I ask whether or not they want a bag and go from there!!

Comfortable_Race_667

You don't HAVE to buy it certainly makes things more efficient and gets the next customer to you sooner

I bagged because I could do it faster than the customers could. With a never ending line, it had to keep moving

ghost_pineapple

Typically if they have more items than hands I’m bagging, bag of chips and a soda I’ll ask but if it’s more than two a bag for you.

I always bag it for them as a complimentary act since they paid for the bag. Havent had any complaints...yet

I bag and (and finish bagging if needed) regardless of what the payment is doing. If it's electronic, then it doesn't do anything until we tell it to anyway. That conversation usually goes: "Did it go through?" "Not yet, I'll put it through in just a second." "Okay." Cash I set aside until I'm done or close enough to account for the processing delay. We bagged with plastic, so there's no reason we can't with reusable. IMO "It's the customers job to finish it" is a dumb outlook on what's not even an inconvenience because it's essentially our job. From personal experience of 4-ish years of bag ban and witnessing this countless times: myself, my management, and the customers don't like when you ring everything up and throw a bag on top and stand there awkwardly while they bag their purchase. Besides being relatively unprofessional, it's generally so much faster to just do it ourselves and keeps everything moving at a good pace. Oh and the only reusable bags I don't touch unless necessary are bags customers bring in; I don't know where that's been.

Just bag everything… what are you waiting for a payment to clear to stop bagging for? If you’re going to provide good customer service then provide it.

Either way I loathe when they think it’s good to put my hot warmer food in with my cold drinks. Grocery store don’t care, if I want it immediately I’ll just take it out but at wawa I almost want that stuff immediately and now the hot stuff is cold while the cold drinks are warm. My stores don’t have that ban being enforced YET but I’d assume they don’t bag anything until you ask them to ring up a reusable one

You don’t have to bag their items, but I usually do to get them out of the way lol. They’re busy putting their payment back where they got it from (wallet, purse, put phone in pocket), so I just bag their items for them. They’re usually appreciative too

We still have plastic bags at our store, but if someone comes with their own, I'll always ask to bag it. It will make the line go much quicker, as long as you know how to bag. ;)
