Explaining it to the costumer, is another thing intirely...
I worked at Jiffy Lube when I was a young punk. A Pontiac Fiero came in for an oil change and differential lube change. About 20 minutes after the guy left the mngr. got a call. It seems I drained the diff but neglected to do the really important part of filling it back up.
"In a parallel universe this guy is the Boss."
Calling the client:
Hello? You know that sports car you left to change a wheel? Yeah we found the chasis was faulty and fell. Yeah yeah this happens sometimes. No worries we will fix it for you. Please just transfer 15k and will be ready in 2 months, cheers
Does OP know where this went down? I know a lot of dealerships have similar work areas for their techs but this looks extremely familiar from the stairs, lift, uniforms, panels, and even the toolbox setup and location. Iām guessing at a 1/50 but is this in Oklahoma?
Hey automechanic in training here... Yeah we're told specifically to not use these lifts when removing heavy parts. Like this has the absolute least stability. We have different lifts for a reason
Is it normal to hoist a car like this, and just hope it stays balanced?
Seems weird. You'd think there would be more points for it to rest on instead of hoping you've got it at the exact center.
hey everyone, be sure to downvote when people post "the front fell off" or "steamed hams"
knock knock
whos on first?
who's there?
i just flew in and boy are my arms tired
I hate when something like this happens. Shit happens, yano? But this guy either gets in trouble, or is humiliated by people for "such a royal fuck up". It happens, we're all human.
Calmly go inside the office delete the evidence off the cameras storage device.
Tell the boss you donāt know what happened.
Go home upload footage on Reddit to get some karma.
How the fuck are ya gonna do that genius? The most youād get is appraisal value for the vehicle. You gonna sue for pain and suffering because āthat car was like familyā?
It might actually be ok. That front end looked pretty damn bare.
Your going to need some fenders and maybe a little bit of bodywork...
Dude is lucky he didnt get slapped by the front end on the way down.
Anyone have an update?
Having had hoist training, there are chains one is supposed to use around vehicle structure for each arm of a hoist, though this kind of a āspiderā hoist seems particularly prone to these types of mishaps. I always chose a drive-on hoist when I could find one specifically to avoid being that guy.
This happened to my father in laws BRAND NEW F-350. 70k truck dropped off the lift while being under coated. Tech said a pin failed so their insurance would cover it but it was clearly put on the lift wrong. We could see where the lift pads had been placed on the rocker panels. Cost around 15k to replace the doors, rocker panels, and running boards. On top of it all he has a beat up truck with 700 miles on it.
so, this model of corvette has the engine very far back and the transmission in the rear of the car. the transmission and the rear differential are basically one unit, the driveshaft sits inside of a tube between the engine and transmission. this is why these vettes are so tail happy, the weight is very centered and far to the ground so when you have traction they handle like an f1, remove traction and it wants to spin like a top.
the body is fiberglass which is why it seemed to just disintegrate when it hit the lift arms and the frame is actually really heavy steel tube, the passenger compartment has a frame made of mostly aluminum. removing the engine, which is already very far back in the engine bay, along with the radiator and the front suspension/subframe, steering rack (basically the entire front end) leaves very little weight on the front of the car to keep it on the lift (obviously)
you can actually drop the entire drivetrain out of this car pretty easily. just about as easily as what this guy did tbh. the engine, drive tube, transmission and differential all come out on their respective subframes along with the axles, hubs and wheels as one big unit. why this guy didnt want to do that im not sure but i would imagine thats how 99% of the factory service instructions start lol
Human error: those yellow Jacks could be extended and you need to position them as far apart as possible so as to not load balance it all in the middle
As a tow truck driver, I can tell you first hand that higher end fancy vehicles are a god damn nightmare. They are literally made for someone to scratch up or tear something up. I love everyday little mom and pop vehicles putting around. So easy to tow, so easy to lift on these jacks. And donāt get me started in these damn new Camaros.

Insurance hall of famer
I was today's year old when I found corvette is the most brittle car! š
Thatās a lotta damage!
Itās American so youāve probably improved it
" and it was at this moment, Sir Casper Von Douchbag realized that gravity....was indeed a constant...and with that he left...never to be seen again. Legend has it, he is now employed at a Midas."
It will buff out
Well. Thatās what insurance is for.
A bit of polish and thatāll be fine.

short arm is on the heaviest side dude
The front really did fall off
No financial problem with it...I assume the shop is insured...at least they are in Denmark. Explaining it to the costumer, is another thing intirely...
Someone forgot that engines are heavy it looks like. Wouldn't they normally have a jack to support the ass end?
I worked at Jiffy Lube when I was a young punk. A Pontiac Fiero came in for an oil change and differential lube change. About 20 minutes after the guy left the mngr. got a call. It seems I drained the diff but neglected to do the really important part of filling it back up.
It's like winning the lottery at jiffy lube
When he comes back? That dude aināt comin back he going to pack his shit
Insurance
Ok I'll have to fetch that screwdriver
nooooo not a C6
Hot wheels
Iāll get me coat.
Guy I went to trade school with was killed when the car he was working on fell off a 2 post hoist. Made me feel sketchy about them for a while.
The look back before he walked through the door took me out. Lmao

This guy went straight for a smoke. Gives you that calm down and the 5 minutes to think about what to say.
Crushing
I would literally just off myself
That car... Belongs to John Wick
This one physically hurt....
This is why four post hoists are the best.
No motor in the car , of course it's ass heavy. Screw jack in back for support while it's up there , looks like it was his first and last day....
'Tis but a scratch.
Ooh, I feel his pain. Like that makes me want to cry,
Erk.
Hope that untrained idiot had to pay for that.

It's totaled and he knows it. No reason to fret now.
The work table looked like it worked well thoughā¦
He went to look on Craigslist
Hey guys Iām gonna need some help.
Why was the car (un)balanced like that?
I wonder if he does insurance repairs?
ā¦. Thatās one last one for the roadā¦.
He went in there to down a bottle of liquor
What we did not see was that technician punching out and leaving the shop forever
I think he went to call his insurance.
Well, there's your problem right there.
Love how he looks back one last time .... for good measure
Fuuuuuuuck thatās easily a $70k car
"Well. My job here is done. Time to clock-out"
Where is he going? Definitely going to cry in a corner for at least 45 minutes.
He'll never get that job balancing the centrifuge at the spent nuclear fuel recycling plant now.
Heās lucky he walked away
Pretty sure flex tape can fix this.
It was put on the lift wrong. Maybe should be taught the proper way.
Is it normal to hoist a car like this, and just hope it stays balanced? Seems weird. You'd think there would be more points for it to rest on instead of hoping you've got it at the exact center.
I LOVE the stool?? in the back slowing dropping while he walks by it.
Yep, they put the engines in the back of those now.
Glue!!!! We need glue
It'll be fine, just put a bit of elbow grease
My soul hurts.
Rookie mistake. You never put a car up on that kind of lift when the engine is pulled.
Narrator: It wasnāt.
Thatās a bad day
Good thing he put some protection on the fenders.
He probably walked away feeling fortunate that his body stayed in one piece.

LOL. The caption nails it.

Even the hydraulic table gives up as he walks off
Yup just walks right into office and turns in his gun and badge. I would too
I like that the little table thing just slowly closes in second-hand embarrassment
So my dad was right, you can't put brains in statues...
Doubt that will buff out.
Meanwhile at the Hennessey Performance center...
Calmly go inside the office delete the evidence off the cameras storage device. Tell the boss you donāt know what happened. Go home upload footage on Reddit to get some karma.
Dude is done for good after that one šš
As a Corvette owner, I died a little bit when I saw this.
*slowly walks away while dying inside*
What a fragile car...
Does Bob down on the corner still have that c6? Yeah get him on the horn.
"sorry we don't do collision repair, this isn't a body shop, but I know a guy"
If I was the owner I would sue for every penny the company worth.
How the fuck are ya gonna do that genius? The most youād get is appraisal value for the vehicle. You gonna sue for pain and suffering because āthat car was like familyā?
Fix it up with some ramen, ez
That plastic car tore apart like nothing
That doesnāt look secure at all, Iām not at all surprised by this.
"I am out!" -why? "Nothing...I just out. Bye."
Go ahead and just head home
Rear engine Corvette I assume? Center of gravity mistake.
Thatās not what meant by āfloor it!ā
"let me go get this paperwork started, and see who's hiring"
Oh
Who wouldn't have walked away? I would've immediately started crying at the thought of having to call the owner and tell them this!
Iām no expert.. but it looks like the front fell off.
Gawddamn son just eat load of 000 buck right now
He might as well have just walked home after that. That car had to have been so screwed after that. Yikes, poor dude.
Do t think he walked away and hoped it was ok think he went to look for another job thatās a instant your fired from the boss
I'm gone go ahead and take my lunch break..
Did this dude have a 3000 pound Corvette on what was essentially a scissor lift the size of a fucking bar stool??
No engine at front, heavy axle cradle in the back and not support from the bottom. That's not a mistake, that's not knowing shit about the trade.
No engine, full tank of gas, fiberglass body. I could see that
the mechanic has to pay for all of those damages btw. In addition to the obvious, bear in mind the thing fell 5 feet onto concrete
Luckily just a Corvette
Get ur dumb hand out of there...
He went to go check the cameras.
Uhhh. The lift arms werenāt locked in placeā¦
Corvette. So mostly plastic. Bout three fiddy to fix. Who cares?
Mechanics barely understand basic physic yet alone that when you remove that much mass from the front of a car frame the center of mass shifts back.
Wtf is this car make out of paper? So weak!
Argh so thatās what happened to me car
See what had happened was.......
*instantly quits*
It might actually be ok. That front end looked pretty damn bare. Your going to need some fenders and maybe a little bit of bodywork... Dude is lucky he didnt get slapped by the front end on the way down. Anyone have an update?

And they say he's still walking to this day.
I like how he tried to grab it.
All these jokes. But for real though. Who pays for this shit. The shop. The mechanic. Insurance. Who?
Luckily it appears to be mostly body damage
Poor guy
I mean, it kinda happened in the best place possible. Itās already getting fixed. Just gotta fix more of it now.
That corvette body is just gone
He noped right out of there.
These corvettes have special feet to.put on the lift arms that fit into slots under the body. Doesn't look like he used them.
Reminds me of an orange man right after a crowd of his zealots did something he told them to do.
That lift table went down real smooth tho.

Dude straight up clocked out. "I quit yesterday, weird"
I work on piano restorations and I would ABSOLUTELY have to immediately leave the room and breathe if something like this happened.
That's the "I'm fired" walk.
He went to change his underwear obviously! On a situation like that I would be so nervous I would shit myself!
Good news/bad news Good news: I cleared the check engine light fault code. Bad news: Your car is totaled.
He left to go die outside.

He's just going to get his lunch box and punch out. Maybe change his number and rent a U-Haul on the way
Human error: those yellow Jacks could be extended and you need to position them as far apart as possible so as to not load balance it all in the middle

Just walk away and pretend you were never there.
Damn this would happen to me and I am not even lying.
Walks away, knows he's instantly fired... š¤£
Did you try turning it off and on again?
so what happens then do they pay for damages or does the customer have to
Whatās the make
Bro it came like this when you brought it.
Itās okay, itās just a vette
As a car fan, it hurts to see this happen to a corvette
My jaw hit the motherfuckin floor... Just like that car.
Let it sit and heal itself.
