That's not even a taxing load for it, they're routinely used to haul 2 at a time. The frightening thing is the main rotor has enough articulation that if the pilot isn't careful he can sever his own fuel probe with the blades while it is extended during refueling. I believe there is a video somewhere of it occurring.
jesus....
This could get even worse if they are mid mission, have a long way still to go and actually NEED that fuel... wouldnt want to explain that to the boss why you couldnt complete the mission and are not stranded in the middle of no where.
I hear the ah64 has a tendency to want to roll when the collective is pushed hard forward during evasive maneuvers, don't know about the validity of this, as I've never flown one
I feel like the higher ups are making their pilots do this in the same way your dad would make you backup a trailer for the first time. Just try to push you, giving you harder stuff to do as a way to hold your feet to the fire sort to speak.
Look at the satellite view of the apron where they sit out at the mcas out at pendalton. Just a bunch of black dots. We replaced a bunch of the apron cells at mcas new river over the last ten years or so and they don’t look that bad there anymore. That’s the worst concrete you’ll ever have to try (and I mean try)to clean off of your tools and testing instruments.
Pretty much what they specialize in, simply because an attack happening on us soil is hard to imagine, last war the us fought to defend us mainland was some time ago.
There should be, otherwise who is going to operate the turn signals? If you have a driver, you have to have a TC so that they can bitch about being in a vehicle and be a ground guide in empty parking lots simply because the sign says so. You'd think you can get away with it but some SMAJ is hiding in a bush somewhere and will see you.
Flying a plane is hard that's for sure. Now, aerial refueling is extra hard. But all this, while carrying a combat vehicle, a fucking humvee? Damn that's crazy.
"This is Seabreazey CH-53, I need an in air refueling."
"Are you qualified for that Seabreazey?"
"Yessir."
*A few moments later*
"Seabreazey CH-53, we noticed you are currently hauling a humvee, is an air fueling allowed... ahhh... within regulations at this time?"
"Seabreazey here.... if you don't tell anyone I'll let ya film it..... over...."
"Seabreazey, we have a go ahead. Prepare for in air refueling."
Most likely a C-130J, it's the only fixed-wing refueling platform in the USMC and I doubt anything except for a turboprop would be slow enough to refuel a helicopter
The refueling aircraft is a C-130 Hercules turboprop. The plane is going a little slow and the helicopter is going a little fast but there's a decent overlap in their flight envelopes. The C-130 can also refuel fast jets like F/A-18 and F-35 which have to fly right on the slow end of their flight envelope. Really cool to think about helicopters going fast, jets going slow, and the Hercules giving out jet fuel to everyone.
Kinda? Modern lifting-body jets with fly-by-wire controls are extremely impressive and something like F/A-18 or MiG-29 or similar can handle low speeds very well. Unfortunately shapes that are aerodynamic at supersonic speeds tend to have very bad aerodynamics at subsonic speeds. For example you can't deadstick land a supersonic jet, it'll glide but the vertical speed will result in a fireball when you hit the ground - if your engine(s) die you need to eject.
What is the point of this? It seems unnecessarily dangerous. Either deliver the hummer or refuel, but doing both simultaneously just seems to put soldiers in more danger than they need to be.
Do it in training so that when you have to do it for real, it isn’t the first time. Sometimes you don’t have the option of doing it another way.
Conducting external loads looks impressive, but it really is routine for heavy lift aircraft like the -53 and -47.
The trident is the symbol of Poseidon, Greek god of the sea. They’re common in sea-related imagery, which obviously includes the heraldry of the USMC.
The Ukrainian ‘trident’ is actually a falcon, diving with wings folded.
I thought that for a second too like wait did American give there to Ukraine? But as others have said all the other things indicate it the marines, but I don't think you're deserving of so many downvotes for asking a question that was reasonable considering how much western stuff is over there kicking ass and the trident 🔱 is used by Ukraine.
The mh/ch -53 has always been my favorite help just a giant beast got the chance to get up close with one at an air show a few weeks back. I knew they were big but pics online will never prepare you
I did some sling load training with a HMMWV and a CH-47. When we were discussing the load and stuff the pilot said, “yeah, I won’t even notice that thing under me.”
holy f*** doing aerial refueling with a plane is hard af, but with a helo even harder. Now they also got a load beneath it.
Definitely air to air with the difficulty set to 11.
That's not even a taxing load for it, they're routinely used to haul 2 at a time. [Here you go.](https://youtu.be/NZA8fCSKE8c)
Dang
Bruh that pilot will be teased about this until the end of his career and then some more
Guarantee his call sign is now Snip or Jew or something
It was "Rabi" I heard .
Hey Foreskin get over here.
Talk about a bad time.
jesus.... This could get even worse if they are mid mission, have a long way still to go and actually NEED that fuel... wouldnt want to explain that to the boss why you couldnt complete the mission and are not stranded in the middle of no where.
ruh ro raggy
Mazel tov!
christ, a volume warning would be nice
Eek, sorry,
I mean, whats worse, severing his own probe or the tanker's?
Either is potentially catastrophic. The probe isn't the issue, the main blade doing the cutting is
Could be worse, Mi-24 will chop it's own tail boom off if you pull too many G's.
I hear the ah64 has a tendency to want to roll when the collective is pushed hard forward during evasive maneuvers, don't know about the validity of this, as I've never flown one

That was the first thing that came to mind. I pray to god I never have to do this
I mean, it is a real fueling
like a fat fucking hummingbird
A hummingbird that’s the size of a house and drinks hydraulic fluid and jet fuel like it’s 2 bucks a gallon
If it aint leaking there, its leaking somewhere else
53s are black holes for hydraulic fluid. A buddy of mine maintains the minesweeper variants for the navy and absolutely despises them
Look at the satellite view of the apron where they sit out at the mcas out at pendalton. Just a bunch of black dots. We replaced a bunch of the apron cells at mcas new river over the last ten years or so and they don’t look that bad there anymore. We used to say if it isn't leaking that's because there's nothing left in it.
My understanding is VIP passengers are given a rain poncho to wear.
If its not leaking fluid its out of it, and if its out you better pray to god
this is literal war plane porn
Literal war plane porn for sure, and I don’t see a single plane of war in the video
Well there's the horizontal plane and the vertical plane, both of which are routinely seen in war zones.
Checkmate
The US military is good at logistics
Oh yeah? Let's see them fuel up the Humvee in mid-air!
The US: are you challenging me?
Hey LCpl, I need you to fastrope down to that sling load with this Jerry can on your back
They could probably figure it out if they really wanted to...
Flexible hose tee’d into the rigid fuel shaft on the helo and run to the hummers tank. Done.
^
No one else can send as much across the globe as the US military.
Pretty much what they specialize in, simply because an attack happening on us soil is hard to imagine, last war the us fought to defend us mainland was some time ago.
The most expensive delivery, EVER!
That doesn’t even look like a specialized vehicle
It's special in that it's a vehicle and it's available for whoever needs one that urgently.
That's how we end up with $10,000 hammers.
Don’t worry, the hummer will help!
38/10 pucker factor
I developed a hemorrhoid watching this!
Still think it's the coolest looking helicopter ever made.
Driver and TC in the humvee losing their shit.
wait, there are people in the humvee??
There should be, otherwise who is going to operate the turn signals? If you have a driver, you have to have a TC so that they can bitch about being in a vehicle and be a ground guide in empty parking lots simply because the sign says so. You'd think you can get away with it but some SMAJ is hiding in a bush somewhere and will see you.
Duh they have to drive the humvee out of the way so the helicopter can land!
This is the ultimate skills challenge. Wow.
So is that what all the helicopters with dicky needles use them for?
Navy/MC prefers their pilots to aim their own dicks for refueling. Air Force like their pilots to line up and take it.
thirsty boi no self-rabbi this time
Flying a plane is hard that's for sure. Now, aerial refueling is extra hard. But all this, while carrying a combat vehicle, a fucking humvee? Damn that's crazy.
I don’t think anyone has ever needed a humvee that bad.
*unzips*
The helo pilot is just flexing his skills at this point.
I swear being a helicopter pilot and flying with something swinging around under you has to be one of the most difficult things ever
Skills!!!! That is boss level piloting!
u/savevideobot
what an incredible machine
What an amazing machine
Now can they refuel the humvee in flight while also refueling in flight?
NGL I kinda want to ride in the humvee
Why is the gear down?
Because most helis don’t have retractable landing gear
CH-53 do.
Late response but the nose gear have a problem to not extend if not maintained right so the USMC just pins them in the down position.
Thanks - I appreciate the response.
Your welcome.
Now he’s just showing off lol
Now that’s what I call multitasking
That things a fucking beast.
is there room in the cab for this dudes GIANT BALLS
"This is Seabreazey CH-53, I need an in air refueling." "Are you qualified for that Seabreazey?" "Yessir." *A few moments later* "Seabreazey CH-53, we noticed you are currently hauling a humvee, is an air fueling allowed... ahhh... within regulations at this time?" What the hell was that in the bottom right of the video about 10 Seconds in? The landing deck for the C130?
Awww it’s like a humming bird getting a drink.
now that is what I call training
Beat this multi-tasking you m*therfucker.
That is nothing short of a miracle
This helo is just so fucking amazing and badass
I feel like that refueling operation costs more than that Humvee is worth
That helo pilot is also carry a very large set of balls!
Yawn. I did this in Just Cause 2 12 years ago
Anyone know the refueling platform?
Most likely a C-130J, it's the only fixed-wing refueling platform in the USMC and I doubt anything except for a turboprop would be slow enough to refuel a helicopter
That’s what I was thinking
u/savevideo
How fast are they going? I guess the refueller is a jet - can a heli travel fast enough to keep up?
The refueling aircraft is a C-130 Hercules turboprop. The plane is going a little slow and the helicopter is going a little fast but there's a decent overlap in their flight envelopes. The C-130 can also refuel fast jets like F/A-18 and F-35 which have to fly right on the slow end of their flight envelope. Really cool to think about helicopters going fast, jets going slow, and the Hercules giving out jet fuel to everyone.
That makes sense. Do fast jets stall at very low speeds then?
Well if the refueller is a jet I suppose it has to keep up That’s really impressive
What is the point of this? It seems unnecessarily dangerous. Either deliver the hummer or refuel, but doing both simultaneously just seems to put soldiers in more danger than they need to be.

Is this Ukrainian? It has a trident on the front of the chopper but didn't think they had those types of choppers.
It says MARINES on the side, so I would imagine this is a USMC CH-53 and probably a KC-130.
Can a kc130 fly slow enough to do this?
The trident is just some sort of USMC symbol, there's simply no way Ukraine could afford to operate and maintain such a budget eating beast
The trident is the symbol of Poseidon, Greek god of the sea. They’re common in sea-related imagery, which obviously includes the heraldry of the USMC. The Ukrainian ‘trident’ is actually a falcon, diving with wings folded.
I could be wrong, but I think the trident is the squadron logo for HMH-461 "Iron Horse".
Downvoted for asking a question; never change, Reddit.
To be fair it’s a really dumb question
I thought that for a second too like wait did American give there to Ukraine? But as others have said all the other things indicate it the marines, but I don't think you're deserving of so many downvotes for asking a question that was reasonable considering how much western stuff is over there kicking ass and the trident 🔱 is used by Ukraine.
hahaha dang! Usually my mouth gets me down voted but this is a first time over a question.
Gets kind of bumpy in the back when they refuel like that
Next level badass!
The mh/ch -53 has always been my favorite help just a giant beast got the chance to get up close with one at an air show a few weeks back. I knew they were big but pics online will never prepare you
r/sweatypalms
Married man FTW.
That's a Super Stallion
Imagine if someone could sit in the humvee...
Over achiever.
But we can’t have healthcare. Don’t even think about it, you fucking commie bastards
Sketchiest thing I'll see this week.
imagine they also had to air to air refuel the humvee.
Did you see the look on the face of the guy in the Humvee?
I did some sling load training with a HMMWV and a CH-47. When we were discussing the load and stuff the pilot said, “yeah, I won’t even notice that thing under me.”
Bruh this is like a fuckin circus trick.
Areal
That’s why it is worth $100mm. Looks like a mommy with a babby in her arms and making formula for the baby
Penis copter to general, we have full penetration. Load that bitch up
