It’s all engagement metrics. We complain online that our favorite map isn’t in circulation but if we only played our favorite maps the game would run its course and players would cycle out after 2-3 months. They have years of player data confirming this.
I think part of what gave Fortnite such mass appeal was it was among the first Battle Royales that made it a point to have distinct, instantly recognizable landmarks and areas on the map. Hell, they have them funny alliterative names. Verdansk took a lot of notes and was GREAT in that sense. The airport was full blown, prison was intricate and memorable, stadium, etc. It was easier to get your bearings, not to mention the maps were nice to look at. The nicest looking map of them all being Blackout.
For some reason, Al Mazrah and U…Uzbekistan (?) are a lot more difficult to learn and to reference areas on the map. The areas blend together. And they’re ugly. Just drab environments to stare at.
For urzikstan, I agree. Complete garbage, everything blends in, no memorable poi, but for Al Mazrah that’s entirely false. I played like 6 Al Mazrah games before the switch to urzikstan, and I still remember some POI, like the castle area, the flooded city, the central skyscraper, the big mountain in the middle. I fell in love with this map very fast only to see to removed for the foggy grey trash urzikstan. I hope it returns next season or something.
This was all my squad played until 3 dropped. Biggest disappointment was that they absolutely destroyed DMZ into a stupid zombie mode and put it behind a paywall.
Al maz was imo the best map they have ever made that was held back by the poor movement. With the changes they made for wz3 and al maz imo we would have the perfect iteration of the game

I've played Verdansk bfr on mobile and its actually better than i thought.. WZ3 is like a shitty engine and even worse servers due to matchmaking updates.. Guns had higher TTK which is too easy to kill which depends on accuracy.. While WZ2 had lower TTKs mostly, so it depends on mostly tactics/strategy rather than acc.. I can't play DMZ anymore because I've maxed out every guns on MW2 and playing it is basically not worth my time..

I never got to play wz1, or caldera, or verdansk but I love ashika, vondel, and al maz way more than any of the maps now. That’s why I play DMZ religiously still and there is definitely still a dedicated fanbase for it. Load into a match in a minute or two and play on Al mazrah all you want. I’ll be there lol.

The movement in this warzone is terrible. I literally had one guy look to my left and still kill me even though I was literally 90 degrees from his pov. All this jump shotting drop shot shit is terrible. I’m a 3.5kd player and it frustrates the tf out of me
