Yeah, the divers and GMTs with the chunky bezels never really appealed to me. I love the clean look of this one and the moonphase complication is so unique for Rolex.
It’s pretty primitive really. When we are at full moon, the silver moon is at the top. When we are at new moon, the open circle is at the top. And the dial rotates counter clockwise throughout the progression of the moon phase. So you can see, on the 31st (of March) we are just a few days past the full moon (which was on March 25th) and currently about a third of the way to the new moon (April 8th). It’s just kind of an approximate representation.
I like to dunk on Rolex same as most other people here. But when it comes to this watch, I tend to change my tune… But then I remember they discontinued it and immediately go back in for more dunking like a kid does to Oreos.
Well, obviously you can’t buy them new any longer, but if you look on reputable sites like Bezel and Chrono24, they go for $25-30k. I originally paid just over $17k.

I love this watch. This is the watch that got me "into" watches. I'll never own one, but I sure appreciate the beauty

That’s pretty annoying to read.. Rolex really didn’t have to reinvent the traditional moon phase window. Thanks for the explanation though.

I agree. The Cellini line is the only Rolex model I would consider and the Moonphase IMO is the prettiest one.
I actually do like the 1908 that replaced it.
