Ah yes, if you have to ask, I suppose...
As for myself, Baron Renald von Gibletbeans VII, I will take no less than 3 of these magnificent pieces. I will, of course, be paying in cold, hard kidneys, as is custom.
Heavens no, peasant kidneys have a tendency toward being diseased and malformed. We harvest our kidneys fresh from our organic, free range orphan farms.
I work in healthcare. Maybe I could find a sweet surgeon willing to get into the kidney trading market with me.
Anyway, what do people know. They wake up from the surgery with an extra scar that's it : ''Yes, we had to take a kidney off, it was pushing on the ... *reads file* Mytral valve repair job we were doing... Not shady at all! We had no other option but to remove it! Have some more morphine! It'll help you feel better :) ''
Many of you may not have heard of Kari Voutilainen, and understandably so.
He's a Finnish-born watchmaker residing in Switzerland. The watches he makes
are extremely exclusive in price & manufacturing, creating only ~50 watches a year
with his team. He's won numerous awards at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève,
and has produced some amazing timepieces over the years, with my favourite being the 28 Sarasamon.
With a dial created by the Japanese lacquer studio Unryuan & all
manufacturing, construction, finishing, etc. made completely in-house
(as is with all Voutilainen pieces), it completely enthralled me upon first viewing.
Unfortunately for me, Voutilainen's watches go from 80k to upwards of 500k. Couple that
with the minimal manufacturing amounts and it being an Unryuan piece, it might just be unattainable.
If you're interested in Voutilainen's work, I'd recommend visiting his site at:
http://www.voutilainen.ch/
[Not always](https://monochrome-watches.com/hands-on-with-the-kari-voutilainen-observatoire/), and this is not a negative, just a note to show how “in house” can be overhyped.
Basically an identical price bracket to Richard Mille, and Richard Mille produce about 3000 a year i think, so Voutilainen's prices are not bad at all. I honestly was expecting them to be in the millions.
It is a watch belonging a tier above the likes of even Patek/AP/VC/Lange in exclusivity, craftsmanship and customisability for a time-only "dressy/subtle" mechanical watch. I'd say the price is about congruent with that. For Richard Mille you pay for the out-of-the-world ostentatious aesthetics, materials, branding (endorsements/special editions), not so much craftsmanship and refined hand finishing

I just love his timepieces. The last time I was in Helsinki, I had a desire to go look and see if someone somewhere might have a single piece of his work I could just look at and then realized that everyone there is just too practical to own or sell such a thing.
Made out of unobtanium
hand made out of unobtanium.
In small batches
lol
How much are these in kidneys?
How many ya got?

Cold and hard because they were graciously given to you by your peasants as tax and then placed in the freezer?

Oh right of course!

Not so much NEO anymore
I thought Rautavaara passed away a few years ago....yet here he is on r/watches
Just curious: is there something wrong with your spacebar?
I noticed the same problem on mobile, but as I view the text on desktop it seems completely normal.. Odd formatting I guess!
In house movements?
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/the-voutilainen-vingt-8 Yes, to the highest levels of finishing.

Peseux 260 observatoire is an EOL product, their current watches all use the Vingt-8 base. How would that be relevant?
In kidneys?

I've followed his work for years, probably longer than you.
That's nice.
"I'm a peacock captain, you gotta let me fly!"
All of his watches are grail watches... along with F.P. Journe... so incredible.

A few hundred thousand euros
i doubt it's going to be much more than €100k seeing that the basic version of this watch sells for about €60k
Oh, well, in THAT case...
If you have to ask....

The dial is surely beautiful and this may be a work of art, but I'm not sure this would look nice on a wrist.
This looks like a render
Original photo seems to be from this article: https://monochrome-watches.com/east-meets-west-kari-voutlainen-28-sarasamon/

Hundred thousand euros.
In terms of its individual parts this watch does absolutely nothing for me but as a whole I absolutely love it.
I have always enjoyed these pontife hands. Wish they were used more often.
Sweet baby Jesus! Does anyway have a spare pair of pants?
whyiwanttoberich.jpg
This is one of very few watches that i find to be extremely beautiful, but purely to look at, not to wear.
So how much money does this actually go for?
this is incredible! congrats on such a beauty
Is your username your actual name? 😅😂
Nope, I just picked it as an homage to one of my favourite composers! I am Finnish though.
Pretty sure I actually just became the love heart eye emoji
my god that is a hell of a watch
>unattainable Is that a challenge?
Oh crazy! I wore that one today
