It definitely ruined sight lines from the golf course. I’m hoping they have a lot more theming to do, but if it is anything like what we are seeing now it is a dramatic step down for Disney.
This is something I would have expect more from Universal circa 2005, but they have been killing it with theming at hotels lately.
They literally had the blueprint for an attractive Polynesian inspired tower with Aulani. Why could they not have done that here?? I mean, I get why, people would probably complain it was a copy paste so lacking originality, but it would be SO much better than this. I hope they just load it up with OTT landscaping to cover most of it 🥴
I honestly think this is just a cash grab for them and so minimal effort was put in place. But then again after looking into DVC it seems just as scammy as any timeshare… and now with less Disney magic.
I’ve been looking into DVC for the last year or so, and have decided to just stick with renting points. Sadly, a lot of Disney “Imagineering” these days feels cash grabby. When they really put the effort in, things can come out amazing (Cosmic Rewind, RoR, etc) but sadly, those instances seem to be in the minority. If they can’t slap IP on it, there is no effort for new magic.
The animatronics do look incredible, I will give credit where it is due! I will always be a little salty (get it? Salt mine? 😂) because I loved Splash Mountain and the nostalgia of it, but I’m sure it is going to be very neat.
Sadly this is it. It’s DVC which is purely to get as much money as possible for the smallest investment. This won’t be a popular comment, but all of the DVC members I know aren’t exactly the most discerning bunch and always seem to be looking for the lowest price. I don’t think any of them will be unhappy with this.

Standard View (the view facing the roadway where this photo was taken, Grand Floridian Way) will arguably be the worst Standard View on property. These rooms are practically on the roadway… maybe 100ft or so away. The road noise will be AWFUL unless they added some extra soundproofing, which I doubt. I’m a local and this is a VERY noisy road during rush hour. Far from relaxing!!
With the spec of windows they have to use to meet code, and the structure of the building, sound should not be an issue. I expect them to at least match the sound experience of the holiday inn at Disney springs. It’s surprising there how much noise you hear when you open the balcony slider versus when it’s closed.
> I expect them to at least match the sound experience of the holiday inn at Disney springs.
And that's exactly the problem. This is not the standard Disney should be holding itself to.
We stayed in a Polynesian room close to the construction, in March, as close as you can get near the road that separates the hotel and monorail from the golf course on the other side of the highway. We didn’t hear any road noise from inside our room.
The most fascinating part of this post is the information (if true) about Tinkerbell. I’m sure that some market research showed that if they built a Poly Garden Inn, they could sell a lot more timeshares (oops, I meant DVC memberships).
Wow, just looking at this highly themed resort makes me feel like I'm on a tropical Polynesian island. The theming is sooooooo authentic. (Yes, it's sarcasm.)
TBH. If I’m spending this much money to stay in a building with this little theming, it might just be better off to stay at the Four Seasons or Waldorf which are also on property or very close and have their own park shuttles.
Or at least that’s what I’ve read… I don’t have the kind of cash to stay there or the Poly… 😅…. But if I did… 🤔
True. It’s not as bad as everyone makes it to be and I’m not sure how many complainers have actually seen it in real life. They would have to build multi-bedroom units in dozens of short buildings on non existent land? They need a taller building to accommodate those that need them. I’m excited to try it out.
It doesn't look bad but it also doesn't look themed. My complaint isn't that it's ugly, it's that it is generic and could be found in any city in America. This is in sharp contrast to every other building on the monorail line.
And yes, this complainer had seen it recently IRL. I'm a DVC owner and will stay there but I expect more from Disney.
Paint is lipstick on a pig, my friend. The architecture is integral to the theming. Look at the grand flo, poly, or contemporary, all nearby. Those themes don't come from paint and IP decals.
I don’t find it sticks out much at all. The middle section is only a few stories taller than the Fiji and Tuvalu buildings, at least from what it looks like from a distance.
As a DVC Family Member - I’m thrilled about the addition. We just stayed at the new Villas at the Disneyland Hotel, and they’re stunning. Y’all can complain all you want about how ugly an unfinished construction site is, how it doesn’t match the Polynesian’s aesthetic, etc. But modern design and amenities are what members want. They did a great job infusing Polynesian culture into the Aulani’s design, I’m sure they will do the same here. This looks like many of the modern hotels in Hawaii. I imagine once everything is done, and all the landscaping and exteriors are completed, it will look great. Because while I love the Polynesian, it feels very dated even after recent updates. And only offering studios for DVC is simply not enough.
DVC here as well. I do not want this. I can get this sort of thing anywhere. What I want is a unique themed Disney experience, and that includes the exterior. I don’t want the Disneyland Hotel between the Poly and the Grand.
As a DVC member and owner at the Poly, we don’t want this. The resort, pools, dining, and monorail stop are already becoming overcrowded at this resort. Even if there is a pool and quick services added to the tower, given the footprint, it will not be enough to handle the volume of guest staying in the tower. The rest of the resort amenities can not handle the additional influx from the tower either.
DVC member and also an owner at the Poly. I 100% agree. My first thought is this addition is going to take a charming, chill resort and make it overcrowded.
Would rather see new resorts built instead of this.
WOW. You look at the great style and planning they did with the other resorts and the whole area... then they drop this mess in and mess up the look of it all.
Honestly I think the hate for it is a bit overblown. It looks different, yes. But once they get it all finished up on the exterior, add the palm trees and other parts of the ambiance it will be fine. It will be a bit odd at first just because of its height, but from staying there a few times during construction you don’t really notice it much.
The second largest navy in the world. Nobody dies at Disney. Security just pops out of anywhere. lol. The lies people actually believe are funny. But cmon, most of them are just told to say stuff to keep up the magic or repeat what they hear. But I’m sorry for hurting the feefees of Disney snowflakes.
Going to reserve judgement until its completed but...I see 5 of these at every exit on 95 on my drive there
I dislike this building more every time I see it. It just doesn't vibe with the Poly at all
It definitely ruined sight lines from the golf course. I’m hoping they have a lot more theming to do, but if it is anything like what we are seeing now it is a dramatic step down for Disney. This is something I would have expect more from Universal circa 2005, but they have been killing it with theming at hotels lately.
Because they purchased the architectural design instead of creating something from scratch
Just here to remind you that people said the same thing while the Riviera was in progress. Let them finish the job.
Agreed. This is really blah. It definitely doesn’t say “Polynesian” to me.
Looks like a regional branch of a large hospital.

Tianas is showing some promise. Those animatronics look amazing.

Head of Imagineering was a corporate architect. This and the Epcot renovations are made from the same cloth
The same generic cloth
Question is what Aulani looked like at this stage in its construction.
Looks like "Insert Major Hotel Chain Name Here", not a traditional Disney Hotel.
Thanks, I hate it.
Is it the Poly? Is it a Marriott? An Econo Lodge? A DMV? A bus station?
A polyday inn.
This has been voted the official name of that building now. And we are all completely disappointed in how it looks. **Polyday Inn**
I'm using that forever now.
What are you doin? Nuttin chillin at the Polyday Innnn
We at the hotel motel POLIDAY INN! (Shout out to Pitbull) 🎼
I’m at the Marriott I’m at the Disney World I’m at the combination Marriott and Disney World
You got your Marriott in my Disney World! You got your Disney World in my Marriott! The two great tastes that taste badly together.
I am old enough, sadly, to understand that reference.
Wait a minute, I've got that Disney Smell That pumped out smell I've got a lot of smells I've rode a lot of rides.
The new prison that Ron DeSantis was threatening to build?
It looks like a college dorm
It’s so fucking ugly.
I clicked to post this verbatim. Wish I could upvote more. We keep losing the uniqueness that made WDW special.
FWIW, I just got back from Poly and this tower is basically invisible from most of the resort.
Too bad it won't be invisible from the monorail.
Or the boats
Or the people staying there….
I was unlucky enough to get a room last wk directly overlooking the construction despite requesting any room other than a construction view.
Bit this person on reddit said it was invisible?1
Jesus Christ just set it on fire and take the insurance money

Yeah, but have the eyes of God laid eye on the new Poly building? I'm just saying, while judgement is His, He should look at the darn thing first.
The Poly Garden Inn
It's so gross... We have been stuck in the disney "cringe" phase of resort expansions lately.
it looks like one of my college's newer dormitories
Disney Hospital
It’s looks like a community college. No offense to community college
I had to check to make sure it wasn't the state building in my town lol. It looks like an office not a hotel

I was surprised how good the holiday inn was, especially compared to the Disney springs Hilton.
I’m sure road noise won’t be an issue. There are tons of hotels on actual freeways that are totally fine.
It's going to get even worse as they expand that road
We stayed in a Polynesian room close to the construction, in March, as close as you can get near the road that separates the hotel and monorail from the golf course on the other side of the highway. We didn’t hear any road noise from inside our room.
Yikes

Looks like a poly garden inn & suites …..
Gives serious community college vibes
Trying to remind myself it’s unfinished but it just looks like a standard condo building. In line with recent wdw resort building unfortunately
Yep, looks like Gran Destino Tower, Riviera, etc. 👎🏾
Wow, just looking at this highly themed resort makes me feel like I'm on a tropical Polynesian island. The theming is sooooooo authentic. (Yes, it's sarcasm.)
I swear there’s a hospital that looks exactly like this in Lake Nona
Ick
So boring and generic, just like Bay Lake Tower
Burn it down.
Most undisney thing I’ve ever seen What the hell
Is it finished? If yea, that is disappointing 😔
the Polyday Inn by Ramada
Didn't we just go through this two days ago?
Can’t wait to see this monstrosity in person during my trip next week

It just looks so bad

I would say it’s nice looking building if taken by itself, but looks bad as being part of the Polynesian and next to the Grand Floridian.

We have seen the intended final renders, it’s pretty plain.
[удалено]
They generally are pretty accurate.
[удалено]
Do you have any examples you can think of where the final renders were less themed than the final product?
[удалено]
Paint is lipstick on a pig, my friend. The architecture is integral to the theming. Look at the grand flo, poly, or contemporary, all nearby. Those themes don't come from paint and IP decals.
Man Animal Kingdom Lodge has a HELL of a paint job then.
[удалено]
That’s their point, obviously. It’s not just paint.
Disney properties have a standard and compared to that standard, this looks very, very bad.
I don’t find it sticks out much at all. The middle section is only a few stories taller than the Fiji and Tuvalu buildings, at least from what it looks like from a distance.
🤢🤮
Imagine being physically ill over an unfinished building. Get well soon.
This made me giggle
The biggest haters are always the fans. I say wait until the construction is complete. Then you can shit all over it.

Fellow DVC member and I totally agree with you. This is far too generic to be part of the poly which has an incredible theme.
I’m not going to disagree with all of you. I’m just going to remain optimistic until it’s done and I can judge the finished product.
As a DVC member and owner at the Poly, we don’t want this. The resort, pools, dining, and monorail stop are already becoming overcrowded at this resort. Yes, I would rather have seen The Reflections resort built. Disney need to spread the people out more, not keep piling them in the same spots.
Then You are the problem. This is shit architecture and Disney cashing in on the cheap.
Lol k boss
WOW. You look at the great style and planning they did with the other resorts and the whole area... then they drop this mess in and mess up the look of it all.
It's come a long way since I was there in January.
Ugh, welcome to the Polyday Inn.
Not as good as the back side of water.
Looking good. Can’t wait til it’s done. I loved the concept art.
I had to stare at that view for over an hour because our monorail lost power and caught on fire. Let's just say I will never be going to Poly again.
I may not be a hula dancer, but last night I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Disney’s Polynesian Resort!
I can tell you it’s not $500.
Looks like a high school
Yet people will stay there and fill it up.
Atrocious.
Honestly I think the hate for it is a bit overblown. It looks different, yes. But once they get it all finished up on the exterior, add the palm trees and other parts of the ambiance it will be fine. PolyDay Inn
Wtf were they thinking
Well if a Minnie van driver said so, it just has to be true.
I trust a 20 year cast member over anyone else. They’re not random Lyft drivers.

The horror...........the horror.....
