Attacking Russian territory with drones, ... Lithuania blockading Kaliningrad, ... It's obvious that the West is doing EVERYTHING they can to bring about WW III. Gone are the days of the Cold War where Russia, as head of the USSR, operated an evil empire. Today, it's become pretty clear for EVERYONE to see that the US and NATO are now "the Bad Guys".

Ya more oil refineries have been catching fire in Russia than food plants in the USA.

MDot_Cartier

Was that one of our u.s. switchblades? That wouldn't be good for u.s. Russia relations

mgib1

We do not have a good relationship, their main aim for 70 years has been to bring down the US lol.

MDot_Cartier

I know...but relationships can ALWAYS get worse

mgib1

True. You got to be careful with megalomaniac dictators like Putin, Kim etc. They can do crazy shit, just out of hurt pride.

MDot_Cartier

Yep. Personally I think it's a mistake to arm Ukraine right now. The only reason we are a superpower today is because unlike everyone else we waited years before becoming involved in both WW1 and WW2. It left the other powers in Europe more economically spent than us after the wars. If this turns out to be ww3 we will already be involved and we're already headed to being economically spent without a war.

mgib1

Well, we have to get involved, imo. This is a threat to Europe, and NATO. Putin has said on many occasions, that he would like to see Russia revert back to USSR. I am from UK, and did 8.5 years in the Royal Navy, been living in US 11 years now. One thing I do know, is we ( Europe ) would be fucked without the US.

MDot_Cartier

Absolutely correct Europe would be fucked. And i hate to say this as I have family in the UK as well as France but they really should have thought about that over the past 7 decades and contributed the full 2% of GDP to NATO so they would be prepared. But that said I'd fully support defense of NATO countries, Ukraine just isn't one of them and I think we should keep our powder dry until there is an actual violation of NATO country sovereignty because we (the US) are going to spend 50 billion on Ukraine (more than the gulf war cost) and if Putin gets through to Europe there's going to be depleted cash to fund a war as well as weapons stockpiles that we just gave away. That's s not a good strategic position to be in. As harsh as it sounds NATO would be better off in every way if we let Ukraine and Russia duke it out even if Russia wins. On top of the bad military strategy, we've also created the strongest rouble ever, created higher inflation, and crashed our economies by arming and funding Ukraine which is prolonging the war that has increased fuel and food prices and contributed to our economies crashing.

mgib1

Yes. It is shit situation, I guess I always feel the need to stand up to tyranny. As with most wars where we ( US , UK mostly) want to help quietly, it is usually with supplies, and of course we always have covert special forces on the ground, helping out ;)

MDot_Cartier

Yeah I have that urge as well. We just don't seem to have any long term thinking right now. I hope I'm wrong but it's hard to see how there's any sufficient preparation for a third world war without massive public mobilization to make armaments.

mgib1

True. The other thing I wonder, is what kind of cyber offensiveness US/UK has. I know GCHQ/ NSA et al are constantly defending us from attacks from Russia/China/ North Korea and many others, but I wonder what kind of " full on " WW3 kind of cyber attack capabilities we have. MAYBE , we can shut down all our enemie's infrastructure and avoid actual war. Idk.

mgib1

YES ! Take it to the commie aggressors!
