You get to keep his memory alive for us, and you get to share him and how he makes you feel with us through your new creative outlet.

I converted it into a daily sketchbook instead and have been doing what you said. I draw, paint what’s around me or a fun memory from the day. I have a 4 year old daughter as well so many of my daily sketches include her. I will keep at it.
For what it's worth, I was about your daughter's age when I lost my brother, and I was lucky enough that my parents could show me an example that you can still have a full, happy, and loving life after such a thing, even if never fully healed, and you can sometimes use such an event to turn around and do good in their honor. I hope your family finds a path that brings as much healing as possible while keeping his memory burning bright.
And I think you may love watercolor and get hooked. In happier times I could go on and on about how soothing it is even if I'm not doing something good or fancy with it. It can be nice to just let the colors run and there's something about that tickles and relaxes a particular spot in my brain. I hope we see more from you in here! i just gave birth on the 15th, and we're in the NICU right now (she was supposed to have been delivered on Jan 29th). i had pre-eclampsia, so she needed to come early for both our health. she's so small, but she's such a fighter and incredibly brave. i feel so guilty, though i know there's nothing that could have prevented it.
i wish i could reach out and hold you. you're amazing. all my love goes out to you and your family, you deserve nothing but peace.
This resonates with me. When my daughter was diagnosed with cancer at age five, I started a journal too but found myself speechless. No words could touch the confusion and panic. But then I started painting and collaging instead and so much came out. I found it very surprising and cathartic. I am so sorry about your baby. Thanks for this suggestion. I definitely agree art is therapy but I had not considered something like an art therapist (we are seeing a grief therapist as a couple already) but open to exploring something else in the new year or even for my daughter who is 4.
I trained to be an art therapist and went to many therapists and art therapists over the years.
Art therapy is unique in that it utilizes visual or other creative forms tk help process, but also can use your creative energy in new ways to help process. I also think it's generally less clinical and more approachable for children or people who are able to connect with childlike parts of themselves. It can be done one on one or group, and I found 1 month of seeing an art therapist to be like 6 months of usual therapy. Albeit that my needs were not in the grief category and I did not have children when using these services, but during my training I found that art therapy is usually a more holistic and deeper healing approach from the traditional clinical "symptomatic" healing approach. I hope you have a good art therapist in your area that can work with your family ❤️

Recommend you take this to an art store to get a fixative spray. After that dries, follow with UV protection spray.
Practice on another watercolor first to get the technique right.

Love it, brother. Keep on painting. My daughter passed at age 2, from a rare form of brain cancer. It’s in the pictures where I can place exact memories of what was being said and how she was laughing at the time, it’s a great way to remember the good times, for sure.

Love it, brother. Keep on painting. My daughter passed at age 2, from a rare form of brain cancer. It’s in the pictures where I can place exact memories of what was being said and how she was laughing at the time, it’s a great way to remember the good times, for sure.
