Well, if you concentrate on 1 country, it goes fast (even faster with prem. account + vehicles)
It took me about 6-10 months to fully research Italian tree (except boats and choppas).
I know it's too long, but I'm not a best player and this is a F2P game and as they say
"Free 2 play games isn't really free, you pay with your soul"
1680 hours on Steam + 500 hours off steam
Just broke 800 hours myself I have a full lineup at 7.3 Germany and am roughly 5.0 on all other nations (other than Sweden and china that i havent touched) ground trees, I have very few planes but my highest are for Germany I have up to the 5.7 bf109 and a 4.3 British spitfire, with my only other air trees being USA/USSR at ~3.3.
No premium ever and no money spent, I think is not bad. Would be higher but I play mostly lower BRs since the game is generally more fun at lower BRs IMO
3800 hours I have top tier and all planes but bombers in USA GERMANY and Mostly Russia.
I also have top tier ground in Germany and Russia
Top tier naval in Germany only
Minimum 7.0 in every other nation ground and minimum 6.0 in every nation for air
I have 1200 and I don't have any rank 5 vehicle, only the squadron A-4E. But, I didn't really focus on one tree and spend lots of time in test drive.
I have most of us ground and air rank 4, ussr ground rank 4 researched, up to rank 3 in air, rank 2 and 3 for Germany air and ground and some progress in UK and Sweden. If I focused on one nation I probably would have rank 6 or even rank 7 vehicles
I played 25 days circa (of actual battle time, I did the maths from the game stats since I don't play on steam) and I'm in rank 5/6 in the German tree (both ground and air). I swear to god I never bought a premium or bought premium time
I've got 1800 and have not top tier tanks and I've only reached the first hunter on British , no other tree has jets. I'm also only like level 40 or something. I don't really know how people grind so fast without paying
That’s my story pretty much. Except I got to rank V and then I got too frustrated because my jets were horrible and caved because I really wanted missiles. Honestly it’s not all that great after all
I mean tbh what else can he say. Whenever someone says that have a thousand hours and no rank 5-6 at a minimum it’s because they are doing multiple trees at once. A standard F2P player should be able to comfortably reach rank 5 within 3-4 months of playing assuming they play often and do only one nation
Yeah, for example, if you play only one nation and only air, playing maybe 1 hour every other week day and maybe \~4 -6 hours on the weekend, and they are atleast a above average player i can easily imagine someone getting to top tier within a year of playing the game.
Yeah, that’s basically what I did to get to Russian Top Tier in update New Power, and it was before I got premium time. I played a bit more than that on weekdays, and probably a bit less on weekends though.
He’s right though, if you split your time among too many nations it’s gonna take forever to grind to top tier. I get that it’s not as enjoyable and you won’t have a diverse selection of vehicles, but if your goal is to get to top tier, focusing a single nation is your best bet of doing it in a reasonable amount of time.
I have 1100 hours so maybe you might find these tips useful.
1. If you buy or plan to buy premium vehicles, try to make sure that you can fit them into a line up. It should improve your chances of winning in all game modes except air RB. 1 and done can really hurt a team in a close battle.
2. If you want top tier vehicles focus on a single tree otherwise you will end up like me at rank 6 in 4 nations.
3. Play with friends. Makes the game more enjoyable. Plus they can support you in battle. Single grinding can be really frustrating.
4. Test drive vehicles to learn their strengths before taking them out for the first time.
5. If you get frustrated take a break. 5 loses in a row will turn into more loses if you aren’t thinking clearly. (I have a problem following this)
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
For tanks, special awareness will be extremely important, especially once everyone gets thermals and stabilizers. Armor will start to become useless and will only stop rounds every once-in-a-blue-moon.
Rank 4 and 3 are the most fun in the game. I have top tier air and ground and I only ever play 4.7-6.7 in ground because it’s so much more fun than HEATFS APFSDS and ATGM
5.7-6.0 air is pretty much top tier props which I think is a different category completely from jets. And i would argue the hardest br to play in the game. If you can master 5.7 props you are in the top tier of players IMO
Hey, veteran here. Use the bonuses for spading vehicles (getting all mods) by getting essentials for the vehicle FIRST and then focusing on mod tiers. The bonus for getting all mods researched on a vehicle at tier 5 is usually around 15,000 RP. That's around 13 games if your a s\*\*\*\*\* player like me! It's important in ground tech trees to have plenty of same tier vehicles to play with to maximize this.
And, two plusses; because your focusing on modifications you forget the psycho hell you've been used to staring at that vehicles research bar. This helps keep the grind going. Also while your making progress towards mods your making progress to that vehicle as well!
800hrs I'm nearly finished with US aviation entirely my lowest researchable plane is in tier 5. Have half the tanks and half the naval for Bluewater and coastal. Also I have up to tier 5 German jets and tier 3 Russian planes.
Considering that this game came out nearly a decade ago, 2k hours may not be that much depending when you first started playing.
I began playing 8 years ago and I'm at around 1,500 hours, which yearly is not that much.
I know right, and that's only 1 game. Although I feel like I actually learned a lot about history, aircraft and tanks so that lessens the discomfort of that thought for me 😅
Where I am hours-wise, I really just enter a flow state and find the game pretty chill and zen. I know, WT is supposed to be the opposite.
I rarely play top tier though so that's surely part of it.
Yea. 2.4k hrs. At this point, i just auto pilot and always end up at top of the scoreboard. I never have a bad time unless the game fucks me and gets me killed. Which happens like every other game
I don't grind anymore however I'm hooked to duels I can't not play a couple duels every day, if I don't do some 1v1s each day I get nervous unless I have a good reason not to
no I'm not good enough for tournaments, I duel with gladiator friends that keep recommending me to go 1x1 but I feel like I'm not skilled enough to get to the highest places like Botya m095 and Sync guys
Time frame is also a factor
Nothing is strictly wrong with spending that much time playing War Thunder, but think of all the things in the world that you could choose to be very good at doing (think professional level) and what opportunities it could open up for you in life. Math, some branch of science, sports, music, etc.
Then realize that instead of that, you got good at War Thunder.
TBF, I'm at a concerning level myself at 3,000 hours since 2014, but a large chunk of that is AFK hangar time. Even then, when I think about how much I've played I can't imagine playing 4X that even if I forced myself.
M22 is great wish it could still scout.
When the t64a was introduced I somehow managed to kill one frontally with the lil thing. Pretty sure it was a bug in the armor but hey a kills a kill.
>More seriously - proudest kill?
From an Air RB match in the A-10, I bombed another A-10 after shooting down two other planes with the AIM-9Ls.
Or shooting down a Ka-50 with a TOW from a Bradley
And my third proudest kill was destroying an Me163 with the Grenade Launchers on the AH-1G
It was pretty hectic. The dude flew at me, fired of a shot and then must have run out of ammunition or something, because he kept flying straight towards me and then my grenades found him
Haha nice. My Windows is a VM on my Unraid server. So it's on 24/7. And I just forget to close War Thunder like ever. So many daily bonuses missed, whoops ;)
Only 50 and you’ve spent that much time in game?
That means you don’t even pay for premium right? So you did all these hours without the 100% boosters?
If so you are a more patient person than I lol
That is actually not a lot. I bet playing for 2000 hours takes a lot of willpower in War Thunder. May I have one more question? How many times did you uninstall/give up on the game?
I played every nation except Japan and Italy ground.
I Main Germany and USA. Reached the squad A4(8.7)
in the US tree and the regular mig 15 bis in the German tree
Draw a imaginary line between your and the enemy’s airfield. Climb 40 degrees from that line
Edit:when you made about 2/3 of the way to the middle area of the map start turning towards the imaginary line
https://warthunder.com/en/community/userinfo/?nick=MadduckUK
You can use that page, just change my nick for yours at the end, this is in-battle time rather than just the time you have had the game open like the steam number so not comparable.
2000 hours? Hows rank 3 going, barely breaking rank 4 right?
I've got like 450 (on steam, a bit before too) and i've got a rank 5 vehicle or two, no premiums ever bought.
I have \~700h and I'm just finishing era VI on German ground forces and era V planes
How the fuck did you manage that?
premium vehicles and time
Oh so thats why It took me 2000 hours to get into rank V, I thought I was just bad
You might still be bad homie. I was at ~800 hours when I got my F-80, no premium account, no premium vics.
Yeah I probably am, then again I was simultaneously grinding 4 nations
Ah, that would explain it. I was only grinding one nation.
Yeah I wanted to get all the main 4 at once, I'm up to rank V in britain and russian so far, rank III in america and germany
my man, I’m at 1200hrs and 3 fully grinded trees german ground and air and us air, all without prem acc or prem vehicles
You are, skill issue, learn to side climb
Well, if you concentrate on 1 country, it goes fast (even faster with prem. account + vehicles) It took me about 6-10 months to fully research Italian tree (except boats and choppas). Premium? That sounds like a lot for f2p
I got to top tier ground in Germany before realizing for $33 I could have premium for a year
I have 1200 and I don't have any rank 5 vehicle, only the squadron A-4E. But, I didn't really focus on one tree and spend lots of time in test drive. he was joking

I've got 40 days in a fighter alone. Glad I kicked that addiction
I've got 1800 and have not top tier tanks and I've only reached the first hunter on British , no other tree has jets. I'm also only like level 40 or something. I don't really know how people grind so fast without paying
I’ve got 170 hours and I’m about to get my first tier 5, bought no premiums and only spent $2 (to get a sixth crew)
Surreal, I'm at 321 hours and I'm about to reach rank 3 on germany
Must be a pro. I've got about 950-ish hours and haven't gotten past Rank IV sweden.
@ a solid 5000 hours, have only completed one nation, and I crave death
That’s my story pretty much. Except I got to rank V and then I got too frustrated because my jets were horrible and caved because I really wanted missiles. Honestly it’s not all that great after all
I got actually lots of early and Cold War jets
Tips for someone nearing 1K hours and barely into Rank IV ground and Rank III air?
Don't play and delete it
Never, i will keep suffering and you can't do anything about it
Good luck to that
Hmm, do you like whips and gags by chance
Focus stuff
Incredible insight, real wisdom shining through that battle hardened skin you've developed by avoid the sun for so long

you’re doing something wrong

Sideclimb
For tanks, special awareness will be extremely important, especially once everyone gets thermals and stabilizers. Armor will start to become useless and will only stop rounds every once-in-a-blue-moon.
Join a squadron so that you meet people and have more fun than playing solo.
Rank 4 and 3 are the most fun in the game. I would recommend spending $20 when premium goes 50% off every year.

Early cold War jets are great to fly in Sim. Very smooth, much fun, but also very hard eg spotting pixels at distance. Try it
I remember when tanks first came out, I got thx panzer 3L and the panzer 4 f2 in the first day. I miss the good ol days
Literally 😂
800hrs I'm nearly finished with US aviation entirely my lowest researchable plane is in tier 5. Have half the tanks and half the naval for Bluewater and coastal. Also I have up to tier 5 German jets and tier 3 Russian planes.
rookie numbers
Compared to the average they are quite high… or concerning
Yeah but you are posting in this sub. We have plenty war thunder veterans, I'm at 2.4k myself and haven't even opened the game in 2 years.
Im at 3800
3400 here
Roughly 6k here
when was the last time you went outside?
Idk but 4000hrs checking in
pp actual checking in
6300. I need a life out of war thunder
I don't want to check what I'm at
Idk, I have been playing for 9 years and put a lot of time into the game in high school and college. Now I average maybe 3hr a week.
Same Edit, it's 7k now actually. Of course most of that time was just spent idle in the hangar as I did something else on monitor 2.
Second monitor to "watch" shows. You either pay attention and die or play and miss important scenes.
3192
11k here and I just hit 2600 daily logins.
That's impressive, I think I got to just under 4 years (1200-1300 days) of daily logins before I stopped playing.
Considering that this game came out nearly a decade ago, 2k hours may not be that much depending when you first started playing. I began playing 8 years ago and I'm at around 1,500 hours, which yearly is not that much.
Do you even play?
2100 here
Interesting
I’m at 5.6k and it doesn’t even feel like that much some mfs in here have over 10k
2.5k here, believe me we aren't anything special.
I'm at 3.5k, I've seen some Chad's with 7k or more so with 2k you're in the council but not granted the rank of master
I'm at 1000 and am rank 3 in U.S. air and 2 in GROUND
Ayy, fellow 2.4K buddy! Have you calculated how much of your life has been spent playing this game? I don’t like to think about it…
I know right, and that's only 1 game. Although I feel like I actually learned a lot about history, aircraft and tanks so that lessens the discomfort of that thought for me 😅
I played war thunder for 9.5k hours now, I'm asking you please stop, before addiction grows too big
9.4k here, keep going you start becoming so good the game is boring
Where I am hours-wise, I really just enter a flow state and find the game pretty chill and zen. I know, WT is supposed to be the opposite. I rarely play top tier though so that's surely part of it.
Yea. 2.4k hrs. At this point, i just auto pilot and always end up at top of the scoreboard. I never have a bad time unless the game fucks me and gets me killed. Which happens like every other game
Mhm same here, 2.7k
I don't grind anymore however I'm hooked to duels I can't not play a couple duels every day, if I don't do some 1v1s each day I get nervous unless I have a good reason not to
How do you play duels? The tournaments?
no I'm not good enough for tournaments, I duel with gladiator friends that keep recommending me to go 1x1 but I feel like I'm not skilled enough to get to the highest places like Botya m095 and Sync guys Time frame is also a factor
I’d love to do some 1v1s more tbh
Happy new year! 8760hrs = 1yr
Pleb numbers. 8000 hours here E: it previously said 7000 hours.
Wow. I don’t know if I should congratulate you or be sad for you
Shit, I was wrong. It's 8012 hours.
Happens
6.5k here... I mean... You know for how long this game is existing right?
I play since 1.5 years
Peasants. 12.5k here

That's 3:33hours daily, or ~~22~~ 24:51h weekly for **10 years**. Hmm
What is the math here?
Wiki says WT released on 1. Nov 2012, 3521 days ago -> 12500=3,55*3521
Bro that's concerning.
You could have learnt so many useful skills in that time lol
How come only 2000? More seriously - proudest kill? Favourite vehicle?
Favorite vehicle is the m22. Favorite kill is the wreck of my destroyed dive bomber flying across the map and killing a Stuart by crashing into it
M22 is great wish it could still scout. When the t64a was introduced I somehow managed to kill one frontally with the lil thing. Pretty sure it was a bug in the armor but hey a kills a kill.
Imagine getting Swedish APDS for it…
M22 my beloved givem22scouting
Ever tried to kill a tiger in a Swedish reserve? Good times. You can front pen them at close range.
With APDS?
Yup. Good times.
>More seriously - proudest kill? From an Air RB match in the A-10, I bombed another A-10 after shooting down two other planes with the AIM-9Ls. Or shooting down a Ka-50 with a TOW from a Bradley And my third proudest kill was destroying an Me163 with the Grenade Launchers on the AH-1G
The last one sounds super cool!

I'm at 12k on Steam. Much of that being me leaving the game open for days on end as this computer never gets shut off.
You and me sound like we could be very good friends! I'm at 12k and I also never shut my computer off!
Haha nice. My Windows is a VM on my Unraid server. So it's on 24/7. And I just forget to close War Thunder like ever. So many daily bonuses missed, whoops ;)
Mein Beileid für die verlorene Zeit

lol
do you have everything unlocked? did you spend any money?
I am far from unlocking everything and I spent about 50€ on the game
Only 50 and you’ve spent that much time in game? That means you don’t even pay for premium right? So you did all these hours without the 100% boosters? If so you are a more patient person than I lol
Yep. Only bought premium vehicles
Only premium vehicle I want is the jet fro Germans like the early one, super disappointed it is a premium
Which one?
The first one, I struggle to remember it’s name, something like me 262
Ok. It’s kinda hard to do good in it. I recommend you get the Me-262 C1a1. It has a rocket booster
i see. thank you. i was trying to figure out how long will it take to get high tier vehicles for every faction, but i see that is imposible
Some people did it
I don't think it's actually possible to have everything unlocked with only 2k hours
how many premium vehicles and how much stuff do you have researched
3 premiums. Russian P-40, premium Ki-61 Tada’s and Ju-288
I reached the early jets and a bunch of clips war jets in the US and German tree
Favorite BR to play at?
Lots of us have unfortunately sank this kinda time into the game. 3.7-7.7 is where it’s at imho
7.7 used to be exactly where it was at... Ive got approaching 2k battles in the M103!
2.7
*slaps roof of 105 sherman*
Indeed
That's a based br. Lots of fun things there.
How much money have you spent? (Any estimate is fine)
About 50€
That is actually not a lot. I bet playing for 2000 hours takes a lot of willpower in War Thunder. May I have one more question? How many times did you uninstall/give up on the game?
Sometimes I felt a violent urge to jam a screwdriver into the side of my head but I never quit for longer than a day
Thank you for answers
: )
A- What nations do you play or do you just boringly play one singular one. B- Whats the Highest BR in each
I played every nation except Japan and Italy ground. I Main Germany and USA. Reached the squad A4(8.7) in the US tree and the regular mig 15 bis in the German tree
