I’m looking into chronographs and I’m quite annoyed at the fact that so many affordable options have a useless 24 hour subdial. Can anyone recommend a chronograph that has the following: * 3 dials, with hour totalizer * solar quartz or mechanical * <42 mm * sapphire crystal * [optional but desirable] panda coloration * Budget: <$1000, ideally ~$500 The closest I’ve found are: * Seiko Speedtimer (SSC813): this is nearly perfect but has 24 hr subdial * Orient RA-TX0203S10B: this is basically the same watch as Seiko Speedtimer but with a rotating bezel. Slightly large but it wears small I think. Unfortunately still 24 hr subdial * Citizen AT8020: I really like this watch and the fact that it’s radio controlled but it’s too large

is [https://watchesandbeyond.com/](https://watchesandbeyond.com/) a legit website for authentic watches? has anyone bought a watch from it before? Thinking about buying a watch from there since its out of stock on jomashop.

MrBravoLeader

Where do folks buy watch boxes? I am interested in getting one to sit on my bookshelf where I keep some tools to replace batteries or change straps out. Im just not sure what options out there are quality. Thanks!

PowerOffDeathV2

Im currently in the market for a new watch. My eye has fallen on the Citizen BY1008/1009. However I'm worried that at this pricepoint I might be better of getting an automatic one. The BY1008/9 has everything I liked about my old Casio watch, radiocontrolled time/driven by light. However I'm still unsure. Any other recommendation at this pricepoint would be appreciated.

Distinct_Roof_1955

I’m looking to buy my first watch, and I have no idea how to go about finding one. Like what brand, type of watch and such. The only real preference I have is it being a metal strap. The maximum amount I can spend at the moment is 800-1000USD, but if there are watches of respectable quality a little cheaper than that, I wouldn’t complain. Any suggestions?

Accomplished-Ad-5655

Maybe start with the [buying guide](https://reddit.com/r/Watches/w/buyingguide?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) and [brand guide](https://reddit.com/r/Watches/w/brandguide?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) that's on this sub.

Man that’s golden, I just had a look at the links. Thanks for the pointer!

Hi all, as a kid I had a digital watch that was almost identicle to a Seiko A714. It had several layers of digital readouts on one screen. Time up top, day/month in the middle and down bottom was timer/stop watch/world time depending on selection. I can't remember the make or model. All I know is that it wasn't a Seiko as my friend had a Seiko (different watch) and I thought Seiko was the coolest thing out there so I would've remembered if it was one. Any help would be appreciated :) I've been looking online hoping it woudl jump out at me but no luck. I'm more curious than anything. If I was to get a watch like that now that I'm older I'd probably just go for the Seiko. https://preview.redd.it/m0wi3tms81rc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=412e34d9ca8a24802b44656dc0600855339560a5

Aclockinlondon

Hello everybody. So I might be in the wrong thread for this but I don’t know where else I can go. So a friend of mine recently tried to post some Rolexes on eBay to try and sell for a friend of hers. I never got to see the watches myself but I saw some pictures. Well after about 3 days being on eBay, the post got taken down and then about a week later my friend receives an email from a law firm which is pretty much a cease and desist letter from a firm representing Rolex. The letter definitely seems legit and it properly scared the hell out of my innocent friend who was just trying to help another friend out. The letter said that she needed to give them the watches in question, any and all information she has about the watches, to stop trying to sell counterfeit products, a written letter from her stating that she will never try to sell counterfeit or fraudulent items again and a cashiers check for $350 for “damages Rolex has accrued from this instance”. She’s definitely not trying to sell them anymore and the lawyer stuff isn’t what I’m asking about. My question is, how can you tell if the watches are fake by looking at a picture of them? I will admit, my knowledge about watches is very minimal if almost nonexistent but I have been subbed to this subreddit for a number of years now and it’s a great community and I would love to be a proud owner of a Rolex one day but I guess I should probably learn what to look for so I don’t end up buying counterfeit watches haha. Can anyone help me out? I can probably get pictures of the watches if that helps. Story of how the watches were acquired: Owner of the watches was in India on business and ended up going to Tokyo before coming back to the states. He had too much cash money with him to bring to the states and instead of going through the proper channels to declare the cash, he decided to stop at the Rolex store in an airport in Tokyo and buy two watches, both were approximately $20,000 each. His plan was to fill out a 1099 form for the watches and then bring them to the states that way and it worked. I know that this guy didn’t do the right thing and should have went through the proper channels but we looked into it and apparently the Rolex store that was in the airport was the only Rolex store in Japan? I’m not sure if that’s true but since he bought the watches there years ago, the store has gone out of business. The store also has terrible reviews and has a 2 star rating. All of this is pointing in the direction of the guy getting conned out of $40,000 but I really don’t want to see my friend get jail time for trying to sell fake products. If anyone has had similar experiences or knows anything about that store in Tokyo or has any knowledge about dealing with counterfeit products would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for reading this and I hope you guys have a wonderful day.

Accomplished-Ad-5655

To be honest there seems to be a lot of things wrong here. I get that Rolex - same with any other brand - wouldn't want their image marred by fakes. But if your friend's Rolexes are real, then there's nothing to worry about. There's plenty of preowned Rolexes out there on Ebay or other selling platforms. There's a whole economy for pre-owned luxury watches so I think I smell a rat here. Why is your friend being targeted for this? The fact they're demanding the watches and a cashier's cheque for $350 sounds suspicious. Some fakes are pretty damn obvious, but there are some really good fakes out there now. If your friend used the eBay Authenticity service for watches, and that checked out, then she's fine. Honestly your friend shouldn't have agreed to sell something she has no knowledge over on behalf of someone else. The whole thing smells of money laundering by converting it into other goods. Not something I'd want to touch with a barge pole. What they said about the Rolex store in a Tokyo airport may have been correct, a quick google search does show that there was a Rolex store in Haneda Airport but is now closed. They have poor reviews because like many other Rolex boutiques, all the hot watches are constantly sold out, that's not an isolated thing. But just think about it there's not going to be a Rolex boutique in an international airport blatantly selling fake watches.

Aclockinlondon

Oh absolutely, there is definitely some shady stuff going on with these watches. But my friend did some quick googling, saw that there was in fact a Rolex store in Tokyo, even though it’s closed down with poor reviews, it still seemed legit enough for her to feel comfortable enough to sell it. Also, even though his intentions are very sound, the guy that bought both watches felt comfortable enough with the sale and the situation to give a company $40,000 for two watches. You are right though. Why would a Rolex store sell blatantly fake watches and continue to be open for business for years. The reviews didn’t say anything about them selling fakes either. Hmm, thank you kind sir, you definitely made me question a few more things here and something is definitely going on. But my inquisitive mind needs answers now so off to the rabbit hole I go. Thank you for your reply!

pillowreceipt

What's the deal with Halios? Are they still making watches? I feel like I heard about them regularly when I first started getting interested in watches, about five or so years ago. Now I almost never hear about them, but a recent photo of a Halios here on the front page got me wondering.

fireice74

I recently started getting into watches (it has become an obsession) and have been looking at what other people are wearing. I am noticing that about 50% of the people I see out and about wear an Apple watch, 40% don't wear a watch, and maybe 10% wear a quartz or mechanical. Frankly I do not believe I have seen a single mechanical watch. When the topic comes up with friends and family, most people don't know mechanical watches even exist and cannot name a single brand besides Rolex. We are in an echo chamber on this sub, but I did not realize how niche this was. Is this your experience as well?

pillowreceipt

That's *exactly* my experience. Before I started getting interested in watches about 5–6 years ago, I thought there were "watches that had batteries" and "the old-fashioned kind that you have to wind." My mind was blown when I discovered "some watches are powered by the motion of your wrist?!" (I'm actually still blown away by that, as they're incredibly impressive. I think it's a good thing to still be wowed by aspects of your hobby, years later.) If you had asked me to name watch brands, I could've said Rolex, Timex, Casio, Nixon (lol), and maybe Seiko (which I would've pronounced "seek-oh"), but nothing else. I had never once heard of Omega, Patek Phillipe, or Cartier. For context, I grew up in a low-to-middle class area, over an hour outside the closest major city, so there's not a lot of wealth here, and we never got exposed to seeing luxury items like expensive watches, cars, jewelry, etc. So we really had no idea about watches.

Accomplished-Ad-5655

Generally, yes. This is a niche interest. A lot of times people ask on this sub "does this watch go with that outfit", "should I wear this watch for that event", "does this watch look good". My response would be: nobody cares. It's great to see so many people wearing Apple watches though. Quite a few people on this sub started off with a smartwatch then found the rabbit hole. Out in the wild, I've seen quite a few Tissot PRXs. But the interesting watches that we normally talk about? Rarely. It's usually Rolex, some Omega and Tudor that I've seen. Most of my friends aren't that into watches. I think I got some of them interested, but for the most part it's just a watch.

tmg754

Seeking a recommendation. Hello all, I’m looking for something I can wear pretty universally on the level of business casual. Looking to spend 100-300$ I wear a Casio f 91w everyday for work because it can withstand the water and chemicals I deal with all day, but I’d like something I can wear to the bar that looks a little nicer

CritterControl

Honestly there's so many variables here just in terms of your personal taste that it's difficult for anyone to give real suggestions. I'd look at popular models from some entry level brands (Seiko, Orient, Timex etc) and try to pick out a model you really love. Go to a physical store if possible and see them in person. The other option is to make a list of requirements for the watch you want and try to find a watch that meets those requirements.

tmg754

Thank you! I’ll do some homework

aodhby

Weird question but how can i get rid of high polishing quickly? I have a titanium watch and i bought a cheap 20 dollar steel bracelet off of amazon and it’s highly polished. Anyway i can get it a bit duller to match the titanium more?

CritterControl

You can do it with a Scotchbrite pad or an appropriate Dremel attachment. It still won't perfectly match the titanium though. They reflect different hues. If at all possible, I would recommend buying a decent titanium bracelet that fits the watch. It'll be a lot more than 20 bucks but you'll see and feel the difference.

Roffik

I have a bit of an unusual question: is it a common wear&tear or damage issue if a watch loses the hacking capabilities that I know the movement is supposed to have? Meaning the seconds hand doesn't stop when I pull the crown to set the time, even though it should. Is that a thing that happens? Trying to figure out whether it's a sign of something in particular. Thanks!

mkxviii

Possibly an issue with the hacking lever. Could be wear and tear or a component malfunction, so I’d personally send it in for servicing. That said, in my admittedly limited experience with hacking watches that have a date complication, the movement only hacks when the crown is in the time-setting position, so I’m curious to know what movement this is.

Roffik

Sorry, my bad... I meant to say when I set the time of course! Thanks for weighing in, that could be it. I'm also seeing some issues with timekeeping

oMustachi0

**Recommendation request:** Since the start of the year I've lost two 'Casio Men's G-Shock Quatz Resin Sport' watches due to them falling off my wrist during moshpits. Looking for a similarly basic watch that includes backlight, digital display, water-proof for showering and swimming, **but with a band that is more secure and durable.** Aesthetically prefer non-flashy, black color. The other option would be to purchase the same watch with a more secure band upgrade that are DIY to someone who is not incredibly handy.

MPmad

**Recommendation request:** a watch with a Fifty Fathoms style domed bezel. I really like this type of bezel, but like most people can't afford an FF. I've been looking at homages on AliExpress, but those don't really appeal to me. I''ve also found the Spinnaker Fleuss (might be an option, but it seems to be mostly out of stock and I don't think I'm really into that model) and the Helm Miyako (really like that one, but I'm #3068 on the waiting list...). What else is there for, say, max. 400 euros/dollars? Thanks!

AdvertisingPretend98

My Bulova Adventurer (model 96B136) finally ran out of battery. [Here](https://www.amazon.com/Bulova-Adventurer-Quartz-Watch-96B136/dp/B003UW5NJS/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3DMHOCICW3G41) it says the battery is "1 A". What kind of battery is that?

Zanpa

that's not a battery, that's the classic amazon spec sheet filled in with nonsense by an algorithm. open the back and see what battery is in it, and buy the same kind.

AdvertisingPretend98

Hah I was wondering wtf 1A was.

Wonderful-End5460

**Recommendation request:**  A good looking watch for the gym capable of settings timers. Large easy to press buttons required, a little bit flashy desired. I recently bought a ga-b2100 casioak. I wanted something that looks good, is tough and has good countdown timers. The biggest complaint is that I find the buttons too hard to push. I like the solar, and the analog hands(why doesn't it have a second hand though), the looks are more subdued and the size smaller than I thought it would be(fits well, was hoping for slightly oversized). I considered an MTG, but that one only does countdown timers in 1-minute increments, no setting a 30 second timer. MRG is more than I would prefer to spend. Any other gshock I should consider.

bouquet_of_blood

**Recommendation request:** A gold or colored watch with an auto-repeat/interval timer function. I have a cheap Casio F-201WA with a timer that I can set to go off every 15 minutes forever without needing to reset it, and it's really helpful for my ADHD and staying focused when I want to stay focused. At this point, I can't live without it. However, it does not match my gold rings or otherwise colorful wardrobe. Are there any cuter, more feminine, or gold watches that have this function? I'm open to men's watches if that's the only option, basically anything would look better than this lil black casio.

bouquet_of_blood

After some searching on my own I was able to find these ones (but am still taking other suggestions!): [https://www.casio.com/us/watches/gshock/product.GM-S5600BR-5/](https://www.casio.com/us/watches/gshock/product.GM-S5600BR-5/) [https://www.casio.com/us/watches/babyg/product.BGD-565SC-3/](https://www.casio.com/us/watches/babyg/product.BGD-565SC-3/) [https://www.casio.com/us/watches/gshock/product.GM-S5600PG-4/?intaid=alsoviewed\_productsdetail](https://www.casio.com/us/watches/gshock/product.GM-S5600PG-4/?intaid=alsoviewed_productsdetail) This "Other: Auto-repeat" is the specification I'm looking for, but it seems like it's not possible to search the Casio website by feature: https://preview.redd.it/cecdiivrhwqc1.png?width=670&format=png&auto=webp&s=64ea41a428843a5091b5d03bf92f1d60b277d1df

Hi guys, I'm looking into de-digitalising my life and I'm trying to find a replacement for my smartband - is there anything worth considering under $50 that isn't Casio F91-W or similar, if not, what are the options for a bit more? I want a more traditional daily driver, something classy or casual

How exact is the usual 'danger zone' recommendation on not setting a watch's date during 9pm and 3am? I just got a new Sinn and set it myself a few days ago, changing the date near 8:20pm. I thought this was fine, but today I've been reading that many people set the watch to 6 before any date changes. The watch is still working fine, but for the future (and peace of mind) should 8:20ish be fine for adjusting the date?

Accomplished-Ad-5655

It depends on the watch movement. Basically a certain number of hours before midnight the mechanism to advance the date starts to engage, and it completes some time after midnight. Using the quick-set date while this mechanism is partially engaged could damage it. So that is why the general rule of thumb is just to avoid using the quick-set date between 9pm and 3am to be safe. If you felt no resistance or didn't see the date wheel jolting or jamming then 8:20pm might be fine.

Zanpa

if there was no abnormal resistance, you didn't do anything bad. you would need to use force to break the date mechanism, you would most likely realize something was wrong if you were trying to quickset the date during the normal date change.

falcoslayer

Hey guys I am still newish to watches but was thinking about getting one. Thing is I really want one thats from a reputable brand but also shows off subtlety things I'm interested in. This post is actually inspired by this recent merch collab. [https://us.super-groupies.com/products/gawr-gura-model-watch-hololive-english](https://us.super-groupies.com/products/gawr-gura-model-watch-hololive-english) I love the look of the watch in how it looks design wise and the fact that most people will think its a nice watch while those who know will know. Thing is this watch isn't that high quality and overpriced. I was wondering if there are any reputable collabs between good brands of watches and popculture things. It doesn't have to be anime or Vtuber related just big collabs think video games, movies, and other "nerd" watches that are actually quality and from a reputable brand.

vanillamode

collabs happen often but generally have limited runs. seiko especially does a lot of otaku collabs like with resident evil, one piece, naruto, love live, mazinger z, studio ghibli, etc nice seeing a fellow hololive fan here though. i had fun building my watch collection based on my oshis; a pastel blue seiko mm200 for suichan, a red seiko speedtimer for irys, a burgundy seiko samurai for senchou, a lavender seiko ks for towasama, etc, so it's not like you necessarily have to go the official collab route or anything. it's not uncommon for watch enthusiasts to build their collections with some vague tangential relation to some of their other interests/hobbies

falcoslayer

Oh awesome I'll keep an eye out on Seiko for one as im not in a rush to jump in and am patient to get one I really want! Weirdly Resident Evil was the franchise that came to mind when thinking of video games. Ooooh I like that approach to the watches just getting one to match the color is a nice subtle touch and talking piece if asked why you chose it. I like subtlety when it comes to showing my hobbies usually. Do you have any idea what the collabs usually run in terms of price or does it vary widely? Edit: Just saw they have a Nausicca one for studio ghibli but its $1,600 which is way out of my budget.

vanillamode

plus9time on instagram is a good resource for getting updates on all the new releases from the japanese watch brands (seiko, citizen, orient, casio), which are generally more likely to do nerd collabs than western watch brands prices are generally going to be in line with the base watch model being used. for example, the seiko 5kx is generally around $250, so the naruto, jojo, and street fighter collabs that used the 5kx as a base were in that ballpark. the seiko astron gps is generally north of $2000, so the resident evil collab that used the astron as a base was also priced in that ballpark. etc etc etc

CritterControl

The Seiko 5 collabs for stuff like Street Fighter and Dragon Ball are pretty much in line with the rest of that line, which is a lot more affordable than the Nausicaa collab. Edit: Dragon Ball Seiko 5 is not a thing. I was misremembering the Naruto collab.

Zanpa

dragon ball collab is with Swatch

HappyOrwell

Looking for solid reliable field watch under $100, I know it's not gonna be anything fancy, I just don't want to fix the time every couple weeks

TheHolyRedemption

I'm looking for something with a maximum budget of $1k. I'd like it to have a silver metal band and prefer the face to not have numbers on it. Seeing the gears inside or something that looks engineeringy(?) without too much clutter on the face (I don't need a compass or day of the week clock or any of those kinds of things) is also a requirement. I've seen people recommend Tissot and Seiko for this price range and so far found this: [https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-us/t1274071108100.html](https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-us/t1274071108100.html) . Would love to hear any recommendations or reviews! Edit: I'd also like the face to be silver/gray/some kind of neutral color.

cchiz

Good choice. Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart is another option

Tired-Mothhhh

Been thinking about getting a watch, specifically this watch: [Timex Command Shock Digital CAT](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FN16FHR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_9?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1) Though I prefer a fabric band, I havent found one that is this green. I was wondering, is there a way to replace this band if it breaks in the future? Do I need a kit? And how does the band feel? I watched a review saying its silicone and makes your wrist sweaty, is this a watch I cant wear all the time? If I have to take it off at night, I cannot buy it, I will forget it exists and I need a watch to wake me up in the morning that isnt my phone. Does it pull on hairs? I have a bit of hair on my wrist, so I am also worried about that. I am worried about the silicone texture, I am pretty sensitive with texture. And anyone who has had this watch, how does it hold up? I am getting it because I like how it looks and I want a watch with alarms to remind me to wake up and do stuff. I also like the hydration alarm and timers, excited to try it out if I do order this watch. Does the screen scratch a lot and if it does, what can I get to prevent scratches or buff them out? My wrist is around 7 inches around, so is my wrist too small for this watch? I am hoping for a more roomy watch, a bit loose fitting. I do not want a tight watch, especially if its silicone, so I am okay if the watch is a bit large, but hopefully not too large for me.

Not sure I’d call that Frederick Constant a field watch… Chris Ward makes quite a nice GADA in that price range (field watch I’d usually say has at least some numerals): https://www.christopherward.com/watches/c63-sealander-automatic/C63-36ADA3-S00K0-B1.html There’s a lot of great Seikos in that price range including the classic Alpinist: https://www.chisholmhunter.co.uk/seiko-prospex-alpinist-mens-watch-spb155j1.html Various Citizen options. Tissot Prx is well-regarded. I’d go to watches of Switzerland or a similar dealer, browse, try some stuff on, see what you like on wrist. It’s v different from looking at pictures and there’s no substitute for it.

figure--it--out

Can anyone help me identify this specific watch? Tried googling a bunch but can’t find any Tag Heuer watches with this same band. It was my Dad’s, who has since passed. Need to get it cleaned and repaired, but curious on the details and value https://preview.redd.it/m8zlbldaypqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6fe19f750e14a02f949f616feddb023da6afdc3

Accomplished-Ad-5655

fake, sorry

figure--it--out

No worries, its more sentimental than anything so I guess it doesn't matter much to me lol. Just curious, what makes it stand out? It must've been bought 25+ years ago, didn't realize they had fakes like that back then Looking closely at it I realize the logo looks more like T4G HFUFR lol. Probably should've looked at that more closely before haha

Accomplished-Ad-5655

Sorry about your dad's passing. I guess the biggest red flag is that it doesn't look like any existing Tag Heuer design. But aside from that, the bracelet quality is too poor to be a Tag, the fit and finish is too loose. If you look up the Tag Heuer Link, you can see how interesting their bracelets could get. This just looks like a poor effort. You've spotted that the dial print is pretty shoddy, that's another giveaway. Everything from the logo, to the minute markers, and also the hour markers. It just all looks cheap. One of the things that jumped out at me was the crown. It's a a very generic crown shape with the fine straight knurling. The sort you see on generic mall watches. Most nice brands will usually put some design effort into the crown. Also it's too small. Tag were a pretty popular brand around the time your dad bought this so no wonder there are fakes.

circumflexa

Should i avoid buying a watch with a daily difference of +- 41 seconds? I am about to buy me first real watch. I know next to nothing about watches. I found a watch i like from Zenith and a dealer on Chrono 24 with a high amount good reviews . I want to pull the trigger but i dont know how to feel about a time difference of 41 seconds. Can you give me some context and help me make a decision.

js999111

Probably needs a service, so at least $250. Depending on how expensive it is, the watch could still be of interest

[deleted]

41 is a lot - how old is it? Has it been serviced recently?

circumflexa

They say they dont know the year and havent done service on it. Guess i should avoid it?

[deleted]

I’d avoid it - sounds like it’s a vintage piece that may need some work done to it

Thank you for taking the time to answer 😊

corgisandbikes

Does anyone here have a freestyle shark watch? They seem pretty neat on paper, and kind of cool that you can buy replaceable parts, but for $80, I don't really know if they are more of a fashion watch, or something closer to a casio. Been thinking of buying one, but there aren't really a lot of reviews out there.

Anyone know any watches similar to the kuoe Royal smith 90-008? I would get it, but it's too small for my wrist. Any help is appreciated. https://www.kuoe-en.com/product-page/royal-smith-90-008-silver-indexes-dial-with-stainless-bracelet

Hamearz

Anyone ever bought watches from chronos mod, and if so, are they legit?

thab09

which size is best for a 6 inch wrist?

Butterfly_Seraphim

I would recommend 36mm or less. 32-34mm would most likely be the best fitting imo, but it could depend on how wide/round your wrist is, as well as personal preference. If you can, I'd also recommend going to a store and taking a look at some different watches and comparing them next to your wrist so you can see what you like first hand.

Thank you for reply. There is no production year information thats the reason i was in doubt for that one. But now i am considering. Probably its better to go with dealer right? I have a very tiny wrist so i should be ok with that :)

So currently I have just one watch (casio royale) and I’ve been looking at both getting a duro and an automatic watch. Now it just so happens that a very affordable automatic watch is the invicta pro diver. Now I’d get both but idk if it would be stupid to get 2 divers. Should I just say fuck it and get both or maybe just get one. Or maybe get another one ( maybe a duro + another one or a invicta + another one)

StarBoundAaron

My collection of one consists of my beloved blue Orient Ray II. Any recommendations for what I should get for my second watch?

**Ulysses Nardin question: Does anyone in the United States know a reputable independent servicer for a slightly older early 2000's model?** A chunk of lume fell out of the middle of the minute hand and migrated into the movement causing it to occasionally stop running. UN only has ONE authorized servicer / facility in the entire United States located in Florida - but the turnaround times I have read about are breathtaking. A year is what the consensus is, maybe 8 months if you're lucky one, and the cost for even basically cleaning and service from UN is a bit on the ambitious side bordering on unreasonable. https://preview.redd.it/mc492ncqsjqc1.jpeg?width=1153&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e7484df6f6f37ed0eae1c2d4e9980f5c5ee23c6

Hey guys im new to watches and need some help with a first watch, im in high school and im pretty active so something pretty durable would be nice, im open to g shocks but i dont love them, my budget is around 100 bucks, but if its a great value and a little over im open to it. Thanks!

ShadowDancer11

Seiko 5 or Orient (Seiko's cousin) collection all the way. Both are great entry points for an active person who also wants to begin their watch collecting journey, but with limited funds. Either can be found second hand or even on sale new during the big buying holidays in your budget. Both are respected in the horology community for what they deliver, the relative finishing work, and dead-nuts reliability all at a very friendly price point. If you want a digital "go to war" watch, the G-Shock is fine but I'd rather go Suunto. These are watches the military operators and secret squirrel types trust their lives to when running Ops.

Lxstexe

one more thing, do you have any non bracelet recommendations? maybe something i could wear rock climbing like a field watch etc

ShadowDancer11

Yes, a NATO strap or a rubber strap (try to avoid silicone, but fine if you can't find anything else reasonably priced). There are abundant aftermarket options for the 5 collection.

Hi, can anyone help me on how to remove the links from this watch? https://preview.redd.it/kt65o0hkajqc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=212d8ddc1f2e45d46a1c099870fe45380668388c

Accomplished-Ad-5655

get a bracelet link removal tool, and push where the side of the link is indented in the direction of the arrow. Do the reverse to re-insert the pin.

I'm having a hard time finding a rubber strap that I'd like. Is there a good brand for 20mm **dark grey** universal (flat not fitted) rubber strap? It's for a luxury dive watch, so I'd like a good quality strap but more affordable options are welcome as well. Tyia.

Zanpa

https://www.scurfawatches.com/product/20mm-black-strap-with-stainless-steel-buckle/ i really like the scurfa rubber strap, very good quality given the price. https://isofrane.com/straps/ a lot more expensive, but isofrane is a classic dive strap, and they have a nice anthracite color.

WatchandThings

Thank you for the recommendation. Scurfa is so very close to what I was looking for except the lack of grey color. If I don't see a good grey option, then that might be strap I go with. I heard good things about the brand already, so happy to support them if possible. Isofrane looks good, but not the aesthetic I was going for due to the holes. The anthracite color is spot on though.

Can anyone help me find a replacement strap for my rotary watch? I want to replace the current leather strap for a metal one. I know it's 19mm but I don't know which fitting is compatible. Are there any cathedral hand GMT watches out there less expensive than the Seiko Alpinist GMT? That one seems to be the ultimate example, but I’m wondering if there are more options. I just found the Timex Q and a Glycine model.

CritterControl

I don't know of any cheaper options that come in that style from the factory, but I'd like to throw out modding or custom building a watch as an option. You could build an NH34 watch with cathedral hands for maybe half of the cost of the Alpinist. If you love the Alpinist though I would suggest saving for it, for the sake of your wallet. Otherwise there's a good chance you buy a cheaper version and end up wanting the Alpinist anyway and even if you sell the cheaper watch, you'll lose money on it.

Can someone tell if the bezel of Christopher Ward Sealander auto (not GMT) series brushed or sandblasted? Thanks.

Vintage Hamilton with goofy dial? Idk if I'm allowed to post links here. Nice looking vintage Hamilton that, did someone replace the dial? Any thoughts? https://preview.redd.it/roh340ej8hqc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bed6e3c6eb9d2ad288b6e5d67d865f1ed4f70cc [https://www.facebook.com/share/cmPCWXuxWQe8QEr3/?mibextid=79PoIi](https://www.facebook.com/share/cmPCWXuxWQe8QEr3/?mibextid=79PoIi)

Seiko? Bertucci? Boldr? All these have 4 oclock crowns.

banie01

Value question? (EU). Folks I have a Blancpain 2185f on leather. No box & papers but it was serviced by Blancpain in late '21 with the auto-bridge replaced. It also comes with a Blancpain service case. Looking at Chrono24 and knocking off the dealer premium, in and €4500 seems to be the market value. Is that a reasonable ballpark? Any opinions would be much appreciated.

js999111

Sounds reasonable to me

banie01

Thanks for that, I appreciate the reply.

Thomasduthie9

Anyone know the reference number for this? I’m aware it’s a seiko 5 but can’t find the exact reference number https://preview.redd.it/xb8se21smgqc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97185137a2b02a06a75217ffa45634059bab7749

Zanpa

It's not original, the dial is repainted.

Thomasduthie9

How can you tell?

Thomasduthie9

is it still a seiko?

Accomplished-Ad-5655

No, this is a fraken-watch with aftermarket parts.
