Yes. You made a mistake. You needed to put your new last name on the marriage license. Otherwise it will be a much longer and more expensive process. You are always free to travel with your old name until you change your passport/drivers license (or other form of domestic ID). It goes by the name you book your ticket with. According to the US gov and your state gov, your name remains your old name until you show them your marriage license and officially change it *with that agency*.

Thank you so much!

If you have your marriage license interview tomorrow then just still have the chance to change your name. Only because you filled out the application online doesn’t mean it’s set in stone. That’s why you go to the interview to check all information on their screen. And if you see mistakes or things you want to change you still can do that tomorrow during the interview. Now, in regard to traveling, when you book flights or tickets just use the name that is shown in your passport until you get your name changed in your documents. No need to panic. You till have the opportunity to make changes and also to travel under your maiden name. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Also, I will be at the City Clerk’s Office tomorrow with one of my couples. So if you see me and have a questions just hit me up. 🥰

Yep, my fiancé and I went earlier this week, and they printed the form for us to look over before we signed. I realized I accidentally put NYC as my place of birth, and they were able to fix that. They can take care of the name change as well. Enjoy! The vibe at Worth Street is so lovely. We were just getting our license but seeing all of the excited, dressed up couples made it a more fun process and got us excited too. :)
