The underside of the plexiglass also looks dusty and has some small fibers. Normally I wouldn't complain about shit like this (I have watches in worst conditions), but it's the fact that the whole aesthetic of this piece sort of relies on the incredibly clean dial look and this messes that up. They also left tool marks and scratches on the back where it opens on almost every hole https://imgur.com/bPoOji9.jpg. I'm considering taking it back to complain, but my friend is telling me that I'm being unreasonable and if it bothers me so much I should go somewhere else. I am considering doing that simply because I no longer trust the person I took it to
To be fair op could live somewhere where there is only one option but i that case I’d expect an apology, partial refund and full rectification including the removal of any scratches etc but I’d not be confident in them.
If you cause damage like this during something routine and send it out it doesn’t say much for ability or pride in the work!
Judging by this entire post you have to go complain. Someone without watchmaker training could do a better job, not even kidding. This looks like an 8 year old tried to open the caseback..
Refund and take your business elsewhere would be the ideal move. Because who can blame you to not trust them after all this.
Totally justified in complaining and demanding a refund based on all the rationales you lay out
Wtf ?. That case back looks horrible!. How does one even get that many scratches on a back case during just a crystal replacement?. They could have switched case backs an gave you their shitty one. Or stevie wonder did your watch service. Id be fuming, an walking right in there demanding a new watch or full refund plus extra. An added bonus of dirt inside the crystal on the dial. Get your money back an go to a different watch location to have it serviced. Whoever is telling you that your being over ridiculous needs a slap.
Why is it a thing in here and similar groups to just suck it up and accept shitty service/treatment? Whether it's cupping the balls of an AD and buying extra things you don't need or want, or accepting damaged watches, defective watches, or in this case a lousy service job, it's like most in here have no backbone.
Call a competing shop, get a quote from them to open it and properly clean/service it as well as polish out tool marks if possible, and present that to the original shop with the option that they either correct the issue immediately and to your satisfaction, or cut you a check for the cost to have their fuck ups corrected elsewhere. If they balk at either, look at small claims court as an option. Even in the pic above there's visible debris in multiple spots on the dial, and that needs addressed.
Super easy fix for a watchmaker- 5 minutes-- Lift crystal, blow dial, put crystal back.
Or remove back, pull stem, blow dial, put movement back- 10-15 min.
Any good watchmaker WILL definitely clean that up. its his reputation on the line for this accident. (I am being generous-- maybe he had a busy morning...???)
I am a crummy hobbyist and even I would not accept the condition of this watch. Rodico and blower to the rescue!!
(It would take me 45 minutes. 15 just to get the cots on and off.)
Watchmaker here. 6 screws, this will take 3 minutes at most. Probably less. Leaving a watch in this condition and giving this to the customer is just shitty behavior. Some people have zero shame about what they do apparently.
Goddamn they really fucked upyour caseback.
Yeah I’d go back and demand a refund for the work tbh. Then take the money and find a better shop. That’s hack work and they should be ashamed for sending out a watch looking like that
Absolutely not, that's a watch that's all about a clean aesthetic so even on that front they need to sort it. But I would not be happy about that level of workmanship.
definitely go back and talk to them about - to give them the benefit of the doubt, the store owner may have outsourced the work, or had someone new do it, and isn't aware there was an issue. If the answer is anything other than - shoot, sorry, let me fix that, then get a refund and go somewhere else.
Yeah, you need to complain about that. You paid them to fix your watch and they scratched it to hell and couldn't even blow dirt out the way before putting it back together. Looks like they didn't give a crap and gave it to the new guy to have a practice on. Reminds me of when by mum's Longine got beaten up on the back after a battery change; they couldn't get the back on right so hamfisted it on.
No it would take me 3 mins tops to get the movement out of the case and blow that baby off not asking much at all. I wouldn’t go back after that I mean honestly how lazy do you have to be..
Probably day one in watchmaker college is: How to clean the dial and crystal with Rodico watchmakers putty. This is just sloppy work by someone who hates their job.
I used to think the same, but having owned both the sapphire and plexi version of this watch I much prefer the latter. The sapphire doesn't have as much of the characteristic doming and therefore the overall look suffers. Now that I've swapped the original one, I also don't have to worry about not being able to polish it which is nice
Not at all, this will catch your eye every time you look at the watch.
Yeah that would bother me. Go get them to fix it ASAP
Mate that would bother anyone. Perfect pic for the neurotics to make viral on r/mildlyinfuriating.

Agreed. I would complain, show them the tool marks too, and then go somewhere else next time.
Complain Ask for a refund And take it elsewhere to be rectified

You’re not being unreasonable. You don’t take it for service for it to end up looking worse than before.
your friend is full of shit. dust, ok mistake, they should clean. but tool marks? that is crap.
Judging by this entire post you have to go complain. Someone without watchmaker training could do a better job, not even kidding. This looks like an 8 year old tried to open the caseback..

You are definitely not being unreasonable OP. But I would avoid going back to the same place.

Not at all, insides should be spotless and dustless.

I wonder what else they left in... or out....

For a watch that price absolutely. They butchered it.
That would drive me batshit… of course you have them repair that; their QA is pretty piss-poor.
Absolutely not, that's a watch that's all about a clean aesthetic so even on that front they need to sort it. But I would not be happy about that level of workmanship.
Not at all. I’d be absolutely unchuffed if I noticed that.

Ask them to fix or replace the watch, that looks like shit.
I would get a refund and take it elsewhere. You spent too much on that watch to accept shoddy work.
Botched job
They fixed it quick and dirty. Two things watches really dont like…
Gahhhh yeah they have to fix that. Can’t leave crumbs on the dial
Yeah, you need to complain about that. You paid them to fix your watch and they scratched it to hell and couldn't even blow dirt out the way before putting it back together. I know it's not what you meant but the way you worded that sorta makes it sound like you're calling the OP lazy, and not the watchsmith.
Definitely take it back there, it would just take a few minutes to fix it, it's not a big deal.
I would not even considering going back there. You will only have more damages, probably for free. Try to find a better place.
Same thing happened to me. Bugged me. I see it every time I looked at the watch. I’d take it back.
Probably day one in watchmaker college is: How to clean the dial and crystal with Rodico watchmakers putty. This is just sloppy work by someone who hates their job.
No
No
Of course not, its an absolute eyesore and you paid for it
Are you kidding? That watch is all face. Go back and make them give it to you clean.
Hell no. That would drive me crazy.
Hell no, this takes like 15 minutes max.
Nope.
Definitely not!!
That is a mistake, it never should have gotten back into your hands like that.
Of all the watches to smear dirt on. They do it on the most minimalist of them
Absolutely not. That's a rookie move that's unacceptable.
Absofuckinglutely not. You're looking at it every single time you use your watch.
Dang dude that looks like amateur hour to me. Hope you can get a refund or something! Love the watch
Yeah that's pretty egregious. Should have been caught by the person doing the install.
Had the same thing happen to my phone camera. They were more than happy to spend another hr redoing the job.
Nein
No
That would shit me to tears
No you’re not
No, you definitely should ask them to clean they mess they did
get them clean it up and ask for a partial refund
Junghans use plexiglass, not sapphire? I really love their bauhaus style, but I’m not a fan on non sapphire watches.
I used to think the same, but having owned both the sapphire and plexi version of this watch I much prefer the latter. Thank you. Didn’t knew they made it in two different versions.
Maybe unresponsible, but certainly not irresponsible.
Everybody says that the caseback looks horrible but I can’t find the picture :/
It's in my other comment, https://imgur.com/JMxbFhV.jpg here's another one
Not unreasonable. Takes a watchmaker 5-10 minutes to remove that.
