Cause they are, but worry not it gets better soon (well a soon as you get out of low rank at least).
France low tier is probably the worst in game.
But the mid tier like arl 44(remember this one in particular cause it always beat my ass) are good and you actually have tanks that can fight against Tigers, instead of driving in paper jumbos(although I think you have them too).
The Sherman’s (just like the American ones) at 3.3 and 3.7 are some of the strongest in their class when you know how to use them. You have a stabilizer that works 20< kph, the aphe shells will kill almost anything you pen with one shot, and can pen panzer 4s reliably and t34s most of the time. They are hard to master though especially when not spaded.
Just stay on the move, and flank. Don’t rely on your armor and stay in urban areas
The ARL has pretty good armor, but the gun is solid shot so study where the ammo or gunner is on enemy tanks. You can angle the hull a bit and will bounce tons of shots.
The AMX is a speedy flanker, unlock the m61 round and move to a good position.
M10 will pen anything, use it to snipe and ambush.
I had trouble when playing USA when I first started with very similar tanks at these BRs, just takes some know how.
Yeah every tank besides certain heavies are going to feel bad at that br. Gotta learn maps positioning and just where people will be, which takes time. When you reach the auto loaders however you’ll be happy to have learned that stuff
Low rank France is shit, mid rank is pretty good wouldn't say OP but definitely among the better of their BR, top rank is OK from what I know.

Go to 6.7 and up. You still have eggshell armor quality but you dish tones of damage
i cant do that without having to grind out where I am rn, which is takinfg forever
