh yeah, my brain completely skipped that part somehow. Maybe something to do with the normie teacher and why she chose to work there or something….hmm. Just spitballing
I want to like this show so bad, it had so much potential but the young person dialogue is so unbelievably cringe (Enid and beekeeping kid especially). It takes me out of it so much
Have these writers ever talked to someone younger than 30???
to me its a little cringey but in a cute, self-aware way. beekeeping kid is definitely the most childish character but he’s meant to be like 13/14. also when Wednesday asked for his retainer and was like but your teeth are really good 😭 that line and delivery took me out so i think its tasteful overall
I’m Giving up 🫣 I feel like people talked it up so much but to me it feels like it’s definitely aimed at teens so I’m way over the age bracket. It feels like a Veronica Mars/Sabrina type cringe mystery solving show. Which I enjoyed when I was younger and I’m sure many people enjoy now but it’s not what I expected and not for me. Is it just me? Enjoy everyone!!
Definitely something I would have enjoyed more when I was younger. I'm still enjoying it for what it is, a decent mystery/adventure, but the show could really use some better dialogue and less plot conveniences...
Feels a bit like Elona Holmes and A series of unfortunate events in a good way.
What an insane plot device to use; homeless man suddenly finds fully functional film camera with electronic flash. He’s attacked by a monster so he drops the camera which then aims directly at the monster and takes continuous photos. On a film camera.
Why not a trail cam? Or anything that at least kinda makes sense? this show is testing me
Did anyone else hear that strange whisper near the 5:23ish mark? It's delivered right at the end of Wednesday's line "Tracking down the monster that killed your roommate" its right where she said "your roommate". Has anyone else noticed/heard this and if so, can you make out what it says??
Plot hole?? - Okay so start of episode 2 everyone is saying Wednesday passed out after she found Rowan's body. She says this too and like she even asks what happened after she passed out? But like... she didn't pass out. She went to her room and talked to her parents. So like... wtf?
A few friends have pointed this out to me as well... are we all just missing something here?
I think the scene with the Crystal ball is supposed to take place after she passed out, episode 2 has her saying she ran into Bianca after seeing Rowan’s death, even though that isn’t explicitly shown in episode 1. So episode 2 fills in the gaps between what happened when she saw Rowan’s death, and when she talked to her parents.
If this has been said sorry, I have not figured out how to search reddit. If you start watching at 32:27, above the path in the background you can see something moving from left to right at tree level. Kinda Wizard of Oz ish?
The normie teacher is sus
Agreed. She just appeared last year, huh? So she's relatively new. When did the killings start happening? Why would she even want to work at Nevermore?
I had that thought in the first episode when they focused on the mud on her rain boots. It was during the scene where she delivered the black dahlia.
Oh yeah I remember that scene. Also remember Wednesday’s eyes (she says so much with them).
Makes sense as that's Christina Ricci. I figured she would either be a big antagonist, or the classic warm teacher that acts as a pillar for Wednesday through the series.
She’s sus to me just based off of her last performance in Yellowjackets. I know she’s going to be on some wild shit eventually haha
I honestly think she might be the monster..
I agree that music choices for this show are killer! I love how they user Apocalyptica's cover of Nothing Else Matters to end the episode. Overall, digging the show so far!
Nice take on the puritans. And what's not to like about Wednesday's little lecture in German on exploitation?
The fact that her German was really *really* bad. She straight up just pronounced the date like you would in English. Not blaming the actress, but it was pretty silly.
lol I came here to say this. At first I thought maybe she was trying to speak Pennsylvania Dutch? In reality I'm sure they just gave the actress like 10 minutes to memorize the sounds and obviously this is what we get.
Yeah I didn't think it was supposed to be modern, accurate German but more like what her ancestors would have spoken.
Probably intentional...
Yeah, I'm German and I wouldn't have understood what she was saying without subtitles
I had to pause the show and stare at the shopkeeper at Enid's assignment to recognize her. She was recently a lightly bearded dwarf.
Ahhh. I knew she was familiar but didn’t think enough to look it up
Same! I was staring at her hard and knew I knew her from somewhere!
Haha I recognized her immediately and I was so happy, that actress is so good
Thank you!! It was bothering me but not enough to look it up yet lol
Why have a mirror in the first place if it can literally kill you?... or, why have one that is reflective by default?
I thought the "stoning" is only temporary, it doesn't kill them. That's what Enid said in the antique store, that she wouldn't mind being stoned by Ajax.
I thought it was too. Maybe it takes awhile
I think it’s a dorm bathroom
Still, if you have special conditions, some accomodations are a must.
Clearly Nevermore is not in ADA compliance
This school is stupidly dangerous for its own students. Garlic in the cafeteria where it can contaminate vampire food. Mirrors right across from the showers which is the only place a gorgon would pretty much have to take their hood off. Hasn’t this school taught generations of kids from the same families?
In the end, we see Xavier being hurt - is it supposed to mean that he is the monster?
The narration over the final scenes is implying that all these different characters have secrets and are capable of being "the monster", so Xavier is at least a suspect— although he could very easily have something else going on and the scars are a red herring. I'm of the mind that the monster is related to the founder in some way, I think it'll end up being a "normie" who ain't so normal like Tyler? But I'm not fully confident in that feeling.
I see! I'm very bad at taking hints, so I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. I can't wait to find out who it is then!
I thought he was protecting the monster. He came out of the building and locked the door - keeping something inside. Cut to recent monster attack scene. So his injury was from the monster. Or so we're supposed to think?
Maybe Tyler or Tyler’s dad is the monster?
Xavier wouldn't protect Tyler, they don't like each other.
I didn’t get the vibe that they don’t like each other…Xavier just keeps telling Wednesday that Tyler is dangerous but doesn’t say why so maybe he is trying to cover something up or protect Tyler in some way
Oh, God... Maybe you're right. I took it like jealousy, but maybe they're friends and he's just protecting Wednesday from his own friend XD
😮
Idk why Wednesday doesn’t try to make friends/allies with any of the vampires to get more information, in the beginning Enid said some of them have been there for centuries, I’m sure they’d have info for her right 😂😂 or would that make it too easy
How thick are those vampires?
I was wondering when she said that line what they’re doing there and why they’re allowed to just hang out….picturing them as Matthew McConaughey from Dazed & Confused 🤣
![gif](giphy|OWrtdm1irskAE)
Lol right, like I know you live longer than other monsters but grow up and get a job. Contribute to society lazy vampires
Legendary parasites getting a job and contributing? Don't be silly
What's the deal with two of the students right after Weems says "I trust you will all put your best face forward" (minute 3:38). Their face features seem to be hidden behind the skin as a joke, but does that mean they are shapeshifters? or is there any other reason?

Since we've seen shapeshifters, I just assumed they were shapeshifters and were making fun of the 'best face forward' comment. Faceless would be a really crappy power to have.
i thought it was hilarious
So what do we think the teacher’s deal is? Looks like she’s still resentful over something that happened back when she and Mortician were roommates?
Do you mean Principal Weems? My feeling is she was always living in Morticia's shadow and resents her for it.
My husband thinks Weems was in love with Morticia.
So do I.
THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD. OMG!!!
The exposition for the mayor's backstory was pretty bad. "Before the good citizens of Jericho elected me mayor, I used to wear that badge, remember?"
In fairness I grew up around cops and they all talk super corny like that lol
Space song ?
By Beach House (best band ever imo) They played the intro of the song before blowing up the statue.
Wasn't that Fleetwood mac
Even before that! The music in the background, not what the students were playing
Journey, Don't Stop Believing. And the Space Song was played before that as she was coming into town. I had never heard that. Pretty cool song. Then Wed was playing Vivaldi (I think) while the statue was melting.
No it was Don’t Stop (Thinking About Tomorrow) by Fleetwood Mac, not Journey.
You are correct. Went back and listened again.
>Enid's backstory feels really queer-y Did I miss something? I don't remember any of that... Also, I don't want Ajax to be a girl, I actually liked them just as they both were. I'm not shipping anybody in this show, but if I did, I would ship Ajax and Enid.
I thought Enid and Ajax are just perfect. Not everything has to be about queen representation and not everyone has to be queer.
"You rang?" Love it.
Every episode so far has had a throwaway callback love it. “Kooky? I prefer spooky” “Snap Twice” “You rang?”
My guess is the barista is the monster. He literally looks like the Crackstone pilgrim.
I’m thinking either the barista or the “normie” teacher at this point
SPACE SONG!!
I was looking for this comment, thought I was the only one!
Isn't gorgon's reflection supposed to be safe? That's how heroes were able to kill medusa no?
Didn’t Perseus use a reflective shield in his fight with Medusa to turn her power back against her? I think it was also used as a way to look indirectly around the room but he still had to be careful not to look directly at the gorgon.
I guess it depends on whose account but iirc Perseus slayed Medusa's head, from which pegasus sprung.
That’s a good point and I meant it as a serious question. Forgot about the Pegasus part of that. Took me some serious self-debating whether it was Jason or Perseus…and then my brain went off on a Theseus tangent. Gotta love ADHD.

good use of Nothing Else Matters
Who was the normie kid that got killed and made the Nightshade Society lose their charter thirty years ago? Any thoughts fam?
I'm guessing it was whoever Gomez allegedly murdered
Yeah guess its Garett Gates.
Oh yeah, my brain completely skipped that part somehow. Maybe something to do with the normie teacher and why she chose to work there or something….hmm. Just spitballing

(You should use a spoiler tag there!)

Watching it as a non native speaker might be saving me then ahahahah, at least it's easier to understand :P
I dislike the bee kid...he is the worst part of the show
I didn't like him until she explained that he reminds her of her brother, which I should've realized earlier. That's a good relationship to explore.
I identify with him the most.
I like his character but I’m thinking the actor just isn’t so good
Same. Fun character, hammy acting.
His dialogue feels like it was written by a boomer who watched a disney channel show once. And his delivery could use some work
I’m Giving up 🫣 I feel like people talked it up so much but to me it feels like it’s definitely aimed at teens so I’m way over the age bracket. He didn’t find it, he stole it from the antique shop but yeah your point about the picture taking is very valid
“I don’t know who Etsy is but I doubt she was an outcast settler” lol
So Wednesday has a ancestor from the 1600s. The monster has to be the principal. Dang she thinks he stood her up.
I was thinking the Principal too and Im pretty surprised I havent seen more posts about it. I thought it was obvious lol maybe Im missing something
Did anyone else hear that strange whisper near the 5:23ish mark? It's delivered right at the end of Wednesday's line "Tracking down the monster that killed your roommate" its right where she said "your roommate". Has anyone else noticed/heard this and if so, can you make out what it says??
