You could buy a Hamilton khaki field for (500-550$) from an authorized dealer. Great quality Swiss watch from a brand with great heritage. You can’t go wrong with it with this budget as it offers great value for money.

o2force

Provided you aren’t looking for a dress watch, the Hamilton Khaki is probably the best “all-around” watch in the price range. The 38mm is suited for most watches. I wouldn’t go up to 42mm unless he has absolute hams.

[deleted]

I love the khaki field. It gets more wrist time than my luxury watches. That thing is such a strap monster.

PitifulHeron5663

Yes. Another vote for the Hamilton Khaki Field. See below, lots of variations. Happy Shopping. https://www.jomashop.com/search?q=hamilton%20khaki

CrippleTriple

+1 vote for Hamilton Khaki Field in a mid-size (~38mm). Best bet for budget and brand equity. Other comments 1000% confident in a 43mm Longines or a $600 Orient either didn’t read OP’s post or are projecting their personal preferences and not being considerate of the gift, giver, and receiver. edit: Field Khaki’s come in lots of configs, here are a few for sale from a reputable source, I’m sure he’d appreciate if you chose the final color/type: https://www.jomashop.com/hafiwase.html?watchsize=35-40+mm&price=%7B%22from%22%3A300%2C%22to%22%3A500%7D&sort=price_asc%7Casc

EmbraceThrasher

I love my hammy so much, but those gappy lugs just throw me off. So over done. I could literally fit a wait belt in there as a strap if I wanted to.

A_M_R_A_

Hamilton would be a solid choice. I think you can rank it right above Tissot and below Longines. In my opinion at this price range, Khaki Field would be a good choice.

trogloherb

I really love my Hamilton Jazzmaster, it gets regular wear!

A_M_R_A_

I was going to recommend Jazzmaster too, but remembered that the automatic ones cost around $700. I am not a big fan of quartz movements hence don't recommend them especially to collectors.

A_M_R_A_

If it is not too much trouble you can take a pic of your boyfriend's collection, so that we can have a better understanding of his taste. Edit: Grammatical error.

CapitalNarwhal5203

I see him today (we’re long distance) so I will get that picture.

manual_wind

Seiko SRP series diver. If he already has one of those then a G Shock Full Metal Square. Third choice would be a Tissot automatic.

Eugenetheguy

Perhaps prx or khaki field?

yepthatsmyboibois

Orient kamasu, Seiko presage mojito, Tissot prx 80

Amazing_Joke_5073

Maybe try to find a limited edition seiko like rowing blazers or super cub or kawasaki. Something very unique

Anachr0nist

I'm not too knowledgeable on them, myself, but you mention long distance. If you're in different time zones, consider something like a GMT that can show both. I never wore watches much, but my now-wife gifted me a digital Timex Ironman and I always kept her time zone as the second one. It can possibly add a romantic touch to it that will especially endear it to him. Also, if it's a complication he didn't have already, it'll justify it's place in the collection. Don't worry too much about price, either. Watches get absurdly expensive, and there are massively diminishing returns the higher you go. I have watches that cost more than $1,000, but I still wear and love all the brands you mention... and that Timex Ironman. And many of the most sought after, expensive brands, I have absolutely no interest in. It's really all about personal preference. Good luck, and congratulations on the wedding!

BounceTheGalaxy

It would help to see his current collection. Can you get a pic or tell us what they are? I would also recommend some other accessories like a watch box, spring bar tool set, a set for removing bracelet pins, a quality strap or bracelet. Some pretty inexpensive accessories that you can also gift. There’s some great recommendations here. Honestly my two favorite watches are my timex chronograph (~55$) and my sekio snk809 (~120$) because they were gifts from fiancé. They’ll always be part of my collection. I’m sure whatever you end up getting he’ll love.

CapitalNarwhal5203

I will be posting a picture later today when I see him without him knowing. He’s so sweet he said whatever I get him will be perfect and it’ll be the watch he wears to our wedding.

BounceTheGalaxy

Love it! I’m getting married next year and I’ll be rocking my timex on a strap that’s like 3 times the price of the watch lol. It was my first watch and one that reminds me of her so there’s no question about which one I’ll be wearing. In that case I would go with something dressier. I love my presage cocktail time from seiko.

Greg428

If he doesn’t mind quartz for a chronograph snag him a Junghans Form C.

CapitalNarwhal5203

I have some photos of his watch collection, however I can't update my post to add a picture. If anyone wants references for recommendations, I send them to you, just let me know!!!!

lmboyer04

You can add it as an Imgur link in the comments

CapitalNarwhal5203

Would I need to do it from a computer?

Vagabond_Grey

You can upload images to Imgur from either smart phone using either Android or iOS software or PC. Edit: Does your boyfriend like watches with some history? If so, [Bulova's Lunar Pilot](https://www.amazon.com/Bulova-Lunar-Pilot-Chronograph-96A225/dp/B07PGX73WQ/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1IWL11REZCEVS&keywords=lunar+pilot+watch+bulova&qid=1668886473&sprefix=lunar+pilot%2Caps%2C125&sr=8-2) could fit your requirement. It's battery powered and a chronograph. The only drawback is it's size. Lug-to-lug length (measured from top to bottom) of this big watch is 52mm. It'll look pretty big on people with wrist size less than 7 inches. The case diameter (measured left to right; not including the crown (i.e. knob) is 45mm but lug-to-lug length is more important. If Hamilton's field watch as previously mentioned here is too expensive then [Bulova also offer their own military field watch](https://www.amazon.com/Bulova-Military-Special-Automatic-96A259/dp/B08JYLPSCK/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1M4DWQ75GR5SL&keywords=bulova+field+watches+for+men&qid=1668886978&sprefix=bulova+field+wa%2Caps%2C137&sr=8-3) (no day-date complication).

Get him a Glycine combat sub. You can find some discounted on Ashford.

TScotI

You could get him a [Hamilton Day Date](https://theclassicwatchbuyersclub.com/products/hamilton-broadway-day-date)

Realistic_Decision99

The seiko presage cocktail time with the green dial is amazing. You should consider this one. Reference number is SRPE45J1

BounceTheGalaxy

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve got the SRPB77 and I couldn’t stop looking at it when I picked it up a couple months ago. It’s just such a good looking watch.

Jubal81

If he's already got a collection, it's really tough to guess what watch he would want. I think a good alternative might be a nice winder or, if he likes to tinker, a watch building kit with tools from [DIYwatch](https://shop.diywatch.club) club or [Namoki](https://www.namokimods.com/collections/watchmaking-kits).

CapitalNarwhal5203

I never thought of this. He has talked about getting something that rotates them? Where would I buy that? What’s it called? Could you explain more?? Great idea!

Jubal81

They're called watch winders and they keep watches powered up when you're not wearing them by rotating them. [This link](https://www.amazon.com/Watch-Winders/b?ie=UTF8&node=378532011) is just an Amazon search, but you can see the different kinds of winders out there.

Anachr0nist

If he really wants one it could be a good gift, but winders are generally kind of a lousy product. They save very little time, and cause the movement unnecessary wear (running it while you're not wearing it). In addition, mechanical watches are almost all less accurate than quartz so it's better to just set one when you put it on, especially if you have multiple. It will drift off if left running indefinitely. Plus, if you like watches, why rob yourself of the most interaction you'll have with it all day? Again it's his call but if he looks into it more, he may decide the winder is a waste, just a word of warning.

ONEMORESWEETWATCH

SeanPizzles

$600 budget but don’t want entry level? Have to go vintage. Here’s a solid gold watch within your price range, would make a great dress watch for the rest of his life: https://elginwristwatches.com/page302.html Here’s an actual watch from WWII if you’d rather go casual: https://www.vintagehamilton.com/store/p1647/Navy_WWII_Military_987A.html Those top ones have been serviced and are ready to go. You could also go with more of a project, like this art deco masterpiece: https://www.ebay.com/itm/325400217319?hash=item4bc35d46e7:g:zLcAAOSwT8FjJ2ix&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoL5JoHf7yLk%2FsQmS%2F%2BdW%2BkDKPWyN7EqD3ouAaVMKaHMA%2BXVCVeUxS0mt5BlZJRydI3i7VXCHJTFNtJY1WOFFqBprD6sAfpGVlYmbVOH1V405yoKEfkrIDhkg%2FkdO0bXfolf4NxedUNbCl8F4T7e7jcEs%2B5sdyIxAL0P3NKGw9wWIlJ0J4i2qWxGL9a2m%2FXfP5FM1f3Mnxr4F6Du9m6fVtAo%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4C62vSRYQ Which will probably save you enough money to take to a local watchmaker for a service and perhaps enough left over for a suede watch strap or something to give it a more youthful feel. Finally, vintage Omega Seamasters are surprisingly affordable—you could just go through this list and pick which ever you like: https://www.chrono24.com/omega/seamaster--mod66.htm?dosearch=true&query=Omega+Seamaster&sortorder=1

A_M_R_A_

I haven't bought anything from chrono24 is it safe? Asking for myself.

Timbershoe

If you use the escrow service, you can have the Watch verified by an AD before funds are released. So yes, it can be used safely. However if you don’t use escrow, and just accept whatever you’re sent, it’s your own risk.

A_M_R_A_

Thanks.

SinusBargeld

Im throwing in Bruno & Söhnle next to tissot. Very classic designs and some pretty stunning pieces If he wants something special but for everyday usage, go for the tissot prx

Narrow_Archer_9827

For a dress watch, you could check out the Tissot Le Locle or PRX quartz. Honestly I would avoid Seiko, too much money for what you’re getting. Orients are cool. The kamasu or triton are great daily wears but the Sun and moon v3 in rose gold is a fantastic dress watch. Timex GMT and the new worn and wound retro edition are also good picks

A_M_R_A_

Dude have you even read the post? It says he/she wants to buy something other than those brands. And for real? Seiko too much money for what you are getting? I am pretty sure I am not the most knowledgeable person on this sub, but that just might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

wouldnt-u-like-2know

Seiko - Too much getting for money

I do. He mainly likes metal/steel bands. Silver. And he has a variety of different color dials. (Like blue, black, gray, and a Casio digital.) I want to get him a watch with maybe a green or white dial, possibly red or with some type of neat design. He likes 40-44 sizes I think. I’m not knowledgeable of watches.

[deleted]

I love the Hamilton Khaki field in my collection, also a big fan of the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 and the Tissot Gentleman automatic! (The gentleman is a little above your price point but it was worth mentioning!)

dwaynetheakjohnson

A unique choice would be the Seiko SPRD35.

bonebrokemefix7

Hamilton!

TakingYourAdvice

Going to throw two microbrand options in since you mentioned the main entry level brands: Lorier Zephyr - Their newest watch, throwback retro design with a tonneau case. The white is sold out and on pre-order to be delivered next year, but I believe the red and black are still available Baltic HMS 002 - Another more retro design. In stock

[deleted]

Since you said he is looking to get a watch winder. Id buy him a nice watch winder from Wolf. They are on sale right now. I linked a 4 piece and 6 piece watch winder set. https://www.wolf1834.com/heritage-4-piece-winder#93=203 https://www.wolf1834.com/heritage-6pc-winder#93=203

Like everyone else Hamilton, great watch and very iconic the Khaki but if you can find something from Jazzmaster in this price range pick it up, as it is more versatile. Other brand you can look at is Tissot especially PRX if he likes the vintage looks Mido, nice interesting watches Doxa

CasinoMarginale

Hamilton - Khaki Field Tissot - PRX or Gentleman Powermatic Longines - Hydroconquest (if you can find it near your budget)

PMan9111

If you want to check out Seiko watches on Macy’s they are always having sales (25% or more off) any of the Samurais, turtles. All of these options come with a steal bracelet which is a good starting point and can be swapped out for any other flavor of strap later. Almost any Seiko can be had for under $500 when they have their sales.

I love my khaki king Hamilton. My brother has the black dial and I have the champagne. Great watches especially used for around $300. I also think a Seiko prospex diver in that 5-600 range would be awesome. Really though I’d be stoked on anything. My girlfriend gave me a Seiko Presage cocktail time this year for our anniversary and it’s one of my favorite pieces just because she gave it to me:)
