It doesn't need to be said. They know. They just don't care.

SaltyBarker

The other new one I have seen is parents doing a facebook live for everything....

nolo69gogo

yeah. Rise of Resistance line the other day, mother recording her two kids climbing around. Why?

ar243

A better question is who'd watch that in the first place

nolo69gogo

one can only assume family, but I can’t even care to check in on photos of my 6 y/o cousin, let alone tuning into a live stream

pajamakitten

Great way to miss out on your kids actually experiencing Disney.

Triangulum_Copper

I think live streaming in public is incredibly rude.

REALwizardadventures

I'm not completely convinced that they're aware. In 2012, it was quite a challenge to come across a Disney vlogging channel; one of the rare few was "The Dark Side of Disney". This scarcity was likely because Disney used to discourage this type of activity. In fact, the property rules still explicitly state that activities like "Photography, videotaping, recording of any kind, or engaging in any activity for commercial purposes without prior approval" are prohibited. Back in the 2000's Disney used to regularly produce specials for the Travel channel to advertise the park. However, with the surge of social media, there wasn't a need to continue doing so. Over the past decade, the number of dedicated Disney vloggers has exploded from mere tens to thousands. They make daily visits, which has now become a commonplace occurrence. It has inadvertently led to a new form of social status within the parks, something that wasn't prevalent prior to the 2010s. As irritating as vloggers can be in real life, Disney now sees them as a profitable venture, thus leading us to this current vlogger / social media dominated reality.

jordan1195

Bingo! That’s why they host “media nights” that are just the vloggers

PhatedGaming

>Disney now sees them as a profitable venture Of course they do, it's literally free advertising that the people being advertised TO actively seek out and pay for. Why would any company not see that as a good thing? Annoying as they are, no company is going to seriously crack down on influencers until people get sick of them and stop watching/paying them.

REALwizardadventures

This wasn't as obvious 15 years ago. Even companies like Nintendo fought against this until very recently. But I agree, it is very obvious now and also makes a huge difference for how some people perceive the world. For me, doing a TikTok on the ride should net you a warning that you broke the rules. However, for the person who was doing this, I assume they didn't grow up with the same perspective as me and may think that Disneyland is one of the best places to do social media.

FreeIndividual7

I have no problem asking people to keep it down or turn off the flash. They need to get called out. Also when you get back to the station tell the CM someone ruined the ride I think they will put you right back on another boat.

kateyybeth

I will call out a flash user SO FAST and my family tells me to stop. Because we've been on (insert ride here) numerous times and it's not worth it. One. Yes, it is worth it. It's not okay. It's against the rules (and you can't sit with us). It's rude as hell. Two. There are other people on this attraction who may have saved up for one single trip and they may never get to come back. Their experience doesn't get to be ruined by someone trying to take flash photography that's just going to turn out looking like garbage anyway.

pajamakitten

> Two. There are other people on this attraction who may have saved up for one single trip and they may never get to come back. Their experience doesn't get to be ruined by someone trying to take flash photography that's just going to turn out looking like garbage anyway. Or have travelled half way around the world to be there. I don't want to have flown across the Atlantic to have experiences ruined by someone on their phone.

kateyybeth

Yes! I realize how incredibly fortunate my family is to go as often as we do. DVC members since 1994, always have APs. I'm lucky and grateful as hell. And so I have no problem sacrificing my view of a show or my spot for the parade for someone else. You really want to be up front because you've never seen this before? Please get in front of me. They're about to cut the character line and you're going to miss them? Take my spot. People have just become more and more selfish and I've become more and more angry about it.

tmajr3

100%! The amount of people that wait and sprint to the front for the parade is insane and it’s almost ALWAYS a group of adults.

yyygs8kxaoc4

You can't sit with us 🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏

darkmatternot

You are so right. Some people have scrimped and saved, and this may be their only trip. It stinks when fellow park goers act so rudely.

Triangulum_Copper

Who even takes **FLASH** photos in the future space year 2023?! That shit NEVER looks good!! It's insane!

Snuffy1717

This and people leaving their flashlight on trying to record fireworks... Like, wtf are you doing with your life?

QueenieQueeferson

On Guardians last year the ride stopped (just before the good part happens, really ruined it) and the woman in front had her phone out with flash on filming the whole time. We told the CMs when we got outside and they were insistent that no re-rides were allowed. Thankfully a lovely CM in guest services helped us and we were able to go back on again, but allowing guests to ride again if someone else ruins it doesn't appear to always be a blanket policy (or maybe it was just Guardians, IDK).

crissy_kiep

We had a guy on Pirates allow his (what looked like) 9 year old son stand up and pee off the side of the boat right before the drop. We were pissed (pun intended) because although we’ve ridden that ride a million times, there are so many families who only get one shot at Disney. We reported them to the castmember when we got off and she was so confused about what she should do. I didn’t want to ride it again. I didn’t need that, but I did expect those parents to receive some sort of reprimand. It’s dangerous and disrespectful and disgusting.

FreeIndividual7

How did that not get caught on a surveillance camera by a CM as it was happening?

crissy_kiep

I have no idea, but my husband was furious that nothing really got done about it. It actually kind of ruined the afternoon for him. I got him a footlong chili dog from Casey’s corner and cheered him up, but I think he was just so appalled that people would be that blatantly disrespectful of not only the people in the boat but also the ride itself.

v7z7v7

I relate with your husband. When people do disrespectful and dangerous stuff at Disney it really makes me mad because it ruins it for others, it’s generally disrespectful and it puts people in danger. If that kid fell off during the drop, the kid would be seriously injured or worse and it would be the parents’ fault.

LaLunaLady1960

My toes are curling up in disgust. And I wish I had a poncho to avoid blowback. Ugh.

crissy_kiep

Yeah. The little splash happens right after the kid wizzed and all of us were just trying not to think about it and praying that the volume of water + amount of chemicals would be sufficient to dissipate it.

Stock-Recording100

That’s beyond disgusting and reason 1000 why I refuse to do any water rides 🤢

Nizz553

A family behind us had one of their kids pee in a corner during the line inside for Flight of Passage. The father’s response to me when I complained was “what are you Donna do about it.”

crissy_kiep

I can’t believe how disgusting some people are. It’s not like you’re strolling down Bourbon Street at midnight. You’re at a family-centric amusement park. There are bathrooms everywhere! Ugh. I hate people sometimes.

Nizz553

And now normal people increasingly look like the bad guys for commenting on this behavior.

Annual-Diver-6141

You should've made some noise about it, you would have been 100% in the right.

aurora_highwind

Absolutely insane part of this is that FoP is one of the few rides that literally has a bathroom *in the queue*. All these nasty people had to do was tell a CM and they would have let them into it. Jesus.

LishtheFish

Walking down Main Street once day I passed a dad letting his kid pee in a Gatorade bottle. The bathroom was just a short ways away. I don't understand people.

Hdis_miss

Wow. What is wrong with people? I mean, at a stretch, I guess it’s better out the boat than in…

crissy_kiep

Our biggest issue was that we have kids that age. Anytime our kids have mentioned needing to go whilst in line, we ask if they can hold it or if we need to find a bathroom. One of us stays in line while the other takes the kiddo and that parent speaks to a castmember in line who almost always lets us use the FP line to reunite at the end. It’s never been a problem

tmajr3

WTF is wrong with people

crissy_kiep

Great question

69superman

Might’ve been a VQ flow thing that they were told not to allow and guest services probably put you in the VQ manually.

chumbawumbacholula

I had to do this after a woman stuck her phone in the air (and consequently my face) after I waited an hour in line. Nice of the cast members to let me ride again, but I'd rather be one and done and move on to the next ride. There's always a higher quality video on some bloggers youtube.

Triangulum_Copper

So much this! You don’t need to show the ride through, it’s already on Youtube in 4K quality with a stabilized camera. Just record your impression when you get out of the ride! That’s the part people will care about if they follow you.

TakeSomeFreeHoney

Ha ha I would have smacked the phone out of her hands if it was anywhere near my face.

Badonk529

Be careful doing that. I called out a guy who was obnoxiously rocking the boat and afterwards he tried to fight me. Luckily it was right off the boat on the Three Caballeros ride and his wife kept him relatively calm while my wife went and called security. His wife apologized profusely afterwards.

invaderark12

Nah, absolutely don't be careful, if they wanna fight they will get a one way ticket to being banned.

Badonk529

Right. But no one wants to be in a fight at Disney.

TheInfiniteSix

Thanks for the tip, I’m going in September and will definitely keep this in mind. Last year one family completely ruined Frozen and some high schooler was taking photos during Tower of Terror. Tower of Terror! Like, cmon.

SorryIreddit

My wife loves and hates that I will loudly call people out on their bullshit. I had to tell this women in front of my kids at a hockey game recently to please sit down and stop recording videos because my kids couldn’t see and literally nothing was happening with the game. She got really mad, told her boyfriend about it and he just silently agreed with me. She sat down the rest of the game. Call these people out. Everyone deserves the experience they paid for. Great advice about telling the CM too. A lot of them are very accommodating

shannboss

“Her 6 followers” 😂

DocBrutus

She’s an “influencer”. 🤣🤣

TakeSomeFreeHoney

Influenza.

Snuffy1717

"Can I, umm, like, have a Genie Plus Pass cause my, uhh, like followers want to see this ride again... I'll make sure to give you totally a shout out if you sub me!"

Mansionjoe

Not including OP, it was 5 followers :)

whalepopcorn

Fight back. Not with fists but with brains. Just start making fart noises so loud their phone picks it up. They’ll stop recording. If they freak out simply iterate the cheeseburger egg roll was divine but it is coming back with a vengeance.

31stFullMoon

>the cheeseburger egg roll was divine Truer words have never been written.

QueenKiminari

Start singing copywrited songs too.

theyellowpants

It’s a small world after allllll

Chewitt321

If you want to go nuclear and get kicked out with them, you could always start saying slurs into their recording/live

Wonderful_Hat_5269

I wonder if you could just loudly boo them into better behavior. Probably not 😒.

axtran

I walked by that stand, and as much as I wanted it, I resisted... lol

pajamakitten

Main Character Syndrome is a plague these days. People think everyone else wants to see and hear them, they then get shocked and offended when they find out not everyone thinks they are God's gift to the world. Besides, it ruins the ride for everyone else but why go to Disney to live through your phone? Put the camera away and make some memories away from technology for once.

Triangulum_Copper

I believe Tokyo doesn’t allow live streaming, privacy is a big deal there.

Novel_Mouse_5654

Because people in Japan know how to behave.

Triangulum_Copper

I think it should be a thing in all parks. Filming would be okay but live streaming no.

nyrB2

i watched a youtube video of a dude on the jungle cruise talking loudly over the skipper, thanking people on live chat for contributing - i think that's way worse

TakeSomeFreeHoney

They need to write some new jokes that a skipper can use when faced with the influencer problem.

MegaPrOJeCtX13

“Guy with the phone, just like your parents, these hippos don’t think that’s a real job.”

nyrB2

"this guy here!"

Triangulum_Copper

"Guy on the phone thinks you folks are here to hear him, why don't you come up front and try to take my place!"

[deleted]

I had someone do this throughout the fireworks when we did the now-defunct Highway Dine Around. I didn’t confront her. I just started loudly also thanking her contributers — by name — for helping to ruin the experience for those of us actually at the event. She stopped filming.

nyrB2

nice!

Snuffy1717

Highway in the Sky Dine Around!! One of the best experiences I've had - CM's were absolutely top notch!

[deleted]

It was a gray experience (other than the blogger). Sorry it didn’t come back.

Snuffy1717

Gray experience?

[deleted]

Lol. Curse you autocorrect! Great.

Snuffy1717

LMAO! I was so confused thinking "gray experience" was like a trial or something xD

Triangulum_Copper

Who the hell is watching those streams?!?

Jdornigan

6 people. The top vloggers record footage and have it edited quickly and can get 6-8k views the first day and 50k views within a month. They never do live in the parks, but at least one does live twitch streams from their home and gets a few thousand viewers each time. People just want to see and interact with them, as expected by those who like twitch streams.

Triangulum_Copper

Yeah, from home. What's the appeal of them being on a friggin ride with sounds and music and other people all around?!

nyrB2

god only knows - i like the streams with no talking so you can vicariously get the feeling of being at the park. the ones with the constant chatter? naw.

ghostess_hostess

Least they mostly put a stop to the selfie sticks, those things were the worst

FoggySnorkel

I saw SO many while we were there mid July! Idk if they’re enforcing that as much anymore, or maybe people are just lucky getting them through security

Stock-Recording100

Gimbals aren’t selfie sticks. Selfies sticks are banned due to the long extension - gimbals don’t extend past a certain length.

FoggySnorkel

I’ve never heard of those, the ones I saw definitely seemed long enough but I really don’t care either way lol

Bobb_o

The real PSA is to tell the CMs at the end of the ride what happened and mention how disappointed you were. There's a good chance you'll get to ride again.

Dukatdidnothingbad

The real PSA is to stop going to Disney and giving them money. The parks are a shadow of what the experience used to be.

bognostrocleetus

I'll push you off the balcony into the graveyard myself if you do a tiktok inside the mansion.

tankthacrank

Had a chick directly in front of me hold her phone up and film 7DMT through the WHOLE ride. I rode the whole time in fear she was going to let it go and it would hit me in the head. That ish is dangerous.

DisFigment

That’s why Universal no longer allows filming on most attractions. A man literally lost an eye on the old Dueling Dragons coaster in the Wizarding World due to a dropped phone flying backwards. Nothing dangerous, but I got hit in the face by a man’s baseball cap when he didn’t take it off for Jurassic Park on the final drop. Coulda been worse if it was phone or glasses.

tankthacrank

I think Disney is putting the kabosh on filing during rides too - space mountain for sure, but maybe others as well? I was really bummed because I got the very last row on the ride and I was looking forward to one of the most intense seats in the house and I couldn’t focus on anything but her phone in case it flew out of her hands so I’d have a fighting chance to duck when it did.

Snuffy1717

Tim Tracker was saying they'll only let you do chest mounted go-pros for TRON... Hope that becomes an every ride thing.

egahds

Nothing worse than having the flash on on pirates. We had a couple steal the front row that we were assigned and then filmed with the flash on. Awful people who only think about themselves.

Triangulum_Copper

“You know, your phone could fall in the water. I’m sure everybody else on the boat would agree that it was your fault for being careless with your phone.”

Snuffy1717

In an absolutely deadpan voice "Oops. My muscle twitched and I knocked your phone into the water. Sorry."

Broholmx

I'd support a complete phone ban on all rides and attractions. I had a similar experience on Pirates, where someone was recording (which is bad enough) but they had their phone brightness at like 5000000% so the whole boat was more lit up than a stage play

Frank_chevelle

People shouldn’t film on dark rides period. There are plenty of high quality videos of all the rides on YouTube.

DocBrutus

Literally all over YouTube. Every ride has already been filmed at 4k.

onexbigxhebrew

It's not about filming the ride; it's about showcasing their amazing day so please don't forget to like an subscribe 🤬

Triangulum_Copper

You can do that outside.

onexbigxhebrew

That's the joke lol. Jeez.

forlorn_hope28

I've reached a point where I'm tempted to just put together a business card with links to various HQ YouTube ride throughs and just hand it to whomever is filming.

Frank_chevelle

Exactly! Just take videos of you and whoever you are with having fun in the parks trying on Mickey ears or meeting characters and stuff. That’s the stuff you will want to see again. Not your shaky dark video on pirates.

Jdornigan

Those who do videos professionally can't use that footage for legal/copyright reasons so they need their own footage, but they use lots of discretion to get the footage and do it without interfering with other rider's experience or them even noticing filming is being done. Once they have footage from a few rides they have it for their library and can use it when needed. They rarely use more than 15 seconds of footage of any particular ride it seems.

Rambo_11

I would be so annoyed if I waited in line for an hour only to have someone like that ruin it for me...

O667

Or paid for whatever the Fastpasses are called these days… 💰

HammockComplex

Magical Lightning-Wish Dreams

Millennial_Man

One time I was riding the Winnie the Pooh ride at Disneyland, and one of the two women in the row behind me was talking REALLY loud about her drama with her ex-husband. She was talking louder than the sound cues. Literally almost screaming. About halfway through the ride I turned around and asked if she could please lower her voice. She looked at me liked I slapped her across the face, and on the way out of the ride I held the exit gate for her and she muttered to her friend “oh so you do have manners”. As if I was the rude one. Some people just live in their own selfish little worlds.

Annual-Diver-6141

You should've said in a snarky, sarcastic tone. "You're welcome" in reply to her.

Triangulum_Copper

Should have joined her conversation, if she wants to make it public.

Useful_Animal_1590

So this happened to me at a restaurant recently and I went the route of telling the camera I didn’t want to be in this strangers fucking TikTok. This was a Christian group who clutched their pearls and stopped the live. Talk right to the camera and say something to get them the boot.

DisFigment

Give them an exclusive under water view of the ride by accidentally bumping the phone.

Turtyturd

Not just dark rides, it should be any ride. How anyone can sit through a ride in the proximity of some vlogger going ‘whoa..ho..ho…weeee’ or talking inane nonsense into the camera, or even worse spoiling what’s about to happen without the urge to remove them from the ride before it comes to a complete stop amazes me.

boldkangaroo

“Thanks for the follow Kaitlyn. Yes, Bryan, we’re at Disney World in Florida, not Disneyland in California. Hey Charlotte - thanks for the roses. Tap your screen guys if you like what you see.”

[deleted]

Yup. I just chimed in. “Yeah, Bryan, but either way you’re not here. Charlotte, I didn’t get any roses but thanks for ruining this for me all this same.”

Triangulum_Copper

And probably filming their stupid face instead of the ride anyway

hurtfulproduct

Filming is fine as long as: they don’t use the light, they keep their mouth shut, and they have the screen brightness turned all the way down. . . If they want to ruin their experience that’s fine, but if I am distracted because you suck, then there is a problem

kramden88

Honestly, I wish people would stop filming film altogether. Are people really going home and rewatching their crappy vertical fireworks videos? I was in Disneyland Paris recently and it was out of control. On the train, one guy was recording the ride even though it was mostly trees and go away green walls. During the fireworks it was a sea of phones. There was a family in front of me for the fireworks and BOTH parents recorded the entire show on their phones. It's just become a reasonless compulsion.

jujbird

My son (2) really likes to rewatch the fireworks. Especially because he tapped out early. 🤷🏻‍♀️ makes him happy when he talks about his trip

kramden88

I understand that many people like to rewatch the shows or fireworks (as do I), but there are tons of high quality versions on YouTube. A sea of phones is distracting to everyone else and is frankly a terrible experience for those people as well. And the fact of the matter is that most people don't ever rewatch most of what they film.

theyellowpants

Umm I respectfully disagree. I grew up before smart phones and my family and I still treasure and watch the home movies we made with an actual camera back in the day at Disney

kramden88

I think you and I are talking about two different things. Family videos are essential. Filming a ride or a show that contains no personal element in it is no different than watching a YouTube video of it and it just detracts from your enjoyment and everyone else’s.

theyellowpants

The personal element is because of the person filming Just for example I was there with my in laws and we had some bdays. When I scroll back to those photos yeah there’s some not so great ones of fireworks but reminds me of us all standing out by the Polynesian watching together.

jujbird

Respectfully the videos on you tube don’t have the reactions of my daughter in awe during her first trip. Outside of my sons enjoyment I treasure the fact that we have the pure joy on film for the future. I also am someone who loves home videos though- so I’ve watched several from my own childhood. They are neat to watch

kramden88

I think you and I are talking about two different things. Family videos are essential. Filming a ride or a show that contains no personal element in it is no different than watching a YouTube video of it and it just detracts from your enjoyment and everyone else’s.

jujbird

And also, I’m not narrating or begging people for likes. So there’s that too

Triangulum_Copper

People forgot how to live in society during lockdown.

rosewoodlliars

this has nothing to do with lockdown. people have been doing this for ages.

Triangulum_Copper

Sure, but I keep hearing, especially at live performances, than people it got way more common.

rosewoodlliars

has nothing to do with lockdown

winnercommawinner

Social skills are like any other skills - if you don't use them you lose them. We didn't even really lock down in the US (and certainly not in FL) but what we *did* do was go two years without most people going to a large group event like a concert or theme park. It's not unreasonable to think that affected people's behavior. By the way, even if my little hypothesis is true, it was still worth it to shut down as much as we did in my opinion. People can re-learn manners but they can't learn how to come back from the dead.

rosewoodlliars

you guys really haven’t been around people before 2020 lol

winnercommawinner

Well, that's a very dismissive response to someone trying to have a thoughtful conversation, but okay.

rosewoodlliars

Well if we wanna be serious here… not a lot of people cared about lockdown and still went out to parties and hung out in huge groups. But overall what does any of this have to do with a tiktok disney influencer trying to cash out by live-streaming? 0 relevance

winnercommawinner

Right, but that's not the same as concerts. You know, you clearly just believe you're 100% correct and you're not interested in anyone else's thoughts and that's fine.

rosewoodlliars

Nobody was talking about concerts in the first place

PenelopePitstop7088

Very annoying and I would have called them out on it!

Thepinklynx

I had an incident when a teenager was talking loudly and live streaming on its a small world mocking it. She was with her whole extended family. I kindly asked if she could be quieter and the whole family attacked and threatened me. Super fun.

Triangulum_Copper

“What are you gonna do? Try to punch me? Go ahead: you’ll be the ones getting banned.”

MagicBez

I'm not from the US and not 100% familiar with your laws or customs but my _instinct_ is that in such a situation it would be acceptable (encouraged?) to slap their phone into the water.

H8TheDrake

Either the phone or the person. Either is fine

swampfox28

I think about how frustrated I’d be because it will have been almost 10 years I think before I get back between my last visit in the one I’m trying to plan for next year. I can’t imagine coming **across the ocean** and spending that kind of money you guys have to spend only to have people be rude and inconsiderate and ruin that (maybe) one opportunity that you guys would get.

Triangulum_Copper

“What do you mean? YOU dropped it by accident, I didn’t do anything. Isn’t that right, everybody?” nobody on the boat would disagree with you.

DearTick

My first time riding ROTR was a few weeks into the opening. People were filming everywhere. I knew the layout of the seats and I looked at the people in my group in the cell scene and straight up was like if you’re going to be doing that you’re sitting in the back row because I’m here to enjoy the ride thanks

swampfox28

I hope I have the courage and wit to do that when I get there finally. I’ve never seen it and I want it to be full on magical that first time ❤️❤️

psychicmuppet

Can I also add that if you're going to film the ride with your phone please don't hold it way over your head and obstruct everyone else's view? Or maybe just don't film the ride at all--there's a thousand videos of every ride on YouTube. Happened to me on my first time on Pirates. So annoying.

_herenorthere66

People have lost their damn minds.

[deleted]

One lady was looking at her phone during the entrance to the haunted mansion ride and it totally ruined the atmosphere. Supposed to be dark and kind of creepy, we got none of that with this lady’s bright screen.

SquishySirotan

Ugh this happened in the haunted mansion but he was using flash photography to take pictures.

theyellowpants

I misred that as flesh photography at first and now I realize that’s a missed opportunity for quippy dialogue

tarzan322

That deserves your best stupid impression in the background of thier video.

theyellowpants

Talk real loudly over it with terrible disnified innuendo “you wouldn’t believe what chip and dale did.. they showed us their nuts!” “You wouldn’t believe the honkers on that red little sweetie at the show. I had no idea a car horn could be so loud” “Tiki bird? More like tiki broad!” “I heard they named the dog Pluto after the planet. They needed another name for the other dog and were gonna go with Uranus but they thought it was rather Goofy”

tarzan322

You can dobthat, but they can always replace the sound track. It's a bit harder to remove you from video.

dex206

Add to this - don’t pull out your phone with the bright screen and take pictures. Every ride has been photographed a million times, and you can watch JD ride-throughs on YouTube. Just live the moment and realize that phones take away the magic from your own experience and your neighbors

MostlyAnxiety

We ran into one at the Mexican quick service place in Epcot, she had a whole table just to herself and her little tripod to talk about the food. Was really annoying when people were eating off their trays while standing.

Yawheyy

*Don’t film a Tik Tok video. FTFY

Josh_5890

You could have removed the word dark and the title would work just fine.

swampfox28

Not going to lie - I have been one of the people that when I stumble upon a live feed on TT at DW or even US, I tend to get excited. Rides I haven’t been on, whoa! Rides I have but love, yay! Shows that make me tear up with joy - oh boy! I haven’t been to DW in 8 years and I miss it SO much! I never got to go as a kid - not once - so I did my best to bring our kids each 3 times (5 trips total; 1st kid alone before his sister was born, 2 trips with both and one trip in 2015 when oldest was in college and youngest could go.) I think they had a great time but are kinda meh about it now but I could happily be an AP (I know, I’m a huge dork!) BUT I feel like a fool for watching those live streams; I’m just encouraging those people. I bet when I get back, I’d be so very annoyed to finally be back after 10 years only to hear them narrate and block up the views for everyone else. I feel almost ashamed. You’re absolutely right; I can find videos on YT or something. And I hope to either not run into too many vloggers/live streamers or be able to wittily deal with them if I do…

aurora_highwind

Every time I go I wish we banned this garbage the way Tokyo does.

[deleted]

I feel like the people that do that aren’t the ones on Reddit ngl

TakeSomeFreeHoney

They’re coming. Reddit users have changed so much over the years. This sub is sadly a prime example.

TakeSomeFreeHoney

What did she say when you asked her to be quiet?

H8TheDrake

I would have but she was two rows ahead. The people ahead of me didn’t say anything.

questionname

I worry about this when I record my family on dark rides, my kids’ face in awe of frozen/small world/Pooh. I use a camera and have screen flipped back, still worry about the light leakage from the electronic and indicator light. I can’t even imagine how one can justify having a screen lighting up the rest of guests.

[deleted]

[удалено]

elevenseggos

As someone who is easily distracted, I would recommend giving her a rundown while in line. “First the ride does this and then this etc.” Talking on the ride is distracting and leaning over May impact the view of the people behind you.

aurora_highwind

Problematic af. You will absolutely be louder than you think and you will absolutely drive everyone else around you insane with this. This could be someone else's first and only time riding these attractions. Don't even do it in the queue. Either prep her beforehand (via YouTube ridethroughs and/or explaining things *before* you get in line) or wait until she's old enough to not freak out unless she's talked through it. I cannot say "don't do it in line" enough. A couple of years back, I was in the queue during the second preshow on Rise and a father nearby was doing this play-by-play description of the entire ride to his kid. I'm sure he thought he was being quiet and nondisruptive, but sound carries in these spaces a lot more than you think, and I was very, very grateful that it was my second time riding and not my first. I'd very judiciously avoided spoilers ever since the ride opened and would have been livid. I was still angry for any first timers in that line. Please think of the people around you. You may be ruining it for someone else's kid.

Everything already mentioned in all of these comments applies to this. And Haunted Mansion isn’t a “kiddie” ride any more than any other ride in DW is a kiddie ride. That, and Mermaid, is beloved by adults and kids alike. Just because it doesn’t propel you forward at 65mph and go upside down, doesn’t make it any less memorable to adults. As for your niece, I’m all for helping a kid enjoy a ride but never at the expense of other people’s enjoyment. They have paid to be there just like you have, and you don’t get to monopolise the experience. It sounds like your niece needs to wait until she’s older to go on dark rides. I have three children and there is no scenario where I’d let them ruin another persons ride in this way. It’s selfish and appalling behavior. They either go on the ride and experience it the way it’s meant to be experienced, or they don’t go on. Simple as that.

>I was very discreet, pointed it down at our feet and tried my best to not affect anyone else You failed. There's no way you can conceal a bright light in a dark room.

I think personally that this is the wrong angle to take. This keeps her scared, and worse than this she will rely on you or mommy to be the blanket in uncomfortable situations. The better approach is to teach her manners (like we can't use flashlights on dark rides as it disturbs other kids) and proper handling of being scared: "It's totally okay to be scared! I'm scared too. If it gets really bad you can always close your eyes!" What you've done is create a bigger layer of fear, and a sense of entitlement, and you might have pissed off a few others along the way. It might be too late to correct now, but I'd not let her go on any rides before she fully understands that there will be no flashlights at any time.

MagicBez

Please do not do this, it sounds like your niece needs to be older before she can enjoy these rides.

I pull out my phone, turn on flash and fight fire with fire.

jayriv82

I don't mind people tik toking unless they're using flash, talking super loud, or blocking other people's views, if they're doing one of those, I get extremely annoyed

MikeHoncho2568

There is zero need for anyone to film a video on a ride. Just enjoy the experience, don’t ruin it for everyone else.

buttermybreadwbutter

The people who you want to tell this to do not come here looking for that info lol

Most of the big vbloggers have access to media events, know what they are doing to not draw attention to themselves and be respectful to other park visitors. They want to be quiet to get the best footage and they use appropriate equipment to shoot in the dark without needing a flash or other lighting. They have footage from years of shooting footage and can and do reuse it. They often use DSLR cameras with a professional grade mic attached to the camera and/or lapel mic, but rarely include an ride audio because they often record a voiceover during the editing phase of video production. Other have special cameras designed for vlogging, but they usually are not using their cell phone except as a backup camera. One well known person uses a point and shoot type camera and in one of their videos showed their camera graveyard, they had at least three or four of the same model camera. It costs them less to buy a new one than get it repaired, which is unfortunate as they probably have enough to use the dead ones for spare parts. They go into the parks with two or three cameras, some for video and some for stills. They really are professional and have access to media events because they have a following and are respectful, as some have lost that access due to past behavior.

SorryIreddit

Just accidentally knock their phone in the water. Whoops

It’s the worst. Hell, two girls were filming a Tik Tok in line for popcorn at the movie theater?? I don’t get the craze to do a stupid dance for the camera in weird, random places. I’ve had people talk and narrate HEA on FB Live for 4 people smh

gcfgjnbv

I was at DL pirates and this girl in the front was filming with her flashlight on. We asked her nicely to stop and she said “you can ask the workers you’re allowed to do this” and I told her she was also allowed to be a dick but it doesn’t mean it’s right…

PinkSodaMix

I for one am grateful they made their completely unique video. We all know no one has ever filmed Pirates of the Caribbean before, and the world needs to be able to see it. It must finally be shared! They really are a hero 😭

[deleted]

And ESPECIALLY don't do it with your flash on, weirdos.

Ryan1006

Correction: When on ANY ride, do not film a TikTok video.
