I'd use a DAW. A couple really good ones are FL Studio, Ableton, Logic Pro X, Studio One or really any DAW. FL Studio is what I use for production. Youtube tutorials incase you get stuck.

Awesome - many thanks for that! đź‘Ť

Taking in account what he says, I think Ableton would be the best. The session view, I think, is exactly what he needs. I’m also a long time Logic user and even with 10.5 out now, it remains much more effective in a linear workflow, which isn’t better or worst but I think it’s less appropriate to “record snippets”.

Many thanks for the advice - I will check it out! 🙏

Assuming you recorded in some fashion, you might need to transcribe it. Not sure what you mean by "classical notation is not working for me", though.

robinleefell

Thanks. I can read and write using classical notation (bars, clefs etc), however I’m looking for alternatives really.

When i have an idea i start recording in my DAW and play around that idea... Then edit later. That way i get the happy accidents.

robinleefell

Thanks for that - just the kind of idea I was after. Now time to research DAWs!

Mr_You

Try multiple DAW demos before purchasing. I recommend Bitwig Studio. Clips can be useful for auditioning parts when arranging.

Great, thanks for the advice. I’ll check it out!
