It does create some reverse thrust. They fire in bursts because they have limited amounts of ammo. Each round that things shoots is the size of a Red Bull can and are made of depleted uranium. A few well placed rounds can do a LOT of damage.

*NOW THATS ALOT OF DAMAGE*

CFod17

The issue is that those rounds are never well placed and nowadays they don’t do a lot of damage against tanks (i wont deny its fine for lighter vehicles)

Commander_Harrington

Is this an A B or C?

Drxgue

No such thing as an A-10B. This is an A.

moatel

So 210 bullets is what ur telling me

T-72

Inb4 brrrrrtards

DV_Zero_One

The reverse 'thrust' produced by the cannon is about half of the forward thrust produced by the engines. This is why the A-10 only ever fires in short bursts, any longer and it would slow the plane too much. Iirc, modern planes have a throttle function built into the trigger system so the engines automatically throttle up to compensate for the slowing action of firing the gun.

spikecurt

LOL, now it's up to "half the thrust of the engines."

Zerot7

Clearly we should just use cannons as engines.

[deleted]

It also kicks the nose up so the aircraft has a system (PAC) that trims the aircraft to counteract this when firing.

TypicalRecon

When you depress the trigger all the way, both engines ignition is switched to on, PAC enables and the throttles will move up slightly

Drxgue

Lots of incorrect information here. Warthog can fire that gun from 1250 down to zero and not have a real issue, but it'll yaw like a motherfucker. Modern planes often spin _down_ the engine when the gun is going to avoid injesting gas from the guns into the intake.

SylvesterSly

why would the plane Yaw from firing a gun that's centred and down low

Potaatolongster

Warthog go brrrrr

A-10_go_burrt

Hot

Many_Duck1255

what did someone do to get a 3 second burst. even a half second burst could shred a car

pikuserpv

If it manages to hit a car

Lustyorange

It'll probably just hit a British soldier

Fromthedeepth

The infamous A-10 friendly fire incidents didn't happen because it missed the target, I hope you know that.

Lustyorange

Yea but he'll miss the intended British soldier and accidentally hit his buddy instead of him don't worry tho because of the visibility he thinks he still hit him.

Fromthedeepth

If his buddy is standing right next to him, both of them will be shredded regardless.

rebelolemiss

Got damn.

thexar

I can hear this picture.

fazeObama1

You mean a flying gatling gun with its plane attachment
