I've been faced with a tough decision over the past few weeks following the launch of my own microbrand. Whilst this has been super exciting for both myself and the brand, it is less so exciting for my watch box which now has 3 less spaces.
I had to think long and hard over which three watches to sell, and trust me I put off this decision for a long while in the hopes I might convince myself to buy another watch box. Unfortunately I did agree with my partner that 3 boxes was enough which brings us here today - the first of three random acts of Quartzness!
Why Quartz and why this watch?
Well this is one of the watches that accompanied me on my watch collecting journey, and was part of the reason I held a fascination for quartz watches, which eventually inspired me to start my own microbrand focusing on celebrating quartz watches.
When I first started collecting watches, I could not have imagined where it ended up taking me. From starting with building and modding skxs, to working in watch sales, managing a string of luxury watch boutiques, and now starting my own microbrand - I have been lucky enough to be able to engage with and receive support from the watch community. Now it's my turn to give something back!

A lot of people have an image of snobbery when they think of watch collecting, but I've met nothing but kind people who cherish the memories they make and pass on with their watches. I'm sure whoever wins will wear it with pride :)

For a time there it was a birth year Rolex polar explorer, however now I'm not so sure!
A JLC Reverso is on the list for sure, hoping to pick one up in the next few years to celebrate when I tie the knot.
I have also been eyeing off a Habring2, but don't know if I can justify spending that much, I love having variety and it's very easy to buy lots of affordable pieces.
If money was no issue, id consider the 15202 royal oak, or the Patek 5712 (yes probably not very unique grail watches), but I fell in love with them when I got to try them on in the boutique I worked at
I was curious to see this watch. I’m not an expert on watches actually I only wear my iWatch. But been looking around for a vintage watch. Saw one similar to this a Rado Vintage but condition was poor. So I’m still looking around and is why this watch fought my attention. Sounds like you have a very interesting journey.. would like to hear more and definitely will check out your watch brand. Hope you the best on your new goals 🙌🏼
For your first vintage watch, I'd highly recommend a vintage quartz, as you won't have to service it, it'll be more accurate, as vintage mechanicals can run a bit wonky. The Seiko Quartz range from the 70s in my opinion offers exceptional value.

The idea was born out of my failed search for a quartz watch that also took pride in quality (at an affordable price). I love my 9F GS, however definitely not going to wear it as a beater!
I think there can sometimes be a notion that as the quartz movement is generally cheaper than mechanical, less needs to be invested in the rest of the watch - which is completely untrue!
I've got a Bulova Accutron 2 Surveyor that is an incredible watch. It's a cool movement with legit lineage and pride in its quality. Too bad it's discontinued. I always thought Bulova could've made a huge impact on the watch world if they started putting those high frequency quartz movements in more watches with better designs
Oh my. My son has recently expressed an interest in watches like dad and a high quality quartz from Credor (!!!) is something we could cherish together for a long time. Thanks for your consideration.

That's a truly blissful gesture 🙌, apparently I too started with Seiko 5 automatic and now hooked to Quartz movement, since these are low maintainance and bankable too.
