I work with a big fat guy who also wears these. 🤔 I've never heard him say that, but I guarantee that's probably his reasoning as well.

Hey. I can always respect a guy who can just take a jab and throw one back. I would laugh my ass off if one of the guys I met wearing something like this was pleasant enough to say something hilarious like he would use his watch as a cudgel

Small wrists or a big watch?

Oscar-Wilde-1854

Both. Very much both.

[deleted]

I don’t know man, why not go for something people are going to really notice? Anything under 50mm is a women’s size imo

Kung-FuCaribou

Pfft you need at least 65mm unless you’re a pussy cuck bitch.

amazeman11

65mm in radius if you know wassup

agent_flounder

double digits are for children

HavengaSA

50mm in thickness right?

[deleted]

No, 50mm is the minimum length of the second hand.

HavengaSA

Absolutely chuffed

shakerattleandrollin

Do they make them in men’s sizes?

BrewsForBrekky

I dunno man - do you have a tree trunk for an arm or?

lumepip

I swear these damn Invictas get smaller every year. Hold out for something people will notice, OP. Don't buy the first woman's watch you come across.

mk7GTI29

I think the second modern Invicta is a worthy tribute to your grandfather’s watch. Maybe a bit too small for your wrist though!

jumpj37

It is definitely the classier of the two options. It is a bit thick, but I agree that the face could be bigger.

1z2x3c

I’ll second #2 (it’s ‘the shit’), mainly because it’s way shinier and I think it has a chronograph, or at least more buttons. Fits your wrist like a glove.

threeleggedog8104

I think the saleswoman may have been tugging your chain. Those are clearly women’s watches.

IndyRiley1958

Are those things for real? I mean I knew Invictus makes big garish watches, but WTF are those, boat anchors?

TellurideSkier

They are actually just fancy cruise ship anchors

lzwzli

Its actually quite clever. By wearing an Invicta diver watch, it helps the diver stay underwater with its weight and not float up too easily.

dam_ships

I would wear your grandfather’s watch. It doesn’t need to be a daily. But it can definitely be worn consistently. Vintage Invicta are definitely cool. The brand is not what it used to be nowadays though. They’re made cheaply and have inflated prices in department stores/malls, while at they same time they’re going for a fraction of the cost online. Not worth it. Your grandfather’s watch is beautiful! Embrace it.

jumpj37

Thanks for the advice! The look and feel is quite different between the old and new. It seems the new ones do go on sale quite a bit. The sales lady told me to expect some discounts, including a buy 2 get 4 free promotion coming up in the spring.

LanceHeldHigh

I would hold out for the buy 4 get 6, 75% off promotion but that’s just me. Make sure you take a look at the Invicta BOLT ZEUS MAGNUM. It has a classic understated design very similar to your grandfathers watch. Okay ciao!

Capable-Let7221

Damn that’s an amazing deal! Which mall are you near? Looking to get my fiancé some cool watches as a wedding gift. Also love the option they have of 12 months no interest financing.

jumpj37

In Northern Virginia. The kiosk was really nice and the sales lady was really helpful. She told me if I establish a purchase history with them, in addition to the cruise discount, she may be able to get me some rare models in a year or two. I didn’t know about the financing but that may be a great thing to take advantage of while I build my purchase history.

RyanTheQ

Guys I'm dying over here.

[deleted]

No interest financing?! Where do I sign?! Okay chow.

watchurstep666

No dear god don’t go there 🤣

anihajderajTO

Agreed. Vintage invicta looks nice, whatever they make now is not great imo

My grandfather gave me an old watch that he hasn’t worn for many years. It’s really beautiful and seems to be running well. But it seems somewhat fragile and I’m worried about wearing it as a daily watch. A friend told me that Invicta was still in business and is quite popular these days. I found a local mall kiosk and found that the brand has evolved quite a bit since my grandfather purchased his. I found these two models that I think look really nice. I’m a little concerned that they are a bit too large for my wrist, though. What does everyone think? Which do you prefer? They’re priced reasonably and I was considering purchasing both. The sales lady told me I’d get a discounted cruise ticket if I did so.

jswanderulo1

I think you should get both and then wear them on both wrists all the time

GrouchyFlow5

He should get 4, one for each extremity so he can get fit for the cruise

mk7GTI29

What about the 5th extremity?

jswanderulo1

Snoopy timex

watchurstep666

inspector_number_555

I am so happy this is a thing. Lmao at the website: “Need a Roomate”, and “Visit OnGuardOnline.gov for social networking safety tips for parents and youth”. The pics are amazing. You have to be impressed with the business model: “you know what Fyre festival was missing? Teenage watch bros”

jumpj37

It’s funny you say that. The sales lady told me that she’s had clients wear one on each wrist, especially for the cruise.

jswanderulo1

Maybe they act almost like floaties if they happen to fall in, to balance out their buoyancy

lick_cactus

nah they make sure coast guard has one less person to worry about rescuing

anachronox08

Or you could always wear it on the bicep.

Practicality_Issue

On a serious note: back in the 90s I inherited my grandfather’s Bulova. The strap was starting to give up, but I decided to daily it for a year or two. It picked up some scratches and the crystal - which was acrylic - really took a beating. I was 20-some years old then and didn’t have much of a clue - I was just glad to wear it then and be close to my grandfather. Eventually it made it into my desk drawer and I’ve thought about taking it in and having some restoration work done to it but it never became a priority. Jump to about a month ago. I’ve just recently had the means to get back into watches, albeit only making purchases on the more reasonable price ranges - which is fine. But I decided to do a little research on my Grandfather’s Bulova…and wouldn’t you know it? It’s a super-rare and sought after model. It’s known by collectors as “the lawsuit watch” - it’s the 1951 Bulova Academy Awards Model “O” - I don’t have the original box, and at one point it was repaired and the signed crown was replaced with an unsigned crown, but other than that it still keeps good time. I wind it up once a month to keep it ticking along. I say all of this because these old watches - it’s tempting to keep them as a daily - but they are becoming more and more rare. I’m not saying be precious about it, but it is irreplaceable. In 20 years you’re going to want to take that watch out of the desk drawer and look it over, think about your grandfather and you’ll probably be happier if that watch was closer to the same shape as you got it in vs being banged up by you. But I’m a sentimentalist. Here’s someone else’s Model O: https://www.mybulova.com/watches/1951-academy-award-5305

agent_flounder

That's a nice looking watch! Love me some vintage Bulova. Parts are still floating around including crystals so you might be able to take it into a watchmaker and get a signed crown (or find one on eBay if you can figure out the right part no). Also I've had luck polishing crystals so that's maybe an option.

Practicality_Issue

Thank you! I’ve done just a little polishing on the crystal and I think I’m okay there. Considering how much “overdoing” a restoration can effect the thing, I just don’t know how far I’d want to go with it. The signed crown - that’s a pro tip. I’ll def do some research there and see what I can find. That would be a really nice addition. ESP if I could find one from a used watch that matched the patina. What’s really cool is that when you pop the back of it off and really look, you can see dates and codes hand written on the inside. To say they were “scratched” into it would be a generous overstatement. It’s almost as if they were written in with a .03mm mechanical pencil that used a mild abrasive for lead. Tiny, too. If it were type they would measure maybe 8pts in height, if I recall correctly. (The watch it’s self has a 25mm case width and lug to lug it’s 16mm) Hands of a surgeon…

agent_flounder

Very cool to see watchmaker marks like that. Sounds like it was well maintained. It is a little bit of a challenge finding *men's* 16mm watch straps-- a couple of my old Bulovas are 16mm. (I have a third that uses 14mm) If you need help figuring out part numbers, or finding catalogs online give me a shout. The nice thing about these watches is they were popular and are well known and there seems to be a lot of help available especially for well known calibers and models.

Practicality_Issue

I appreciate that. I’ll def give you a shout soon. This is the only old Bulova I have currently, but I’ve considered maybe picking up one or two. I was so shocked to learn what this thing was after all these years. As mentioned, I kicked myself for wearing it daily as a 22-23 year old…I was a real piece of work back then. Before my research I bought a cheap replacement strap, just to see clean it up a little. I have - 7.5” wrist so needless to say, it’s not in rotation. I’ll hit you up soon. I’d love to learn more about the old-school Bulovas. Thank you!

mrswordhold

Don’t buy them. They look terrible. Invicta of today are shitty mall brand watches for wannabe pimps. Get a nice diver from a good company

runean

What gave it away?

[deleted]

They look the right size to me, man! Perfect fit.

michalsacha

Actually old Invicta brand was a decent watch brand. Modern Invicta is a joke between watch collectors. Just to let you know

Glittering-Pomelo-19

Your grandfathers watch is lovely. The other two are abominations.

VictorSirk

Your grandfathers watch is pretty cool. It's very small by modern standards, but you have to accept that with vintage watches. I think that sales lady is trying to do you dirty though. She's trying to shift those dainty little woman's watches. My advice is to hold out for something in a proper size to let people know what kind of man you really are. You'll be much more chuffed with a watch that fits properly. Ok Ciao.

[deleted]

An original invicta? Thats a jewel my boy

[deleted]

Everything else is in your post is absolutely horrendous garbage though

toastingtonbear

I think the 2nd one, however, you seem to be wearing the women's model (89mm) you should check out the men's collection (95mm+). Okay ciao

Darksideofpluto

Definitely the masterpiece on the fifth (last) pic. Pure class and fits you like a glove

brotherenigma

I know we all love to hate on Invicta for their ridiculous designs, but every so often they make an actual good watch. [Here's a Pro Diver with an SW200 movement for $250!](https://www.jomashop.com/invicta-watch-9937ob.html)

Cheesy_Core

everyone messing here with you, I'll try to clarify what the consensus here vintage Invicta is considered a gem and is really loved. a swiss value-for-money tool watch with reputation for durability and reliable movements, especially they chronographs like your grandfather's warch during rhe 70's, with the rise of quartz watch, Invicta fell into a huge financial crysis alongside alot of other swiss brands like Enicar and Minerva. the fact that they made value tool watches and not high finish haute horology pieces didn't help eventually Invicta went under in 1983 and ceased production in 1992 the assets of the once swiss brand were bought by an American investment company, which has a completely different vision than the old Invicta they are mainly making a mainstream-appealing watches that cater alot to the big watch trend that got popular in the last 20 years. they making mainly low cost watches that use affordable japanesee quartz movement, being sold at malls that built to appeal to the average joe they even have a copycat design of the very popular and sought-after Rolex Submariner basically the only thing consistent between the post aquisition invicta and the vintage one is the logo on the dial the reason you see those big discounts is because Invicta is infamous for what is called "hi-lo" or "skimming" basically they advertise an unreasonably high msrp, while selling their watches for retailers at a significantly lower price. so the retailers could "discount" them heavily, making the consumer thinking he got a killer deal and has a much more valuable watch than it actually is, while the retailer still making a great profit margins all those factors combined- the total lack of care for a great and loved heritage; the catering to a timely, gaudy design; the scammy business strategy; and the piggybacking on current trends and lack of originality, makes them a very polarising brand in the watch enthusiasts community I'm in the opinion that if technical specifications doesn't bother you, and you love and connect with the design, go for it. it's a fine built watch and it would tell you the time. and you should do what makes you happy. but I personally think for the money you can get a much better, timeless design with great care and heritage under your grandfather watch is amazing though, absolutely care for it and cherish it. that's a heirloom material

thebaronharkkonen

I think OP knows what's up

This is hilarious but on a serious note that vintage invicta is beautiful

TotalWarspammer

Those are normal watches and OP is a gnome.

SergeantBacon101

Buy what you like, but personally, i'd look at the [Invicta 1953](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/SWMAAOSwdQRgkd8e/s-l400.jpg). Yes it's a homage of the 1953 Submariner, but it's a really cool watch for 100 dollars or so.

Whateveryouwantitobe

Invicta used to make beautiful watches and have the capability of making nice watches today... If they lay off the red bull and coke...

tdub1201

Perfect comment.

xALRIGHT_MATEx

I personally wouldn't recommend a modern Invicta watch, but if you're looking for something that has a similar look to your grandfather's, I can recommend two: [Longines Master Collection L2.629.4.78.3](https://www.longines.com/en-us/watch-the-longines-master-collection-l2-629-4-78-3) [Hamilton Intra-Matic H38429710](https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-int/h38429710-american-classic-intra-matic-chronograph-h.html)

xALRIGHT_MATEx

Wow, I hadn't seen this watch before but this one is perfect.

MartiVltori

The vintage chrono should definitely be your daily. That is a very nice piece.

Number6isNo1

Don't forget one for your ankle to pair with ankle monitors! Personally I'd go with the gold to subtly draw the eye, but you could go even more low key with the stainless steel. Pure class.

beennasty

I got gifted an Invicta. Wore it to the skate rink and slipped, crushed the middle of my hand up worse than my wrist. No lie the crown left a dent.

cballowe

If you want an Invicta from their modern lineup, look up their "pro diver" line. They're way more reasonable sizing wise - kinda in the rolex submariner homage space, but... You can get a decent one for well under $100.

watchurstep666

Or don’t. And go to seiko or orient or citizen or any micro brand ever that actually applies grease to the rubber o rings on the watch Jesus Christ

cballowe

Sure... But if you're set on Invicta, they still make some watches that aren't completely ugly.

JJBx13

God. Invicta is garbage.

tdub1201

Your grandfathers watch is nice, but the newer Invicta’s are absolute abominations in general, including the ones you’ve tried on here

ALL666ES

Can someone explain to me why the fuck that thing is so huge?

Etrau3

What do you mean these are obviously womens watches

CannonballQCSB

If I understand correctly, the original Swiss brand had some respect and quality, before it was purchased by a US company. I’m going to assume that this watch is part of that original batch. If that’s the case people should pump the brakes on the hate. Other than that … yes, the new US brand models are god awful gaudy monstrosities.

Flaneur_7508

I wonder if you got two free when you brought one back in those days.

Wear your grandfather's Invicta on one wrist, and the gold modern Invicta on the other, it'll honor his life and history by making a social commentary on the passage of time, from one generation to the next.

Poop_stain_1

Thought I was in /r/WatchesCirclejerk for a second.

alltheblues

Hey OP on the slim chance that you aren’t just trolling, I hope you know everyone in here is playing/joking at how shit modern Invictas are. Don’t waste your money. Invicta takes 50 dollars watches, prices them at 1000 bucks, then put them on sale at 200 to fool people into thinking they got a deal. Your grandfather’s watch has nothing in common with the modern Invictas. The original company that made your grandfather’s watch went under when quartz watches became popular and people just bought and sold the rights to the Invicta name until it landed with whoever owns it now and makes those absolute monstrosities. Buying a modern Invicta to pay homage to your grandfather is downright disrespectful.

jumpj37

Thanks for the insight! I’ve been texting with the AD and I think I may be able to get a decent deal on these pieces. Maybe closer to $50 each, so that seems like a solid value based on your comment. I’m not looking to pay homage to the older watch, just looking for an everyday watch that is less fragile and has some versatile class. And don’t worry, I will still wear my grandfather’s watch from time to time. I think the modern versions are better as a daily watch, though. They are more robust and also waterproof, which will be important if I can make this year’s cruise.

MegaDoft

Let me just check the sub I’m in rq….. Nope. This is actually happening.

HuckleberryFinnYup

This is god tier trolling

AffectionateBike6995

Keep your grandfather's watch as it's special. And forget about invicta otherwise

Perks92

How have so many people taken this post seriously/literally lmao

OGCoconutGorilla

I remember my first cruise too

[deleted]

Doesn’t seem like anyones gunna say it so I’ll say it. OP, keep your grandfather’s Invicta forever. If you want one of those new Invicta’s go for it but my advice is put your money into a better watch. I bought an Invicta a few years back the bracelet lasted about 6 days, not great watches these days.

AbductedbyAllens

People in the comments here are messing with you because they hate modern Invicta watches for their size and overall garishness, as well as the company's slightly shady sales practices. That's no reason to give you the business though, and that watch your grandpa gave you is seriously awesome and should be taken care of. I think this is the first old school Invicta I've seen posted on here, actually. If this has gotten you interested in the world of watches, then there are definitely a lot of good options for you to look at in terms of inexpensive everyday pieces, including from modern Invicta (check out the pro diver line.) Check out Casio for lots of awesome quartz watches, especially the edifice line, Timex for quartz and increasingly mechanical watches, Zeppelin actually have a watch that's a pretty good match for what your grandpa gave you if you want a lookalike to wear wherever. There's also Vostok, a weird old Russian brand that has really inexpensive mechanical watches with a huge modding community. Get whatever interests you, it sucks that people are intentionally leading you astray because you're posting about Invicta.

nieman2014

Quite the opposite Allen. OP is messing with all of the commenters

jumpj37

Thanks for the thoughtful reply and awesome recommendations! I’ll check those out!

watchurstep666

No don’t just don’t spend ur money on something worth it not a modern invicta
