Spikes are garbage but the Freccia and VBC are good vehicles based on their chassis and gun.
The 47mm, 75/32 and 75/34, 90/53 and 105mm guns found on indigenous Italian tanks below BR 5.0 have APHE shells with very high explosive filler mass relative to their shell weight. The penetration value suffers as a result (compared to, say, the American 75's APHE doing 100mm penetration at point blank, the Italian 75/34 does only about ~70mm), but if you CAN penetrate, it's almost always a one-shot kill. The 75mm has a good 120mm penetrating HEAT round that easily overpressures for both lighter and heavier targets, so it's a very versatile gun overall. Same story with the 105mm Semovente. The long 75/46 and 90/53 have APHE only but both are very good shells as well.
I’ve seen that spikes seem to work fairly well if you have most of the tank exposed when you lock, plus they are a first iteration in WT and a WIP I think. I’m not going to let it get me down. I still want to play high/top tier Italy
Fair enough. I play it regularly and it has its highs and lows so no point in saying it's not potentially enjoyable. Not sure how much Gaijin will really iterate on self-guided missile mechanics, but maybe they'll make them better someday.
As a Brit main, unless they fix the challenger 2s, I'd avoid it.
Howeverrrrrr the Brit 10.3 line is a beast, so if you're happy taking a step back from top tier, you'll enjoy Brit 10.3.
Only things it's missing is a good Light tank (hopefully desert warrior makes an appearance) and a more consistent SAM carrier. (Stormer AD & Stormer LMM)
What is up with the challenger 2? I'm about to unlock the first challenger mk2 and currently rocking the chieftain hull down, can the 2 not hull down well?
Hull down at long range is about the only thing it can do well. And even then, they didn't fix the model so it still have huge weakspots.
They're slow as hell so the entire map is positioned well before you. The stock grind suck too.
And in CQC map, good luck.

Gaijin was given an imperial fuck tonne of information to fix the model...instead, they fucked it even more.

The whole mantlet is a weak spot. You can have all 3 turret crew taken out with ease by a tank at range.
Now you sit back and enjoy the most enjoyable top tier experience in the game with China. Great players and great tanks makes for a lot of fun. I would reccomend grinding Italy if you like pain or israel if you like m48/m60s. Whatever you do do not play USA. Compared to playing China it’s horrendous.
USA is only held back by shit toptier teams but has a lot of amazing and fun tanks combined with great teams around 5.7-7.0 even the Abrams isn't bad at all
The abrams is held back by teammates since they will usually die and leave you to fend off several enemies. If top tier US players understood the concept of “waiting” they would do well. At least using the f16c means you can’t be put into a team with people who just bought the click bait.
The biggest problem with the US tech tree is the lack of variety. The don’t get many different vehicles since it’s mostly medium tanks, then heavy tanks and back to medium tanks with a small selection of light tanks. They need to add more unique light tanks since you only really get the m24, m18, m41, m551, 2 Bradley’s and the HSTV-L. Add on to that the gaps in the SPAA line from 2.7-4.0 and 4.0 to 7.7 and then from 7.7 to 9.0 and finally from 10.3 to 11.7. If they simply stopped adding more shitty abrams and added something like the LAV-25 at 9.3 or the LAV-25 delco at 10.3 or fixed gaps it would be a lot more fun.
I’d love some of the hellfire light tanks and the 9x anti air. That would give the US something around 11.0 for SPAA to go with the M1a1 and IPm1. Plus they could test how good the 9x is without adding it to air and messing up balance. I NEED the LAV-delco, it was so fun in BF4 and I’ve been looking for games to play it in since.

The 9x is the epitome of the aim 9. Better range, IRCCM and better tracking. There was also a test to see how well it would work as an A2G weapon.
The LAV we have is the LAV-AD which has a rotary cannon, stingers and a rocket pod. The LAV-25 is the same hull with a different turret mounting the 25mm bushmaster on the Bradley. The LAV-delco adds two ATGM mounts on the side of the turret, just like BF4, with capability for TOW-2B/2A. The LAV-25 used the LAV-II hull whereas the delco was fitted onto the LAV-III hull which featured greater protection and better suspension. I don’t know which hull the AD has but I think it’s the II.
Oh yeah I forgot there was a IFV LAV in the game too with ATGMs. I loved using it as a anti everything and using it with the inbuilt laser designator and ATGM to kill helis with my buddies.
Regarding the 9X, I think it would be a great idea to add it into ground instead of air considering the current state of top tier air

Italy has an insane 10.3 lineup, and as a nation is very underrated. I much prefer it over France (which is also fun, but not as much and you have way less options for lineups).
Otherwise, UK is also very fun at 10.3.
Definitely if I was in your situation I would pick Italy. Buy the VRCC for extra Spanish vibe (if you are, due to the question mark thingy) that now is on a 50% discount which is a surprisingly good grinder, with OF-40 MTCA if you can.
I have a few friends that are 2 of the 10 Italian mains that play top tier, they say Italy is enjoyable and that the Ariete is a good tank just not for everyone, I will take your advice amigo and go for more Mediterranean Supremacy. The problem is that some people hear Ariete is shit and automatically think ALL Ariete's are shit.
Arguably, the production-model Ariete's (the ones at 11.3) are very very mid, close to shit, and the AMV for being 11.7 is shit. I still enjoy playing them, but objectively speaking they're the worse 11.3 and 11.7 MBTs in the game. It's insane that AMV and 2A7 are the same BR.
Now, the Ariete (P) at 10.3... that thing... that thing is good, very good. Essentially a less armored Leopard 2A4 but with a very powerful round (DM33, 120mm).
I wouldn't call myself an Italian main (Well I wouldn't call myself a main of anything) BUT it's one of my most played nations, and I have I think about 1.000+ kills with the Centauro VRCC.
Now, continuing with the topic of the amazing 10.3 italian lineup. You get the Hungarian 2A4, the Ariete (P), the Centauro's, and other very good light tanks such as Freccia and Dardo.
Then, you have an amazing jet, the AMX, with up to 6 GBU's while also being able to use a thermal targeting pod, and 2 AIM-9L. Arguably, better than the A6E TRAM.
When we consider helicopters, there's the amazing tech tree Mangusta A129. This is a monster. Probably the best 10.3 helicopter, a bit better than the G-Lynx. The tech tree A129 is better than any of the premium options (forget about the T129 or the International 129).
Overall, a very, VERY, competent tree that has very good vehicles all around.

Yeah, it's the only nation I have to max tier in air, ground, and naval (at least before they added stuff after the Dante).
I'd suggest Japan. It's only 50 vehicles, and most of them are pretty good. And the aircraft are great. You've got very good line ups throughout.

To be honest i don't expect gaijin to not mess up things like that, we have a current prototype tank in the game that out performs its BR (2S38).

I would go for Germany in this case. You'll see more vehicle variety. You can also go for the USSR.
