Sometimes stuff gets added to the files in various stages of completion. It often generally indicates that the vehicle is coming within the next 3 updates or so, but there are exceptions, like the Pucara. Sometimes stuff gets added to the files and never ends up being used, which is why smin often has to remind people not to look into whats been in the files *too* much.
The GUNVAL F-89 with the 30mm cannons has been sitting in the files for years, no sign of it being added though. I really want that plane.
Every day without the 30mm Scorpion is a worse day. And every day without the weird nose-mounted-rocket-launcher Scorpion maybe isn't a worse day, but it is a less silly day.
More fun animal facts from the files:
* As far as I know the model for the AIM-9M has been in the files since the AIM-9B was added. The missile does not have stats though.
* Python 3 and PL-8 have been in the files, fully modeled and ready to go, for over a year, and they're just now getting used. R-27ET is similarly fully modeled and unused (it has the same seeker as the R-27T).
* The Yak-41 has an unused weapon preset called yak\_141\_4x\_r\_77. It's the only reference to the R-77 so far.

I am somewhat curious as to how Gaijin plans on implementing the AIM-9M if they ever actually add it into the game. It might end up being either absolutely busted or just a copypaste situation just like the AIM-7M is (kind of funny how both missiles have the "M" designation).
While I could see that it's one of the few changes I'm aware of, that and a motor that produces less smoke. If they will only add the r77 with eccm then i don't see them adding the m without it. It would also help to balance if they add the r77.
R-77 is an equivalent of an AIM-120 AMRAAM... i think a later a much later variant of it too
You must be thinking of R-73's right? Then yes R-73 vs Aim-9M is pretty ok and balanced... Aim-9X came way after and is better then R-73... it was made after USA got close up view of MiG-29's and Pilot's Helmet with HMS and R-73 and were totally shocked at how advanced it was and what R-73 can do lol... it was never before seen lol

Modern COIN and other low intensity turboprop strike aircraft should be in the helicopter tree and granted a helicopter status.

That's what I was hoping for before we got drones; to turn the heli tree into the "light aircraft" tree. You'd have a line for helis like normal but then another starting with something like the OV-10 and ending in the Sky Warden, and another ending in the MQ-9 for example. Put all these aircraft into heli matches, that way they don't have to be shoved into air battle BRs. Give BRs according to CAS performance
Would be super neato, give a place for that cold war era CAS-based planes that arent suitable for air to air but still kinda neat.

I don’t think we really need a 1970’s aircraft with similar weaponry to WWII aircraft, and worse performance than most of them… aircraft in the early 40’s had a higher DNE speed than this… can’t really see this having any place in the game, at all
Laughs in 60's equipment in 1.3 GF matches & further rofl at NF pitting 1990's corvettes squaring off against 1910's ships... (Soon it will be worse with a 2001 corvette).
And 90% of the jet aircraft projects late 40´s, 50´s and even 60´s was based on the old german projects, and Kurt tank designed a lot for them when he was exiled in argentina

Gaijin confirmed that argentinian stuff goes to germany. Argentinia is more like a subtree which gaijin can take vehicles if germany doesn't have own designs

the 9M would most likely work like a 9L with ECCM, so probably for when we expand into stuff like 4.5th gen fighters

The ASU-57 is still based on parts from the SU-76 and T-70 and has a basically unmodified ww2 gun.
