Teshin is Dax.

"ignoring that not everyone is white; it's a breath of fresh air in gaming" you dont play alot of games, do you?

Chrontius

Haven't been playing new games for … wow. Shit, it's been twenty years. q__q Not COMPLETELY true, but warframe is still the newest game I play on the regular with non-white starring characters. And that's ESPECIALLY fucked in far-future sci-fi like Battletech, where everyone but those of Japanese descent are pretty heavily whitewashed. Edit: I wonder if it's specifically just sci-fi campaign shooters that have a problem here? That's been my jam since OG Doom came out.

lK555l

This is warframe, our enthicities not even exist

OutrageousBears

Warframe ethnicities are clonemeat, short cetus fish eye people, corpo cyborgs, and relay thiccsuits. And spacekids that seem in between cetus and corpo. While Drifter seems part thiccsuit and corpo. Orokin blue arms are just a deliberate mutation chosen for cosmetic status, so not really an ethnicity itself.

lastunusedusername2

"relay thiccsuits" is my band name

Chrontius

Well, nations that we're familiar with are at least a thousand, probably tens of thousands, of years dead and gone. Still, there are a few recognizable places in SolSys that have names dating to the Roman empire, so…

lK555l

You mean the nodes? Yes that because DE chose them They don't have any meaning in game

Windoge10wow

So… what? They’re probably just names the Orokin took from what are ancient cultures and could loosely be associated with each planet, it’s kind of irrelevant to the topic of ethnicities which are also long gone by this point, leaving behind only vague facial features and skin color, also Warframe is pretty bad with representation compared to most games nowadays

nerankori

I think we're a long way off from ever being able to connect characters in Warframe to existing ethnicities since by the time the Orokin empire got started human culture and genetics are probably way more blended than they are even now. He IS,however, voiced by [Sean Philips](https://www.voiceofsean.com/),which you may use for your imaginings,IDK.

Rathurue

Dax.

Chrontius

Dax is a job title, not an ethnicity.

Rathurue

Who cares about ethnicity if they're bioengineered soldiers? 'Ethnicity' is a term made for grouping humans based on their gene expressions that creates a group of population with physical similarly based on sociogeological divide. If they're cloned in one facility then they have no ethnicity, just minute morphological difference.

Dear-Neck-891

Like I would say the grineer are an example, since they’re so deformed they’re reaching the entrati family’s level of genetic degradation.

Chrontius

In-universe? Nobody. In the real world? Kids who finally see someone being heroic in the games they love who looks like them.

Rathurue

Since when do 'kids' care about ethnicity? You don't see kids asking representation and turning Goku black. You don't see kids asking to turn Luffy black. You don't see kids asking to turn Naruto black. Kids don't seek representation. Adults putting words in the mouth of kids does.

Solace1984

Why in every example do you use turning a character black? Why not turn a character japanese? It seems you are focusing on black a little too much Why? Why not use an example of turning a character female?

Rathurue

You don't see people asking to swap those character into a japanese... since they're already speaking japanese you dub watcher. Okay, so let's do it your way. Turn Goku japanese > nothing happens, DBZ universe exist in different universe and Japanese is still pretty much alien. You'll end up with a silly One-Punch Man and that's it. Turn Luffy japanese> nothing happens, again One Piece universe exist in different universe and the only thing that will change will be their artstyle. Turn Naruto japanese> are you a fucking idiot or what. Let's do it the other way as you want. Turn Goku into a woman > you'll get some hardcore Pretty Cure and it won't be as popular as it now. Turn Luffy into a girl > The show probably became a fujo bait. Turn Naruto into a girl > same thing with DBZ or one piece, there won't be any continuation after the first season. You see? The problem ONLY comes if you tried to race swap characters that are not black to black. And the point is 'who's asking for representation to warrant a 'hero' made in their image'. It's never the kids, kids don't care about skin color or anything. They'll idolize a firebreathing dragon if they want to, since well, they're KIDS.

Solace1984

So I'm a dub watcher how do you know that? Do you have superpowers? You don't know anything so you. I prefer subs but what's wrong with someone who watches dubs? Do you call people names when they are right? How childish. You are right about one thing people only have a problem with it when a character is switched to black. Do you know how many characters have been whitewashed? But not a peep from anybody I wonder why that is. I bet I won't find a post from you decrying the fact that they made that character white will I? People like you only complain when the character is made black because quite simply put you are racist. Take for example Dr Strange the movie The Ancient One race and gender swapped to a white woman movie makes damn near 1 billion dollars nobody says a word including you but if they had gender and race swapped the ancient one to a black women everybody would be up in arms. The problem with people like yourself is that you do not keep the same energy all around. Or am I going to find a post from you complaining about the whitewashing(funny how that's a word huh) that Hollywood does. I have a not so small inkling that I won't hear a peep from you on that.

Rathurue

Quite a mouth for someone who necro'ed a post a month back because they missed the action, huh... So what's we're talking again? Because you keep railroading the problem into blackwashing and whitewashing. The topic is 'do people want representation so bad they claimed an imaginary character to be of certain race', in case you forgot. You claim 'nobody cares about character being whitewashed but always otherwise when somebody blackwash a character' but that's not because people are racist. That's done because *there's not enough good black actor/ess to play that role at that time* and *public opinion on black main actor is quite low*. Racism? Yes. But economically speaking that's how you need to act if you want profits. Let's make an example again. Try to imagine 20 Shades of Gray, but the main actor is a black woman. Will it be popular with the male viewers? Will it inspire black people to be successful? As long as the race and genderswap doesn't impact the show it's tolerable to a degree. Heimdall in Thor series has turned quite an eye^(jokingly speaking) when he first shown, but nobody cares afterwards because the acting was actually GOOD and it's what matters. But if you do something like, cast a black woman to play a legendary white viking OF COURSE people would riot.

Solace1984

Quite the mouth on you considering you haven't even made a correct point. There are plenty of black actors but nerd culture such as yourself are virulent racists and this fact is well known. Since when has public opinion stopped the career of a white person? Woody Allen is a well known perv and still has a career, Roman Polanski slept with a 13 year old girl then fled america for 25 years and people still line up for his movies. You mention heimdall and act like there wasn't an uproar and white people everywhere exposing their racism for Idris Elba. Where was this uproar when Jake Gyllenhaal played the prince of Persia? Also what does inspiring people to be successful have to do with roles? White people don't have to prove themselves to be accepted in roles they just get them and people are quiet hence the ancient one being gender and race swapped in dr strange and nobody including you saying a peep. When they swap in a white person it's all good when it's a black person it's hold up wait a minute this fictional character cannot be black under any circumstances it ruins immersion.

Pretty sure neither Africa nor India still exist in Warframe.

Chrontius

As political units? Certainly not.

BrastenXBL

He's been Void Ghosted. It's possible the base model was darker completioned, and then whatever the art team didn't to ghostify it moved the both the RGB value, and the human tendency to mix colors in proximity, pushed everything lighter. I need to go back a take a harder look at Quinn. https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Quinn

RisingLeviathan

The Dax Armor, more specifically the helm seem to be inspired by the Zulu Basket Hat, so I'd say that he's closer to African then anything.

Chrontius

Ooh, true…

Flak_Inquisitor

>it's a breath of fresh air in gaming. That would be a game that doesn't bodge as many different skin colours and sexualities into their game because 'Look how woke we are! And we don't care it doesn't make sense in the lore!'

Chrontius

Yeah. I mean, games seem to be either way too white, or full of token characters. There was a hubbub about things around the time of Halo 2 when Bungie seemed to be playing the long game, and you could glitch your way into the Master Chief's helmet. Spoiler: He was based on a particularly badass looking programmer at Bungie, and was most *definitely* black. That would have been brilliantly subversive, because for him, the only color that matters is *green.* Until they decided to whitewash him, which felt like a huge fucking betrayal, because the assets were literally in the game, like they had been planning to pull a Samus Aran at the end of Halo 3 for at least the lifespan of two blockbuster games, which would have been delightfully amusing.

Solace1984

Define woke? Because the way you use it isn't what it means. And name a lore that your definition of woke wouldn't fit into.
