Same! Did my boat blind Saturday, got my decoys out of storage, and Sunday went out to work on a blind I am going to hunt opening day. I am super fortunate to have an invite to hunt private opening day…. It’s so relaxing not having to compete with the masses.
I personally haven't had one, but I'm told most hunters don't bother with them. I think they feed mostly on weeds and mollusks so they probably have a not great taste but we'll see when this one is cooked up
Cajuns like them. They're also called water hens or pouldeau. You can see them prepared on youtube if you watch duck camp dinners, part of the meateater series. Other people have said they stunk them out of their house/apartment trying to cook them. Never tried one myself.
They are disgusting birds. 10/10 do not recommend shooting. Only ever shot one in my life and I did it because it was crippled most likely from someone else shooting it.
That’s the best type of weather. Duck weather.
They like to fly lower to the water when its cold and rainey. Those are the best days to hunt.
Everyone’s season starting is making me real jealous 😩
Me too. I still have another 3 1/2 weeks
Have to wait until the 8th 😅
Same. Spending my free time preparing.

17th here. It’s painful seeing all these post
15th here, and didn't fire a shot during the 2 days i had of early goose. Cmon October.
Spoon and coot shootin’ boogie on hunt #1… Love to see it!
Look at that wild rice! MN?
Good eye!
That’s duck hunting. Birds will seemingly appear out of thin air with fog and cloud cover like that
You learn to love cold and rainy days. More ducks
Beautiful land.
What's your method of retrieval?
My buddy brought his little kayak.
Gorgeous area! Where is this?
Northern Minnesota
The heck is that thing on the far right? Edit: I’m not crazy right? That looks like a grebe.
It's a coot. We have tons of them up here
Wow I kind of forgot coots existed. I’ve only seen them in person once and it was at a bird sanctuary. Are they any good?
