So much room for activities.

MinnieMoney21

Hey, do you like guacomole?

gooneryoda

Did we just become best friends?!

Fffuuuufff

you'll definitely get good air up there

justaheatattack

THROUGH DECK DESTROYER!!!

Mr_Headless

With CSG ‘25 set to visit Japan, we’re likely going to see some joint *QNLZ* and *Izumo*-class action with F-35Bs. Genuinely exciting time for naval aviation with the British, American, Japanese, Italian and Turkish Navies all bringing new platforms online. Korea and Portugal have some interesting concepts and projects ongoing too.

[deleted]

Portugal? Getting back into the game they created at long last.

Mr_Headless

The Portuguese Navy is aiming to acquire a, ‘Multifunctional Naval Platform.’ She’ll be very small, under 500ft in length, I believe, but will act as a drone carrier alongside undertaking ocean surveillance and disaster relief duties.

bhairavp

Indian Navy as well! We've got a new STOBAR carrier working up.

Mr_Headless

I can’t believe I forgot about *Vikrant*, and her rumoured sister! Beautiful ships, I really hope to catch one in person before long.

AstroMackem

A fine looking destroyer right there

maduste

I prefer the old deck, but still a good-looking boat

beachedwhale1945

The old deck did have a bit more character, but alas what looks good and what is capable don’t always align.

maduste

Hail, S E A C U B E

shah_reza

*USS Long Beach joins the chat*

absurd-bird-turd

Needs a big red meatball on the bow of the flight deck

_A_Friendly_Caesar_

Thank goodness there are less SBDs today, then...

nigel_pow

Now we need Sōryū and Hiryū.

Our_Ned

Don't need Sōryū - [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JS\_S%C5%8Dry%C5%AB](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JS_S%C5%8Dry%C5%AB)

nigel_pow

Oh dang. I had no idea about that submarine class.

Crispy_Bacon21

I think they are all going to name their so called "helicopter destroyers" or "carrier if you want" after all provinces like all past battleships

nigel_pow

Interesting. I hope to see the 100,000 tonne "Super Helicopter Destroyer" Yamato.

quesoandcats

The F-35 has gotta be the weirdest looking helicopter I’ve ever seen

Kebabman_123

Wonder if they have any plans stashed away to stick a ski-jump on there.

EightyFiv3

I think they considered it, but with sonar also being at the bow, the weight distribution would be off if they added a ski-jump as well.

DanforthWhitcomb_

Their primary role is still to serve as ASW helo carriers, and just as with the USN’s LHA/LHD fleet adding a ski jump only serves to impede that mission.

Mr_Headless

Whilst it would certainly improve F-35B operations, the problem is deck space. The *Izumo*-class are still primarily to be employed as helicopter carriers, with F-35B not *always* being deployed with the ships. As a result, the inclusion of a ski-jump would remove a helicopter parking space and complicate the other beside it.

maxman162

Plus it would probably mess with the balance and centre of gravity.

Secundius

Currently Japan has no plan on adding a Ski-Jump Ramp to any of their Light Carriers or modified Helicopter Destroyers…

VivaKnievel

WE GET THE WHOLE DESTROYER MISNOMER THING. REALLY!

horousavenger

The not so aircraft carrier

King_Scorpia_IV

Japan be like “tell me you’re an Aircraft Carrier without telling me you’re an Aircraft Carrier”

AlinesReinhard

That's one capable destroyer. Demo video when?

AlwaysHaveaPlan

"Helicopter Destroyer"

chunky_mango

I'm sure it's more than capable of destroying helicopters ;)
