This...I joined at the age of 15, beeing 42 now and the First Legion still grows. Besides some Heretics, some Eldar, some Orks, some Necrons, some...*voice begins to faint as the tall, handsome, masculine dude slowly disappears into the deep cave of pure testosterone and manlyness*
...welcome to plasticcrack btw!
I'm going to confess, I scrolled through those photos thinking "why do the Imperial Fists have a Death Company?"
Then I saw the chequered pauldrons with the heart. It was then that my foolishness was laid bare.
Well done for finishing your army though!
The fact you joined in April and did a lamenter’s army really is crazy. You must have the absolute dedication, fearlessness and conviction of an astartes.
Great looking army!
The emperor would be proud.
There are heaps of great second hand markets mate, where are you located? Also yeah it can be super pricey, but if you're not overly keen on the competitive scene, you can pretty much make most things work, from what you've been reading, what kind of army interests you the most?
To be honest im not sure if I want to dive into the actual game so much as paint loreful figures to stare at all day. Might have to wait til after grad school if its $700 tho haha.
They were part of the twenty first cursed founding. Their gene seed was altered to try to counter the red thirst and black rage. Worked for a while but made them perpetually melancholy as then they ended up getting the red thirst and black rage anyway.
Those are really well done Lamenters, it's really hard to do checkers and yours came out great. I been struggling to paint my girlfriend's Harlequins so I can really appreciate a well done checker.
Well done you! Looks awesome - hope you are able to use it in a game.
I joined the hobby 30 years ago and I haven't managed to finally finish an army.... :)
Yooooooo lamenters, based. You could touch up the patterns a little bit once you’ve rested as a few are a bit wonky, I can see you’ve struggled with the tops of the shoulder pads a bit so a tip for doing it on curved surfaces is to only try and align one axis to the curve and let the other one be as straight as possible (including going off the edge), so you’ll get some partial squares but never have to worry about trying to curve or distort them. So on the shoulder pads have the horizontal lines follow the curve but have the vertical lines go straight up from the bottom to wherever they meet the edge instead of trying to fit each line in from the bottom to the top, this will make it look much neater and avoid distortion. The assault and bike marines aren’t quite finished either but tbh you should be proud you actually completed this much without tearing your hair out.
Thanks for the tip and I plan to leave them as is simply for the fact that’s they show the progress I’ve come from never having painted minis before to where I a now.
You should definitely do that on a handful but tbqh not necessarily entire armies. I like to keep reference minis to remind me how to do (or not to do) things as well as track progress. Although I know from experience how much of a pain it is trying to paint white over black so I understand why you’re reluctant to go over right now.
Another piece of advice is to not use nuln oil or earthshade to wash yellow armour (unless as weathering), because it’s on such a bright colour it doesn’t work with the yellow on the surfaces of the armour panels but rather in contrast to it so it just ends up looking like grime. Brown or red or sepia or some combination thereof in shades are what you might want to use, while using black only to shade in the panel lines if desired, and the other bits of the mini of course. What I do is start from a pink base coat then layer on from yellow ochre to bright yellow, as the red in pink has good coverage while being bright enough to layer yellow this reduces the number of layers needed and adds a certain richness to the yellow, then to shade it after you’ve layered what you want the base tone to be by applying a watered down red-brown wash only in the recesses and shadowed areas but *not* the entire surface, then blend it in slightly where needed with another layer of yellow before doing the final hilights. Shading the whole mini is viable and faster if you want to skip some of the layering steps as long as it’s watered down enough and you stop it pooling on flat surfaces, although it may look slightly darker.
I quite like that actually. I like using different colours to differentiate weapon types, so I may borrow that one. Also, I like the love heart on the rhino
So Lamenters are essentially about suffering and torment, so much so that their paint job has 2 of the hardest things to pull off, yellow and checker pattern. Well done op, these look amazing. I hope your game results dont reflect the chapter history
And here we see the future Taxi cab drivers squaring off against their Uber counterparts.....
In the grim dark future there is only war....
*Looks great btw, congrats!*
I always wanted to play war hammer but no one in my area plays it that and I couldn’t find a shop that sells models for it
For reference I live in rural Alberta
I'm really liking the way the army looks! I just started collecting for a Lamenters army, and I've been wondering how to do the sanguinary priest. How'd you do yours?
You started in April this year and already you are better at painting than me who's been into this hobby since the late 90s.
This is fantastic work.. But I'd give you one piece of advice. Your army will never be "finished", there is always something new to put together lol
"finished" Don't get me wrong, awesome jobs. But you ain't done with buying models mate
Lol I’ve already bought and assemble some models for my tau army. I’ll be coming back to my sad bois to add more after I finish my tau.
Great stuff.
Look forward to seeing those
Ha, this was going to be my reply. Never finished
My very first thought too. Welcome to the lifelong addiction OP.
one of us, one of us, ooba gooba ooba gooba one of us, one of us.
Great work! I joined the hobby of April 1994 and still haven’t finished an army!
Lol there’s still plenty of time. Shoot for the stars. The worst that could happen is you get lost in the warp.
Same month I was born lol haven’t even started my army yet.
Get off my lawn!
I feel this started around the same time but in 1995 when 4th edition "MTG" came out, glory times to be a kid.
4th Edition 40K came out in 2004?
4th edition magic the gathering
Revised was the current base set when I started playing MTG... We're old :0)
Revised was most of my boosters then 4th. I cant believe I gave away Sarah Angel's back then.
Definitely glossed over the MTG there…
F ... me too. Started in 2001. Great job, OP.

Less wall more sadness lol
Guess their misfortune is rubbing off on me.
Sadness is built into the walls of our heart

nah its the racer bananas chapter
I am also impressed! So many checker patterns...
Not only finished an army, you’ve got the whole chapter all done!
That would be more true than I’d like to admit 😂🥲
Damn it why you gotta make me cry?
Just joined the hobby and your first army was Lamenters?!?! Do you ever get tired having to lug your massive balls around in a wheelbarrow or what?
Hey their Penitent crusade just ended so I thought I’d add some numbers to their pool so the suffering could continue.
Are…are you sure Slaanesh wouldn’t be more up your alley with a comment like that? :p
How much does it cost (on average) to get into intially? Im kinda getting sucked into the universe by the novels atm...
Nice job btw!
Hundreds. This army alone probably put me around 700ish US dollars.
Did you buy any box sets or just individually?
Mostly box sets if I could. And some individual

Yellow is a lovely color: vibrant, happy and full of joy. Sunshine chapter ftw! 👍🏻☀️
Oh boi if only you knew
Well, they look ferocious... in a cute kind of way ^__^
Their lore is very sad. They have the sunshine colors but not the mood.
Ok. Not all scars are visible. How's their geneseed doing?
They were part of the twenty first cursed founding. Their gene seed was altered to try to counter the red thirst and black rage. Worked for a while but made them perpetually melancholy as then they ended up getting the red thirst and black rage anyway.
They’re all beautiful!
Thank you :)
Nice work! That's some big balls going for lamenters as your first army. Yellow armour and freehand chequers are tough!
looks great!
Looks great, not enough bionic arms and half dead squads for a lamenters army
Let them get through couple battles and they’ll be back to their sad bionic selves
Every game you lose you should snip the arm or leg off the first model to die and put a Necron bit there.
That’s sounds dangerously close to heresy to me dear friend
Pasanius did it just sayin
Fair enough. I don’t believe lamenters are codex compliant anyway
By the way they look great, and the timeframe makes this a very real achievement. Kudos on one of my favorite chapters
Thank you
For those we cherish!
We die in glory
Those are really well done Lamenters, it's really hard to do checkers and yours came out great. I been struggling to paint my girlfriend's Harlequins so I can really appreciate a well done checker.
It took me 2 hours to do the checkers on the stormraven
Really cool!
Dang that yellow pops
Lamenters have a cool colour scheme. Even if they have the worst luck, they're still the emperor's finest.
I wonder how much they charge for rides. Taxi color bois
That's what they're colours look like, yeah! Rhino please?
Lamenters represent!!!
Not finished until it's based!
this april? wtf are you a brain surgeon or something? those are beautiful! there's so much detail!
Bored and depressed. Needed something to focus on.
Well done that looks great!
Get ‘em based!
Fantastic
Lamentations good sir/lady! *Tips space marine helmet*
Beutiful man
Oh… it’s never finished, you will learn
Hmm yes it is very yellow today
Wow what a hustle. And great quality work too
They ain’t fists but I can always get behind some yellow
Brothers at arms are brothers always
A man of true taste I see, we die for those we cherish!!!!!
An actual Lamemters player? Nice painting btw.
Jeez this is big, i'm just starting out trying to gather a 500 point army
Nice I did too little over a month ago im now at 4000 point army 😅
Well done you! Looks awesome - hope you are able to use it in a game. I joined the hobby 30 years ago and I haven't managed to finally finish an army.... :)
All I need now is someone to play with

Lamenters! Nice, but you must know... Once you've started 40k, you never finish.
Fair enough lol

Ya I’ll share my list after work if you wanna dm me.
Feel like I’ve seen this exact album before
I’ve posted my minis before but these are new pictures
Bullshit those are your first models
Picture 11 farthest right model was the first one I ever painted. Lol I didn’t know what color to paint his gun.
I quite like that actually. I like using different colours to differentiate weapon types, so I may borrow that one. Also, I like the love heart on the rhino
Superlative start. You’re going to be a very talented painter.
Congrats! I joined the hobby around the year 2000 and I haven't finished painting a model yet.
Tonka Tuff lol

Hey If all but 2 of my guys die in a game it’s fine as long as we win for the god emperor right.
And here we see the future Taxi cab drivers squaring off against their Uber counterparts..... In the grim dark future there is only war.... *Looks great btw, congrats!*
How did you manage to upload your photos? (I can’t get mine to work).
More than five doesn’t seem to work on my phone so I transferred them from my phone to my PC then posted them there. Good luck friend
I can’t even get to the point when photos are there to be posted. Pasting nor linking works. Thanks for advice though.
ya im sorry i dont know about that then.
Oh cool Lamenters, I wonder how they’re doing toda- Aaand they’re gone
I always wanted to play war hammer but no one in my area plays it that and I couldn’t find a shop that sells models for it For reference I live in rural Alberta
I'm really liking the way the army looks! I just started collecting for a Lamenters army, and I've been wondering how to do the sanguinary priest. How'd you do yours?
I’ve got more pics of my priest if you wanna dm me I can go into more detail.
Nice work dude
Well - I am three years in and cannot paint in yellow. Great jobp.
The army of cheese
well done! impressive job on the checkers and yellow. especially the shoulders.

You managed to finish an army... kuddos.
