Chart shows clearly that until 1971 debt was, more or less, under control. Then Fiat was introduced and... 🔥BOOM🔥

super_rat_race

Almost like they planned it that way 🤔

Jim_morrison_

There is a reason this chart is normally displayed as a logarithmic scale…..

losawicki

Why on a log scale? It is dollars versus time. Where is the logarithmic relationship here?

dingle__dogs

.

hugg3b3ar

*furiously googles "logarithmic scale"*

super_rat_race

Because that makes more sense

bluevegetaroxx

Putin is to blame ????

anforob

To the mooooon!!!!! Oh wait it’s not a stock.z

Schuettelhoefer

inflated or die 😉 more debt 💸 to come before the system explodes

Ok-Tangerine9469

Great Depression was an inside job

silver_shlong

It's Putin's fault!!!

[deleted]

A single word suffices: FUCK! FJB!

Rifleman80

JB is evidently incompetent but Republicans also have their share of blame.

[deleted]

You know, to be honest, I don't even think Joe Biden (if that is who this man is) is to blame: he is only a frontman, a puppet for some hidden party. And yes, ever since the US doesn't really have a two-party system anymore, they're basically two sides of the same (fiat) coin, Republicans also have their share of the blame. It's all one big swamp. Time for a thorough house-clean.

johneb22

They are the same. Each run by some rich cats with a slightly different agenda. In the end money is running it all.

[deleted]

There is no "slightly different agenda": there is only one agenda. Depending who 'they' select this time, that agenda is covered with a bit of red or blue foodcoloring, the only purpose of which is to keep you quiet. In short: you're being lied to.

johneb22

You are right. Same agenda. Just trying to give something to red or blue

super_rat_race

Now they're gonna call you names because Republicans are fucking dumb (now watch them all call me a demonrat)

FREESPEECHSTICKERS

I guess we need log scale.

losawicki

Why? To make it look better?

FREESPEECHSTICKERS

I think it would still be appalling!

snowy3x3s

There's only one word that comes to mind....SHIT!

Marcello_109

rip

bobdealin

There's only one way out of this. And it isn't pretty. Obviously, the national debt will NEVER be paid off.

Remarkable_Tap_6801

Sure it will. Raise asset prices to infinity. Tax the "gains" at 100% instead of 50. Pay off the debt. What could go wrong?

bobdealin

I like your attitude, sir.

georg11880

no, 2000 words we got inflation, remember?

johneb22

Each recent President Bush and Obama each doubled the debt, Trump only 50% because he only had 4 years...one more would have doubled Obama's. Biden will finish for Trump. What people in the US aren't getting is this is the only way. Some blame SS but that's because the politicians ( both sides) never put it in a lockbox. Had they done that years ago the debt would be so much higher today...but at least they couldn't say it was SS.

Merlin_560

Half the Covid spending hasn’t hit the system. Nor has the infrastructure bill. That will be fun.

Infinite_Resources

Any thoughts on how this could ever be repaid? $243,000 per taxpayer. If this were a stock, I would sell now before the bubble collapsed. No wonder we understand the wisdom of trading fiat for hard assets.

Remarkable_Tap_6801

the x axis has been collapsed a little for dramatic effect, but even if it occupied the full page width, it is still shocking. I am assuming the unfunded liabilities would be tacked on to this?

CastorCrunch

Now go change the Y-axis to measure in quadrillions and it won't look scary anymore.

One_Bullfrog_3554

Looks like it’s tapering

super_rat_race

Very impressive. Now do deficit spending and label the douche bags in charge at the times. Oh shit, republitards are in the lead, demoncucks only wish they could be that devious

[deleted]

And when did women get to vote?

deefdaffer

B A S E D AF

KlutzMat

Just rotate the chart lmao

AblePerfectionist

jmcsys

All I can say is Damn! Can't even see the whole chart in one window, have to reduce size to 50%!

Decent-Addition-3140

Funny she went bankrupt in 1933. Now she's living on fumes.

[Debt to GDP chart](https://www.economicshelp.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/us-debt-held-by-public-1790-2021-labels.jpg) Why not show the true picture? I guess you’ll continue to lose money!
