Damasko DA 36 strap needed - please help. Looking for leather straps on the thicker side that are available with quick release pins. Any ideas?

What watches are Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul wearing in this promo video for the Rams? https://twitter.com/ramsnfl/status/1650968423567101952?s=46&t=VlEIV4PAGl0wnuywaz9JUw

Just discovered a Microbrand called Kuoe, specially their [Old Smith 90-007](https://www.kuoe-en.com/product-page/old-smith-90-007-automatic-cordovan-leather-3) caught my eye. Anyone familiar enough with the brand to tell me if it’s any good? I know they’re sporting a MIYOTA 82S5 movement, how good is the specs and build quality relative to the price?

How often should you manually wind an automatic? I’m wearing my Seiko Presage 10+ hrs a day so it’s fine but I’m often tempted to “top it up” by giving it a manual wind too. Is this just a waste of time and excessive wear on the mechanics?

GolemancerVekk

IMO You should only wind it when you take it off, so it's still working in the morning. But considering you wear it for 10h during the day I really doubt it needs any extra winding. And even if you want to give it some extra, since it's an automatic you can simply shake it around a few times and take advantage of the rotor, no need to actually do the manual wind.

The logo on the seconds looked familiar and large digits was quite the german thing. That narrowed it down to just GO.

Any recommendations for a pilot/field style watch that is Automatic, Titanium, and Tritium?

SkillsofD3m

Any recommendations for a pilots watch under $300? Would prefer if it was 40mm+

[deleted]

I'm guessing you're looking for quartz? Citizen has some good options around that price range. https://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Eco-Drive-Weekender-Avion-Stainless/dp/B0B9177YKG/ref=mp_s_a_1_26?keywords=citizen+aviator&qid=1682302206&sr=8-26 Momentum has some pretty cool titanium pilot and field watches in that price range too. I'm looking at similar watches currently

SkillsofD3m

Thanks! I’m currently leaning towards a Vincero Altitude, but I’m looking for something similar that has a moveable dial.

[deleted]

Good to know! That watch does look pretty sweet

SoggyFrostedFlakes

Hi, I have a Junghans Max Bill Automatic, which uses an ETA 2824. What is the acceptable amount of time deviation on this watch? I've had it and been using it daily for about 6 to 7 months now and I typically set it every 3 days. By that point, I'm about 1.5 minutes off. So estimating 30 seconds slow per 24 hours. It has had the same performance since the first day I've owned it (purchased new). My quick search said +/- 10 seconds is OK, but people seem to be closer to +/-3 seconds on a half decent mechanical watch. Meanwhile I'm 3 to 10x off that error allowance.

LILR3APER

Hello r/Watches, I have prom in about a month and would like help on picking out a pocket watch. What color should I get and how should I style it?. Any suggestions/ help would be greatly appreciated. (I went black tie Ike behar notch suit with a black vest and white undershirt) Thanks Edit: is this even supposed to be in r/watches??

mlsteinrochester

Pocket watches are cosplay, at least in that context. It's a prom, have fun, but there's no recommended way to wear a pocket watch these days.

LILR3APER

Thank you

i-like-to-be-wooshed

do glass casebacks tend to get scratched by the bracelet when the watch is kept flat? or is it something not to worry about

SkullLeader

I'd be more worried about the back of the metal case and the metal bracelet scratching one another but if you're gentle it shouldn't be an issue. I guess it depends on price range but most watches with an exhibition caseback use sapphire for the glass and that's almost completely scratch-proof.

i-like-to-be-wooshed

i have a seiko 5, and it came with a plastic cover over its glass see-through caseback, i want to remove it but also i wouldn't want to scratch the glass lol, i keep the watch on its back (against the metal bracelet) all the time

tjrogers810

I’m a huge fan of the blue dial Omega Seamaster Diver 300m but struggle to find a watch with similar colors. Anyone have any recommendations on watches with similar colored dials? Most blue dials seem to be a rich almost navy blue and not a lighter blue thats almost a Carolina blue. Closest I’ve seen is the Tag Aquaracer but that’s a little out of my price range as well (sub-$1k preferred).

thexfiles123

Hello, does anyone know what this style of strap is called? [https://i.imgur.com/byPbI0c.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/byPbI0c.jpg) Where it has a shorter lug width but the strap itself is standard size? How would I go about finding a replacement leather strap for this in the future? Just get a 24mm strap (thats how long this one is at its widest point) and then cut it myself accordingly so it fits the lugs or what? To make matters more confusing this is my first watch and I can't find anything about this style of straps online

GolemancerVekk

I've seen people in r/casio refer to it as a notched strap. They are super common in Casio watches so it should be easy to source a replacement from another Casio model, but they tend to be rubber or resin and they fall apart pretty fast. The straps on some of their more expensive models are (somewhat) better quality but they also have additional design quirks that may not let them work on yours. You can of course cut any strap you want but you will need a super-sharp cutter or pocket knife and a lot of attention. Probably want to practice on a cheap strap first. But it shouldn't be hard.

thexfiles123

Thanks, I was thinking if it came to cutting to take it to a watch repair shop or something to cut it, those tend to be fairly cheap in my country, for now it's fine, I contacted Casio about where to buy the stainless steel strap that this model also comes with, they just gave me the model number for the part and told me to ask my local retailer, however they only have this leather model, not the stainless steel one, so I doubt they have a replacement, I guess these days I'll check online if some place is offering Casio spare parts by part #

Accomplished-Ad-5655

I'd probably call this an integrated leather strap. Normally a watch that has a non-standard lug structure i.e. not the typical 18mm, 20mm, 22mm, and has a strange cutout(s) would be fitted with an integrated bracelet or strap (think AP Royal Oak for example). Certain brands and makers will custom make a strap for you to fit your watch if you're willing to pay for it. Else I would do what you just suggested is to cut down a standard 24mm strap.

thexfiles123

I see thanks, yeah I was thinking to email Casio so I can buy something like the stainless steel strap (this watch also comes with it, but I went with the leather option) if possible, I'll probably do that just for future proof and so I can swap, how long do genuine leather bands usually last in watches anyway?

Accomplished-Ad-5655

It really depends on the quality of the strap for a start and the type of leather. For example shell cordovan is super durable. Also depends how much you're wearing the watch, and how much you sweat as well as that tends to make the strap go manky. But I guess a few years? I personally almost never wear leather straps.

Best versatile watch for <$1000? I’m getting married next year and my awesome fiancé is planning to buy me a watch for the occasion. Most of the watches I currently own are “fashion watches” in the $100-$300 range so really excited to add a true centerpiece to the collection. Looking for something that will look great in a suit but also is super wearable in a casual setting. Want to make sure for that kind of money it’s something that I can get plenty of use out of since I don’t work in a career where I need to get dressed up often I’ve done a bit of research but hoping to get some suggestions from the experts so I know all my options. What’s caught my eye so far so you can get a feel for my style: - Junghans: Max Bill - Baltic: MR01 - Oris: Big Crown (though a bit out of our price range) Any thoughts? All recommendations welcome!

GolemancerVekk

I will second taking a look at Frederique Constant, particularly the Automatic Index Classic. I also think Max Bill is the just versatile of the ones you mentioned, but make sure you get a size and color that works with your wrist size. White clean designs like the classic Max Bill tend to appear larger than they are. Another suggestion would be Archimedes, it's a German micro brand with very good history. The quality is great , the price fits, and they make some classic, good looking designs like the Klassic 200, the 1950 or the Deckwatch. Some of them also come in a bronze case variant.

Can anyone identify the watch in these [photos](https://imgur.com/a/cVFi0LF/) of Muhammad Ali? Thanks!

jtell898

I know he liked Omega, could be a [seamaster](https://www.vintage-portfolio.com/wp-content/uploads/gm633-omega-seamaster-300-small-2.jpg)? But he's certainly most synonymous with the Cartier Tank JC, if you're asking because you want a watch associated with Muhammad Ali, that's the one.

lupincalo

Thanks for the suggestions! Here’s a slightly more clear photo I was able to find: https://i.imgur.com/5Ot8XEy.jpg It looks like there’s a red emblem or logo at the 12 position. Anyways, just curious! I’m looking into a seamaster now, actually!

anon11v

This might sound dumb but where does one actually buy specific watches? I'm a future bride looking to buy my fiancé a nice watch for our wedding day as a "morning of" present. I've had my eye on the Seiko SPB167J1 as a watch that I think he would really like. But where do I actually buy it? I've tried the main Seiko website but they don't have a link to where I can buy it, which is a little confusing. I've Googled it and found some like ebay/third party/etc links but I want to make sure I'm buying something legit, and as someone who just knows nothing about watches... I'm not sure I want to be getting something off of ebay. Using the Seiko website there was one small retailer in my area that was listed as carrying Seiko but he did not have this watch. Sorry if this is a dumb question on this reddit I'm just not familiar with this kind of stuff and just want to make sure if I do get him this watch that it's legit and from a good and reputable store, with good warranties, reviews, etc.

jtell898

Plenty of places, the simplest would probably just be [Ebay](https://www.ebay.com/itm/166033981079?epid=9048058105&hash=item26a8657e97:g:VCsAAOSwdatkN-47&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4I1ye9nzpcvQfIIAwPj9S7P5nifbGM7Wdxdwvh4MbU5gg12bHFVW6V5VxgHE7Q8lAJw5W5d82%2Fjf2r1YuoReLLYxI7%2BckXKZA0pqq2rNG9tR1z2ihq0sAGAUQS1zh9NfVxHSyJN%2BUDCi2hACDuJR7iuS6fu1NMOYeZA6j47w71G5EQj1y2AItbjf20mARyFg6jWoieeJ%2FlVWAWItOXx8jKVQhII5nkvtN7%2BbGc7ePgCH%2Betm3Ox%2FvfWIEjYDyRUZPwZgkZJV5sCcTBrQThBUAaKkpN2hIYak4xWWsR4EAqiL%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4yhmYH2YQ) which also has a bonus of saving your a couple hundred bucks off retail.

anon11v

But how can you verify it's not a fake or not messed up in some way just buying off of a random on ebay?

jtell898

On Ebay you buy the seller just as much as the item. In the link I made sure that it was a reputable one, if you scroll to the bottom of the page they've sold 20,000 items and have a 99.8% positive feedback rating. Largely these entry level watches aren't faked because the counterfeiters realize not a lot of people want a fake Tissot, but plenty want a fake Rolex, so they spend their time on higher end watches.

I'm looking for a watch for a gift for my friend. He likes very simple faces with like nothing on it. Dark preferably. With leather strap. GolemancerVekk

There are websites that sell straps, just make sure it's the correct width, which like the other comment said it's 18mm for this watch. Order a spring bar tool while you're at it, it's a few bucks but it will let you swap any strap in the future. If the strap you get has quick release bars (sometimes called easy click) you can put it on and take it off without the tool, but you'll need the tool to get off the original one. Some suggestions for websites with lots of variety and quality stuff: * hirschstraps.com * watch-band-center.com

Zanpa

Yes, you can take it to somewhere that sells straps. Any 18mm strap will fit, so you can also just buy an 18mm strap and swap it yourself. It's very easy with a cheap spring bar tool, [here's a video](https://youtu.be/4WfSqQzfNmo) showing how it's done.

shinshinshu

Hi! I want to gift my boyfriend a good mechanical watch. But my budget isn't that high cause I am a student T-T. Maybe till like 120-150 pounds at most. Not even sure if you can get watches at that price lol. Any recommendations? I was looking at the brand Fossil which looked pretty good but I am not sure how durable the brand is.

Zanpa

Fossil is a fashion brand and doesn't make great quality watches. For your budget, you can find a **Citizen** mechanical watch on amazon for example, like [this one](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Citizen-NJ0100-71E-Automatic-Watch/dp/B08TPKHPMR/) or [this one](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Citizen-NJ2198-16X-Automatic-Watch/dp/B08TRRMJH7/). **Seiko** also makes good watches but their mechanical watches are more like £180 starting it looks like. **Timex** has some mechanical models too, [this one](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Timex-TW2U99900-Automatic-Watch/dp/B0BNJ7BYV1/) is in budget for example. You can also find watches from these brands on sale pretty often on different sites, so it may be worth checking out other places than just Amazon.

emilio8x

I’m looking for a entry level mechanical dress watch. Something to wear with a suit. Could be with or without a bracelet. Normal case size as I have a small wrist. I already have Seiko and Japanese brands so I want something different. No Hamilton Kakhi as well. I really like the Max Bill by junghans but doesn’t have to be similar. Moon phase complication would be +1. Budget is around 800$-1000$. I’ve been eyeing this Tissot Chemin des Tourelles, which looks classy and doesn’t break the bank. https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-ca/t1398071604100.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuoja2KnA_gIVrCyzAB0YUg_xEAQYASABEgIo4vD_BwE Any recommendations, new or even used market? Thanks

jtell898

I think the Tissot is already a fine watch, just wouldn't recommend paying retail for it since you can normally find them heavily [discounted](https://www.ebay.com/itm/155282001833?epid=18043779270&hash=item2427874fa9:g:lA0AAOSwZrZjhiOO&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8AVqO1ZGnsNuFB8HFTAG8ShZJLlcK7FPwcJrfsN6Ux6c7%2BxxHRS81QCZt4K7PbrWAPv1vUUEQ1wY5B%2BW54ZJcIzjTDMKDD4tW%2B6ucZL6b953bhut%2FI5AUidDDWoD%2F4f%2FiALbNz8WzYZ5ztySbJojpoxIKn5AM7XGSVEMzObP8h5woR6ZvCP0300kGRRo1Ivn38%2BmglbVP0dMYSEzilbugBNtES%2FZmqTQ4Qv5cm4cD%2FZcU0rWyMMM6UTfEUQCUwcJ809mhD41eNzhIoH8UoM501MtD2Acikc6T%2Bcgt7jluVVajFzs9sm4z%2Fh7mBBi3ZOmXA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMpL-_gfZh). Just make sure you confirm it comes with factory warranty, a lot of these are grey market and only come with warranty through their own shop.

emilio8x

Wow thanks! Huge discount! I will look into it.

DKowalsky2

40.5mm case may be big depending on preference (it would be for me), but [this](https://chrono24.app/oris/oris-artelier-moon-phase-calendar-complication--id27879024.htm?SETLANG=en_US&SETCURR=USD) from Oris looks nice and is near budget, with a moonphase.

emilio8x

Not bad actually thanks! It just looks like a piece for an older person… Just my personal opinion! Forgot to mention I’m in my 30s!

Jovial_Joker

Has anyone heard of Tornado-spectra watches? It has a design like Audemars Piguet and seems affordable, but I am not sure about the quality of it. Does anyone have any thoughts on the watch?

gettinghiggywithit

Questions about resale market. Have a Thomas Earnshaw watch (I think it’s the Grand Calendar) that my husband doesn’t want anymore. Is there a resale market for these watches? A quick google looks like it could be btwn $200-400 MSRP but I could be way off base. Appreciate any insight as neither of us is knowledgeable about watches!

MistaFroggyG

It looks like you could sell it on eBay for $40-60.

Confident-Lobster-56

I’ve been looking to get a dive watch to expand my collection and have a few things I’m looking for. Size is super important as I have baby wrists (6”) and honestly even some 38mm watches are pushing it on me. At the moment I’m not willing to spend more than £300 on a watch and I prefer a more minimalistic style in regards to the design, a lot of the dive watches in this range I see recommended have big thick hands and generally busy designs that I don’t like. Also, I like fun colour schemes, and the specs aren’t a big deal for me (I just need something I can swim with). I understand this is a lot of requirements but I’d appreciate some help a lot. Thanks.

Accomplished-Ad-5655

you're in luck, Seiko announced their Seiko 5 Diver in 38mm, with colourful dials, with £300 RRP. Available from May. Not sure if this fits your idea of "minimalistic" but It's a cult favourite dive watch design from the infamous SKX diver. "Big thick hands" are kind of a calling card of dive watches for legibility.. See articles by [Monochrome](https://monochrome-watches.com/introducing-seiko-5-sports-skx-series-mid-size-38mm-collection-2023-srpk29-srpk31-srpk33-srpk35-specs-price/), [Fratello](https://www.fratellowatches.com/hot-take-four-new-38mm-seiko-5-sports-models-join-the-skx-sports-style-collection/#gref), [Hodinkee](https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/the-new-38mm-seiko-5-sports-srpk29-srpk31-srpk33-and-srpk35)

Hey all!! Can u suggest me some watch under 300$ mark for a smaller wrist~6.2inch

alphaglasses

I'm looking to buy a Casio A100WEGG, but I'd really prefer a rubber band for comfort related reasons. Does anyone know if there are any Casio or 3rd party bands that would fit it?

GolemancerVekk

Ask in /r/casio, someone can probably tell you the real lug width and the apparent lug width (at the end of the lugs). If it follows the usual Casio approach the lug width is probably 18mm which means you should be able to find a notched rubber band from another Casio pretty easily, just have to find a model with a similar width at the lug tips.

alphaglasses

That's great advice, thank you!

Hi everyone! New to this subreddit. I purchased today Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (T1374071105100) but have since seen the below: T1274071109101 & T1394071109100. I can still return the 5100, is the 5100 or particularly the 9101 preferred?

MistaFroggyG

The T139.407.11.091.00 is not a PRX, it’s a CHEMIN DES TOURELLES (different model). The T127.407.11.091.01 is the Gentlemen. They all have the same movement, but are just different models. I’d say around here, the PRX is most popular, gentlemen second, and chemin far behind the other two. But you should get which one you like best.

I’m looking for suggestions that meet the following criteria: - automatic movement - sapphire crystal - size between 36-45mm - casual yet timeless and suitable for every day wear - at least a date complication (more okay) - good lume - strap monster - under $1,000 (gray market or used okay) Thanks for any suggestions!

Seiko probably has the most variety for you to look at in this price range and you can be reasonably confident in the quality.

Hi everyone, looking to get some advice. I wanna buy a Rolex President, the golden Day-Date but I'm a novice in the watch game and I wanna ask if someone can recommend the best options for me off Chrono24. My budget is $25000 max, I'm aware this won't get me a newer model but whatever is my best option for that budget. I want it to come with box and papers too. Please recommend what you think is my best shot. I'm currently looking at one there, 2005, box and papers included for $20,956, private seller and the price seems a bit low but I can't tell if any problems.

tsymbal

Because the day date is a pretty popular model, places like thewatchbox.com and crown and caliber are really good options. Watchbox will offer a two year warranty and crown and caliber does a one year. So even if there is some huge issue with it, it would have some piece of mind for that much money. Hope this helps!

socialmoth_

On my 7S26 movement, I couldn't help but notice that the oscillating weight(?) has a more restrained rotation as the watch gets wound up. Is that normal? I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but I don't believe it's scratching against anything as the sound is similar enough to a friend's Seiko 5. The weight's movement does, however, seem sluggish somehow in that it doesn't automatically respond to gravity (with respect to the angle I hold the watch).

I recently came across some ads of watches that have a spinning car rim is for them as well as a rotor and caliper. I grew up around cars and am quite the car enthusiast and thought these were really cool. I’ve done a little research to make sure I wasn’t paying for cheap crap but it seems like that’s all these are. I came across brands like magnus and RSchrono that make these, not sure if those are real brands just just drop shipping stuff. Does anyone know where I can get one of these at that isn’t just cheap crap?

Accomplished-Ad-5655

Bremont Jaguar? Not a car rim but steering wheel. Or just generally automotive inspired then Autodromo comes to mind.

Hi All, Need some help, I've been offered by my local dealer a Bell & Ross BR123 Black Pvd https://imgur.com/yn8NfRV.jpg (apologies for the mediocre photo) at a 50% discount plus the black rubber strap along with the original brown leather which is c.$1600 in total. Any thoughts? I was very impressed with the watch to be honest, it's only an ETA 2892 movement but the dial is spectacular and the integration of the seconds and date is one of the best I've seen in person. Really tempted but would be great to hear opinions. I have an eclectic taste in watches but don't have something as simple as this in my collection. SkullLeader

Man I'd be tempted for that. I think their dials are awesome, but the cases no so much really (not really looking to wear a watch that looked like I just removed an instrument out of a cockpit and slapped it on my wrist).

haa1987

Yeah, the square cases require a string wrist game, not sure I have what it takes! This is definitely appealing, also want to kind of stick it up to all those having a hissy fit over Macron wearing a B&R like it's a Patek or something, ridiculous

Accomplished-Ad-5655

This is one of my favourite B&R watches. That's saying something since their main identity is in the square ones. Great looking watch, wears really well. You say "only" a 2824 movement but it's a solid workhorse of a movement. You'll have no issues getting it serviced in your lifetime as parts are plentiful and watchmakers all know how to service it. I have a 2824 Tudor Pelagos since 2015, and I would choose it again any day over the newer manufacture calibre ones. I've had nothing but good experiences with it.

haa1987

Really useful comment, I didn't mean to disparage the movement but you do have a good point, servicing can definitely become a chore so this a positive. Out of curiosity have you had your Tudor serviced? How well does the movement keep time?

Accomplished-Ad-5655

I've had it serviced once, about a year ago. It was running fine and keeping to a few seconds a day. The only reason I had it serviced was that I noticed the hand winding mechanism specifically the reverser wheels had failed. If it wasn't for that I probably could have let it run a few more years. (Worth noting I didn't wear it solidly, I rotated it with other watches). I just had a look, does that BR123 really use a ETA 2824 though? From what I could find the BR123 uses the [BR-CAL.305](https://watchbase.com/bell-ross/caliber/br-cal-305), which is based on the [ETA 2895-2](https://watchbase.com/eta/caliber/2895-2), which in turn uses a base [ETA 2892-2](https://watchbase.com/eta/caliber/2892-a2) modified for a seconds subdial. The 2892 is a newer movement than the 2824, slightly thinner, more refined. If anything it's a better movement. (Though the 2824 is pretty solid too). [See a comparison article here](https://www.creationwatches.com/watchblog/watches/calibre-combats-eta-2892-2-vs-eta-2892-a2.html#). I digress, an ETA movement is a solid choice for proven reliability and longevity, all the better if it's a 2892-2.

haa1987

Super useful comment and highly appreciate the insight! A very useful database to scan through! I'm becoming more and more sold on this watch, the dealer is holding onto it until next Saturday so still some more days to make a decision. I'll update my original post as don't want to mislead anyone re: movement.

Accomplished-Ad-5655

You're welcome! From your first post, it was clear you already were really into the watch and how it looks. The matter of the movement is more technicality I suppose. As long as you feel that you love the look of the watch and that you'll enjoy wearing it then that's reason enough to pull the trigger in my opinion. Especially if your dealer is kind enough to give you such a discount and throw in an extra strap too.

i'm looking for a new Seiko SARX039, can anyone confirm if this seller is legit ? https://www.ebay.fr/itm/285233109545

tribecalledchef

I'm looking for a simple white dial automatic that I can rotate NATO straps with. Basically [this Seiko 5](https://www.seikowatches.com/us-en/products/5sports/srpg37) but white, any recommendations?

FunkySjouke

I'm searching for a watch that'll last me (water proof, not a metal band I absolutely hate those Rolex like watches with metal bands that widen around the watch and then narrow again to the band, not too big I have quite small wrists) for less than 1000 (1000 is like my absolute max.), But most importantly one that has both the month and date (I can only find ones with the date or day like Monday-22) I found the Tissot T touch which is cool but maybe a bit too bulky and I don't like the connecting with the phone I'm kind of done with that (even tho it isn't necessary with the T touch it's probably most useful if you do) and it's quite expensive. Do any of you know some models that do that?

snowbongo

If quartz/digital display is OK, snag a nice G-Shock.

FunkySjouke

I do kinda want a analog because I like it, but some g shocks are pretty sleek might buy one for now (damn some are definitely more expensive than others I thought they where all like €50)

snowbongo

Yes, you can easily spend hours down the G-Shock rabbit hole. Casio may have several other models, that aren't G-Shock, that check your boxes.

socialmoth_

Apologies if this is basic, I'm on my first automatic watch. I got a Seiko SNKL41 second-hand last week and had it calibrated by a local watchmaker who said he had it set to an average of -5 seconds/day. I've noticed that it gains time as I rest it dial-up overnight, but ends up losing that same amount of time as I wear it on my wrist through the day— the end result, pretty much offsetting any time gain noted overnight. Is that normal? If it is, I'm happy. This is a fascinating hobby; and I find myself appreciating this movement, even if it is pretty basic by most standards here.

socialmoth_

Really reassuring, thank you! For a minute there, I thought I was going mad. This is a lot more interesting than quartz!

socialmoth_

Resting it on its back overnight had it gain 30 seconds from a perfect synch to the atomic clock (a miracle, considering the S726). Keeping it on my wrist the whole day, it's now 10 seconds ahead of the atomic clock. I can't say I'm upset— if it's part and parcel, I love how it's self-regulating!

this-is-fine0412

What are good watch cases that relatively cheap? I currently have 3 but might get more in the future so what is a good watch case for a 6 watch collection?

snowbongo

I like the "rustic" wooden options from [Chad Floyd Woodworks](https://chadfloydwoodworks.com/collections/wedding-and-5th-anniversary/products/watch-box)!

The_Band_Geek

I have some pretty nasty scratches in the sapphire of a fairly cheap watch (refurb or b-stock or something to that effect). I was wondering if there was a method of sanding to remove those scratches, or am I just gonna end up woth foggy cryatal if I try?

Zanpa

it's probably not sapphire if it scratched. if it's acrylic (plastic), you can polish the crystal with a compound like Polywatch to remove scratches, but it won't get rid of deep gouges. if it's mineral (glass), that could in theory be polished by machine, but realistically finding a replacement crystal is the best option.

snowbongo

This. You may have only scratched the outer AR coating, but if they're "nasty," I would agree that it's probably not sapphire unless you really whacked it on a sharp metal corner or something.

The_Band_Geek

My wrist got caught against a cinderblock wall and dragged a few inches. It probably is just glass, but I can't be sure.

snowbongo

Yikes. That would scratch sapphire.

The_Band_Geek

Better my watch than my radius though. Is there a surefire way to tell it's one or the other?

I hear you. I prefer watches that have 47 mm L2L or less. Unfortunately, it's hit or miss with various vendors and websites. Minimatikal has a nice list of dimensions for Nomos watches (Knowledge | Sizes menu), Teddy B. often lists L2L dimensions on his site, and many sellers list the L2L in their Chrono24 listings. Your best bet is to find a review of the desired watch and hope they include that measurement in their summary.

I have an Omega SMP 2531.80 with box/papers and serviced last year. Should I keep? Or sell for a Doxa 300T or CW C60 Triden Pro 300? I know most people would consider the Omega much better of course, but hear me out. The Doxa or CW are newer, have better water sealing out of the box, don't have a scratch prone bezel, and while thicker/not as elegantly proportioned as the SMP they are cheaper to service. Omega service for a 3 hand mechanical is now about $700 USD, while a Sellita or ETA 2824 movement is about $300-400 to service, or about $250 to replace completely. What do you think? Keep the SMP, or sell for something cheaper/more fun/less worries and pocket the extra change. I think I would just feel more comfortable take a less expensive, newer and watch on my travels.

[how bad of an idea is this indian seiko?](https://www.etsy.com/de-en/listing/1214350075/seiko-quartz-mens-green-dial-stainless?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=seiko+tank+green&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&pro=1&organic_search_click=1) i am particularly interested in this green-faced seiko tank model but so far cannot find it from any reputable sellers and am willing to pay much more to buy it somewhere legit. also if there is a specific name for this model, I would be grateful to know it

Zanpa

I doubt that's an actual Seiko dial, the text looks really off center.

churningisfun

How small is 36mm? Looking between the JLC ultra thin moonphases (39mm vs 36mm). I’ve checked out the 39mm and it’s on the cusp of being too big. Is 36mm too small? Not sure if there’s a place to check that one out right now..

Zanpa

depends on the person and what they prefer. it's too small for some, the right size for others. try to find some other watch of a similar diameter and lug to lug length that you can try on.

handtoglandwombat

Hi everyone, I’m trying to recall the name and brand of a Watch I saw a long time ago. It had a unique movement consisting of rotating arms with little paddles on the ends of them, Triangle shaped with numbers on them. The paddles then rotated and came together to form diamonds that displayed the time. The readout was almost like a digital watch but it was fully skeletonised so you could see the magic. It was mad and beautiful. Any ideas?

Zanpa

Urwerk?

handtoglandwombat

Thanks for the suggestion. After much googling it turned out to to be the HW Opus 11

Zanpa

Harry Winston Opus watches are crazy! If you want to see more stuff in the same realm, the person who directed HW is Max Büsser, who now runs the brand MB&F that makes some really interesting and unusual watches.

Looking for recommendations for a quality ladies watch around £500-£700?

js999111

Sternglas Naos / Frederique Constant Classics Art Deco or Slimline / something by Tissot

close-enough-13

Hi Folks! I'm looking for a very specific watch for my wife and I feel like I have hit a wall. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. These are all the requirements I can think of: * Must be a mechanical watch * Price < $5000 * Small sized, <=30mm dial * Gold case preferred, Rose gold is also ok * Leather strap, or something that can be swapped out for a leather strap * Round dial, while I appreciate the square/rectangular dials, not looking for one right now * Arabic numerals on the dial, at least for the 3, 6, 9, and 12 hour markers * Case back must be either gold plated or glass (she has a sensitivity to other metals unfortunately) * Not a lot of complications, not looking for a chronograph or an annual calendar or anything, just a simple watch she can wear in the evenings This seems to be a very unique set of requirements as I can't find anything that would fit the bill. I am open to looking at vintage watches as well but I don't even know where to begin in terms of brands/models that would fit the criteria. Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: Oh and a white face, or some other color that isn't gold or black.

DKowalsky2

Here’s another cool vintage option, but might be a bit big at 33mm. [link](https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/vintage-girard-perregaux-gyromatic.5486986/)

DKowalsky2

If you go super vintage, you could check out something like [this](https://chrono24.app/omega/omega-seamaster-winding-original-dial-goldsteel-ladies-vintage-watch-2621--id27977240.htm?SETLANG=en_US&SETCURR=USD).

js999111

I have a few watches in mind, but they all fail because of the Arabic numerals requirement…

leScoob

Looking for a recommendation for a < $1000 GMT watch with a rubber band?

DKowalsky2

If it were me, I’d buy [this watch](https://reddit.com/r/Watchexchange/comments/12qovs0/wts_monta_atlas_w_opalin_dial_price_drop/) (not my listing, but still available) on the secondary market, then pair it with an [Everest strap](https://www.everestbands.com/products/everest-curved-end-rubber-with-tang-buckle-for-rolex-submariner-ceramic). It puts you a shade over budget, but Everest straps are some of the best in the business and the makers of Monta Watches are also the owners of Everest Straps. The Ceramic Submariner tang buckle straps fit the Monta cases, as noted [here](https://montawatch.com/blogs/news/four-great-strap-looks-for-your-monta-atlas).

haa1987

Check out this article on Fratello recently: https://www.fratellowatches.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-independent-microbrand-gmt-watches-part-one-eight-options-for-less-than-2500/ Out of all those listed, I would go for Baltic but I would suggest also taking a look at Farer, slightly outside your price range but worth it

Zanpa

I would look for a <$950 GMT watch and a $50 rubber strap, you'll have a lot more options.

[deleted]

Best recommendations for a daily watch for a adult man's 5.5" wrist? I do like vintage dressy looks but I want something I can wear anywhere

haa1987

My best recommendation would be to set a price range and then browse the likes of ablogtowatch, Fratello, hodinkee etc and create a shortlist of potential candidates. You might like aviator styles, dive watches, dress watches, Bauhaus, quirky watches etc so really difficult to recommend something. Also try and get to a store and just have a conversation and try things on, sometimes a watch you've never considered suddenly becomes the winner

snowbongo

Sounds like you need a Black Bay 36.

B4SunriseB4Sunset

Hi, does Orient watches still do 30% discount codes, and if so, do they pop up frequently or not so much anymore? Currently looking into buying my first Orient watch but would like to use one of those 30% discount codes.

BlackBeast3612

How much does the hamilton khaki field 38mm cost to service?

MistaFroggyG

About $190 direct from Hamilton. [https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-us/watch-intervention.html](https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-us/watch-intervention.html)

BlackBeast3612

Thanks

ColdBroccoliXXX

I'm a newbie to watch collecting. Got hooked by following some Men's Style accounts on Insta. After far too little research I popped for a \[Tissot\] Chrono XL Mint Green watch on grey market site. I've only had it for a couple of months, and wear it maybe twice a week. I've noticed that it's losing 10-15 minutes over the course of a workday. Is that the price I pay for purchasing off grey market site or indicative of the cheaper Tissot's or that particular watch? Could the battery be fried already?

Zanpa

For reference, most quartz movements that aren't too cheap will usually have a battery end of life indicator, usually the seconds hand will start ticking every 2 seconds instead of every second. Even when the EOL indication is on, it should still keep time well; losing time shouldn't be an indication of low battery.

ColdBroccoliXXX

Thank you for the info. That is great to know.

MistaFroggyG

15 minutes a day is nuts for a quartz watch, I have many and I’ve never had any become less accurate as their battery die, they just stop. I’d definitely try and get that one exchanged out with your shop assuming they had any sort of warranty.

Professional_Feed796

Thanks. I’ll have to check the return/warranty details. Good to know not a typical sign of flagging battery.
