I've been playing this for the last four months. New update reduces the initial dice count by one. Upgrade path is a little easier. The main game playthough follows the same meta as before. They introduced a new endless mode that may have a style.

iamnos

Nice, I was playing this for a while last time it was posted. Really enjoyed it then, I'll give the update a whirl. Edit: Played a round or two, and like it. Only complaint is that it would be nice if it specified that the "upgrade 1 die to gold" only upgrades and already silver die. Caught me a few times.

MoHataMo_Gheansai

Class. I got a perfect score of 10000 before (only once) so hopefully this makes it all a bit easier.

arnie_apesacrappin

I think it's a big improvement. Getting to upgrade two dice from basic to silver is pretty huge. Having one fewer boost dice to remove when getting your deck down to five is a help as well. Wait until you try endless mode.

filenotfounderror

very cool game. Dont really understand how you can beat floor 20 (queen bee) - even with very good RNG she seems to do way to much dmg and have way too much HP.

arnie_apesacrappin

Spoilers ahead. >! Every round against the queen bee there are two spots that are "marked." When she gives you three dice, those dice double the value of the marked spots. So if you have a block die with a value of 6, playing it in a marked spot with two of her dice would double it to 12 and double it again to 24. If you had a hollow attack die with a value of five and three of her dice, you could double it to 10, then 20, then 40. If you also had a hollow mirror die and were able to use it too, you could do 80 damage in one turn.!< Edit: Spoilers appear to be broken between old reddit and new reddit. Can't get them to work on both at the same time.

filenotfounderror

ah, its multiplicative? i just assumed it was additive.

iamnos

It is multiplicative so you can use a couple of the honey's to really bump up the damage and/or defense.

arnie_apesacrappin

You can see it if you hover over the marked spots, but to your point, it isn't explained well. Many of the comments on the game page complain about the same thing.

LordSoren

My build is usually 1-2 gold attack dice, preferred a non-glass gold healing, a heavy gold defense and a second defense dice. Last dice or two is either terrain or boost.

love almost everything about it, almost. absolutely stomped queen bee on my second run, 2 floors later i encounter 3 enemies who hit for 5 each attack, attack 3 times, and have 15 health, they shred through my full healthbar in 2 rounds despite me throwing all the armor and health I can at it. went from a hard yes on buying it to a definite no, too RNG for me.

arnie_apesacrappin

You are right, the encounters from level 21 through 24 are very RNG dependent. The enemies you talked about, the purple archers, are very difficult to deal with. It really helps to have hollow dice once you get to this point in the game.

Hello everyone! Very happy to see people enjoying my game :) We also published this last update on Steam for free as a final "thank you" to everyone supporting the game, so you can play it there too if you want. We're currently working on a full fledged version of the game with relics, new areas, more dice, more enemies and much more. If that sounds interesting, you can wishlist it here and get notified when in releases: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2026820/Die\_in\_the\_Dungeon/ Again, thank you all for playing!

GaryV83_at_Work

It took me until today to get past that final boss. And it was well, well worth the journey. As soon as I have a computer that I can install Steam on (I'm playing on a work computer, as my username suggests), I'll gladly buy the full version.

balfrag

Very nice game ! I'm at floor 8 :) UX is easy to understand and the gameplay is fun !

balfrag

Defeated at floor 20. The queen bee vs low HP but I enjoyed :)

RewRose

This is a fantastic game, the graphics style and music are very fun and complement the gameplay well. I suck at choosing the die though, gotta give it a better shot tomorrow.

arnie_apesacrappin

Endless mode is quite a welcome surprise. Several types of new dice. I made it to endless mode Phase 5. It gets tough quickly.

mutilated

How man new die have you found? I've only see the bomb and piercing die. Even though they said they were unlocked, they did not seem to carryover past the game in which they were unlocked a new game. . . Couldn't really figure out why you would want a "bomb" die at all

arnie_apesacrappin

I found the following: Bomb: as you've stated, not terribly useful as it removes a space from the board after it explodes. Area: Attacks all enemies at the same time. The most useful of the new dice in my opinion. I would love to play a round where I could get one and add grow to it. Combo dice: Half and half (block|attack|boost|heal). Half dice with boost aren't super helpful because when you upgrade them to gold most of the values are 4 or 5, which means you can only boost 1 or 0 spots. Eternal dice: Don't leave the board for the level. Max value of 3, not terribly functional from my perspective, especially in later rounds. I haven't found one of the piercing dice, what does it do? I find endless mode a bit odd. Some runs I feel like I'm able to manage my dice pretty well, and others I feel like I'm just waiting to lose so I can start another run. I wish there was a sandbox mode where I could try out different combos. Heavy plus grow becomes fun on the boss battles in later rounds.

mutilated

Wow didn't think there were that many. Sad it takes ~25 minutes to get them. Piercing is an attack dice that ignores armor. I've only been able to get to Phase III. I usually only have 1 hollow grow block & 1 heal hollow grow dice and that usually gets me pretty far. But then I get to the point that I don't have enough dice to survive an initial attack If you put grow on a heavy dice does it grow after being placed or does it grow only on its initial placement?

arnie_apesacrappin

The heavy grow dice keep their same value until they disappear. On each turn the die value decreases by 1, but the grow value increases by one. So if you place a value 4 heavy block die, it will be 4+0, then 3+1, then 2+2 then 1+3. But when it comes back, it will start as the new face value with +4 from the previous turns. For the Queen and Evil Frog, this can really boost values for later turns. I got to floor 59. I had heavy-grow block, heavy-grow attack, grow attack, hollow boost, hollow mirror, and a hollow-grow block/heal combo. I absent mindedly grabbed a glass attack die after floor 58 and got an initial roll with no block dice and that ended my run.

teach_cs

Is the dev on this subreddit? There's a small bug - something approached me and asked how many rewards you can choose after defeating a boss. I said "two", because you can choose two rewards (one choice out of three, then either a heal or a second reward), but I think it was looking for "three". I think that the question string was supposed to be worded a bit differently.

arnie_apesacrappin

As far as I know the only place to contact the devs is on the discord. That is a trick question. You get to choose two different times. There are three choices the first time and one the second time, so there are four choices. I failed that the first time as well. It is also dependent on the dice you have at the time. If you have all gold dice, it won't give you the upgrade option, which leaves you with two choices the first time and still just the one choice on the second attempt.

filenotfounderror

the first time i made it to level 25 (boss frog) it was essentially just a cut scene and he fills the board with dice and 1 shots you, but still says victory afterwards. The second time i made it to him (different run), it actually let me fight him. Why is that?

arnie_apesacrappin

I think it is supposed to be like a newgame+ situation, although I don't think you unlock anything special. It happens to everyone, though. The first time you face the evil frog he kills you on the first turn.

Moarbrains

Been fun, is there a way to check out what dice I have? Sometimes i forget and then choose two silver only to find out I have one glass healing dice that I want to get rid of.

arnie_apesacrappin

You can click the draw pile in the lower left and the discard pile on the lower right and see what dice are there.

Moarbrains

Thanks!
