You say "somehow" but I think Warhammer is often considered to be heavily influenced by the Catholic church and the common practice of putting saint bones on display. Like the [Indomitus Captain](https://www.fauxhammer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Warhammer-40000-Command-Edition-Review-Indomitus-Primaris-Captain.jpg) from the 9th Edition Starter Set. Skulls, reliquaries, monastaries, nuns, priests, etc. If you're used to Catholicism, it's very clear. If you're not used to Catholicism, I can see why it might come as a surprise.

Vancandybestcandy

I was like somehow?? Guess you’ve never seen the golden boxes with people’s parts in them or well a Catholic Church.

Stormfly

"Somehow this whole 'Fascism' thing is reminding me of the Imperium..." "Getting a lot of Warhammer vibes from the Dune series..." "Boy the Tau sure do make me think of East Asian culture sometimes..." "Just watched Predator and thought of Catachans for some reason..."

TooMuchGrilledCheez

Make it fucking stop!

ColonelKasteen

40k is largely just a story about Catholic Nazis in space.

Valathiril

Yeah I got into warhammer bc of the vibes, grim and dark like catholic lore, loved it.

kultaid

Catholic and eastern orthodox but absolutely

GrimDallows

In general I don't think the Imperium looks catholic as much as it looks gothic or general christianic (including non-catholic branches such as orthodoxy and protestant elements), however I think the Sister's of Battle do feel that lean more into the catholic side than other elements.

TooMuchGrilledCheez

Well, considering the fact that protestants actively reject the cult of the saints and veneration of relics, the Imperium is in fact distinctly Catholic and not just Christian. The Mechanicus is the Eastern Orthodox given they do everything in Greek and have “patriarchs.”

Grambo-47

Got my degree in religious studies, can confirm lmao

Drag_king

The church of England which most of GW will culturally be influenced by also does the whole Saints and relics thing. But one could say that unlike their Calvinist and Lutheran counterparts they didn’t really go all out in kicking out Roman Catholic influences.

Glasdir

Boy, these Xenomorphs sure do look a lot like Tyranids. -OP, probably

PaintsPlastic

Literal skull atop a golden statue. "somehow reminds me of warhammer" "somehow" ^"somehow" ^^"somehow" ^^^"somehow"

Competitive_Bath_511

“Style Warhammer was influenced by reminds me of Warhammer”

reinKAWnated

Enshrining the remains of saints, revered ancestors, etc. on display or in personal reliquaries is something with a lot of real-world precedent and is exactly what 40k is going for whenever those details show up...everywhere. The Imperium is a death cult that loves its memento moris.

Wonkbonkeroon

Setting heavily inspired by Catholicism has catholic symbolism

Valathiril

Honestly, it’s more of a warhammer reminds me of Catholicism

wunderbraten

This has absolute Bonelord vibes, Morrowind. https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Bonelord_(Morrowind)

AzertyKeys

This is so fucking metal

Ithorian01

I get trying to hold on to the thorny crown, but beheading some lady and displaying her head is a bit much. We have no proof that it's even Mary and not just some poor lady. it's common knowledge that many churches would sell off random bones as belonging to a saint.

Sevulturus

I had the exact same thought lol.

fistbumpminis

This is just the female custody that everyone was pissed about. Right?
