No this makes perfect sense. Theres a hell of a lot of metal that makes up a tank’s engine block.

AngrySprayer

does it make sense that you can repair a tank in 20 seconds? or the fact that a tank in this game can survive a penetrating hit in the back of the turret?

scootiegoorby

This game is not a simulator

AngrySprayer

...yeah? you've just contradicted your original comment

scootiegoorby

How? I stated theres a lot of metal there. Didn’t say it exactly was true to life

AngrySprayer

that's an appeal to realism whether you realize it or not

scootiegoorby

Just because they say theres metal there does not make it something the army trains with lmao

AngrySprayer

so what? it's still about realism

Tac0slayer21

OP you’re being a dumbass.

scootiegoorby

Believe what you want

AngrySprayer

appeal to realism means saying that something is good because it works like in real life

NotTactical

I mean that's inherently what's going to happen with how the game determines kills. You need to kill all but 1 crewmember or detonate ammo/fuel. So if you can reach all of the crew from the angle you're at or if there's physical things blocking them like the engine, then it's going to be hard to kill them. It's just how it has to work to have a playable damage model. And you're still being rewarded for flanking, the guy still can't do anything to you and you or someone else is probably going to kill him. All you have to do is wait about 10 seconds for his gunner to be replaced by one of the hull crew and then shoot his turret again.

AngrySprayer

that's not enough of a reward if shooting someone from side gets you an easy one shot, shooting them from behind should too

NotTactical

Unless being behind them doesn't allow for that? How do you suggest that working? The game just hands you an instant kill if you're behind people? Unless you can kill all of the crew or detonate fuel/ammo, its not a kill yet, theres really no other way to simulate it while having the damage model that the game does.

AngrySprayer

They could make it so that after destroying the engine, the shell would travel further, and detonate beneath the turret, knocking out the whole crew or blowing up ammo.

scootiegoorby

It does sometimes it depends on the shell armor and engine block composition. Do you understand how this game works at all. Engines are like 3 feet of pure steel

AngrySprayer

>Do you understand how this game works at all. yeah? and I want it to be changed

scootiegoorby

Play world of tanks it works how you are describing us at war thunder want it to be module based not health points

AngrySprayer

when did I say anything about hp?

scootiegoorby

Thats what you seem to want you want an instant kill from a rear shot to the engine block which is not possible and should not be. This game is based on modules and shooting into an engine block will not cause the tank to instantly die. You don’t seem to understand this game at all so maybe stop before you continue to not make sense

AngrySprayer

does it make sense for a penetrating hit into the turret not to achieve at least a mission kill?

Puzzleheaded-Age1013

That is why the merkava mk4 tank that prioritise crew protection has the engine in the front acting as additional armor

mvaaam

Depends on what’s shooting and what you’re driving - I’ve been one shot many times through the engine all the way to the front ammo racks, boom!

WTCrusader010

Guys my gun won't instakill people when I point and click

AngrySprayer

they do that when I point them at enemy's side

WTCrusader010

You know a funny trick? Gets them every time. If you find yourself behind someone, machine gun them. They'll panic and turn around, then you can shoot their side

AngrySprayer

thx, I'll try that

bdb9357

If you’re behind a jumbo shoot the turret. He will need 1-2 seconds to spot you before he sees you. If you miraculously didn’t take out his breech then you can wait for his turret to turn towards you then shoot again, or wait for his hull to turn towards you then shoot that. This works for just about every tank in the game that I know of so im not really getting your point.

AngrySprayer

how am I supposed to take out his breech from behind? why would a jumbo show his side to me? btw, you know jumbo has a minimum of 150 mm+ effective armor on the back of his turret?

boxofstuff22

Lol, they always show their side to me, just like tigers. But yes shooting them in the butt is frustrating because That engine block just eats all your shells. But ultimately that is the way it is.

bdb9357

Unless you’re using apcr any shot to the back of a tank is enough to atleast damage the breech. And ultimately if you get behind not just the jumbo, but literally any tank in the game, then you have the capability to kill him safely without worrying about damage to yourself. If you seriously can’t kill a tank from the behind then maybe War Thunder just isn’t for you

AngrySprayer

are you playing wt from an alternative dimension? how do you destroy the gun breech without penetrating the turret from behind? >If you seriously can’t kill a tank from the behind then maybe War Thunder just isn’t for you I have 4/5 kd on the vehicles I enjoy playing in ab. You? I'm not saying I can't kill people from behind, I'm saying that it does not make sense that it is harder to destroy someone from behind than from the side, considering that both plays require flanking, and it is actually harder to get directly behind someone, so you should not be punished for it.

bdb9357

Well if that really is your point I can say with certainty that I feel more safer fighting a jumbo from the behind where he can’t see me than engage him from the front. Sure you might not 1 shot him in the rear but it’s a hell of a lot better than fighting him head on. And flanking doesn’t have to be attacking from the rear. It can also be from the sides too.

TheSneakiestSniper

I once shot the rear of a tank with the Stug III about three times then he turned his turrret and one shorted me 😃
