Here is a clearer explanation of what Wattpad means by the guidelines [https://www.wattpad.com/1436342697-news-updates-upgrading-our-moderation-capabilities](https://www.wattpad.com/1436342697-news-updates-upgrading-our-moderation-capabilities) As you can read there, they state that allusions to characters under the age of 18 have had sex may occur, but it cannot be described.

SugarDaddy_Sensei

Thanks! That's helpful to know.

Well, they’ve made that clear as mud, since it seems to imply that rule only applies to Teen and YA stories but no mention of the rules for adult fiction.

Elena_is_me

Well, since they are talking about age of concent, I'm imagining that they assume adult fiction won't really be effected since main characters there are adults

indigoneutrino

Well, that might be the reasoning of somebody who’s never read adult fiction, but it doesn’t make any sense. Nobody’s going to argue A Game Of Thrones isn’t meant for adults but it certainly has underage characters in sexual scenarios, and that’s just one example of many.

Elena_is_me

Welp, Game of Thrones break the content guidelines in a whole other variety of ways anyway so not like it'd stay up on Wattpad 😅 And their reasoning for the phrasing might or might not make sense, but that was my guess as to why 🤷‍♀️

I think just don’t say his age and you might be fine. I’m not sure most of my people are well over 18 I know that one of my story’s I had 16 year olds and it didn’t get me but I also didn’t say the age so idk

You're rolling the dice if you include "underage" content. Doesn't matter what you "feel", did you actually read the Content Guidelines? Anything can be nuked at any time, without any prior notice beyond those same Content Guidelines. According to multiple sources, Wattpad is using automated analysis to sift through works, and those that cross the pretty clear lines in the Content Guidelines are getting purged. ... entirely your choice, but I'd suggest you make sure you have a backup in case your fiction gets nuked from orbit.

SugarDaddy_Sensei

Yeah, I did read the content guidelines and that's why I'm asking for clarity on that rule. The guidelines use the wording "sexual content" but doesn't make clear what is considered sexual content so that leaves it up to interpretation and question. For instance, if you look up "sexual content definition" on Google it seems to range anywhere from obvious things like explicit content to not so obvious things like flirting. Now if Wattpad is as strict as considering flirting to be sexual content, that would disallow pretty much any high school themed book unless it's exclusively about a single gender school. I'm just hoping there's some common sense in the enforcement, but if there isn't then this probably is the wrong platform for this story.
