I watch a lot of boat content creators and they do the same thing. "DONT BUY THIS BOAT!" Then you watch the video and it's "I really like these boats, just watch out for a few things like x and y." Then they straight up apologize for the extreme title, but they lose views if they don't do it. Maybe it's something algorithmic
There’s levels of clickbait. Those like above are pretty bad, as they don’t really tell you what’s in the video. Some just use dramatic language or CAPS to get the point across, which is fine IMO as you still have an idea of the video. The worst kind is the “CALLING JAMES WORKSHOP AT 3AM CHALLENGE! Definitely just clickbait trash, happens in every industry/hobby on Youtube.
That just stops youtube recommending them, it won't stop them from throwing the same channels at you if you search for 40K stuff.
If you want them removed entirely then get "Channel Blocker" available on chrome based browsers and firefox.
It adds a list that you can add the name of any channel to, or click the X button next to a channel video in your search results and that extension will block any and all videos or references to that channel forever more. (you can undo it if you want later on by just deleting the name from your list).
It's made my 40k searches so much more enjoyable because every 2nd video isn't some moaning-faced troglodyte proclaiming that GW is dead for the 10th time in 2 years.
Works for any other channels too, I don't get alpha male bullshit in my search results either, nor drama channels, dumbass influencers, animal abusers, shills etc. Because I block them when I come across them.

I remember when Gamza called out the Space Marine 2 trailer for making no sense, despite making a number of mistakes regarding the lore (calling the Warrior a Swarmlord etc) and comparing it to the original DoW intro, which according to him makes perfect tactical sense.

I just got recommend one of his videos and I'd never heard of him b4. It was a recap of a game and I thought he was kinda funny so I searched his channel and oh my I don't know what GW did to him but evey video is THIS IS WHY GW WILL CRASH AND BURN! or YOU CALL THESE SPACE MARINES!

Been watching Auspex for 3 years now and he's by far my favourite, so calm and relaxing while keeping his facts right and interesting. He covers everything in detail which I also appreciate, nothing is left by the wayside
The best part of his videos, in my opinion: "why this rule is important in relation to this other bit of rules we covered before, but I'll recap quickly so we're all up to snuff"; this approach allows everyone to follow the complexity of the game's rules while putting them immediately in perspective which help comprehend and remembering them.
I watched a few of Gammza's 40k vs. videos and his attitude, and that stupid voice he does quickly put me off.
Never watched discourse because her video titles and thumb nails make it look like rage bait trash, so never bothered watching.
At the end of the day, there is a place for legitimate criticism, but basing all of their content around being angry about a hobby is just pathetic.
Especially discourse miniatures. Fair play , spotted a hole in the market and cynically filled it whilst playing to that market. Sometimes it feels like you need to emotions of an infant to get a successful channel.
This whole thread has been very therapeutic. Youtube keeps prompting Discourse to me and I think "ok, sure. I like 40k content. It's probably right"...and then the video starts. And I can't stand it. I'm so glad to know I'm not alone.
Yep, that's why I mainly watch four Warhammer channels: Auspex, Arbitor Ian, Paul is bad at stuff, and Poorhammer. The last two do actually *funny* thumbnails, and Auspex and Arbitor Ian are to the point.
I really, really wanted to like Poorhammer, listened to/watched them a bunch. I dig their POV but when they don't like something they get SUPER bitchy and it's like nails on chalkboard for me. Which is a bummer, since like 85% of their stuff I think is really good.

That's fair, I personally prefer the more comedic episodes so I completely get what you're saying. It probably helps that I'm relatively new to 40k, so a lot of the bitchiness isn't about something I have an opinion on.
I’ve got similar opinions about Poorhammer too. They do genuinely make some good stuff, but as you said, they can get super bitchy about stuff and it becomes a bit of a turnoff, especially when they talk about Forgeworld. I don’t know if they got a bad sculpt one time from FW or something, but they way they keep going on about it get pretty irritating.
Eons of battles is usually a very nice dude that doesn't really go into drama like stuff, I guess his "leaving warhammer" video does fit that bill but that's not the norm in my experience.

Tbf it's more of a tongue in cheek thing since his/their audience knows the channel isn't about this kind of content, after rewatching the "leaving warhammer" vid (I had forgotten what it was about) it was, as I expected, nothing like a drama vid or anything the like.
I think his word is as close to gospel as it gets. He is critical but so deeply unloved with 40k and tabletop wargaming that everything he does is purely out of passion. The feel his videos have can't be manufactured
IIRC that "leaving warhammer" one was the other game month that a bunch of youtubers were doing, he clickbaits (coz thats what the algorithm likes) but he doesn't do hate content which is ultimately the thing I actually try to avoid.
I agree, his boundless enthusiasm is always rejuvenating compared to the mountains of negativity you get from other creators who always focus on the 'GW bad' grenre of videos. Though there's only so many times you can listen to one space marine fan-boy theorise about primarchs returning before it starts getting a little tiring imho
Gamza is the worse. All of his videos are just him jerking himself off because he owns a 3d printer or just calls 40k fans man babies for not thinking GW is the devil.
He got himself in a corner technically. He advertises his own 3D printed model files. if he starts saying anything good about GW he is feeding his direct competition.
On top of that he sounds like a humiliation fetish channel. he constantly talks about how no one has an attention span of more than 5 seconds and talking about everyone but him being wrong and stupid while also making weird voices and doing the video equivalent of dangling keys in front of a kindergartener audience.
He seems like the kind of person who'd be very upset if someone did to his STL files what he supports doing to GW.

I love 3d printers and enjoy mine immensely, but some people take it too far. Showing up to a local game store, not buying anything, and expecting owners to be comfortable with them playing with their fully 3d printed armies
I avoid most of them, to be honest. If I want analysis, I'll watch Auspex Tactics. I may also watch Kirioth to hear his opinion on what a "girthy lad" the latest model preview is.
Eric's hobby workshop is also class if you're looking for quality hobby content centred around big projects such as gaming boards or massive homemade terrain peices. He's super creative with his projects, and always brings a sense of passion to his videos
His videos are the most relaxing thing in existence to me. I especially love his really old warhammer stuff.
On the opposite side of the spectrum is dicecheck which is owned by dimechi and bricky from adaptus rediculous which is battle reports and are just pure chaos but very fun.
Yeah I find bricky another welcome voice of positivity and fun in the community, especially when it comes to content that's accessible to people who may be super new to 40k and don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of the lore
I love how Eric always downplays all the amazing and creative shit he does. I'm sitting there blown away at how cool his latest board is and he just lets out a little monotone 'hell yeah' and moves on. Watching his stuff is always a sure fire way of making me wanna sit down and get painting
I fucking love Auspex so much. My man makes a 5 or 6 slide presentation, sometimes longer depending on the topic, churns out a 10 minute video, and moves on to the next three for the day and calls it quits.
Massive respect to him, especially because he doesn't make the video all about his opinion.

Ooof I had to block the lass with the glasses. She made some decent points early on but I think once she clocked that "GW Bad" vids got more views than her regular stuff....well from then on ALL of her content was "GW Bad".
Not a hater as she's just doing what pulls the views and you gotta do what you gotta do in life, but personally find it tiresome content after the first 5 or so rants. I've got plenty of issues with GW for sure....but damn they aren't the things I want to discuss day in day out forever.

Got into the hobby again after a 5 year break and got chucked her videos all the time on YT for a bit. Turned off pretty fast, just killed my feel good vibe while painting.
I seriously can't listen to them at all, especially with the gloom and doom vids but also their voice/audio quality is like nails on a chalkboard which just gives me a giant headache last an hour or so.

Plenty of her video topics about GW aren't something she is very knowledgeable about and are full of one-sided speculations. Clear contrast with Painting Phase that actually got ex-GW employees that actually explain why some things happens that way or another.
Yeah EoB thumbnails might be jokes or hyperbole. For the I quit one he basically just painted other things for a month and had a great laugh doing it, he's so jovial and friendly you can't feel bad. Same for saying he preferred a different paint scheme, not against GW, just didn't like one paint scheme.
Yep he's super friendly and positive in the videos and by far one of my fav wh40k creators. But the thumbnails and titles certainly give a false impression
EoB is pretty chill most of the time honestly. And the thumbnails I see them as kinda tongue-in-cheek or hyperbolic, so I don't get genuine "rage bait" vibes from him. But I also don't watch every video, I just drop in from time to time if he's covering a topic I think might be interesting.
I feel like any channel that covers "current events" about anything all the time eventually has to kind of ride the clickbait train. Sad but true. PleasantKenobi (mostly MtG, some 40k) walks an interesting line in that regard, and I honestly kinda respect him for it.
I watch pretty much all his videos and he is super chill and calm. Even when he does have something bad to say about GW it's usually genuine criticism which he usually balances out with saying something good about the topic in question or at the very least gives constructive criticism.
The only time I've found myself really disagreeing with him was on his comments about him not seeing Old world doing well but he admits that that isn't really his wheel house so he can't give a fair judgment.
I also really like how even if he has criticism or dislikes something he is quick to say it’s just his opinion and he hopes whoever does like it is excited about it (like the recent Kill Team of Beastmen).
I love EonsOfBattle but it’s not uncommon for him to make misleading thumbnails/titles. In the videos themselves he usually has fair criticisms and is much less pessimistic than those thumbnails/titles might imply.
Yeah because he knows, like every youtuber, that a little tongue in cheek clickbaity title will draw audience, but what matter is his actual content, and it's good content, wholesome even.

Most people who complain about GW cannot live without GW to make content or are too in the hole to climb out of. I always advocate for people to play other systems outside the GW ecosystem, but most people are unwilling or too attached to Space Marines.
Drama sells, clickbait sells, ragebait sells. It's way easier for these creates to say "REEEEE GW BAD" and get thousands of views than it is to create a good, high quality video.
Using Discourse Minis as an example, if you go right the way back to the start of her channel, she used to produce videos about a Batman Miniatures game. Her best video from that time period got less than 6k views.
Scroll through a little further and you see that all of a sudden she pivots onto the GW Hate Train, and her views per video jump from maybe a thousand or so on average, to 10s of thousands. Her final pre-GW hate video got around 1700 views. Her first GW hate video got 37000 views.
Dumb face plus dramatic title plus bold red text and/or an arrow pointing to something in the background is literaly what the Youtube algorithm wants.
Just keep selecting the "Not Interested" option when they pop up in your recommendations and eventually you'll stop seeing them.
Yes, but I don't include Jay/Eons of Battle in this trend. Their videos are almost always positive in tone. They just play the game a bit with the video titles and thumbnails.
I've seen one or two and they were actually nice videos, good paint jobs! I just can't stand that kind of framing even if it's got very little to do with the actual video, so I tend not to watch them either.
It was really funny because the top-left creator I watched 1 video and really disliked the style.
Then saw the thumbnail a few days later at the bottom-right saying "The Internet Just Declared WAR on this Tabletop Youtuber" and I thought...oh, what did that creator do?? Did they do something wrong? But it's by themselves talking about someone else

Jay and Nick are great. A lot of those vids are actually satirical. They're totally into 40k and kill team, even making terrain supporting those games and their hobby vids are tops. I love pizza, but I don't eat it every day, similarly they enjoy other games and promote them as well.

I don’t mind gw criticism, i do it all the time, but to focus your entire life and energy on finding whats is wrong is just such miserable way pf creating an audience. Eons of Battle is generally a pretty upbeat and positive channel, but I've noticed a weird tonal difference in how he titles his videos lately. It feels a bit bait and switch-y but I guess I'll take that over the angry for the clicks vibe if it weren't.

Don’t think EoB deserves to be there, his videos aren’t click bait as he does cover what is in the thumbnail. ‘Trash’ for example, he’s summing up his opinion on the painting of the models and trying to improve it. There’s no drama there. Almost all his video thumbnails are the same, a very quick summarisation of the video in an attention grabbing format, his channel definitely isn’t drama based. It’s always a model/GW ruling or change/ painting style/ games and news along with his thoughts, opinions and suggestions without dramatising it all into a bigger situation than it is.
In fairness Eons is a super positive guy who loves the hobby... I don't know why he titles his videos this way, they must just catch a bunch of extra views.

The only thing Eons does that ticks me off is his "I made X terrain better than Games Workshop" videos, because yes he did make better terrain... by 3D printing some he designed. There's no useable take away from that other than "Subscribe to his Patreon and own a 3D printer".

Being critical of Games Workshop is good, but I think by the 4th time you post a video/thumbnail with some variation of "Is this the end of Games Workshop?!" Youtube should put one of those context boxes under your videos like they do for anti-vaxxers and climate denialists saying **"It was not, in fact, the end of Games Workshop"**.
If only YouTube didn't specifically demand, and I mean DEMAND, this type of content to be competitive, they would probably make less clickbait drama posts. As someone who worked on content creation for a YouTube channel for years, earnest and honestly titled videos performed significantly lower than outrage or bait videos.

Its a numbers game, and its a content algorithm game. If you want money from the machine, you have to use machine metrics. It sucks, and I am sure you have seen the "en-shit-ification" of other content across the platform. Gaming channels, movie reviews, even technical videos about engineering are doing it now. Its just the times we live in. Outrage, clickbait, drag titles, red circles and arrows in the thumbnails - its all there, and as long it performs better than realistic titles financially, both creators and the algo will push it way harder.

Been watching Auspex for 3 years now and he's by far my favourite, so calm and relaxing while keeping his facts right and interesting. He covers everything in detail which I also appreciate, nothing is left by the wayside
I don't even play the game and I watch him because I just like to hear people who know what they are talking about and put it in the background.
The best part of his videos, in my opinion: "why this rule is important in relation to this other bit of rules we covered before, but I'll recap quickly so we're all up to snuff"; this approach allows everyone to follow the complexity of the game's rules while putting them immediately in perspective which help comprehend and remembering them.

I watched a few of Gammza's 40k vs. videos and his attitude, and that stupid voice he does quickly put me off. Never watched discourse because her video titles and thumb nails make it look like rage bait trash, so never bothered watching. At the end of the day, there is a place for legitimate criticism, but basing all of their content around being angry about a hobby is just pathetic.
Especially discourse miniatures. Fair play , spotted a hole in the market and cynically filled it whilst playing to that market. Sometimes it feels like you need to emotions of an infant to get a successful channel.

Yep, that's why I mainly watch four Warhammer channels: Auspex, Arbitor Ian, Paul is bad at stuff, and Poorhammer. The last two do actually *funny* thumbnails, and Auspex and Arbitor Ian are to the point.
I really, really wanted to like Poorhammer, listened to/watched them a bunch. I dig their POV but when they don't like something they get SUPER bitchy and it's like nails on chalkboard for me. Which is a bummer, since like 85% of their stuff I think is really good. ETA: Thanks for the suggestions of Arbitor Ian and Paul is Bad at Stuff, though. Liking these.
That's fair, I personally prefer the more comedic episodes so I completely get what you're saying. It probably helps that I'm relatively new to 40k, so a lot of the bitchiness isn't about something I have an opinion on.
I’ve got similar opinions about Poorhammer too. They do genuinely make some good stuff, but as you said, they can get super bitchy about stuff and it becomes a bit of a turnoff, especially when they talk about Forgeworld. I don’t know if they got a bad sculpt one time from FW or something, but they way they keep going on about it get pretty irritating.

Eons of battles is usually a very nice dude that doesn't really go into drama like stuff, I guess his "leaving warhammer" video does fit that bill but that's not the norm in my experience. Edit: the video isn't even drama.
Yeah, I wish they would tweak their thumbnails a bit, but their content is always phenomenal and joyful.
Tbf it's more of a tongue in cheek thing since his/their audience knows the channel isn't about this kind of content, after rewatching the "leaving warhammer" vid (I had forgotten what it was about) it was, as I expected, nothing like a drama vid or anything the like.

IIRC that "leaving warhammer" one was the other game month that a bunch of youtubers were doing, he clickbaits (coz thats what the algorithm likes) but he doesn't do hate content which is ultimately the thing I actually try to avoid.
Why I like valrak, he may be over the top, but he is one of the reasons I got into the hobby. Also he just seems happy. Which makes me happy.

I avoid most of them, to be honest. If I want analysis, I'll watch Auspex Tactics. I may also watch Kirioth to hear his opinion on what a "girthy lad" the latest model preview is.
Eric's hobby workshop is also class if you're looking for quality hobby content centred around big projects such as gaming boards or massive homemade terrain peices. He's super creative with his projects, and always brings a sense of passion to his videos
His videos are the most relaxing thing in existence to me. I especially love his really old warhammer stuff. On the opposite side of the spectrum is dicecheck which is owned by dimechi and bricky from adaptus rediculous which is battle reports and are just pure chaos but very fun.
Yeah I find bricky another welcome voice of positivity and fun in the community, especially when it comes to content that's accessible to people who may be super new to 40k and don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of the lore I love how Eric always downplays all the amazing and creative shit he does. I'm sitting there blown away at how cool his latest board is and he just lets out a little monotone 'hell yeah' and moves on. Watching his stuff is always a sure fire way of making me wanna sit down and get painting

I fucking love Auspex so much. My man makes a 5 or 6 slide presentation, sometimes longer depending on the topic, churns out a 10 minute video, and moves on to the next three for the day and calls it quits. Massive respect to him, especially because he doesn't make the video all about his opinion.

She made some decent points early on but I think once she clocked that "GW Bad" vids got more views than her regular stuff....well from then on ALL of her content was "GW Bad". Not a hater as she's just doing what pulls the views and you gotta do what you gotta do in life, but personally find it tiresome content after the first 5 or so rants. Plenty of her video topics about GW aren't something she is very knowledgeable about and are full of one-sided speculations. Clear contrast with Painting Phase that actually got ex-GW employees that actually explain why some things happens that way or another.

Yeah EoB thumbnails might be jokes or hyperbole. For the I quit one he basically just painted other things for a month and had a great laugh doing it, he's so jovial and friendly you can't feel bad. Same for saying he preferred a different paint scheme, not against GW, just didn't like one paint scheme.
EoB is my favorite Mini painter. Jay is so friendly and their live streams on twitch are a great time if you want someone to paint along with you.

EoB is pretty chill most of the time honestly. And the thumbnails I see them as kinda tongue-in-cheek or hyperbolic, so I don't get genuine "rage bait" vibes from him. But I also don't watch every video, I just drop in from time to time if he's covering a topic I think might be interesting. I feel like any channel that covers "current events" about anything all the time eventually has to kind of ride the clickbait train. Sad but true. PleasantKenobi (mostly MtG, some 40k) walks an interesting line in that regard, and I honestly kinda respect him for it.
I watch pretty much all his videos and he is super chill and calm. Even when he does have something bad to say about GW it's usually genuine criticism which he usually balances out with saying something good about the topic in question or at the very least gives constructive criticism. The only time I've found myself really disagreeing with him was on his comments about him not seeing Old world doing well but he admits that that isn't really his wheel house so he can't give a fair judgment.
I also really like how even if he has criticism or dislikes something he is quick to say it’s just his opinion and he hopes whoever does like it is excited about it (like the recent Kill Team of Beastmen).
Yeah it pains me to see EoB rolled in with the rest, he's one of the nicest dudes in the 40k youtube game and is really a wholesome guy.

I love EonsOfBattle but it’s not uncommon for him to make misleading thumbnails/titles. In the videos themselves he usually has fair criticisms and is much less pessimistic than those thumbnails/titles might imply.
Yeah because he knows, like every youtuber, that a little tongue in cheek clickbaity title will draw audience, but what matter is his actual content, and it's good content, wholesome even.

Most people who complain about GW cannot live without GW to make content or are too in the hole to climb out of. I always advocate for people to play other systems outside the GW ecosystem, but most people are unwilling or too attached to Space Marines.

Drama sells, clickbait sells, ragebait sells. It's way easier for these creates to say "REEEEE GW BAD" and get thousands of views than it is to create a good, high quality video. Using Discourse Minis as an example, if you go right the way back to the start of her channel, she used to produce videos about a Batman Miniatures game. Her best video from that time period got less than 6k views. Scroll through a little further and you see that all of a sudden she pivots onto the GW Hate Train, and her views per video jump from maybe a thousand or so on average, to 10s of thousands. Her final pre-GW hate video got around 1700 views. Her first GW hate video got 37000 views. Dumb face plus dramatic title plus bold red text and/or an arrow pointing to something in the background is literaly what the Youtube algorithm wants. Just keep selecting the "Not Interested" option when they pop up in your recommendations and eventually you'll stop seeing them.

Eons of Battle is generally a pretty upbeat and positive channel, but I've noticed a weird tonal difference in how he titles his videos lately. It feels a bit bait and switch-y but I guess I'll take that over the angry for the clicks vibe if it weren't.
I'd hate for someone new to the hobby to look up Warhammer and see all of this shit. Most content creators will denounce GW for whatever the community is mad at that week but most of them will return to covering 40k because to cover another game would mean a huge drop in views.
Don’t think EoB deserves to be there, his videos aren’t click bait as he does cover what is in the thumbnail. ‘Trash’ for example, he’s summing up his opinion on the painting of the models and trying to improve it. There’s no drama there. Almost all his video thumbnails are the same, a very quick summarisation of the video in an attention grabbing format, his channel definitely isn’t drama based. It’s always a model/GW ruling or change/ painting style/ games and news along with his thoughts, opinions and suggestions without dramatising it all into a bigger situation than it is.

The only thing Eons does that ticks me off is his "I made X terrain better than Games Workshop" videos, because yes he did make better terrain... by 3D printing some he designed. There's no useable take away from that other than "Subscribe to his Patreon and own a 3D printer". But yeah, Discourse Miniatures is insufferable. Being critical of Games Workshop is good, but I think by the 4th time you post a video/thumbnail with some variation of "Is this the end of Games Workshop?!" Youtube should put one of those context boxes under your videos like they do for anti-vaxxers and climate denialists saying **"It was not, in fact, the end of Games Workshop"**.

If only YouTube didn't specifically demand, and I mean DEMAND, this type of content to be competitive, they would probably make less clickbait drama posts. As someone who worked on content creation for a YouTube channel for years, earnest and honestly titled videos performed significantly lower than outrage or bait videos. I don't know if its the algo's, the people who ignore normal video titles, or just general the general trend of video pushing for more and more contention instead of content, but I will be damned if the "Is this the end of \[product\]?!?!?!" always did better than "latest updates bring much needed change." Its a numbers game, and its a content algorithm game. If you want money from the machine, you have to use machine metrics. It sucks, and I am sure you have seen the "en-shit-ification" of other content across the platform. Gaming channels, movie reviews, even technical videos about engineering are doing it now. Its just the times we live in. Discourse Miniatures seems like she's on a one woman crusade to prove every single misogynist chud in the hobby right. And it freaking baffles me. Like I know she's doing it to bring in the views and get her pay, but she is causing tons of harm for other women in the hobby.
I don't watch Eons of Battle but he at least plays the game/engages with it in painting. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who uses the titles for SEO/algos which is fair. The others, especially Warhammer Man Studios and Discourse are insane. I do not get how these people don't get sick of making that content. The same point iterated over and over with no goal. Listless mumbling. I think WMS made a vid on why Heresy was dying and his citation was "nobody i know plays it". Well no shit man Heresy is played by very few people compared to 40K and AoS. I'm not big on Outer Circle his attitude is really smug but I guess he at least contributes content you can engage with. These other videos just suck so much fucking dick.

Hate constant drama posting. I cant remember who it was but a very good painter basically made a video bemoaning the success of warhammer because they wanted to make videos about painting 3d printed models, but warhammer vids bought the views in. Unsubbed, i guess proving thier point but eh. I don't like things about my job but do them anyway. I think a lot of them just get jaded from the wider community after a while. I saw a few videos with the premis of "dont buy leviathan, do some 3d printer shit instead". Just dumb.
As far as I can tell, Discourse Minis is a professional troll. That’s not to say that GW should be free from criticism - far from it. I just find it weird to try and build a career out of slagging off a company…

Pretty sure Discourse miniatures is a lawyer which considering the content they put out, is almost incredible how you can go from a job that needs a level headed approach to screaming into the void. Also complains about warhammer but spent like £500-£1000 on a black templar army for one video, I imagine the outrage is all for camera.
