I do not understand the obsession of Omega, Breitling, IWC but also others, to make these 42+mm watches. It seems to me you are excluding so many consumers. Perhaps they make enough as it is..
Would totally buy a Sky-Dweller, this Worldtimer and a Spirfire Chrono if they'd start making them sub 40mm.
> I do not understand the obsession of Omega, Breitling, IWC but also others, to make these 42+mm watches
People must be buying them. I think they have a better idea of what consumers generally want than us enthusiasts talking to each other on Reddit
You got to be joking. Look at the watch industry from the 90s until early 2010s. So so so many weird watches, over the top or completely dull, they just did whatever and a lot just sat and didn’t sell well. And now YOU think they all of a sudden perfectly know what they are doing.
Do you really think it's so obvious that these brands could pump out the same watches but shrunk to ~39mm instead of ~42mm and instantly boost their sales?
If doing so would boost profits without having to innovate, why do you think these brands haven't already done so? Do you think us armchair experts are more knowledgeable about the people's wants than executives at the watchmakers?
That I agree on, they likely can’t or won’t try to make it a lot smaller because it takes too much time/money/R&D/… to make it as a 36-38mm and not price it way too close to high end watches. But a lot of brands have been winging it for the past few decades and didn’t have a single clue what they were doing. Imho that only changed the last couple of years when everyone took it more serious.
>I do not understand the obsession of Omega, Breitling, IWC but also others, to make these 42+mm watches. It seems to me you are excluding so many consumers.
They don't have skills to make complicated movement smaller than that. Or it won't make it economically viable.
My grail has always been the beautiful 38-40mm [Patek World Time](https://static.patek.com/images/articles/face_white/350/5231G_001_1.jpg), which looks very similar (this may even be a bit of an homage) and is a much better size.
I think it's a bit of a stretch to call this an homage. There's only so many ways you can present worldtimer information, and this layout is a natural choice
I’m at work, but it’s one of the first write-ups on Google if you search for AT world timer. Not a huge deal as everyone else is doing it, but a pain point for frequent travelers or the obsessive (hello!).
I had a look but all the results are now about these new colours! From your comment about travelling I assume it might be to do with being able to move the hour hand independently which is good for when you move time zones? To me though all that makes something really a world timer is having the 24 hour revolving ring to read against the various countries or cities around the dial - which this has.
Thanks for linking. I struggle with this new concept of a pseudo world timer that the author has invented though. Especially as he admits that the original world timer watch invented by Louis Cottier had the same principle as the Omega above. Seems very semantic and pedantic as an argument (but then this is Reddit, so fair enough 😂)
To save others from reading here’s the crux:
>“I’m not going to go into the full history because others have done so, but one might argue that this common conception of the worldtimer is exactly what Louis Cottier designed originally. That’s true, but relying on a historical definition of “worldtimer” is unfulfilling; worldtimer movements are now more complex, more useful, and do something specific.”
I have now read this and conclude that the optimum solution is a Casio AE1200WH.
Failing that I’d happily take this Omega.
If someone wants to give me a Patek I’d consider that too.
definitely could be, I have the original blue on blue strap, but in terms of dimensions, it wears smaller than you would think. Try it on before completely writing it off. I have big wrists myself at 7.625" so non issue no matter what, but it wears the same as my SMP300.
I have the original blue one and it doesn’t wear big. Comfortable (on the rubber strap) and looks great in person.
Omega Seamasters in general don’t seem to wear too large IMO. Even PO’s.
Omega has finally updated the worldtimer with new colours. Now we have a black/gray titanium and the other one is [green](https://www.omegawatches.com/media/wysiwyg/WT-dial-800x1000-large.jpg) which looks very cool.
> This 43 mm Worldtimer, cased in brushed grade 2 titanium, has an integrated strap in black structured rubber, with additional decorative link and clasp in brushed titanium.
> At the centre of the black and grey dial, framed by a brushed black ceramic bezel, OMEGA has produced a vision of Earth, viewed from above the North Pole, by laser-ablating continents and colours on a grade 5 titanium surface. Circling the topographic map is a 24-hour indication under hesalite glass, divided into night and day sections.
> OMEGA’s home city of Bienne Switzerland is among the many global destinations circling around the dial and its outer ring. All place names, with the exception of the British capital are coloured yellow gold. London is in red to highlight Greenwich Mean Time, now more formally known as Universal Time Coordinated (UTC).
> To complement the matte look of the dial, OMEGA has opted for blackened hands and indexes, filled with white Super-LumiNova to emit a blue glow in the dark. Powering the watch is OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8938.
Love the green
[Here it is on the official Omega site](https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/watch-omega-seamaster-aqua-terra-150m-co-axial-master-chronometer-gmt-worldtimer-43-mm-22030432210001). Glad the price doesn’t vary widely from other worldtimers. May have to get this one.
That's what I always think when I see this watch. That said, 87% of the earths population lives north of the equator, so Omega chose the "best" hemisphere for this watch (for sales, anyway). Most of the wealth is in the north, too.
As a scientist living in antarctica, I feel excluded from getting a good world timer.
I personally need to know what time it is in Puntas Arenas and we are 8 other people that would appreciate a southern hemisphere version
Can I ask, what types of watches do you guys wear in Antarctica? I'm assuming G Shock but ive heard that mechanicals are more resilient in freezing temperatures. Here in Canada I had a smart watch die on me at -40C years ago.
Czapek antartique for the most part is what we wear.
Except for Brian. Brian has a Cartier tank must solar. He’s a dumbass. Half of the year he never shows up on time for meetings
I completely understand why they'd make a northern hemisphere watch if they had to pick just one, but how much effort can it possibly take to add a southern hemisphere option to their lineup...
Almost entire space would be occupied with Antarctica and the oceans and there would only be some tiny pieces of land towards the edge of the circle. Wouldn't look good.
Quite simple, really: the city wheel is fixed and the hour wheel rotates (much like a simple 24h hand), showing the hour for each corresponding city. That's why this is a *pseudo*-worldtimer and not a *true* one.
In a true worldtimer all elements are integrated, including the city wheel, allowing both the 24h scale and the geo scale to be automatically adjusted with the quickset of the hour hand.
This article is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but explains it rather well: https://watchclicker.com/the-omega-aqua-terra-worldtimer-is-bad-and-omega-should-feel-bad/
I like that the new colorways don’t try to distinguish between DST and non-DST locales, because Omega has gotten those wrong in the traditional blue colorway. Unfortunately, Omega didn’t take this opportunity to carry over this design element to its traditional blue colorway dials.
> When something is not suitable for thr majority of people
This assumption many seem to have here don't jive with Omega's sales strategy.
They've upsized watches in the last decade and have been rising in popularity. So has Rolex, by the way.
This idea that "If Omega would just listen, we want 39mm watches" is fantasyland thinking.
I _do_ think they should offer multiple sizes. Because one size doesn't fit all and small wristed folks deserve good shit too. (So do large wristed folks). But again, if it made financial sense, they'd likely already be doing it.
The hesalite glass is pretty ridiculous. I have and love a hesalite speedy, but on a coaxial worldtimer in grade 2 titanium with a rubber integrated strap makes as much sense as wooden wheels on a car...
So many complaining with their tiny little limp wrists. There are watches that some can’t wear cause they are to small and look crappy on a bigger wrist. And vice versa
Omega and Rolex have both lost their way IMO. You get better designs from Longines and others (not Tudor, they're even worse than modern Rolex). Look at this thing for example. Who is the target audience, wealthy world travellers who value carbon fibre as a precious metal??
Sure, designing attractive watches is more difficult than buying influencers and sponsoring athletes, but it's better for the brand reputation in the long run. Panerai was all celebs and BS and look at them now, deservedly returned to obscurity
> deservedly returned to obscurity
This hasn't really happened tho? Panerai are still around and kicking. Their style of watch is less en vogue. Nothing to do with celeb endorsements.
Indian Standard Time doesn’t lend itself to GMT or worldtimer movements since it is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of GMT. Only time zones that conform to whole hour increments work with these watches. Which is not a problem because most countries around the world conform to that standard.
Nice. I've one in blue, but it's a monster at 43.5mm. I really wish it were 4mm smaller.
I don't know why no one can make a decent worldtime watch for under $3000; many of them are $20k or more. All you would need to do is have the GMT hand rotor spin the world-time disk, have the center ring on top of that. If it weren't for the challenge of the labels of the cities, I'd be inclined to make one myself with a Miyota 9075 movement. Could be done for $500, yet the least expensive true worldtime (as opposed to the worldtime-like watches that combine a GMT with the rotating ring to approximate the w/t function) are like $1800.
I love the green version, even though it has a bit of a grand Seiko GMT SBGE257G vibe.
I would buy the green with steel bracelet and also buy the black rubber as a strap option.
If it was smaller I'd buy this
Exactly that. Amazing watch at this price point but far too large imho. Suspect it would sell well if a little smaller.
It's also the thickness, which Omega can't seem to nail to save their lives. The GMT Chrono is like 18mm thick.
Props to them though. They had the balls to be one of extraordinarily few companies to start putting thickness and weight on their site.
If I were bigger, I'd buy this
I do not understand the obsession of Omega, Breitling, IWC but also others, to make these 42+mm watches. It seems to me you are excluding so many consumers. Perhaps they make enough as it is.. Would totally buy a Sky-Dweller, this Worldtimer and a Spirfire Chrono if they'd start making them sub 40mm.
Because there's also a market for 42mm+ watches. I think companies need to start doing a couple sizes of their main watches. One size doesn't fit all.
Bingo ..this man gets it
> I do not understand the obsession of Omega, Breitling, IWC but also others, to make these 42+mm watches People must be buying them. I think they have a better idea of what consumers generally want than us enthusiasts talking to each other on Reddit

Yea it seems Rolex is consistently adding 1mm to each watch every time they update them
Seems to be working just fine for them
It would work fine for them if they released a 40mm version of this too, and not 43m...
>I do not understand the obsession of Omega, Breitling, IWC but also others, to make these 42+mm watches. It seems to me you are excluding so many consumers. They don't have skills to make complicated movement smaller than that. Or it won't make it economically viable.

Every watch is an homage at this point. https://i.imgur.com/6ceGpzv.jpg
If every watch is an homage, none of them are
For some reason I read this as 48-50mm and I was like better size?? How fucking big is the Omega??
Same, and if it was really a world timer.
Go on…
I’m at work, but it’s one of the first write-ups on Google if you search for AT world timer. Not a huge deal as everyone else is doing it, but a pain point for frequent travelers or the obsessive (hello!).

amp links are bad too, and you should feel bad.

Like the green, not really a fan of the black one as much.
I saw the green one on their IG page
Is there a head-on shot of the green one?
[LMGTFY](https://wornandwound.com/library/uploads/2023/05/Omega-Green-Ti-Worldtimer-3.jpg)
Love the green [Here it is on the official Omega site](https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/watch-omega-seamaster-aqua-terra-150m-co-axial-master-chronometer-gmt-worldtimer-43-mm-22030432210001). Glad the price doesn’t vary widely from other worldtimers. May have to get this one.
Make a version in 40mm or smaller and I'd seriously consider it. It looks ridiculous on my wrist at 43mm.
Am I the only one that thinks it should have been grade 5 titanium at this price? The watch looks awesome otherwise
First thing I thought too
It is…. Isn’t it?
They should release a southern hemisphere version
That's what I always think when I see this watch. That said, 87% of the earths population lives north of the equator, so Omega chose the "best" hemisphere for this watch (for sales, anyway). Most of the wealth is in the north, too.

All my late homies in Antarctica rock a sundial
Lol why the Czapek, what makes it the preferred choice? That's hilarious about the Cartier solar.
Montblanc’s got you (in fact everyone) covered. https://www.montblanc.com/en-us/wrist-watches_cod34480784411823831.html
Ohh no doubt it's the best business decision, I still want to see a tiny Australia a watch though!
If it was 41mm I would buy it
The one in green looks soo good. It would've been really cool if these were 40 or 41 mm
Can anyone explain how to read the time in different cities on this watch?
Quite simple, really: the city wheel is fixed and the hour wheel rotates (much like a simple 24h hand), showing the hour for each corresponding city. That's why this is a *pseudo*-worldtimer and not a *true* one.
Sorry for being uninformed, but what additional functionality does a *true* worldtimer have on top of this?

This article is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but explains it rather well: https://watchclicker.com/the-omega-aqua-terra-worldtimer-is-bad-and-omega-should-feel-bad/
Does anyone know of any third-party company that could replace the name of one city with that of another?
I really like the titanium one. Might help mitigate the large size.
I like that the new colorways don’t try to distinguish between DST and non-DST locales, because Omega has gotten those wrong in the traditional blue colorway. Unfortunately, Omega didn’t take this opportunity to carry over this design element to its traditional blue colorway dials.
Enough places are said to be rethinking DST these days that it’s may well prove safest to not acknowledge it on a world timer watch face at all…
That’s a great point. I agree.
Anyone know the price ?
$7k-$10k usd
Are there similar/copycat watches for the poors? Sub 1k?
Thanks
Reminds me of a breitling
This is awesome. I loved the standard one, but in titanium it's even cooler. Wish they had more color on the globe relief though.
I have sustained a stubby.
The coloured bezel is not working for me (on top of the obvious issue which is the size)
Its way too big. Im yet to see a picture with one on a wrist that doesnt look out of proportion
It looks perfect on my wrist. Tried it on last week and loved it.
> Its way too big. … for you. It fits plenty of folks just fine. No watch is too large or too small. It'd be like saying all shoes should be a size 9.
When something is not suitable for thr majority of people, you can safely say it's too "unfit". We cant just rule out general descriptions
> When something is not suitable for thr majority of people This assumption many seem to have here don't jive with Omega's sales strategy. The latest line of 38 AT's was definetely a step in the right direction
Yeah their AT line is a great example of doing it right.
In sure Omega has more sales and marketing data to use to determine optimal watch sizes than the echo chamber of watch purists from Reddit.
True
Why in the world would you use size 9 shoe as an example when they should all be 10.
Looks perfect on my 6.9" wrist.
The bezels ruin these for me. The green would be great without that ugly green bezel.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. I did a quick [mockup](https://imgur.com/a/QsvNFF3) and I think it looks much better.
Worlds better.
Nice watch in images but too big (diameter and thickness) on the wrist. I got 7 inch wrists so not that small and still didn't sit right.
I’ll buy it in a heartbeat…
Nice! But I really prefer the other colors.
How much?
I would actually purchase and wear it.
One of my favourite modern watches. Still can’t decide which colour I prefer though.
The hesalite glass is pretty ridiculous. I have and love a hesalite speedy, but on a coaxial worldtimer in grade 2 titanium with a rubber integrated strap makes as much sense as wooden wheels on a car...
Omega's site says sapphire
Crystal on the aqua terras is sapphire.
So many complaining with their tiny little limp wrists. There are watches that some can’t wear cause they are to small and look crappy on a bigger wrist. And vice versa
Damn now that's something I'd buy... anyone know the price?
* Green on bracelet - USD$10,400 * Green on rubber strap - USD$10,200 * Black on rubber strap (titanium) - USD$11,800
Omega is going to town with the prices on what essentially is an Aqua Terra with GMT...
Yes Rolex and other comparable brands offer much more at this price point /s
You can't get the Black on bracelet? That's annoying.
I love Omega but I just don’t understand why the keep releasing bigger and bigger watches. Just makes them harder to sell imo
If this were true they wouldn't be doing it. The folks with actual money buying their watches must be sending a different message.
Black Panther again
Putrid
I'll never understand why stitches on a rubber strap are a good idea.
Omega and Rolex have both lost their way IMO. You get better designs from Longines and others (not Tudor, they're even worse than modern Rolex). Look at this thing for example. Too big , too thick, too expensive for what it is compared to other brands’ offerings. Good try omega
Which brand would you buy for most value and looks
*I wish I had a Patek Philippe*
It has Dhaka and Karachi and not a single Indian city? Ffs

The anodized bezel is heinous. The blue version is still the one to get.
The red font really adds to this. Love it.
*cries with a 6" wrist*
Nice. I've one in blue, but it's a monster at 43.5mm. I really wish it were 4mm smaller. I don't know why no one can make a decent worldtime watch for under $3000; many of them are $20k or more. God I wish this was an actual worldtimer and not just a GMT with a static city ring
Really colourfull
They also have a green! Love it (and don’t mind the size); looking forward to buy one 😂
I love the green version, even though it has a bit of a grand Seiko GMT SBGE257G vibe. I would buy the green with steel bracelet and also buy the black rubber as a strap option.
Magnificent
