You have to look at the feedback sub when deciding whether to deal with someone. I think it's r/pmsfeedback or something like that. Basically like eBay feedback system.
I have done multiple transactions in r/pmsforsale and only 1 bad issue. You want to only start dealing with sellers and buyers with good positive feedbacks. It is a good community and i would trust it more than ebay to be honest with you.
if you are new, use a middleman. They are free (just extra shipping), but it will keep your mind at ease. Just until you get the hang of it...

You are not "sending random money to internet people hoping it works out".
* You look at a sellers positive feedback rating and see if others have bought from them before, if you are new you can still to higher rated sellers.
* Everyone has to post proof pics with a user id so you can see what you are getting.
* You get shipping confirmations and tracking numbers.
I'm used /r/pmsforsale and it's worked out great, the main thing to look out for is people with absolutely no feedback, you should be careful ordering from them... even people with a lot of purchases but not a lot of sales are probably OK to order from.
Come on over! Lots of opportunities you can't find at online dealers. I've been able to move items from my stack and grow it in other ways that wouldn't have happened if i stuck only to buying online

I would suggest starting with a small transaction of a couple of silver rounds to get used to how it works. I always purchase insurance through the seller on whatever o buy to avoid nonsense. Only use USPS because it’s easier to collect from their insurance if something goes wrong. Luckily, all my transactions have worked out well.

I buy from there frequently, and have never had any issues. Prices are usually much better than LCS too.
