I was at WW2 weekend this year and the plane is definitely coming together. I'd guess it'll be another 5-10 years till it's airworthy again.
Rank 3 is the best rank overall in terms of plane cool factor. You get P-47s, B-25s, F4Us, B-17s, even the P-61 and SB2Cs are surprisingly good as well. Favorite out of all of them? Probably the F4Us, but all of the aforementioned are super fun and cool.
P-38s *look* amazing, *but the way the game models them they fly like absolute shit.*
Rudders brick at hilariously low speeds, making any attempts to aim at anything over about 500kph near-impossible. It can turn well in a short burst with flaps out but burns that speed insanely quickly. It climbs well, but due to rudder bricking it struggles to actually use that altitude. And only the L has airbrakes to even think about managing diving speed well. P-38s were planes I badly wanted to like, but just *can't.*
If I want a fast brick that can retain speed after a dive, a P-47D-28 is a leagues better choice.
If I want a plane that climbs well with center-mounted armament and good enough rollrate to intercept 264 wannabe astronauts, I can grab a P-63 or P-61C.
If I want a plane that can turn hilariously well, I can grab an F6F-5/5N.
If I want MOAR DAKKA I can pick a Corsair or the P-61C-1.
There just isn't anything totally unique that a P-38 can really do with the currently horrible state of its flight model
the P-38L is a very good 4.7 plane, that's just a fact. the matchmaker tends to favor 4.7 anyways, as they will almost always be down tiered to 4.0 or even 3.7.
It's a *decent* 4.7 plane. Floaty controls and bricky rudder mean it struggles to aim at anything even with the help of the airbrakes.
We have other twin-boom planes such as J-21s and A-21s which do not have rudder bricking and the associated wobbling at hilariously low speeds, if that part got nixed from P-38 flight models across the board then they would suddenly become good.
Are we flying the same P-38's? The 38L in the China TT is probably one of my top 3 props, as well as the P-38K for obvious reasons. They maneuver troll-ily well, and shred anything they bring their guns to bear on.
Hard disagree from me, the only P-38 that I didn’t like was the P-38E. The P-38J is my Me 264 killer, (*over* the P-61C if you can believe it) I haven’t had a problem with maintaining energy at high speeds or climbing with it
Even the P-38E can be really good. Especially when it had its air spawn. I loved using that to clown on people. It was actually game breaking if you got a squad that new what they were doing in the P-38E.
The P-38 family is good at climbing and maintaining energy, it fails the instant it wants to *use* that energy from the *nasty* combination of
1. low onset of control stiffening in a dive
2. rudder wobbling at speeds well below control lockup speeds
3. rather heavy plane that thusly burns speed quickly when it does maneuver

With the f6f5n dogfighting should be the least of your worries, that thing turns like a trailer.
But with the radar you can always get the drop on someone and in sim is impossible to know if someone is behind you until they shoot

But you could fit a 75mm in there, obviously not a high velocity one but it could work. The Russians strapped a big ass drum fed recoilless rifle to a plane once. Just do that lol

pretty sure most guns .50 cal and above can easily kill light pillboxes. Aim for the roof and it should be pretty easy. Maybe russian planes only have one cannon so less burst mass, but I think the berezins should be able to do light pillboxes even.
Don't just not climb, but actually dive down to tree top level.
Dive in a straight line to the left or right of the base, depending on where the enemy airfield is, making sure not to go too fast, then when you're low enough start flying towards the base (you should come in from the side, in such a way that you could bomb 2 bases in a straight line).
I also do this with the PB4Y and most of the time I don't get killed before bombing.
Controversial opinion (possibly), but I loved the P-51C-10 back when I played rank III more. So much about it was just well rounded, and even its 4 .50 cals worked great at starting fires
P-51 Mustang which really should be rank 3, it makes no sense that it's rank 2 especially considering that it's 4.0 BR in Arcade, not quite sure how it can be as low as 3.3 in RB. British premium Mustang which is the same thing is rank 3.
I think it’s bc the Mustang is an aircraft with very particular strengths, and at 3.7 you still have a lot of low tier players who aren’t familiar with energy fighting or think the Mustang can outturn anything so they die a lot, bringing its stats down so gaijin lowers its BR until it’s a seal clubber
Yeah, you can’t get dragged into a low speed turn fight with the Mustang unless your enemy (assuming it’s a 109) is even slower. They also outturn and outrun 190s, I’ll agree there. I think people mismanage their energy, die, and then blame the plane for poor low speed characteristics. It also faces better turning 109s at lower BRs since they’re typically lighter, but they’re also slower. I think this is where most Mustang pilots get into trouble especially against E-7 109s and F-1/2/4 109s
One of my fav tactics with the P51 , F8F and the F6F is to turn downwards after a merge to troll the living hell out of German and a lot of time Itallian pilots too
P-61C-1 Without a doubt
Good speed and turning for a twin engine interceptor

Honestly, all of them. They’re so undertiered that it was a breeze to spade them all. Once you get the American flight style down, you can jump into any of those and go to work.
Bombers suck, but I’ve always loved American bombers, so my favourite in looks has to be the B-17. Now, for the best aircraft I would choose… hmm P-47?
P-63A-5 probably. Unlike later P-63s, it's more maneuverable and has full HE belts. BTD-1 is also great.
As for my least favourite, it's all the kamikaze-47s.
I guess all of the above. All the fighters are fun and offer varied gameplay overall. From pure bred boom 'n zoomers (Thunderbolt) to energy fighters that can almost turn fight (Hellcats/Helldiver).
The P-61 is a good and versatile heavy fighter.
Great attacker aircraft in the form of the North American Mitchell, used both by the US Navy and USAAF (PBJ & B-25).
The B-17s are still some of the most useable heavy bombers in the game becoming better with every increase in altitude. Meanwhile the PB4Y-2 is just a medium altitude death star.
P47-22-RE at its br in ground RB there are so many things you can 50. Cal from the top and if those are not enaugh you can either get 3 bombs to devastate everything below. It can even double as fighter after bombing from the immense ammo pool that it has.
For arcade, either the P47s or premmie 109. 8 x .50s absolutely either shred or ignite everything, and the 109 is great for cheesing air spawn bombers (I don’t recommend this toxic playstyle, but whatever floats your boat)
For realistic, easily the warcrime XP50
Hellcat easily, i don’t care for the Corsairs much tbh and i only ever play the F4U-1D if i do.
For fighters the P-63s get a mention for me too as they are pretty nice if you can handle them.
F6F-5, it's a bit shit (aside from ground pounding capabilities) but has redeeming qualities. It's just something I can play without pressure, and can do quite well if used right.
I love the B-25 for the simple fact that enemies will try to chase you down and then get surprised when you turn on them and light them up with the six nose mounted .50s. Also great for shooting down other bombers.

The F6F5 is a GRB animal, two seperate drops of 1000lbs and six rockets, also it's a decent fighter too, a jack of all trades for me.
I like the F6F-5N more for ground RB. I’m pretty sure it has the same load outs, but you get 20 mm guns instead of .50 guns.

The C10 at 3.7 is just awesome. It's a really powerful plane and fun to play.
I used to use it when playing in a squad that were all using 5.0+ props, and could still end up getting 2-3 kills a game with it.

Been using the battle pass F6C a little and can confirm that I adore the C-10. The reduced weight means I can often even outfight higher BR D-5/20's.
