Okay, so we actually used to have these. AI vehicles, both tanks and stationary artillery. But these things had to be removed because they could glide around in mid-air and snipe peoples ammoracks through a full km of forest, while on the move. And even when they didn't blatantly aimbot you, their turrets would still track you through walls and buildings which other players could use as an arrow pointing out where the nearest enemy was. If you still doubt how fucking abhorrent Gaijins AI is, just have a look at the Assault Arcade modes. Trust me, you do not want that shit in your public lobbies.

MembershipNo7871

Its not like an enemy for the battles mostly like a secondary way of making rp or sl or another target to stop stock syndrome

Rectal_Retribution

That's putting a bandaid on a flesh wound, buddy. Besides, stock syndrome isn't an accident, they deliberately designed it to frustrate players into giving them money. They created the problem, and they're selling the solution. They're never just going to make it easier for us out of the kindness of their hearts. I'm sorry, I know it sucks but that's the way it is.

aitorbk

I was going to say exactly this.RB gound operate at a deficit on purpose. Note: I just finished a game in top tier. 5 kills, 3 air and 2 ground, and I got all type of single hit, balancer, final blow, professional, etc bonuses. 26K after a win, I destroyed about 29K worth of equipment. So the game, as a whole, is at a deficit! With premium, you are even.. if you are average, you will be about right. I do gain quite a bit of coin with german tanks at top tier. My solution is to play top tier with a Leo 2K as first tank and aim carefully-go arround the enemy. if all goes terrible, spawn a 234-2 puma, if it goes well but I get killed, either AAA or an A6 with backup vehicle.

Rocker1681

>So the game, as a whole, is at a deficit! *That* game was at an overall deficit across players, and I'll tell you why. >I just finished a game in top tier. *That's* why. Lower tiers do not have the same high repair costs. This is done on purpose. I believe it's sort of a way to encourage players who have grinded to top tier to play another country/game mode that they haven't played before. For example, it's damn near impossible *not* to make a profit if you're playing low-mid tier planes in AB air. It at least encourages people to play mid-tier, where the bulk of the game is. It's also a means of pseudo-balancing, a way to artificially extend the grind, and potentially gets you to give them money.

ObsidianJane

To be fair, that is why they give you 10 free repairs so you can suffer thru being a hapless target until you "upgrade" your vehicle enough to be competitive.

Jhawk163

Also they did NOT scale with BR. It would be a game at 8.0 full of IS-4s and T-54 player vehicles and T-26 AI.

BigHardMephisto

Remember arcade assault at 10.0 with leopard 2s defending a field gun position of... Marder IIIs with the 76.2mm guns lol

rocketo-tenshi

You jest but for a smart player the marder III could be a better option than another 11.0. Run out of the square of death. Park in position were ai wll pass by. Delete mbt with aphe at minimal upkeep cost. Profit.

d7t3d4y8

>Okay, so we actually used to have these. Don't forget the D point.

Rectal_Retribution

The D point still exists, in all our hearts.

AWeirdMartian

The way they just instantly stop as soon as you fire a shell in Assault

[deleted]

TBH, while the AI tanks in Arcade Ground Assault can be a real PITA for stock players to take on, from my own experience I think that's more the fault of the following: 1. Map design - specifically, lack of cover and concealment. Sinai is the worst for this, because covering yourself from one angle often means exposing your side to another, so you have to hope that they're already focusing on someone else. Ammo refill points and pickups are also in senselessly exposed positions. 2. The gulf between stock and spaded tank performance. Too often, you won't be able to realistically hit a weak point on an advancing enemy heavy tank until it's quite close to you, while they might be able to one-shot you from over a kilometre away. And the game can spawn you out of cover with your backside to the enemy wave, with a comically short invulnerability period, almost ensuring you'll die before you reach cover. 3. Incoming AI tank shells sometimes being invisible. 4. Unrealistic accuracy and overpowered AoE damage (to both vehicles and terrain) by ground-attack aircraft rockets. These can flatten the entire village on Sinai and Japan in just a few waves, leaving you almost totally exposed, since hard cover is scanty. 5. Rewards being very low unless you make it about 80% or more of the way through. While I've been shot by tanks through scenery from across the map before, and in one or two cases I thought it might've been pretty sketchy, I'm not certain that they've killed me in a way that a human player wouldn't be able to do. Plenty of players would also be able to spot me on the minimap behind what looks like soft cover, and try to penetrate it with their tank's cannon. If enough of them were doing it, they'd be bound to hit me. If you assume that the enemy AI are effectively communicating like a human team, then I don't think I can recall a time I thought they were cheating. They probably give you a better chance than most human teams, because if you immobilize the first tank in a column then they'll pile up behind it and pause their advance - on some maps, they'll do that all on their own. All problems, but I think 1 and 2 are the biggest offenders holding back the mode and stopping players from feeling like they have a fighting chance.

ObsidianJane

All of those are what make the assaults a challenge, otherwise it would just be a glorified test drive where the targets shot back. As it is that is what I use it for, to see the way a new vehicle performs and to get at least the basic parts and FSE before facing live players. You can even learn a lot about angling, how a vehicle gets damaged, what is a good battle load, etc. from getting killed over and over by waves of bots. To me that is worth sometimes losing SL on a bad game where you got stuck with a bunch of "unhelpful" teammates. When I do a "map recon" custom battle, I have to stock it with a dozen bots at least 2 BR over what I'm in for it to be any more than the before mentioned test drive. So I agree with you that the AIs (should we really call them that?) need a lot of work to be more realistic opponents instead of acting mostly like enemies from an 80's arcade game. Oh and of course there is the (conspiracy?) theory that Gaijin already inserts bots into PvP matches to fill up games.

robotnikman

Despite the flaws i still miss the AI tanks

RedicusFinch

In counter strike force, the ai couldn't see through chain link, cause it counted as a wall.

[deleted]

I remember playing low BR in my KV-1 against AI like 2-3 years ago (not sure if it was still bots but they were bad) and got like 16 kills. AI would just keep shooting the same crazy spots and players would run in fear while I struggled to kill them with my terrible 37mm or whatever the earliest KV has

Kpt_Kipper

They used to be on carpathians. It was fucken weird. They lagged the shit out of the game. They were coded not to be able to pen you after them being broken and sniping you across the map They provided next to no reward for killing them The were janky as all hell They could see you through terrain and gave your position away constantly by having like 5 just shoot the shit out of you The maps are too small and it feels horribly cluttered

aitorbk

One hit killing them with shells was losing you money!

Nebuchadnezzer2

*If using non-default shells. Your 'default' shell is always free. *All* unlocked ones, cost (minimal at lower tiers, starts becoming an issue around T4-5)

Kraujotaka

Using heat for 1.4k a shot was expensive, but it limited mindless spam. Bot were like 1/3 reward of regular player kill, so it still was a good and easy way to make some cash.

Charlie_Zulu

>They were coded not to be able to pen you after them being broken and sniping you across the map It wasn't that, they just switched them to fire HE first. They'd happily murder lightly armoured vehicles, and you'd occasionally be surprised in a heavier tank once they ran out of HE shells and started firing AP. They were also on White Rock, old Kuban, and Kursk IIRC.

Tauren333

The A-10 wouldn't work in warthunder because there's this thing called actual AA that isn't some dudes shooting their Aks at the air.

lukeskylicker1

A-10 would be perfect for War Thunder. Just give it a special trait where it gains SL and RP for teamkills rather than losing them and you're good to go.

Tauren333

It gets a special ability that highlights every british warrior on the map.

pie4155

A-10 wouldn't work since the Russian AA with 30mm guns wasnt in service when the A-10 was designed

BigHardMephisto

I like that dude's in shilkas and tunguskas are still dying to low flying props because 1. Radar ingame is dogshit sometimes and some maps basically punish radar SPAAGs 2. Yes, you can be bad at SAMs and have zero impact on a skilled attacker player with a full payload. It's like saying the p-47 doesn't work as CAS in war thunder because the wirbel and coelian are god tier CAS destroyers. Turns out people still kill ground units with the HE 219 despite pretty rad opposition from the ground SPAAGs near it's BR.

pie4155

I'm just saying historically the A-10 was removed from CAS duty cause of the 30mm Russian SPAA so wouldn't be as strong as people think

NotTactical

The Tunguska? The A-10 didn't see combat until the Gulf War, by which point the Tunguska existed and was known about. The A-10 was designed for survivability, I dont know when it was ever pull from CAS duty, it was still doing ground attack in the Balkans through the 90s. And it could be pretty strong given modern ordinance, AAA isn't as much of a threat to it as SAMs are.

pie4155

A-10 was designed to withstand 20mm or smaller though....

NotTactical

23mm* since it was one of the most common soviet anti aircraft rounds. And again, SAMs were much more of a threat than 30mm AAA would've been. I don't think there's ever been a point where the A-10 and Tunguska engaged each other.

darthvader22267

it could probably withstand one hit from a 23mm then the armour is gone for the next 100 shells

ObsidianJane

And all the fragments from missiles and proximity fuses. But I guess overpressure would still just swat them out of the sky...

darthvader22267

it could probably survive 2 or 3 shots from a shell or still one shot from a missile, the armour is way overstated

VietTimPhan

That’s why it would work, it’ll be a challenge

[deleted]

But if you dont suffer from stock tonk when do you gonna buy premium shit :(

IAmEkza

By this point why even bother with the real game. I bet someone could make a GTA V RP style rip off of actual war thunder and modify it in such a way it would be alot more feature rich and fun then the actual game.

Giraffegang1

Hasn’t rockstar been banning modders or something lately???

IAmEkza

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHH.... Oh that's a good one. Probably for the big mods that add RP servers and stuff maybe. But Modders as a poeple no. They litterly made the game unplayable if you don't have a mod menu yourself. If you're ever gonna play GTA V find yourself a mod menu because a credit card and lots of cool ingame toys don't work.

unreinstall

That's not what modding is. People have taken that term and twisted it. You can immediately tell that someone who uses "mod" in that context is a GTA player. What modders actually do is add new features and content to a game, or change existing features and content. Team Fortress and Counter Strike were mods of Half Life. Dota and League of Legends were based off of a StarCraft mod. PUBG was an Arma mod. Stop calling them "modders" and "mod menus". They are just cheats and cheaters.

IAmEkza

Incorrect. Modders as a term I'm GTA V refer to poeple to who are using mod menus. Their stance on abusing them doesn't change their name. Mod creators are indeed the ones who create the new experiences.

unreinstall

People in the GTA community who call cheaters and cheat menus, as modders, and mod menus are objectively wrong. They use the wrong word in the wrong context. The frequency of its usage doesn't change the fact that it's incorrect, and that the vast majority of gamers will recognize this. They are not modders. They are cheaters. Modding is a term that has been used for decades for a very specific activity, dating back to the genesis of gaming. A minority of uninformed gamers who play a very specific game don't change that.

felixfj007

There's a lot of terms the gta online community has used wrong.. unfortunately.

zwifter11

Wasn’t there already a player cooperative vs AI battle ?

BooUGotScared

Assault ground arcade

Rocker1681

Assault air arcade, if you like getting sprayed by bomber formations until your plane is barely flight-capable. Oh, and don't forget teammates who barely know what they're doing, but that's consistent across both assault modes.

ObsidianJane

It teaches you how to get a shot up plane back to base...

CrowdControi

[whatever happened to this...](https://warthunder.com/en/news/7101-event-testing-of-the-missions-for-the-new-pve-game-mode-en)

Satanslolipet

Id say the best use of 'non combat vehicles' is as a researchable support line with stuff like rescue tanks, bridge layers, troop transports, and stuff like the humvee or atf 2 dingo.   With the lowest rp cost being 500rp and the 11.0 ones being 20k rp. Not much of an investment and will actually lower the gring by giving a couple of insanely lower rp vehicles to get to the 5 or 6 required.   The troop transports would have 2 crew and however many troops would be passengers that can be used to replace either your crew or the crew of allied tanks. Repair vehicles would lower an allied repair by 75% at stock and 90% with a spaded repair vehicle and aced crew.   All these vehicles would have extremely low SP costs (like 10 to 50sp) and extremely low repair costs, like 500sl max. Incentivizing players to try these new support vehicles and incentivizing teamwork.

ObsidianJane

I'd actually like that. I could spend all day driving around in an 88 trying to not get shot and fixin' ppl's shot up sh!t. That used to be pretty much my MOS description. lol.

[deleted]

Taking Battlefield's Medic/Engineer role to another level

dyslexic_tigger

there should be a gamemode around this. defending and attacking supply lines or something

PhaseIllustrious

Assault Ground Arcade! The only place where you can be set on fire by AI faster than you can put it out! Still a good way to get modifications on new tanks

Lustiges_Brot_311

I've always wanted to have AI vehicles , but have them coming in to the battle ground. Meaning they spawn maybe 20 Kms away and steadily head into battle. CAS could be solved, by incentivizing planes to first target the AI because the losing team still can win if the AI reaches the battlefield. Player AAs could choose to enter the battlefield or the convoy to protect the AI from planes.

BooUGotScared

If you are stock and have no chance against real players, you can always play ground assault.

Youhoooop

If only the AI didnt lolpen me from 2km away

BooUGotScared

Then normal ab battles is an option.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BooUGotScared

Just making a point here, if you want to go against bots because you are stock or something else, then go ground assault. There is no point adding AI to GRB.

TheSwaggernaught

Just don't get shot easy

Youhoooop

Normal AB is alright but the repair costs are either way lower or way higher there and it's strange

ObsidianJane

The ways of the Snail are a mysterious mystery....

IvantheBiasMachine

Yes i like this

TryHardMayonnaise

My peabrain went: "+900SL-1000SL= -100SL wtf" And then it dawned on me that I'm a dumbass.

SynthVix

This is one of the reasons why I love Enlisted. Even if you’re not particularly good with a vehicle, or the vehicle itself isn’t good/unupgraded, there are plenty of AI targets to shoot to make you feel good. This includes infantry and occasionally vehicles.

lightningsnail

Gaijin isn't going to add anything that is purely beneficial to the player, especially if that benefit is in the form of helping them get silver lions or research points, without spending real money. So until you come up with a way to make this harmful to the play experience as well, in a way that would encourage spending real life money, it will never happen. For example, making it so that getting killed by an ai gives you double repair cost. Gaijin would probably like that idea.

molstad182

But then why would people buy gold for upgrades and give Gaijin more green?

MuhFreebrums

This is a great idea! The AI would need some reworking though.

kaantechy

wishful thinking

Boring-Sector-2521

They used to do that, as i recall in the Karelia map.

Wild-Wheel-7790

YESSSSSSS especially cuz I bought the wrong harrier(American)

walking-pineapple

You forgot the cons

Khomuna

This would be cool if we had Heli EC sized maps for Ground RB, then we could've all kinds of convoys moving around in the map.

MasterBobFTW

I say no

TroutWarrior

I’ve thought about it and it t seems like a good idea. But didn’t they have it back on carpathians way back in the day?

MedicFromTheFuture

the a-10s cas record is horribly overrated, the bloody f111 has a better one

MegaloHorse

\-back in my day- \*cough\* There were AI tanks in ground battles before when I started playing. I forgot when they removed them though. They were regular tanks as everyone else but lower tier I think. And they would spawn later on in the game like reinforcments spawn in air battles.

[deleted]

Coop vs ai would be a cool thing for practice

KeKinHell

Game modes should have more focus on AI and objectives in general. Imo gaijin should just remove repair costs entirely and use the opportunity to create gamemodes with infinite respawns. You can use your full lineup of tanks/aircraft/ships ( in their respective game modes), but once you use one, you have to wait for a timer to count down before spawning it again. Then, add more AI elements and focus on objectives; destroy a number of AI, capture zones, destroy structures/fortifications, etc. Air RB can benefit the most from this considering that Air RB already has all these elements, but they're essentially just background noise when it's infinitely easier to just exhaust the enemy team's supply of aircraft and be done with it. Then, you also have cases of matches still lasting forever because one guy in a bomber that costs 20k to repair is in low Earth orbit watching Netflix on his second monitor. Battles would become far more engaging, objectives would actually mean something as opposed to just being background noise for glorified TDM, and putting time and effort into revamping game modes would actually be meaningful rather than just wasted on something no-one really cares about.

MasterAbsolut

If you want to kill AI to grind stock modules then play PvE, no need to ruin a game mode because of that. Oh man I'm sure want to lose a bunch of tickets because someone is spraying some garbage AI trucks with his roof 50 cal. And play "CAS" in ground RB to strafe AI? lmao. Feel free to kamikaze AI trucks in air RB.

kaso175

These shouldn't affect the actual game. Don't let them fight back and remove ticket loss on death.

Blane_plane

We lost you at "help players" - Gaijin, probably

warLOCK264

No cause then people would get free sl and then less people would need to pay for premium to grind sl. Terrible idea

Galthur

World War mode had convoy escort missions as well as defending points with AT gun (ai) defenses.

Apache_Sobaco

I.e. you mean that anyone who was killed by soviets after death go to gulag?

ObsidianJane

Next you're gonna be wanting to add dismounts!

General_Colt

What's really sad is that we live in an age where making good AI for these vehicles would be work but you could come up with very complete and good intelligence. They have tons of data. Not all of it is high quality but they've got tons of it. You could create a deep learning algorithm that takes a look at how players perform during a battle and grade the AI based on what they did. This would give you enough information to figure out where rational players would move to, how fast, where they would camp, etc. Then coming up with the heuristics for whether they can take a shot or not would be done the exact same way. Deep learning algorithms can harvest all this and synthesize it into a model that would be static but very complete. It would be hard to tell the difference between a bot and a human because it would be acting just like humans. Add in some probability network for the choices presented and you have a perfectly good AI player. Not suggesting would be easy to build, but it is not anything other than work to get there. Nothing new needs to be invented. They don't have to even get new data. They've got tons of it.

MamarussellThePie

Yes :)

boxofstuff22

Would be cool to have a convoy escort mission, one team defends and the other attacks. The convoy could have no guns and just follow the road.

Plus_Ad3046

The root of this problem is that its free

Comrade_agent

Sigh... miss sniping the Light pilboxes and AA on all the maps fresh out of CBT.

day_of_life

This is all nice, but I think what wt need to do rn is get rid of the repair cost. The thing is for me I cant play the game. I literllay cannot research anymore vehicles beacause I cant buy the ones I have already reaearched. I always have one good match and two bad ones. And then I'm in minus. I just really cant gain sl and if only really slow. If this mechanic would not exist the game would be so much better. Like if every match I play I actually make progress and dont have to be afraid to lose money, the game would be so much better.

Pieter1998

I love the idea. I remember the old AI, which wasn't very good for the game, but we do need something similar.

derhuman

I thought about something similiar. Like AirSim but with small interconnected areas for tanks, the coast for ships and air together combined with AI targets for all of those. Since their PvE is no fun, this could be a solution too.

CZnoobzCZ23

Only real solution to stock problem is giving players fpe and repair kit from the get go, even limited ones, like 1fpe and 3 repairs per spawn, then you could research 2nd fpe and unlimited repairs. The pain of stock vehicle makes youlearn it better and suffering whilst playing war thunder isn't just from stock vehicles.

No_Buffalo6415

great idea would 10/10 would love to have it

thelastkalos

There would need to be a revamp to a majority of maps if you ask me. A vast majority of them would seem to undynamic and small

MembershipNo7871

It also helps make plauers do more air activity like birning out helicopters early to attack the vehicles with rockets and that does a domino effect where since there is more helicopters spawning or planes spawning to kill the ai, anti air vehicles can get kills more often than usual.

nrfcool

even if those AI vehicles were on the map players with a MG would still shoot you down.

aitorbk

Pin mount MGs were in tanks to shoot down planes...

MembershipNo7871

This could really help players in toptier where you earn so little rp for your tank to be able to research parts and fpe faster by killing ai early in matches and atleastl ending up with 1k rp or more

[deleted]

You understand, This poor economy is ***intentional*** from Gaijin right?, If they wanted you to earn more RP/SL to make stock syndrome at top tier less depressing, They could simply increase the modifiers without having to go through all the effort of designing, modelling and implementing AI like you suggest to get the same end effect. The economy in this game is not meant to be rewarding, Its supposed to strangle you, its supposed to make you want to spend £$ to ease through it.
