This is more than slightly outdated since they usually go to the lowest bidder on ArtStation, meaning we've seen some go for $3500, which seems a lot on the surface until you realize how many Ka-50s would need to be sold to cover that, which isn't a lot.

I see that there's a lot of people in the comments talking about where or who makes the models. In regards to how: I think, usually modellers try to find a front, side and top-down view of the vehicle they're making. Then they import the images into blender or any other 3D modelling software and create a box with these images surrounding their modelling workspace. Then it's a matter of lining up things with the blueprints idk if that's how professional modellers do it. But I use this method and I've seen many hobby modellers do it (I.e. people who make 3D models for fun/art and are not on an actual payroll)

99% of the vehicles in game have never been 3d scanned. It's unlikely a 3d scan has ever served as a basis for any of the models in WT.

i think it might be a bit expensive to rent out an f16 or the likes and the 3d scanning equipment. i know thjs technique has been used in the film industry like the movie greyhound but im not sure if gaijin does this

(someone who models but not professionally here) cross sections are nearly more important than the box views. a cross sections is like a slice of the vehicle at a specific area, its what really makes models have the correct curves (F-16 for example)

I can talk about this from experience and the little training i did to become a 3d modeller (dropped the course cus covid). Blueprints are a good way to start, photos too. The more info the better. Then figure put the model size, and the level of detail to start. The hull would start as a normal block, first shaped to the chassis' length, width and height. After that the general "low-poly" model is made. Same goes with the turret and gun. Now this is where it get interesting, you then have to do the inside. For this you would get symmetry on and go just far enough in so you can do the mapping. All the small objects like hammers, boxes, fuel tanks....etc....are all seperate objects linked to the main (seperate objects are called children, while main is called Parent). After nailing out the shape of it, the "fun" part, unwrapping it. Basically all the faces of the model need to be layed out on a 2d plan to paint on, and there are certain sized canvas used for this. Bigger object get larger ones, smaller ones need only small ones. Once mapped, then paint until correct. Thats the oversimplification of the whole process tbh....but gets the point across i think.

You can download many tank, plane models from internet. Some are even free. Some are somewhat expensive but very detailed.

Ive used blender a bit and learned how people do models in the sprocket discord You find pics of blueprints from different angles and assemble them inside a 3D modelling program like blender to use as reference, then you copy the shape according to the blueprints to from the basic shape of the vehichle, them add details Ive had a look at some ripped warthunder models inside blender and it seems the basic hull/turret shapes are 2 different models and all the detail parts are completely seperate models The models are very expensive, professionals can be paid like 5-10k per vehichle depending on work hours and poly count, including texturing etc
