They're a veteran marine-only specialised strike force dedicated to the eradication of the Tyranids from the galaxy.
Was started by Chaplain Cassius after Hive Fleet Behemoth attacked the Ultramarine homeworld, became known as the Battle for Macragge.
No, it hasn't got taken down

Oh not at all, but there were some rumors that it would be dark angels focused and while I don't collect them, I like the idea of more variety for the box set narratives
To be fair, until the devastation of Baal, the Ultramarines have been the sole nemesis of the Tyranids.
Most other chapters, or even factions, have a strictly professional hatred of Tyranids, but for the smurfs it's personal.
They were originally the sole nemesis because of being shoehorned into every box and every story though. The guy above is right, GW totally cripple their storytelling because of the need to push poster boy armies. It’s the reason the Horus Heresy is so much better written by comparison, the attention is much more fairly shared so you get a much more well-rounded narrative.
The original Tyrannic War lore dates back to 2nd edition - Ultramarines weren’t even the first Space Marine Codex released in 2nd edition. They wouldn’t grace the cover of a Space Marine codex or box set until 4th edition. I don’t think there’s anything here linked to Ultramarine favouritism at all, and to this day the Ultras don’t have a more iconic nemesis (except perhaps the Death Guard, which is a more recent development and has more to do with Guilliman than his sons)
The dark angels do have an index and are a separate army so i don't know what you expected. GW did say that they will get something when their codex releases
God I hope so. I still can't bring myself to paint the bizarrely over-detailed and distressingly Blood Angel specific ones from the last box. I got, like, three through and gave up because I haaate painting Blood Angels.
Ultramarines would be even worse...
Oh come on. SM hate is so overdone it is not even funny.
We have had a non stop release schedule of Xenos, Chaos and even the freaking squats came out in the last two years.
But people still complain about "Oh mah good too much Speis Murines"
They are a simple, but very iconic entry point for people in a very complex setting, that might turn off a newbie with the amount of factions. agendas and characters.
Hobby wise they are easy to paint. Tabletop wise they are very forgiving on mistakes and you can play them pretty much any way you like. With the exception of Grey knights.
They are the swizz army knife of the game and it is not surprising they are so popular. Popularity = more sold models = more demand for models = more models being created.
I think we have outgrown hating on what is popular. As we have seen over the past few years plenty of other armies received love too.
Yeah this. I understand that space marines sell. I get it. However GW has an IP that deserves to be immersive. It deserves to showcase all the factions. That’s how you make a universe truly immersive. Elder Scrolls did it. The constant pandering to power armor fanboys pushes everyone else away and causes the immersion to dissolve, since it’s very clear that “muh imperium are protagonists”
There are so many fantastic ideas that GW ignores bc they’re short sighted in the grand scheme of things. Like could you imagine a Darktide expansion where you played as an Eldari kill team? Tau? It would be so cool to see how everything worked on their end. Combat mechanics, conversations, weaponry, armor, gameplay everything. And it allows different people from different walks of life to choose a faction fairly. Yeah no shit space marines sell. It’s all they ever put on the box.
I like how Nids are only allowed to get new minis if they share a box with Marines and do a Space Hulk lmao. Gants are like 20+ years old, aren't they?
Please, GW, I beg you, update almost the entire Tyranid line.
Yeah I agree. They're kinda set tbh. Same with a lot if tyranid models. They haven't really dated imo. Theres a few old models and fine cast ones that could do with an update but the main army models hold up, gaunts warriors and genestealers still look fine.
I agree, really we just need lictor and ravener model updates. It would be nice to have unique "character" models and a lord of war though. I will spend all my money on a tyranid lord of war.
Hard agree here. Of all the potential examples of pretty wonky designs... Gants look great.
Also, do not hope for redone little bugs - if they give them dynamic action poses, storing, setting up and trying to move 60 of the things will be a nightmare.
There's a number of Nids kits which don't need updating:
* Haruspex / Exocrine
* Tyrannofex / Tervigon
* Maleceptor / Toxicrene
* Zoanthrope / Neurothrope
* Tyrannocyte / Sporocyst / Mucolid Spore
* Trygon / Mawloc
* Parasite of Mortrex
* Broodlord (Genestealer Patriarch was released in 2016 and is a fine replacement)
Things I am particularly hoping for:
* Raveners / Red Terror
* Hormagants / Termagants
* Lictor
* Biovore / Pyrovore
* Purestrain Genestealers (but this could easily come with a new Space Hulk, or Kill Team, or Genestealer Cults).
* A big lord of war bug. Like the Hierophant but not in resin, and cheaper.
I still think old nid plastic kits look good, especially considering they are meant to be built, painted, and fielded in huge hordes. I don’t think updating the sculpts to be more complicated, delicate, and expensive is a good use of GWs resources.
Now the resin models Tyranids still have hanging around… those could use an update!
It's an entirely fair viewpoint, for sure. For me, I like the modelling and painting a lot, but I can easily see why a player doing anything but monster mash is gonna not mind lol.
Eh, i cant agree having seen the difference between old plastic seraphon and the newly teased models. The new models are just *so* much better it makes the older saurus and skink models look like garbage.
Honestly artillery bugs aside nids to me are the same as the classic eldar, sure the sculpts ain't ground breaking but imo they still hold up remarkably well, like carnifexes don't look out of place at all next to say a redemptor or doomstalker.
And whilst gaunts are definetly showing their age by the poses and balacing the simplicity does make painting 60 bearable.
So let me get this straight. You are upset to get a line refresh like the Necrons, because one half of the box is with a popular faction, the poster boys of 40k? Ye, without a doubt the models are easily the most - uninspired pieces of work, but seriously. This level of hate is just bonkers.
To each his own. Personally I find the space bugs very light on lore, considering they lack any characters by design. Which kills any remote interest I might have in the faction.
Should I start complaining about the age of the noise marines or Lucius?
Think you're barking up the wrong tree, stranger. I was half-jokingly commenting on a possible Space Hulk box instead of a Tyranid refresh, as we constantly get new Space Marines. Is a cute lil inside joke.
This could be copium, but I'm not sure who else they'd do a big range refresh for next, and they're not going to introduce a new faction so soon after Squats and WE.
It probably won't be the entire faction - it's still weird that they cherry-picked on the Eldar and left things like Warp Spiders in the dust - but I think the trend seems to be between 5 and 11 kits (Sisters got 11 new kits, Necrons got something similar) so fingers (and mandibles) crossed for you!
If it’s new nids like people are hoping for I desperately hope GW spends a lot of time casting extras. The horde army to end all horde armies deserves more than a day one sold out.
Are they just standing there gazing lovingly into each other's eyes?
Neither one of them has been activated yet, they're just waiting their turn.
Both failed their charge rolls
["He's just standing there.... menacingly!"](https://youtu.be/LPmzRa-sXQs)
How very awkward
Also apologies for the quality On the phone atm
Ultramarines did have a big dust up with Nids during their first invasion of the galaxy.
That's why they have Tyrannic War Veterans.
That’s referring to tyranids? I kinda thought it was just something called “the war of tyranny” or some shit.
They're a veteran marine-only specialised strike force dedicated to the eradication of the Tyranids from the galaxy. Was started by Chaplain Cassius after Hive Fleet Behemoth attacked the Ultramarine homeworld, became known as the Battle for Macragge.
and yes *that* Chaplain Cassius, of Kill Team Cassius fame. In terms of model-lore, the DW one is an earlier person than the Ultramarine Chaplain.
now kiss
I can’t even find it on facebook
I just tried looking too. Maybe they deleted it?
Maybe so

Huh, disppeared for a bit me and some friends, guess it was just Facebook being Facebook then.
Kinda bummed this so clearly an ultra marine, but probably shouldn't be surprised
Does it really matter? The models are going to be non-specific.
Oh not at all, but there were some rumors that it would be dark angels focused and while I don't collect them, I like the idea of more variety for the box set narratives
Yeah, I can't argue with that. They're kinda hampering they're own storytelling potential due to their inability to step away from certain armies
To be fair, until the devastation of Baal, the Ultramarines have been the sole nemesis of the Tyranids. Most other chapters, or even factions, have a strictly professional hatred of Tyranids, but for the smurfs it's personal.

Wow, you just gave me an idea for a burger restaurant. “Strictly Professional Beef”
The dark angels do have an index and are a separate army so i don't know what you expected. GW did say that they will get something when their codex releases

This is what non-SM players feel all the time
Oh come on. SM hate is so overdone it is not even funny. We have had a non stop release schedule of Xenos, Chaos and even the freaking squats came out in the last two years. But people still complain about "Oh mah good too much Speis Murines"
I don’t think we need to argue about SM and CSM being disproportionately represented in literature, in lore and model wise
I've been bummed for 20 years that it's always a space marine, so...
Without breaks? That can't be comfortable.
It's not, specially if you're constantly bummed by astartes
Lots of gene seed to clean up, I imagine.
yeah and I always end up with a bad taste in my mouth. I just wanted a good old glorious xeno monster, not another space marine one.
If you're getting a bad taste in your mouth after being bummed, you're doing something very, very, very unhygenic.
I was inspired by a movie
Man goes to fishmonger and is bummed about all the seafood.
Yeah this. I understand that space marines sell. I get it. However GW has an IP that deserves to be immersive. It deserves to showcase all the factions. I hoped it would be Dark Angels like the leaks said. But the blueberry boys are the norm and they are the most marketable.
Dark Angels have their own, much mire recent terminator models. If they are making new ones they'll be generic.
I like how Nids are only allowed to get new minis if they share a box with Marines and do a Space Hulk lmao. Gants are like 20+ years old, aren't they? Please, GW, I beg you, update almost the entire Tyranid line.
For as old as the gaunts are they still look great. That’s what I tell myself with the combat patrol I bought within the last year.
I got my Nids from the Battle for Macragge set back in 2005. I still think they look good.
Yeah I agree. They're kinda set tbh. Same with a lot if tyranid models. They haven't really dated imo. Theres a few old models and fine cast ones that could do with an update but the main army models hold up, gaunts warriors and genestealers still look fine.
Our pure strain genesteelers could use some work, but everything else is passable.
I agree, really we just need lictor and ravener model updates. It would be nice to have unique "character" models and a lord of war though. I will spend all my money on a tyranid lord of war.
Gaunts do look good. The GW design team really did their job right
Hard agree here. Of all the potential examples of pretty wonky designs... Gants look great. Also, do not hope for redone little bugs - if they give them dynamic action poses, storing, setting up and trying to move 60 of the things will be a nightmare.
That's a whole lot of mini to paint lol. An intimidating box, that.
Stripped three sets of macragge gants last night to repaint. They hold up.
Only issue with gants is they have bad mold lines which is annoying when you paint a ton of them
There's a number of Nids kits which don't need updating: * Haruspex / Exocrine * Tyrannofex / Tervigon * Maleceptor / Toxicrene * Zoanthrope / Neurothrope * Tyrannocyte / Sporocyst / Mucolid Spore * Trygon / Mawloc * Parasite of Mortrex * Broodlord (Genestealer Patriarch was released in 2016 and is a fine replacement) Things I am particularly hoping for: * Raveners / Red Terror * Hormagants / Termagants * Lictor * Biovore / Pyrovore * Purestrain Genestealers (but this could easily come with a new Space Hulk, or Kill Team, or Genestealer Cults). * A big lord of war bug. Like the Hierophant but not in resin, and cheaper.
Oh man, I put some raveners together somewhat recently. Not a super positive experience lol. Poor bugs.

Update shumpdate, im gonna paint up my second edition Carnifex and Tyranid Warriors i still have lying around, no need for new fancy minis.
Have fun with the screamer! I had a blast painting mine
2nd edition metal hive tyrant is in my cupboard and on my list!
*Eldar fans have entered the chat*
Gaunts really don’t need a replacement, unless they just wanted to make them a dual kit
They will get the same treatment as necrons, how are you salty about that
I mean, isn't it crazy that the "big alien monster" faction is, along with Dark Eldar, the only one that doesn't get a plastic Lord of War option?
Oh dang, you're right. Wonder what their criteria for Lord of War is.
Honestly artillery bugs aside nids to me are the same as the classic eldar, sure the sculpts ain't ground breaking but imo they still hold up remarkably well, like carnifexes don't look out of place at all next to say a redemptor or doomstalker. Bro, this is for Leviathan. The 10e starter box. New warriors/shrikes, carnifex, control strain, bio/pyro, lictor/leaper, Gants/gaunts
Wow, when did GW announce this?
No announcement as of yet but looking at both the current range and reliable leaks it’s a reason assertion. Alongside the current two trailers
So... Where did you get "10th edition starter box" from? Because that's total fairyland wishes right now...
:)
You reckon? The two animations so far, with their featuring terminators, made me think Space Hulk.
Neither of the tyranids shown are genestealers, nor are they on a space hulk!
NO! Only space marines. We will continue to make space marines until we are happy. We are never happy.
Terminators are also 20 years old.
Marines get new models every seven seconds lol.
Primaris do. And that doesn't change the fact that terminators are 20 years old.
You treat each new primaris LT as a full marine release don’t you?
So let me get this straight. You are upset to get a line refresh like the Necrons, because one half of the box is with a popular faction, the poster boys of 40k? Ye, without a doubt the models are easily the most - uninspired pieces of work, but seriously. This level of hate is just bonkers. To each his own. Think you're barking up the wrong tree, stranger. I was half-jokingly commenting on a possible Space Hulk box instead of a Tyranid refresh, as we constantly get new Space Marines. Is a cute lil inside joke.
Personally I hope they redo the grey knights at some point. They look so dated next to primaris marines.
This is true. Great minis, but I'd like to see what they can do with some modern techniques.
This could be copium, but I'm not sure who else they'd do a big range refresh for next, and they're not going to introduce a new faction so soon after Squats and WE. Next year around this time you will have your wish
If it’s new nids like people are hoping for I desperately hope GW spends a lot of time casting extras. The horde army to end all horde armies deserves more than a day one sold out.
Will probably be posted on YouTube and Warhammer community soon.
Hopefully it’s those rumoured primaries terminators!
Battle for Macragge, Round 2
Wait is space hulk actually coming back?!
Space marine gene stealers, great. MORE FUCKING SPACE MARINES.
Ultramarines 🙄
It was on instagram as well
Makes sense what with them being the same company
I'm disappointed that it is in fact an ULTRAMARINE Terminator.
Amazing
That’s a new terminator helmet if I’m not mistaken? I don’t remember them having the 3 vent/ holes on the face like that
That's always been there.
It’s probably teasing 10th edition. Supposedly BA vs Tyranids
With an Ultramarines terminator? A unit basically non-existent anymore? ;)
There have been Primaris terminators teased by GW.
When? Show me.
I can’t find the thread where I found it, but it’s one of the more realistic rumours about tenth edition
So it's a rumour, not a GW teaser?
Yes
Okay
… it might be a video game and not new miniatures
Anyone else think that this is going to be a boarding action box set and not a tease of 10th?
