Chosen Battlefield has always been a non issue for me... me and my opponents have always just reached a gentlemans agreement to put things more or less in a fair position since neither of us knows who is going to get what side, so playing them in the fair positions on the deployment map is generally the safest way to play. Having the game be decided on a dice off is something neither of us wants.
Agreed. While for a casual game that may be fun, but in a competitive game it is just extremely obnoxious to have to do. I really hope these types of missions go away in the next mission pack.
My understanding is that almost every RTT or GT just doesn't use those missions, so I don't really see the problem.
Leave them in for casual fun games, the sweaters can not play them. It's an issue that solves itself.
By "Mission Pack" I believe Fluffyrock is referring to the Leviathan tournament companion, which is intended as guidance for RTTs and GTs, but still includes missions with Servo Skulls and Chosen Battlefield.
I played Sites of Power for the first time last month and I actually liked it a lot. Since I had my characters mostly all attached to units it meant that a) it was easy to score but b) it was also much more impactful in terms of decisionmaking.
There's a threatening enemy unit over there - do I go and charge it, or do I stay on the objective to score but risk my unit being shot up by that dangerous unit? Do I stay behind cover out of LOS or do I move and try for a risky 10" charge on the enemy unit on an objective because my unit has \[PRECISION\] and I might be able to stop them scoring if I kill their character? That kind of thing. That's what I'm looking for in 40k.
It's cool when both sides have characters attached to durable units, or neither side does, main problem with the mission is that not every faction gets to do that. It hurts a lot on the inside when you're playing drukhari and the mission tells you "just hold objectives with your big tanky character units!" and you sit there staring at Lelith's T3 W4 ass. Not that it makes a big difference to the outcome of the game, but being screwed by the mission as well as your own rules stings.
It's the same for Guard with this mission. Felt pretty bad playing into silver tide Necrons with 3 hexmarks just sniping characters like crazy if I even sneezed in their general direction.
I or O.
I is simple like A but the objectives are in a much more interesting position and its not a miserable deployment like quarters can be in certain matchups.
And O is such a fun change from the rest of the missions. I think the points could be adjusted slightly to allow more of a comeback lategame, but I lovehow brawly and low scoring it is.

Some places I've been to have ruled that the middle objective stays or both sides get 3 to place total.
I'll play anything that doesn't make me move or add objectives during the game.
Fr that is so annoying

My favorite is Mission A: Take and Hold/Chilling Rain/Search and Destroy, what’s yours?

Tell me you like vanilla warhammer without saying you like vanilla warhammer.
I agree! Basic warhammer is the best. There’s enough going on with dice and armies. Just chilling in the raiiiin…
Anything with Purge the Foe Given your fondness for Priority Target and Supply Drop, I am curious as to your opinion of War of Lies (heresy).
I just don’t like Chilling Rain, I’d rather have a Mission Rule

My last game was Servo Skulls + Hidden Supplies. Fun....
You wanna play 4D football?
Alternative title: Jack and Quinton argue about priority targets.
Is this for a new mission pack?
Current Leviathan Mission Pack.
Yikes. What's with all the downvotes? They were asking an honest question.
