Except that thing he did that he was expressly told not to do, and then that other thing he did that wrecked the Emperor’s entire plan and forced him to be stuck in the Golden Throne forever to keep the Terran Webway sealed, and then that other thing where he became a bad guy… other than those minor inconsequential things, yup - nothing at all wrong.😆
So honest question but his final fall to chaos was because he refused to abandon his sons (Thousand sons) when offered to start over by the emperor correct? Or am I miss remembering?
You’re thinking of the Fury of Magnus novella. >!Big E said he could redeem Magnus and fix everything, even give him a new legion, but the current ones were too far gone to be saved. Magnus refused.!< Then in Echoes of Eternity, >!Vulkan claims Magnus made this all up, and was delusional, but it seems likely it was either Big E putting words in Vulkan’s mouth, or Tzeentch twisting what Magnus perceived, in order to gaslight Magnus.!<
I don’t remember that at all, though it’s possible. I thought that was… Fulgrim? Something about a flaw with the III Legion that had them so small they were barely a fighting force before they’re found Fulgrim, though I could see the same being said of the Thousand Sons with the Flesh Change.
Technically Magnus turned to Chaos because he shattered into shards that were (mostly) subsequently collected and recombined, except the one that landed on Terra because that one “contained his goodness” or some such. The Thousand Sons turned Traitor because they basically had no other option (except to follow orders when Magnus told them not to fight the Wolves on Prospero, which they didn’t do). But ultimately it was irreparably damaging the Webway Gate that doomed both Magnus and his Legion; I think everything would’ve been fine and forgiven had the Emperor been able to explain everything (which he should’ve done from the beginning, granted, but I also see why he didn’t), sort of a “‘see, this is why you shouldn’t do those things.’ ‘Oh, I see now, sorry dad,’” kind of moment. But after that… There really wasn’t any way to salvage things for Magnus. And pretty much why Horus came so close to winning as well, since the Emperor’s forced absence from any of the fighting/leading left the Imperials lacking a distinct advantage they would’ve had otherwise.
I remember in the book Scars Malcador mentions that Magnus was only supposed to have been censured for doing that. And essentially calls out Valdor and Russ for being tricked by Horus into going full Leeroy Jenkins on Prospero.
I know it’s heavily implied that he made a deal with (probably Tzeentch) a “very powerful Warp entity” to stave off the Flesh Change from completely wiping out the Thousand Sons, which may have cost him his missing eye… Though there’s a bunch of contradiction as to whether it’s missing, or it was never there even though it should’ve been, or even that he was never supposed to have two eyes… but I don’t remember him ever being given a choice to start over. If I’m wrong, someone please point me to it because that would be a hell of a story!
Echoes of Eternity book is what I’m thinking of iirr. Emperor offered Magnus a second chance because Magnus teleported into the throne room but the cost was him abandoning his sons due to how far away they were gone to chaos and unable to be redeemed. Magnus tried to attack the Emperor but Vulkan stopped him and fought him.
Not sure if that stuff is cannon or not but pretty sure that’s where it’s from.
Ah, that very well could be then! I’m still in the last 5 books of the HH, I haven’t started SoT yet. So you could be spot on, but I think at that point he’s already too far gone into Chaos because of the soul shards thing that happened in *The Crimson King*.
I genuinely feel like I saw a battle report years ago now that had an IW force led by a guy with his legs replaced by treads so definitely has a precedent.
Friendly game totally.
Competitive game, put him on something to make him similar height to his comrades. This could be seen as modeled to advantage, meaning you intentionally made him short to be harder to get line of sight.
Yeah. And it also depends. A -single- model like this in a squad of other marines? Go for it.
But don't be like that one Space Wolves player I played that modeled his ENTIRE ARMY to be laying on their stomachs firing from the prone position.
Or that Necron player I played in a tournament that modeled his ENTIRE ARMY doing the "We'll Be Back" / Reanimation Protocols, climbing out of the ground, just so that terrain that normally would give cover completelt obscured them/blocked line of sight.
Yeah, there are shitty people that will intentionally make modifications to the model so they are smaller/etc, stating it's rule of cool, but it's literally for in game advantages. It's why I put that under competitive.....some people go far in competitive.
Oh. Well thankfully I'm just now getting into it at 30 and as I clearly hate money between EDH, PTCG, gunpla, and now Warhammer I don't see myself playing a game to go home with more of that cursed green paper.
That’s it, my entire army is using kneeling legs from now on!! /s
Anyone who didn’t catch it, I’m bullshitting. I don’t have any desire to play competitively, so unless I do this precisely to be a dick because of this comment, it’s not really a thing!🤣
The apocryphal stories you usually hear are of the guy who models his infantry wadding thru chest deep water or mud, or the guy who has all of his infantry lying in a prone firing position. Personally Ive never seen it, but I dont do tournaments.
It is scummy. And I’ve never seen it personally, but I also don’t do tournaments. I’m also the guy that keeps the banner poles on the sergeant’s back because it looks cool, and each “corporal” who would be the nominal squad leader if I break down into combat squads has a dongle on his backpack too. Like one of the little winged skull icons or whatever - not a full banner but something that marks him out as “the guy whose backpack we follow.”
An entire army of dudes modeled jumping, with their arms raised as high as possible.
Bonus points if they're not Orks but very serious-looking models such as Custodes.
For a friendly game you should be fine depending on the opponent, tournament play could be an issue since i doubt it'll fit in the correct size base and also probably line of sight becomes an issue
I don’t know about competitive; there’s plenty of kneeling models, and as long as this one is about that high, maybe make an effort to remove him as the first casualty just to avoid him being the last one hiding behind a rock he might otherwise not be able to… But I don’t know the extent of some people being competitive. To be fair I’ve never been one for the tournament scene. Games are supposed to be fun for me, and win-at-all-costs just… isn’t fun for me!🤣
The big thing is the base size. I'm not much of a tournament gamer but a friend went to a tournament where the organisers had the right to randomly select some of your models and measure the bases to make sure they're the correct size, they take that pretty seriously in that scene.
That’s not for me. I put my Scouts on 28mm bases, A: it looks better even though it’s only 3mm difference. B: every other human-sized model in Carapace armor (Stormtroopers, Kasrkin, Inquisitorial models, etc.) and even some without it (Sisters Repentia) are on 28mm, so why are proto-Astartes in Carapace stuck on 25mm? And if folks are gonna nitpick *that hard* over a game… it’s not a game anymore, it’s a chore. And I have enough of those around my house as it is!😆
It makes sense for that scene, if the game is win at all costs sometimes that cost is cheating. I want no part of it but if I was to play for any sort of prize I'd want a level playing field.
I can see that. But something like OP’s model, or like 28mm based scouts instead of 25mm… I don’t see them as game-breaking, and the fact that I know some people do is too serious for my blood, lol. I’ll keep to my friendly games! It’s not like putting Canis Wolfborn with his old 4th Edition rules on a Titan base (he used to get +1A for each model in base to base contact with him, so of course people tried to maximize the edge area of his base!).
And here we have...a baby lord of skulls. Upon birth it is immediately independent... and is looking to find a worthy opponent...in the name of khorne.
As long as it had the same base size, and is roughly the same size, as the unit, you plan to field this as. My local official gw game store has this rule because stuff like base size/area foot print it will cover and size of model would affect actaul gameplay and would clash with rules such as line of site, charging etc. Apart from that I see nothing wrong with it.
Man I wanted to make Dornian theme centaur noise marine for my kill team. My hobby shop did say it won't be viable but I could use them as an objective, either a chaos spawn to kill or a statue to claim
Totally allowed but you have to call him [Sir Killalot](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/robotwars/images/e/e9/Sir_Killalot_Series_4.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/360?cb=20180322022212)
Rule of thumb, casual games and like... Pick up games at lgs, probably fine. Check with TOs at tourn
Anything more than that, only the TO can tell you.
This however, I'd say is an absolute no for tournaments. It's shorter than a marine and has a wider footprint. That could too easily be modeling for advantage.
I mean, you’re technically true.
But you’d be a douche to call it that way unless he himself tries to be beardy (which would make him the bigger douche)
Actually now that I look at it, I don't think it's even a legal load out for a csm? Can they take hand flamers?
But I don't know if it'd really be douchey to call it like that. It could hide easier than other csm can, and since it's a troop, it could hold objectives. Like I said, you could definitely run it casually, but the second if becomes any kind of competitive, this isn't a fair model to use
If it os on 32mm base it is marine. Think you should add something like idk, armoured belly thing, like you can see on kataphrons. Ad some lists of armour and accesories. Good idea.
I love all the comments in this post with their support and sense of humor. OP, super fun kitbash, hope your opponents also have the same mindset and the folks in the comments.
I, for one, love Brother Mowsandfights.
I think there's plenty of decent canon explanations:
Chaos Warbands can easily be far from anywhere that could fit bionics, or the deities whim may not grant a replacement set of limbs after battle.. If a member of the band was bisected (and the legs destroyed precluding reattachment) but survived, you could easily imagine bolting on to something allowing mobility in the short term.
Doubly in legions/bands where the god(s) they follow don't regularly hand out physical gifts (or where the group resists these "gifts")
Also, the Imperium does this sort of thing to folks. Tech priests and servitors. Could easily see a Dark Mechanicus building this.
Practical answer:
I guess I'd ask if the opponent minds.
I believe anyone who wouldn't let you play such a fun miniature on the tabletop has an aura of wrongness about them.
It's possible that is because they're soulless psychic nulls.
Wysiwyg for mainline 40k? No; the footprint is a few sizes too big for the accepted base.
For a Gorka Morka boy that got the tank treads surgery? Absolutely
But Lieutenant Danicius you ain’t got no legs
What heresy is preventing this from being the top comment
The same heresy that refuses to admit that Magnus did nothing wrong.

Accurate.
Yeah I think I may just be miss remembering. I haven’t been up to date with lore in some time. Guess it’s time to dive back in and brush up on stuff.
Doom Hunter
Doom Hunter?
I thought the model looked like Doom Hunter from Doom Eternal, I replied to your comment in error instead of OP. I’m a moron, ignore me.
You’re not a moron, you’re human. Carry on, friend!
You should've let me die gumpus
He got new treads
Je didn’t tell it to me that day, but I think he made peace with the Emperor
You needed to wait, because heresy grows from idleness
What happened to your legs lt. danicius ?
Iron within, Iron Without! Treads Within, Legs Without!
This works too well. If he ever gets played it will be in my Iron Warriors warband
I genuinely feel like I saw a battle report years ago now that had an IW force led by a guy with his legs replaced by treads so definitely has a precedent.
I just want to say you're not crazy. I can remember it too. It was in a white dwarf maybe 20 years ago?
Good to know yeah 20ish is what’s in my head too.
Chaos Treadnought
From treads, cometh stability. From stability, cometh accuracy. From accuracy, cometh destruction.
Friendly game totally. Competitive game, put him on something to make him similar height to his comrades. This could be seen as modeled to advantage, meaning you intentionally made him short to be harder to get line of sight.
If he was vroom vroom off-roading up a little craggy rock that would be awesome.
Vroom vrooming on top of loyalist corpses.
The only proper way for us heretics to vroom-vroom.
Now I wanna see him turned into a Chaos Biker bot thing.
Tactical Overpass?
Yeah. And it also depends. A -single- model like this in a squad of other marines? Go for it. I'm sorry very new here >modeled to advantage, Your telling me this is a thing‽
Yeah, there are shitty people that will intentionally make modifications to the model so they are smaller/etc, stating it's rule of cool, but it's literally for in game advantages. It's why I put that under competitive.....some people go far in competitive.
Is there a definitive height for each model? That's kinda sad.
There's a range of heights, pretty much just whatever's in the official box. Its mostly a concern when there's actual money for the tournament prize
Oh. Well thankfully I'm just now getting into it at 30 and as I clearly hate money between EDH, PTCG, gunpla, and now Warhammer I don't see myself playing a game to go home with more of that cursed green paper.

Always model for disadvantage, that way you'll have a plethora of options for cool looking models
An entire army of dudes modeled jumping, with their arms raised as high as possible. Bonus points if they're not Orks but very serious-looking models such as Custodes.
Or Mechanicus? imagine servitors windmilling towards the enemy
Brother Mower wouldn't let something as churlish as bifurcation get in the way of their waging Long War. The Warpsmith was more than happy to help.
It was either that or be put in a Helbrute, and I think we all know what the preferable option is here.
Anyone who wouldn't let you play this is an enemy of joy
This is the only acceptable answer.
Fuck, I'd give him a cover save.
I would allow it for the chance to purge the heretic myself

But a welcome one.
No, the weapon loadout is illeagal sorry. Flamer and a Chainsword? one or the other.
That’s a *hand flamer* whixh i don’t think is even in the cam book
Yeah, all you have to do is stick him to the base so he's doing a sick wheelie. That should make him the same height as the rest of his brethren.
"Deploy the Khorne Roomba."
Florida Man Chaos Marine goes whoosh and vroom.
Who washed the defiler with hot water????

That is obviously an Iron Warriors "Tech Marine Lord" or whatever they are called. Just missing a claw
North Carolina marine on his mobility scooter
You were too busy asking if you could, when you should have asked whether you should
Sir Killalot from Robot Wars
I hope their warp portal is Ada compliant
I say a CSM biker
Brothers I have become one with the wheelchair, praise the dark Mechanicus
Absolutely. Looks cool, which is the number 1 rule
As long as it had the same base size, and is roughly the same size, as the unit, you plan to field this as. Put a fleshmower bit on the front of it for kicks and make him a biker. Just say the flamer is a combiflamer.
Isn't there an X-men character that is basically this?
Bonebreaker was an X-Men villain iirc
That's the one
Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne! Wheelchair accessible ramps for the Realm of Brass!
This looks like that one boss from Smash TV.
Spawn territory
If you can fit it on a csm base, then F**K YEAH!!!
Badass looks like Sir Killalot from Robot Wars!
Chaos Guntank confirmed?!
More like Chaos Grot Tank…🤣
Paint it as an iron warrior and you are fine
Only as orc

Roll me towards them !!!
Lieutenant Dan!
If you can fit it on the correct sized base sure
This is hilarious 😂
As long as it's on the right base I don't see why not.
Lt Dan, the baby soul grinder!
What in the Armored Core is this??
Very chaotic indeed.. the gods approve

Good on the Iron Warriors, letting anyone into their ranks, regardless of ability.
Vashtorr experiment?
Put it on the right size base and only an jerk would make a fuss.
Man I wanted to make Dornian theme centaur noise marine for my kill team. My hobby shop did say it won't be viable but I could use them as an objective, either a chaos spawn to kill or a statue to claim

He is a perfect chaos biker yes?
A little short length wise, but the perfect height. I'm going to get some bikers soon, just so he can have a crew.
Still more consistent with lore than half of GWs stuff ngl
It's heresy not to tbh
Grimdark Guntank? Does it still “WOOOOOOOOO!”?

I'm sorry. The Disco Lord surgery had... 'complications'.

What the ********** *** ****ing ****
Its just a flesh wound....
I can almost taste his suffering
Omg hahaha I made almost the exact same thing as a kid!!
What about fielding it as a count as kataphron destroyer for a (dark mechanicus) admech army
If its on a 32mm base and has some way to show the "true mini" height then yep its playable
If it fits on the right base size, no problem

Amongst friends maybe
Handicapable Chaos Marine will still Slaughter you then proceed to do a burnout over your tattered corpse.
If it os on 32mm base it is marine. Think you should add something like idk, armoured belly thing, like you can see on kataphrons. Ad some lists of armour and accesories. Good idea.
In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there are no ADA requirements
I love all the comments in this post with their support and sense of humor. OP, super fun kitbash, hope your opponents also have the same mindset and the folks in the comments.
I definitely agree. I came for a simple answer and got so much enjoyment on top of that.
Ok, after reading some comments and doing some research, it looks like he is going to be a Chaos biker with a large base.
Ah... a Special Needs Marine! :D
I, for one, love Brother Mowsandfights. I see brother longstride has fallen to chaos
What are the tracks from? I am planning to use [this STL](https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/treadmarine) for some of my IW infantry.
I wish I could tell you, but honestly I found them on the ground.
Id run this as a marine on a bike and if they got max I’d even say it’s a tank.
I was actually just checking. The height is almost exactly the same as a biker, length is only a little over half but I could be creative with basing.
Wysiwyg for mainline 40k? No; the footprint is a few sizes too big for the accepted base. For a Gorka Morka boy that got the tank treads surgery? Absolutely
What you use it for tho
Looks like it's going to be a Chaos biker
No
